Do u think that $28gs for a toyota camry le '07 with no money down/trade in, $409 month and 8.5% interest is good for a base model car?
I love my Toyota's but at 8.5% I'd rather drive something with 0% or low interest financing available from the domestics. With 0 down you'd better plan on keeping it as you will definately end up with negative equity.
Yes he would be very negative. A $28,000 loan at 8.5% would take almost 8 years to pay off at 409 a month. From a purely financial point of view, if you have an eight year loan, you really can not afford the car.
I think I would look at a lower priced model or a used car. I know I have bought many used cars and usually they make more financial sense.
I am going to guess that the $28gs may be Canadian money but it still seems like a lot, even with the exchange rate. If he could get the out the door price down to about $22,000 then he would end up at about $450 a month at 8.5% for five years. Still a lot but a whole lot better than eight years.
I have a TCH and didn't consider any other Camry's so I'm not really "up" on them, but isn't an LE pretty much a "cheap" model? Even in Canadian funds shouldn't that model with no options be a whole lot cheaper? I bought the TCH mainly because of the high FE and the tax credits. Had it not been for the $2600 FED and $3750 State tax credits I would not have traded. That's partly why I'm having trouble seeing $28,000 base cars as a bargain. My LOADED TCH is going to cost me less than $24,000 after credits. That's a bargain. I don't know that the approx $31,000 TCH would have been in my list of have to own vehicles.
If a mid sized car is not absolutely necessary I believe I would consider a Corolla. My mom and my daughter have one and I find them comfortable, even for me at 6'2" and 250#. They get great milage and the "S" version is especially good looking. All that for a reasonable price with Toyota quality and resale value. Also my son has a Scion Tc and it has incredible resale values without really costing much up front.
My advise (and believe me I've squandered toooo much money on cars): DON'T get more car than you can afford, don't get into a financial difficulty just to get that new body style and to satisfy that "gotta have it" feeling. Do this at a young age and you'll have more money as you grow older to do other important things (raise kids, travel, college...)
I have been negotiating with CA dealership for a 2007 Camry V6 SE with 3500 miles. They bought it at auction because it was reposesed. Car Fax report is clear. It has JBL sound system, moon roof, new car mats, spoiler, stability control, compass, rear seat lights. The sales person said the car was originally $30-31K. It is considered a Preowned Toyota Certified car and has had the 160 pt. inspection and comes with that additional 7 year/100,000 mile warranty from date first sold.
Can someone please tell me if $25,000 is too much money or about right for this car? I had read that if the car is certified you should add $1000-3000 to price.
Also, I am also worried about the transmission problem.
Hey drjames... You can guess what I got... Yeah.... The SE of course I also ended up getting the navigation system. I figured since I am putting so much on this baby, might as well go ahead and get everything together. I paid 550 for the finedrive400 nav system and 700 for the rust, paint, and interior leather pkg + taxes so the final OTD on the car came $50 short of 36k canadian.
It's so hard to get deals here in GTA where dealers are just not willing to budge off the MSRP!
Did you get the rust, paint, and leather interior package included in your price? If so, then you beat me on the deal!
Well assuming it has leather seats and just about everything other than Nav I think you could probably get it for about $27-28,000 (Before TT&L). It might be worth it to save $2000 or $3000 for only 3500 miles. Heck I would probably put more than that amount of miles on the first two months with a new car. It also has a longer warranty than a new one.
Now some of the things that might be a problem for me are. Are you sure it was a repo and not someone who was unhappy with his car? I really don't care much about the 160 pt inspection. It is just another insurance policy for the dealer. If you pay $1000-$3000 extra of course he can afford to certify it. Lastly if you are going to fianance it, you will probably pay more money for a used car than a new one. I think people often forget this when they buy a very new used car. I,myself, am a very big fan of buying used cars. I almost always have a "work" car around the house that I bought used. I just have never been crazy about buying them from dealers but to get something as new as a 2007 Camry that is where you will almost certainly have to go.
I bought a 2007 Camry XLE 4cyl with navigation, heated leather seats, and XM satellite radio. Toyoguard was thrown in for free because I didn't want it. The salesman even threw in a second tank of gas for free.
It was $25,798 before taxes and fees, which came to $27,498. The MSRP was $30k. This was in the Southeast region (AL). Nice car.
