    Get a spray in liner...Line-X
    or Rhino
  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
The strong points of Spray-in liners are that they are TOUGH and easy to 'repair' a scratch (if one manages to drop an axe on one) They are essentially a thick coating of polyurathane with bits of 'roughage' added in.

Additionally, They exhibit NONE of the drawbacks of the plastic-tub type of liner such as ... Wear off the paint and trap moisture which promotes RUST, Rattles/squeeks, and, most importantly, build up static charges which has been known to cause explosions under certain conditions.

IMHO the factory bedliner is as good as any. I like the fact that no holes had to be drilled. Lots of previous discussion about spray in vs. bedliners. Suggest you consider the pro's and con's of both.

I just bought a 2000 f-150, Does any one know
if a 1999 Air Deflector will fit the 2000? All
afermarket dealers don't have any deflectors for
the 2000's yet. To me the front ends look the same
    just a different grille.

    randallf1,
Both of the major manufacturers have toll free phone numbers on their boxes. When I got the deflector for my '99 Super Duty in May of '98 I called and asked for the correct model number. Then I beat up Pep Boys until they ordered it for me. Their only concern was that I pay for it in advance. It was $5 more then their stock models because of the special order. I don't remember the brand but I think that the company was in Georgia.

    Good luck,
    Rich

Has anyone found aluminum or stainless nerf bars for the Tundra regular cab models. I have found them for the access cabs, but not for the regular cabs. Thankyou

I would like to install a keyless entry system on my 1992 Chevy C1500 truck but am having trouble locating where the wiring is to the existing power door locks. Is it in the door, under the dash, where? If in the door, how do I take door panel all the way off? I've had it mostly off before, but it is stuck up by the window and do not want to force it and mess something up. Can someone please try to walk me throug this? Thanks!

I've owned two Extang tonnos. Both x-cellent products.First one was Classic Platinum.Recently traded for Ford Ranger that is a platinum color. So I wanted a black framed tonno.I chose Extang Black Max looks great.Dealer where I purchased mine told me that "Saber" model had problems with ultraviolet reacting with the plastic fastening system.Of course Extang honored warranties, but was a pain to replace covers that were defective. But by now I would think by now that problem is rectified. All soft covers are difficult to refasten in cold weather, some are just a little bit easier because of adjustments.I think soft types are best for versatility.Roll up to carry larger items and the like. But everyone has different needs.

Recently I have been looking at some so called "porkchop" toolboxes to go in the sides of my pickup bed, behind the wheel. Does anyone have any information on types, preferences, etc? I have seen both the cheapie plastic type and the expensive steel type, but I haven't seen any of the diamond plate types.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I need to do some more shopping around. I have a few more places locally to try, I would like to put my hands on some of the boxes before I buy.

    Have a great new year!

Has any one out there installed a edwards roll top along with a aux. fuel tank in the front of the box in a F250... would like to know: hieght, clearance, placement of hoses. The only tanks I have seen, have the hoses going over the front of the box and they down behind the cab. The roll top has a 9" receiving box, and I do not want to give up any more space in the front of the box than needed. Also this will not give the rool top a tight seal or keep water out.

    Any help out there.........

Ordered a 00 F250 Lariat, psd,cc,sb, loaded to the nuts. Plan on pulling my new Nash 5th wheel with it.

I have never been so excited about geting a set of wheels like this befor. From what I read, I am not alone. Happy Y2K

Shop for the boxes on the internet first and then contact the manufactures to find your local dealers that carry them. They are not inexpensive but they keep your "stuff" from rolling around the bed and still keep the main area open for cargo.

I am Looking for a good folding (hard) tonneau cover that can lock. Any comments or experiences with Fold-a-cover or Aerocover. These are the only two I have found. Are there any others?

I'm looking for a cap for a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. Any info appreciated.

The two I'm considering are the A.R.E. (if the CX - flush, frameless windows becomes available) and the Leer.

The Leer is a couple hundred bucks more expensive.

Alternatively, I may opt for an A.R.E. LSII fiberglass lid. Comments?

    thanks..

    -Curt
  • devontiedevontie Member Posts: 35
I had a ARE cap on my last truck it was good. However. the Leer cap is nicer looking. On my new truck I'm not getting a cap, I think the truck looks better with out it.
  • coulterccoulterc Member Posts: 21
Thanks for the info. Yeah, Devontie, they look nice w/out a cap, but I need the "trunk" space. :-)

I'll check out glasstite, but that's a STEEP price, I almost choked on the 1300 for the Leer cap for the Quad Cab.

