I think I'm going to choke Pruitt's fleet manager. I went out there to do an in and out with my truck so it would save me on my taxes. I got to talk to the manager about my truck. He went to a book to look my truck up and MY TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN PICKED UP BY FORD. I thought I was going to hit the ceiling. So... for now I get to drive a 1974 (wrong date earlier) Delta 88. With no air that is not a good thing when yesterday we were, Wichita Falls, TX, the hottest place in the nation. Don't think he is going to get a call from me atleast every other day.

The manager did tell me that my order was not a 10 priority but an 11. Also, I talked to him about a V10 and he said that their v10's were getting picked up before the 5.4's were.

    Here we go!

Ordering update - Called Gwen in KY today 9/10 and she said my truck is due off the line today. She has no idea how long it takes from here on out, but I think it should be in about this time next week. (I hope).

I drove through a Ford dealership today just to browse.....there was an extended cab F250 in the rear lot with the passenger side front quarter panel completely crushed and the wheel was bent almost 90 degrees inward!!!....still had the plastic on the seats. Almost looks like it was dropped, maybe in transit from KY.....sure hope it wasn't someone's order.....saw another one at the same place several weeks ago with a crushed roof.....plastic still on seats.....

So much for my six week countdown.....
Dealer told me Friday that I got bumped because of allocation(?) and it could take up to 120 days or it could be scheduled tommorrow...... sounds fishy....he said that dealers are allocated a % of Lariats out of their total superduties, and once they reach that point (3 at this dealer, I am #4,) they have to go through another cycle(?)1-1 1/2 months, before it will be built. Anyone know anything about allocations? You,Brutus?...Anybody?
  • kirkpamakirkpama Member Posts: 64
My understanding is that they are allocated a certain number of units. These units can be any package that they want as long as there are no holds on any item in that package. They can order lariats for every unit that they are allocated or they can order XLT for every one, the factory tells them how may allocations they have, but doesn't tell them what they can order. It sounds fishy to me also.
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
dennis4 I agree with kirkpama, My experience was similar to yours. My truck is due in this week, I'm positive it is on its way, I've been talking with Kentucky directly. Its been 20 weeks. The dealers are given allotments which I believe is based on car sales. The more cars they sell the more truck allotments they are given. Secondly the dealer assigns a priority code. I believe 10 is the highest, mine was 20. Don't believe what they tell you, ask for a print out of the order, the priority is on the print out. I think they assign higher priorities to those who pay more, makes sense if your going to get more profit get that truck in first. I made a deal at 1.5% over invoice so they weren't making as much profit as they could have, therefore the priority 20.

They (the sales staff) try to make you feel better by telling you they can get the truck in 6 to 8 weeks and then drag it out when they knew in the first place they couldn't meet a six week deadline.

If I were you I would ask for a complete printout of the order.

I stopped at my favorite dealer and told him I would be in to order one (SD F250 4WD Lariat, CC shortbed), and asked when I should order to get it in by June next year. He was surprisingly honest, saying I should expect a 4-5 month period from order to delivery. I'm not going in with a 6-8 week expectation, thanks to the experiences I've seen reflected on this forum.

    I ordered a F 350 4x4 drw V 10 Lariat on Sept 2
I had a Vin# on 9-9 and learned the the build
week of 10-5 today. I've been a loyal Chevy owner
for 20 years, I guess my dealer wants me in a
SD before I change my mind
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
Make sure if you change to a Dodge, it's because you want a Dodge, not because of the Ford dealer yoiu are working with. I'd think of your truck purchase as a business decision and try not to let personal feelings get in the way. If you decide to stick with the Ford, finding a new dealer may be warranted. Remember that orders are pulled on Thursday night. I'd let it ride until Friday so you can make sure that your order wasn't pulled on Thursday. If you determine that you want a Dodge because you have determined that it is a better truck for the money, then by all means, buy the Dodge.

I still see claims of ordering and receiving vehicles very quickly and for the life of me can't understand why others are waiting so long like me. My order date is 8/4 and my dealer says he still has no word of a build date I'm a priority 10 for what ever thats worth. My dealer claims, and I guess I have to agree, why would they not want to get my truck in as soon as possible they make a profit as soon as it happens. But I still have to wonder just what is the true story.

    Hello,
Ordered a F250SD CC V10 XLT 2 wks ago, found this
chat site a week ago, interesting reading.....
The ordered Truck was from Sawgrass Ford, south Fla. A total of one Month was spent on the websites of Autobytel, microsoft carpoint, Kelly
blue book and a host of links that pointed to one of the afore mention. A total of 8 Ford dealers in the central southern Florida area were talked to and pricing disscussed. Some were more upfront about the ALLOCATION number of super dutys available per month and stated they would order the truck for me but dont expect to see it anytime soon, the profit from a 1.5% of, or 500.00 over invoice does not induce them to sell when arrival comes and there is a cusomer waiting to pay 3-4k over invoice at the door, (so to speak). I was told by some that a flat payment of 1k over invoice would warrant a deliverly date of 8-12 weeks. Again, its been interesting reading here. All in All, Its "supply and demand", "market value add on". I wish everyone
    good fortune and short wait.
I ended my quest back at the first dealer I contacted via Microsoft Carpoint, Sawgrass Ford, they not only gave the price quoted via phone but faxed the Spec sheet with all the numbers and signed it. I stopped by Sawgrass Ford, confirmed the paperwork, and was gone in 15 mins.
    regards

I'm Going to wait a year at least til all the hype
    and bugs are gone.
My old 93 Chev will just be fine. With a new hyper chip. dah1

    dah1 your logic is very good, it brought to mind;
I remember a saying in the computer industry,
"never buy version 1.0 of anything" let someone else figure out the bugs.
The F250SD line has been out since early year so must be up to at least version 1.01 as it takes about six months to get the most annoying bugs fixed. There will be more but usually of lesser
    annoyance.
As I also recall, GM used to be the king at releasing new models full of bugs. "let the field test em". On the same note, the last model year of production was usually the best also..

