I am waiting for the trade, can you tell me how many miles you have on the odo when you pick up your van?

    thanks

I ran into the same thing this past weekend in the DFW area (at least at the one dealer I visited). I'm potentially looking for a EX-L NAV/RES and was told that these are also pretty "rare" (in addition to the touring models with NAV/RES).

They basically said they couldn't do much better than MSRP minus "a few hundred dollars" for an EX-L NAV/RES. If I'm willing to drop the NAV requirement, the price would be closer to invoice + $1000 or so (we weren't actually haggling -- I was just trying to get a feel for how far apart we'd be).

At this point I'm probably going to start shopping around (e.g. via the internet), possibly looking at neighboring states / outside of the DFW area. For some reason I really *want* to have the NAV (I certainly don't *need* it though ) but I'm not sure how easy it will be to get a hold of one...

I have been trying to get pricing for Tourings and EX-L with DVD and Navi for the Bay Area (and really any part of Northern CA) and the lowest I got for Tourings is $38,810 which is above MSRP. Any suggestions from those in this area and where you were able to find a good deal.

Thanks in advance - feel free to e-mail directly.

    Hi,
I am also planning to buy an LX and not sure what the right price is since most of the post here are for EX. It appears you got a good deal. What are the add ons you have on your vehicle.

I would appreciate if you can send me the buyers order since the dealers here in AZ need that in order to match the price.

I can provide my email if you are planning to send.

    Thanks

I did not add anything onto my LX (although a cargo net was thrown in). The vehicle price was $23,496 and the TTL + Doc fees brought the total "out-the-door" price to $25,200. Unfortunately, I don't have the buyers order to send to you. Good luck with your purchase!

they had 43 miles on the van. And they had it in great shape inspite of the snow. Good luck.

I bought an EX-L + DVD (Ocean Mist) at Yuba City Honda for 29986 + TTL. By my calculation that's invoice + $999.00. I contacted the dealer via the internet and received the quote. I solicited quotes from dealers in the Bay Area and LA, Yuba City was by far the lowest. I had to wait a couple of weeks before they were able to locate the color I was interested in. Yuba City is a 2-3 hour drive from San Jose. I didn't shop the Yuba City quote around to Bay Area dealers. I'm sure that exercise would have been a waste of time. Although Anderson Honda of Palo Alto did call me while I was driving to Yuba City. Anderson never gave me a written quote but they kept calling me and offering to take a $500 deposit for the opportunity to pay MSRP. It was sweet satisfaction to tell them about Yuba City. When I asked if Anderson would match the Yuba City offer, he said he'd get back to me in a day or two. I kept on driving and Anderson never called back.

Is $30,300 the price out of the door including taxes and doc fee?
Did you get the extended warranty?

    Thanks
  • dbroylesdbroyles Member Posts: 7
I am guessing that the $27034 is the invoice without destination charges ($515). The $27549 includes the destination charge.

In general, bay area's Honda dealers are still trying to take maximum profit at the moment despite the fact that some other areas are selling at invoice. I paid a vist to Stevens Creek Honda last Sat and offered them $28,500 for an EX-L. Even though there were over 20 Odyssey on the lot, the answer I got was: "We don't go from invoice, but take down from MSRP". I left immediately.
Anderson Honda has been calling me ever since I took a test drive last Sept when the car just came out. I have been getting words from sales person from "$1000 below MSRP" to "$1500 over invoice" for an EX - cloth. I will wait for a while and hope to see price drop down.

I'm making progress on pricing - I'm getting quotes for any of the 4 - EXL, EXL with DVD, EXL with DVD and NAV, and Touring with DVD and NAV (strange but Touring wo DVD and NAV is harder to find). However, it's coming close to me having to choose, and I must admit I might be tempted to go with Touring w DVD and NAV because it's been a challenge to get a great price, and I don't want that to be the ONLY reason why I go for that trim. Any thoughts on what's the best out of the 4 for the money, resale value, etc? Is Touring really worth it? Why is everyone going crazy for that trim and making these dealers say stuff like "that's the only trim we won't heavily discount"? Is it the better sound system, the power tailgate, the tires, the console????? Thanks!

    I was looking at Ex-L, Ex-L DVD and Ex-l DVD/Res
here are my arguments for each:

EX-L: Low cost, lower demand than DVD/Res = lower price, can easily add a $800 sony DVD. This one can be got at Invoice

    EX-L: high demand vehicle, Invoice+1000
pros: factory DVD (add ext. warranty for a 7 year warranty on this item)
cons: cannot play DVD-R that I tried.