Try and find a Raider they are made in Canadia and are made very good. I am on my 2nd one now as the first one was on a Ford that I got tipped over and when it was on its top the cap held the pu up and only had one crack just above the window on the right side so when I bought a new pu I went back and got one for it. It is cab high with lining, sliding windows and dual latches got it for 1000.00 with the heavy rubber seal, tie dns and painted to match pu including tax and the tail gate protector that has the lip to keep water out. It is on a 2000 chev silverado.

I have used a Fold-A-Cover for many years with great success. It is a custom 5-panel version and is more water tight than I expected. But they now refuse to make that model. The standard model has a fixed front panel while the Total Access model has all 4 panels opening but may leak more than my unit. I tow a 5th wheel trailer with the cover open and can quickly drop the trailer and close and lock the cover. This can still be done with today's 4-panel models which gives you 75% of the bed open for carrying large objects. With Aerocover, you cannot travel with the cover open and if you need to remove one panel, you must remove the entire cover and then find a place to store it.

OK so I'm always dishing out the advice - this time I need some. I want a good 8,000 / 9,000 lb winch. Use it mainly for off roading, especially in snow, but when I get one I may as well make life easier on a steep, wet boat slip as well.

    Any suggestions?
  • m1685m1685 Member Posts: 71
I used to have a 9,000lb Warn xd9000i and i loved it. It got me out of things i did not think it would. i had a 95 ext cab z71 with the warn classic bumper, wish i could have fit it on my new truck. The only problem i had was I went off-road more because i had the winch, plus my friends would give me a call to pull them out, which got old.

I am planning to put an auxiliary tank in my '00 Silverado and need technical help. In my old '89 I used a gravity feed into the main tank and it worked fine. However, I understand that current law requires the fuel outlet be higher than the fuel inlet which means a fuel pump is required for fuel transfer between tanks. However, I don't feel the need for a second fuel gauge or direct pumping from the second tank to the engine. I am looking at the fuel and tool combo from Handy Industries. Can anyone suggest a low flow rate out-of-tank electric fuel pump and fuel filter to use with this tank? Any other suggestions? Thanks for any info.

I opted to pay about $400 less for the SuperWinch X9 for my 95 ext. cab Z71. So far so good. I like the look of a winch on a winch bumper but I opted to set the winch up to be used on the front or the back of the truck. I have factory dual batteries and I ran 2 gauge wire from the passenger side battery to the front and another set from the drivers side battery to the back of the truck. I have a quick connect on the winch and both ends of the truck. While I was at it I put a quick connect on the jumper cables so I don't have to pop my hood and connect those damn side terminals (I give a lot of jumps and this was a pain.).

I want a rollup or foldup cover for my 2000 Silverado shortbed pickup bed. Because of the humidity here in Florida it must be 99.9% water tight. Any leakage will cause mildew/mould since the weather is usually too humid to allow the moisture to evaporate.

Appreciate any info you may be able to provide. Manufacturer name and cost info would be most helpful.

    Thanks

If anyone is interested, I just changed out the rims on my '98 GMC Sierra Z71 4x4. I'm selling the original ones. There's nothing wrong with them, I just wanted a more agressive chrome/retro look instead of the new classy alloy look.

The rims are 16x7, 6 lug and only have 13,500 miles on them. Never taken off road. They're in great condition! They'll fit Pickups, Suburbans, Yukons, Tahoes, and Vans.

The selling price is $250 (or best offer) for the set of 4 and I'll pay half of the shipping (shipping will probably be about $30 based on my experience). They come complete with valve-stems and center caps.

If you're looking to replace your standard rims with something classy and sporty looking, this is a great bargain.
If you're interested please contact me at
catntim@cybermesa.com . I'll send you a picture of them both on and off the truck.

Is anyone with this lid having a problem with it sealing? On mine there is a 1/4 inch gap between the rubber seal in the lid and the
frame, so there is no seal what-so-ever. My distributor at first told me that they all were like that, but would order me a new one.
When it didn't come in after 3 weeks, I called them and they told me it would be another 3 weeks because A.R.E. was re-vamping
the mold and frame for the 99-00 trucks to make them fit correctly. Has anyone else heard of this or are they handing me a line of
    bull?
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
Not quite sure what the problem is. I have absolutely no problem at all. I assume that adjusting the four pegs that stop the lid from rubbing against the truck made no difference. May be a problem with the hinge - I don't know, just guessing.