Tomorrow I go to the dealer to FINALLY pick up my custom ordered car that I have been waiting 3 months for. I need to know everyone's experience of trade in. This is the deal:
2007 LE Manual 4cly with:
Leather seats Moonroof and wind deflector Aluminum wheels and locks Security System Tinted windows Spoiler Vehicle shield package Car mats
Price - $22,905 before TT&L
For a trade in I have a 2003 buick century in good condition but with almost 109,00 miles on it. KBB, NADA and Edmunds say the trade in value is 4,200 - 5,600. Carmax only offered me 3,000 and I still owe 5,000.
The advice I need is how to get them to go closer to 5k than 3k on the trade in? What has been your experiences????
Thanks so much for any advice! I need it by tomorrow!
Hey zippy786 Congratulations! I didn't even know I could have got a Nav system for $550... that's quite the deal! Most OEM nav systems cost $1500 and up. My Boxter S has one that cost $2700. I did not get the rust nor interior protection, but did get the paint sealant.... for whatever that was worth. So it would seem you still got quite the deal. Price was very close to mine, but given the bargained base price... you still beat me!
As for the GTA dealers... who did you deal with? It couldn't have been to hard considering I'd bet that both you and I are both in the best 10% of price paid. We were both able to knock off over $2000 off MSRP, no?
I think the dealer got me though! I looked up finedrive 400 and it costs like $259 US and I paid 550 Canadian - about 300 Canadian over . I also did research on the vehicle shield package and learned that I really didn't need it b/c:
1. the machine device that they install in the car doesn't really work. 2. The paint sealant - I could have easily just bought and did it on my own - much cheaper 3. Interior leather protection for 3 yrs - gimme a break!
How much did you pay for the paint sealant? Was it included in your $34,500 price?
Yeah - the dealer knocked off about $2700 off MSRP and I got extras for $1425... I got my car from Downtown Toyota. how about you?
For all those that are reading this post - DO NOT PURCHASE THE VEHICLE SHIELD PACKAGE. It is a waste and just a way that the dealer makes more profit off of you, in addition to the holdback which they already hold and profit.
The dealer is Valley HI in Victorville. (up the I-15 towards Vegas) I saw it in the paper the other day. Not sure how long the sale lasts but I don't think that price would be hard to get. Looking at Edmunds it appears to be just about invoice.(assuming you add about $300 for advertising fee) I would guess most dealers would sell you an LE for about that price but would be nice to not have to do the dance to get it. I don't know about any other fees but here in California the doc fee is capped at $45 or $55, I can't remember. I am assuming they include freight and advertising in the price but with dealers you can never tell.
Now I am looking for a V6 SE and when I was talking to the (internet manager?) He was telling me he needed close to MSRP for the car. I told him I could get an LE 4 down the hill for invoice. He told me no problem but then again he knew I was not going to buy one. Most of the guys I have talked to there are pretty cool but I met one that pretty much made me decide I will never use a traditional salesman again.
I am about to purchase a brand new 2007 Camry in the Naperville, IL area and I am curious to know of any top notch dealerships that may offer me a great deal. I am shooting for $100 over invoice. However, I am curious, how should I calculate the destination fee. How much is it and should it be included when I a bargaining for $100 over invoice.
zippy786 lol, was the finance mangager extremely persuasive abouut getting those extras? Was it a she, a quite attractive she at that? They almost always seem to be. lol... Yes, my $34,500 included "free paint sealant, three free key chains (whoo hooo!), two free oil changes, a bottle of red wine, and a paint touch-up pen.
I ended up leaving the downtown core to go towards my old home town and to Whitby Toyota. My parents are still in Durham region and I always dealt with them in the past servicing my old Avalon when I would visit my parents... so, I knew the price I wanted from asking/looking around, called a salesman I kinda knew there from being there so much, and told him this is the model and option I want, if he gives me my price, I'll be in next week to sign the deal...
As for the Nav, how is it? Easy to use? Look good? I bought a can of scotchgaurd for leather and applied it to the Camry's interior. Don't know if it works yet, but it didn't ruin it either.
drjames... nah... I just got carried away... They got me in the door talkin to them b/c they had advertised that they wre giving the nav system for free... but when the deal came to this low of a profit - they told me that their cost was $700.
I know I paid over on the nav, but do you know if I got a fair deal on the package for 700? Or did I pay too much for that too? I just wanted to protect my investment of $30k+ so didn't pay attention...
Looks like you are the one who beat me on the deal man! I think I had gone to Whitby, but they weren't willing to budge off the MSRP.