EX-L DVD/NAV: price is high for NAV but includes bonus XM capability, better speakers and rear view camera

I am leaning towards either EX-L and add Sony or
EX-L DVD/NAV and go all out.

Question - when you add a DVD later - does it come with remote control?

Thanks for your reply. I would appreciate if you can forward the email quote you recieved from the dealer for the price you had mentioned.

I went through the exact same thing - it was torture for months!

Although I had a harder time justifying the price jump to a Touring from an EX-L than the cost of the R&N package, I eventually did buy a Touring R&N and have no regrets. Other than some of the interior trim, it does feel like a higher line, more integrated vehicle and, at least to me, drives better.

Bear in mind, though, that its residual is less (as is generally true with any top of the line model) so you will truly pay for the extras.

I have been lurking for many months, but now have something to post. Having owned an EX for 6 years, I was ready to buy. But living in Southwest FL, all the news was all the dealers were holding close to MSRP. Thanks to leads from tampa lutz and odyssey2005, I contacted Walker Jones Honda in Waycross GA.

The Internet Manager was VERY professional, courteous and dependable. My problem was how to do a deal with a dealer over 400 miles away, and yet trade in my 1999 EX. I was not willing to drive there and haggle over trade in value, a sore point in my 1999 EX deal elsewhere.

What happened was great! I wanted to get KBB trade in, Good condition, for my EX. After taking my VIN, they agreed on that KBB value! I was willing to go over $1000 over invoice for the hard-to-get Touring N&R, partly based on 2005Odyssey’s $1000 over invoice for a EX-L. We then agreed on a price, including their $249 document fee, of about $1150 over invoice, and DELIVERED free to my door over 400 miles away!

We agreed on the deal on Jan. 31, but I had to wait for three weeks for our color choice from the factory. In the meantime, Honda announced their price increase and it did show up on our sticker. To their credit, the dealer never brought up the price increase.

We received delivery last Friday, went over the vehicle operation with the driver, took a test drive, inspected for a number of quality items including a few options ordered, and signed the papers at our dining room table. The driver swapped plates and left in our trade in. The driver was knowledgeable and very pleasant.

I never thought you could trade in a vehicle for a fixed, fair value without the dealer inspecting it, but I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

My price from the local Honda dealer would have been about $4000 higher, and I didn’t even have to even leave home to do this deal. If you live in FL, you are making a big mistake by not talking with these folks.

"For some reason I really *want* to have the NAV"

    eta, hmb1, aabb,

Definitely get the NAV, or as aabb says, "go all out." I love the NAV in my EX-L RES/NAV. XM is great (although it's totally personal taste; my wife, who wanted it, is not thrilled with it); touchscreen control of radio, XM, audio, RES, and NAV all on front screen is great, as is voice activation for nav, audio, DVD, and climate control; all very well integrated. Oh yeah, the NAV system is very cool, with restaurants, Zagat ratings, etc. etc. If you are even considering a NAV, you will have no regrets going for Honda's integrated system.

Just review prior posts here, and I am confident you will find a Nav model for a roughly similar price in relation to invoice as the other trim lines, except for touring, where you'll have to work a little harder. (see ccompson's info)

I had a terrific experience with Classic in Streetsboro, OH, and I know they have had buyers have vehicles shipped as far away as Calif. See my post 8389.

"EX-L DVD/NAV: price is high for NAV but includes bonus XM capability, better speakers and rear view camera"

What do you mean by "better speakers"? According to Honda literature, that model (I have one) as same speaker system as all other EX models.
  • scottybscottyb Member Posts: 83
"Touring wo DVD and NAV is harder to find"

FYI when I shopped end of Dec, that trim was available and heavily discounted, often much more than EX-L w/DVD (with or w/o NAV); I got the sense from dealers that it was a poor stepchild that wasn't selling well and they wanted to get rid of it.

My personal view on touring is expressed in the next post.
  • scottybscottyb Member Posts: 83
"they also target it [touring] at the empty nest crowd"

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Honda marketing department for the brilliant idea of charging an extra $4,200 MSRP for the privilege of having one less seat. (I.e., touring has no plus one seat.) I can't imagine the production cost would have increased very much at all had Honda outfitted the touring with the lone seat belt, coming out of the roof, std. on the EX, whose absence prevents the touring from being an 8-passenger. The vehicle already accommodates the plusone seat on the floor; Honda would not have gone out of business had they offered the plusone as an option. One dealer even offered to swap one for the touring console, but...no seat belt for the 8th passenger. For me, the lack of that seat tilted the balance to the EX-L RES/NAV.