In terms of revamping - well I have had one on my 2000 since early October, but given that A.R.E. do tailor lids to specific trucks it may be right if there has been a design change in your truck.

    Anyone have one?
if so, what are your likes/dislikes about it.
Know of any makes, models, links, etc.
  • y2k4aly2k4al Member Posts: 11
Andy: The lid is for a 2000 silverado. The problem is that when the lid is closed, the rubber seal is 1/4 inch outboard from the mounting frame which it is suposed to seal on. The wind blows right under the lid, getting everything in the back dirty, wet or both. I adjusted the rubber stops all the way down, and the rubber seal won't even contact the truck rail. Well, I have a new one coming in three weeks...I guess I will have to wait and see how they changed it.

    Thanks

As the new owner of both a '99 Mazda B3000 pickup and a '99 Ford Ranger XLT (basically both are the same), I have done a lot of research on aftermarket products.

After checking the pros and cons of drop-in and spray-in bedliners and bedrugs, I bought a Herculiner roll-on kit on the advice of a mechanic friend who had just used it.

The kit is approximately $100 at retail outlets, but I bought mine on Ebay.com for $79 including shipping. Then my mechanic friend applied it to the Mazda for $75.

Although the smell was pretty strong for a couple of days (and then disappeared), I think this liner beats most of the other things I saw. It's thicker than spray-on liners and I haven't been able to scratch it yet. It only comes in black, but since the truck is black, that's just fine.

I'll either use Herculiner for the Ranger or switch over to a bed rug. It's so humid here in Florida that I'm worried about mildew in the bed rug, and several drop-in liner people have shown me how badly their liners have warped in the heat. It got down to 32 degrees here one night and the Herculiner was fine in that, too.

Check it out before you spend $350 for a spray on or drop in liner. I'm perfectly pleased with it! Oh, and I'd love more input on bedrug, too!

I have a bedrug in my 2000 Silverado SB. I bought the bedrug for three reasons. First, the truck is leased, and the bedrug attaches using velcro and double-sided tape. This should be easy to remove if I want to do so at the end of my lease. Second, I have a tonneau cover, so the bedrug won't get exposed to much weather. Finally, the bedrug is cushioned, so when I crawling on it my knees don't get as hurt (I have bad knees).

After having used the bedrug for a couple of months I been fairly happy with it. It has about the right amount of friction - most things sitting on it won't slide but I can move them when I want to (to push boxes to the front of the bed, for instance). I have a bed extender that normally stays flipped forward, giving me a 20" "trunk" at the rear of my bed. The bedrug is really nice with this setup, since I can put boxes, bags, pies, etc. in the bed and not have them slide all over the place. However, it is a pain to get clean after hauling wood or dirt - it's just like cleaning the inside of a normal trunk.

I think that on my next truck I'll get a regular plastic bedliner with some form of protection between it and the truck bed (to prevent scratches). Then I'll get a $50 rubber mat to put over it to stop things from sliding around so much. If the mat isn't enough I'll probably get some cheap office carpet and attach (staple?) it to the mat for additional resistance. By using a removable mat I can carry firewood, dirt, hay, etc. without having the cleanup problems that I do now.

I recently purchased the extang to replace a velcro cover that i made the mistake of buying for 100 dollars at Pep Boys. It's like a world of difference. Whereas the old cover had 3 flimsy support bows, the extang has 4 thicker ones. YEs, the extang does get really hard to snap in 40 degrees or below, but the old one was totally impossible because there was no way to adjust it so I can work with the extang. I also like that you can unsnap it anywhere on the bed so you dont have to take the whole thing up to get to something that isn't near the tail gate. All in all, I'll call it 260$ well spent

i'm considering the Lund Racerback for my 95 Ranger regular cab. Anybody here have any experience with it? My main fear is that it will en largen the already large blindspot this truck has because of the wide cab pillars. If it does increase the blind spot i probably won't bother. REspond here or please email me at eharri3@gl.umbc.edu

    Hi,
I'm going to buy a tonneau to carry me over until the cap manufacturers catch up and make some decent caps for my 00 dakota quad.

I'm unsure which kind to buy, the Classic (snaps) or the Sabre (zip-loc style attachment). The price difference is negligible. We will be in and out of the back quite a bit so ease of use and keeping water/dirt out are the top priorities.

    Any tips/comments appreciated!