Nav is cool - As I am new, i felt like having icecream tonight so went down to Baskin Robbins, hehe The nav took me through a shortcut through some neighborhood. At first I thought the machine was crazy, but when I came out right in front of BR, I was pleased
There is a drawback though - As it is satellite operated, it does not speak the name of the streets where you need to turn. I still have to play around with it to make sure that I reallly like it. Love my car though!
zippy786, $700 is actually pretty good, considering rust proofing is a $500 dollar stand alone option and the paint sealant goes for something like $300, and interior protection goes for $200 or something... so, bundled together... they gave you a slight deal. All said, atleast you know that cosmetically, your new car is protected for a very long time. In all honesty, I've been considering going aftermarket rust proofing, need to find out who Toyota dealerships sends their cars out to... since I'd like to have them do it, should be considerbly cheaper than getting it from the dealership. But, first thing's first... gotta get some tint on the windows. I'm also considering getting the 3M clear bra applied to the front end, but don't know if it's really worth it.
lol, if you're not sure about the neighbourhoods in TO, maybe it's not the best thing for you to "blindly" follow the Nav since it might take you through some of the lesser neighbourhoods like High Park or Jane/Finch lol. So where is your Nav system mounted? Is it just sitting on the dash? How does it look. I kinda wish we could get the factory Nav system they get in the states... though it isn't very cheap either...
Glad you're loving your car. It's no longer 'new' for me, but I still find myself babying this car more than usual.
What is your opinion on the 7yr 100k mile warranty for the 2007 camry? I will put that many miles on it in about 3.5 years. Do you think it's work $900? That's what the dealer's offering me. Please let me hear your opinions!
Do you all think it's better to negotiate the price based on the out the door price or is it better to negotiate the price based on a dollar amount over invoice (or a percentage over invoice...ie 1%)?
So for example if I want to buy an XLE V6 with Nav with an MSRP of $31,500 (approx.)should I work towards 100 over invoice (as an example) or should I work for $29500 out the door. These figures are purely for example.
I would not pay extra for a warranty on a Toyota. That car should run for 100,000 mile++ without any problem other than regular maintenance. Don't waste your money.
I've heard that they make a lot on the packages... I was quoted reg. price for rust proofing 700 and the other two at 400 each for a total of 1500. The $1000 you're talking about, is it regular price or discounted? I don't know what their cost is on those to be able to figure out how I did on that deal... am a bit upset about the nav deal
Wrt rustproofing your car, you got that salesman as your contact - just ask him who they do it with. If they do it in house then it may be difficult, but again they always know of someone who does a well job. Good Luck!
For the tint, I am from down South so I need all the warmth I can get dude... so no tint for me - but dealer price in the States is $200 for it.
Hmm... I thought TO was a safe place... Yeah when I was dealing the nav system, I had thought it was the one that comes from Toyota, but realized later after the damage was done... You know I should not say that - the nav system isn't that bad... I am just feeling low about the deal - oh well - it's done... It's a portable nav so I can take it with me wherever and switch it in different cars. Take a look - Here's a review of it from PCWorld:
Zippy, a question about the nav please. Does it make a sound, like a "bing" or a bell sound right at the spot where you are supposed to turn, or does it just say, "in 200 feet turn left" or something like that. Thanks.
Yep - It does both - It tells you to turn in 200 ft etc and right when you're close to the street where you're supposed to turn it makes a "bing" sound indicating that that is the street for the turn.
Anytime! Be prepared for a fight though. A lot of the Toyota dealers are really making you haggle to get much off of MSRP. At least that's my experience.
I would either give an e-mail or fax to dealers within 20 mile radius (st charles, schaumburg, elmhurst, etc) and state (for example), "I will buy a '07 Camry LE by 3pm, Saturday". "Please provide me with your lowest otd price. I will make my purchase with the lowest price." Get them competing after you.
FYI: Northbrook Toyota has a trib ad $18,999 for a '07 LE auto.
The destination fee really isn't negotiable, you can find it when you price it thru edmunds.
Don't be a sucker like I was and got stuck paying the dealer's ad fees for the car.