And if Honda really wanted to cater to empty nesters, why did they not offer the Nav w/o the DVD, as an empty-nest poster previously noted? (Empty nesters are less likely to have DVD-watching passengers, according to the poster.)

Some people somewhere are getting paid a lot of money to make these consumer friendly decisions.

Just completed purchase after 2 months of shopping the Southeast for an EXL / RES.

    $30,000 including all fees except - tx/tag/ttt.

Atlanta market is very tough, I was holding out for invoice but no luck and ran out of patience.

Used Curry Honda's Internet Sales. Feel free to email me with more details and list of dealer's in the Southeast and their quotes.

    Slyk,
What was the best price you found in DFW? I've received local pricing that is $1500 away from the one in Tyler, but it has addons that I can't get rid of (wheel locks, cargo tray, mud guards, pinstripe, and vin etch - which are not bad...but I wouldn't have chosen them).
Anyone know the invoice price of those items?
Thanks to everyone on this forum - I wouldn't have even gotten this type of pricing if it weren't for this forum. I think the main items on the Touring that make a different to me are the power tailgate and moveable pedals (sounds lame, but comfort makes a difference for me).
  • hmb1hmb1 Member Posts: 8
According to the dealer, Silver (I guess because it doesn't get dirty as easily). I think the popularity of a color depends on where you live. Black would be more popular in Texas if it wasn't so hot.
  • dfw_odydfw_ody Member Posts: 3
Everything was done over the phone - I'm sorry that I don't have a quote to email you.

FYI for any DFW Ody EX buyers out there - David McDavid of Frisco offered us $25998 + TTL and doc fees for an in-stock EX (no add-ons). We were not negotiating at the time since we wanted an LX in a color they couldn't get, but I just wanted to put that out there to help anyone who might be buying an EX. (This was before the price increase but you should be able to get that price or better on any EX that was on the lot before the increase.)

We just picked up our new EX-L 05 Ody & LOVE IT - GREAT deal and all around outstanding buying experience from INTERNET MGR at Kendall Honda of Eugene, Oregon - I highly recommend him - never met him til the day we picked up our van (we happily drove a few hrs to pick it up) - all done thru internet,a phone call and fax of quote in writing - super professional, nice guy & never a game, BS or 'gotcha'.

Question: I going to place an order w/H&A Accessories (above banner) for the cross bar (goes on top rack) and the all season mats and a cargo mat (don't know if the cargo mat is all season?). Are there any other accessories I should consider that are helpful/most popular? Also should I Scotch Guard the interior carpet myself (we did not get any interior/exterior protective coating). We got a silver pearl exterior/gray interior.

What about license plate frames? The dealer ones that came w/it seem plastic and flimsy & of course are an ad for the dealer, tho we were very happy w/the dealer . . . any suggestions? (Chrome or stainless or other we should look at getting??)
Thanks - this forum has been tremendously helpful along the Ody buying path.

We are planning on purchasing an EX-L RES and have noticed a lot of people on this board add on additional accessories such as all weather mats and cargo tray. Does anyone know if the EX-L comes standard with any kind of floor mats? I realize the benefits of "all weather" ones and plan on trying to negotiate them as part of the deal, but wanted to see if it the EX at least comes with carpeted mats in case I don't end up getting the all weather ones.
    Thanks.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, the EX has carpeted mats (as do, I believe, all trim levels). And I must say I'm disappointed with the quality of the carpets mats that came with my Touring model - definitely inferior to those in my wife's '05 Pilot. It's like they took a piece of cardboard and just covered it.

The cargo tray is a good idea. It fits in the well behind the third seat. Didn't have such a mat in our '99 Odyssey and the carpet got stained and dirty over time.

The cargo mat is a thick, rubber mat and is great. I also have the cargo tray which I highly recommend.

The other accessories we added my husband picked - leather steering wheel wrap and bra (since he gave up a sports car for the minivan, it was the last vestige of sportiness).

    I bought all from H&A.

I bought my Odyssey at Bernardi in Natick, MA. I got all my pricing online, so there was no haggle when I got to the dealership. Sales guy was great. Then it came time to go to the finance guy. He was awful. He refused to accept my auto loan check from my credit union, saying it was not guaranteed funds (which of COURSE it is!). He said that the dealership had been "burnt" before - so basically it was his choice whether or not to take the check, which is ridiculous. The credit union got involved and confirmed that it was indeed a valid, guaranteed funds check. He still wouldn't do it. Now, I had already sold my car privately so I was in real need of a new one. But if I wasn't in that position, believe me, I would have walked out. Bottom line - Bernardi's sales guys were super nice and very professional. Their finance dept. (this guy imparticular) makes the car-buying experience exhausting and miserable. He wasn't even kind about it, that was the real problem. He was arrogant and obnoxious. Beware!

Did you say you are purchasing the Touring R&N at Tyler tomorrow? Can you please post your experience with the dealership? I'm very close to getting the same vehicle ($500 over the new invoice, not the old invoice and $1000 - $1400 in accessories probably overpaying on that as well), but Tyler is over a 2 hour drive and too risky if I go there and find out that they are duping me. Do you have some sort of guarantee on the car/price?
    Thanks

Last night I got the call that my Silver/Gray Touring R/N is in transit to the dealership, and I even have a VIN#. I hope to pick it up this weekend, and will post that evening about the details, and whether they held to the $35,250 (including doc fees) + tax.

I look forward to being able to share the dealer info this weekend, and might even be persuaded to email/fax a copy of my signed sales offer for those needing a little negotiating leverage in the southeast area. Check my profile for my email address.

I have starting to receive quotes from Bay Area (Peninsula) dealers in the form of "This is $500 under MSRP price including destination charge, but exludes tax, documenation fee, dmv fees."

Does anybody know what exactly the doc and license fees are? Also, is the tax calculated on price + destination, or just the price?

I plan to respond to the quotes by itemizing the costs, which clearly the dealers are not willing to do.

    Thanks!

FYI, I contacted a few DFW dealers through the Edmunds online service yesterday looking for a silver pearl metallic EX-L w. NAV/RES. I mentioned that I was aiming for about invoice plus $1000 and to my surprise pretty much every one of the 3 dealers who got back to me seemed to be fine with that price.

After some going back and forth I put down a deposit with Bankston Honda today for basically invoice plus $867. Without options, my walkout price would have been 34542.99. I ended up adding the 3rd row sunscreen, fog lights, dealer tint giving me a final walkout price of $35249.99. This breaks down roughly as:

    invoice 30848.00 (EX-L NAV/RES)
    markup 866.83
    sunscreen 209.00
    fog lights 299.00
    tint 200.00
    D&H 515.00

    price 32937.83
    tax 2126.36
    fees 185.80
    total 35249.99

(The exact price for the options probably isn't accurate -- all I really know is what they made the final price add up to).

From what I can tell this is about $2581 below MSRP (using the builder option at www.honda.com and assuming $200 for the tint).

Of course, I don't actually have a vehicle in hand yet but they feel that they should be able to get one within a few weeks.

Last week the same dealer was saying they couldn't do better than "MSRP minus a few hundred dollars" because the Odysseys with NAV were so hard to come by.

i currently station in Guam and I'm shopping around for an EX-L DVD. Guam have only one honda dealership they quote me for $33,600 is that a good price or i should wait until i get back to the state?
  • etaeta Member Posts: 33
I'm pretty sure you can do a lot better in the states. This is what I was quoted recently in the Dallas area for that vehicle:

You requested a Price Quote on a Silver Pearl 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, gray leather w/DVD. This vehicle is availabe . The MSRP for this vehicle is $31,895.00 . I'm pleased to offer you our McDavid Internet "no hassle" price quote of $29,470.00. I believe that you will discover that this price is extremely competitive with the rest of the DFW metro dealerships.*

Unless your price included taxes etc., it seems like they're asking well over MSRP in Guam.

  • guamguam Member Posts: 5
that is a outstanding price may i get that sale person name and phone.
  • guamguam Member Posts: 5
Guam doesn't have local state tax just shipping cost i don't know where I'll be station next not until may. how much is your local state tax?
  • etaeta Member Posts: 33
State tax on cars in the DFW area is 6.25%. I think Texas is on the high side as far as sales tax goes.

If you can get the $29470 price when you get back to the states, even with D&H of $515, your total would be 31859 (with the 6.25% tax) plus $225 or so for licensing etc. for a total of $32084.

And, I suspect that some people might be doing even better than this. If you check earlier in this thread there may be examples for the specific area where you'll be moving.

    Good luck!