Hello all - Bought the Camry Hybrid today and was able to get leather seats, moonroof, NAV system, heated seats and mirrors, and mats for a drive out price of $31.2. Can't wait to drive it!
zippy786, the $1000 is what they sell it at. You have to remember, EVERYTHING downtown is marked up. Personally, I think it's priced that way to allow some "negotiating" room, as they did with you. As for the Nav, I guess what's done is done... if you're happy with the Nav's performance, I guess just enjoy it and move on. Looking at the link, it seems like it'd work for exactly what you would expect, and if it's easy to use... then not bad at all. I saw it on Ebay asking about $360 US, so, maybe $500 Canadian is TOO bad of a deal afterall?
About the tint, yeah, it's about $200 + at Tint King, dealer will charge more (no surprise), but will definately ask who does the rustproofing.
And T.O. being safe? lol... It is, atleast relative to its size and compared to similar US cities. I lived in Chicago for Grad school for 4 years, and will definately say T.O. is an amazingly safe city. But, like everyone, we've got our problems too.
No I do not have nav in my current car. My son has a Lexus LS430, and his works as I described, and I was wondering if the TCH was the same. Thanks for the quick responce.
I had read that if the car is certified you should add $1000-3000 to price.
The dealers may want you to believe that but basically this is a new car on warranty and a "certification" at any cost seems like a waste of money to pay extra.
I always have to wonder about a car that new being for sale, what's really wrong with it????
Aarghhh... My friends have bought the car with the rust pkg and the extended warranty for $1000 bucks here in GTA. The sales team at DT was very sharp I must say as they knew I was getting the rust pkg no matter what. Looks like they're good no matter where you go! I guess I am going to put this matter to rest now b4 I have to get in touch with you regarding my bp... Thanks for everything pal!
I am looking to buy my first new car, I'm 22 years old, and have just sold over the weekend my old car. I really want and love the '07 Camry LE 4. I went shopping around and found two Camrys that are exactly alike with one exception. They both have moonroof package, vanatiy mirrors, and rear spoilers and the 5 pc carpet mats 50 state emission and both are black. First one: Sticker price is 23,503.00 this one includes Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel Upgrade 3 yr/36,000 miles (no idea what this means. Can anyone explain?) Second one: 22,854.00.
Where do I begin in negotiating :confuse: and what are hold backs i saw that it says 2% holdback MSRP and PIO Holdbacks.
I really like these cars can anyone help me in what would be the best and reasonable price for either one?
Also I found that they are also posted on-line, what is better to get the best price in person, or on-line?
Liz I am not sure what "extra mile" aluminum wheel upgrade means but I believe steel wheels are standard on the LE so aluminum wheels would be an added option.
Ok for my advise I would ask for a printout on just which option codes were on each car. Sometimes the dealers add some of their own and they are not factory. I really try and stay away from those myself although my last truck had a bed liner, that was was dealer installed. You then take the factory option codes and enter them in edmunds. This will give you the approximate invoice. It will actually be a few hundred extra depending on where you live because of the advertising fee.
I am not sure what part of the country you are in but you should not have to pay more than a couple of hundred over invoice. I would try for invoice. I know several states have some very high "processing fees" too. You should find out what those are and make your offer accordingly. In California, where I live, they are capped so it is not so bad.
Don't fall in love with any car. They make lots of Camry's and if you don't get this one, you will find another for the right price. Get financing arranged before you go to the dealer. They may offer you a better deal but this way they know you are serious and don't really "need" them. Unfortunately you have two problems. First you are young and secondly you are a woman. Like it are not the world is a sexest place and car dealers tend to be a little worse than average. If the deal does not feel right, walk, you can always find another dealer. I would use the internet to find some prices too.
Just remember the Edmunds invoice is not the true invoice. The advertising fee varies depending on location so your dealers invoice will be higher. Most dealers will show me their invoice if they know I am serious or just tell them I looked it up on Edmunds. I doubt you will get a dealer to sell to you for less than invoice. I personally would email three or four and see what they can do. Anything within a couple of hundred of invoice would probably be good. I know here I can buy a basic LE for invoice all day long. I don't know what the market is like there. (Baton Rouge??) I usually go to LSU every year for some training.

That's robbery. You can get a base le '07 for $20K

I am thinking of getting a used 07 Camry off Ebay and just bringing the Camry to my local dealer...
NO!
First one: Sticker price is 23,503.00 this one includes Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel Upgrade 3 yr/36,000 miles (no idea what this means. Can anyone explain?)
Second one: 22,854.00.
Thanks,
Liz
Good luck and have fun.
You shouldn't have to pay more than $300 over dealer invoice but you have to do a little work.