    Hello everybody from Edmonton Canada,

I have never had so many people stop and look
at a vehicle of mine since I had my 1968 Mustang Conv on a hot summers day. I know for a fact that every Dodge owner is cursing Dodge for not having crew cabs. In the last week I have had 4 Dodge ext cab owners come and take a look at my truck in awe. I love it!

Still can't believe that my truck came in six weeks as I have one of the few crew cabs in town and it is great. I have no complaints yet I especially can't get over the sound system and how the CD player has not skipped.

My dealer also sold me there oil change for life
special which cost $500.00 CDN it gives me an oil change every 5000 Km for as long as I own the truck. I think that this will pay for itself in the first year as I drive my diesel around 60,000 Km's a year.

Hang in guy's as the wait is definitely worth it.

    Take care,
    Fred.

Checksix. Well I might as well add my name to the list of Ford guys waiting and waiting. Ordered my F-350 SD 4x4 SuperCab diesel Lariat package with ALL the bells and whistles on 6/27. Made the deal at $400 over invoice. From reading the recent posts I am happy with the deal considering the popularity and shortage. Still no build date or encouragaing words from my dealer. Just thought you would like to know of one more guy on the "LIST. Thanks to all. informative and interesting reading. Will let everyone know when I hear something.

Question - with esof as an option, can you still get out of your vehicle and manuelly set the wheels in a 4 wheel drive mode and how do you go back into 2 wheel drive if you do not have esof ? Also no one ever talks about snowplowing with this supposedly awesome truck, aren't there some snowplow people out there that see this truck as " the best available for small business use" ? I would think some mountain oriented people would already have plowed with this vehicle.

    Hopefully our day will come.....
    Five weeks and waiting...

I have just been informed by my dealer that I will not be getting the 250 sd that I had ordered back in early July because of slow build of the V-10 motor. He says that Ford has told him it would be late Dec. or early Jan. before it is built. Now he wants me to pay more because of the wait. I am wondering if any body else is having same problem and what solutions they have come up with. Also have heard of very unfavorable gas mileage with the V-10 any body care to comment?
  • drozdroz Member Posts: 30
    TOM18,

With the ESOF, you can still manually engage the hubs or disengage them. So, I assume (I haven't had to try it yet since the ESOF has worked flawless everytime) that if the ESOF fails, you will still have 4WD available. My only uncertainty, and I am not sure if it can happen, is if for some reason the ESOF locked in 4WD, will the manual disengage the hubs?
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
No truck yet. I know it was built on 9/17 and I assume it is enroute. Its Monday AM and I'm waiting for the dealer to open so I can see if it made it in over the weekend. I will definitely give everyone an update when it comes in. The first 120 miles will be the trip from the dealer to my home.
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
Finally!! The dealer called me about noon and said it was in. I'll be going down Weds. morn to pick it up. More later.
  • gobrownfishgobrownfish Member Posts: 44
What does your dealer want you to pay more for ?
I believe you are forgetting who is wanting to
sell and who has the money. Never pay anybody
money to treat you bad. There's too many dealers
around to be treated as such. I hope I don't
have to eat my words but if I am jacked around
like you mentioned then I have a very good vehicle
that I'm sure will last another year or until the
"crunch" is gone. I've been a Ford man for many
years but I'm not above driving a new Dodge or a
new Chevy. (did I really say that)
I am anxious to get my truck as much as the next
but if my dealer or Ford cannot produce within a
reasonable amount of time then I'll do something
    different.

As for the milage issue, most of us that has
ordered the Super Duty usually pull a recreational
unit or a boat or camper unit. If you go with the
V-8 you have to push the engine somewhat and your
gas milage suffers. With the V-10 you will get
near the same milage while towing with the power
to spare if needed. Its the same reason most go
with the PSD but in my case I hate the noise but
    each year it is improving.

I sure hope a company the size of Ford can handle
their orders. The Super Duty is a good looking
    truck, Good Luck.

    ARN,
I would like to know what kind of SD you ordered. When I had a serious talk with my dealer about how long it was taking my cc SD v8 to come in he then talked to a ford rep. The next day he said that V10 orders were being picked up faster than the v8's. BUT, take that for what it is worth because I have caught him in two lies already ( or at least he was telling me what the average idiot would want to hear).

What kind of gas milage were you hearing. Three that I know of: One was 9 mpg in a SD 250 cc.
another was also a 250 cc this man quoted me 12.5 intown and 15 on the highway. The last was on a dealers, 250 supercab, He said he drove from here to Houston, TX (7-8 hr drive can't remember exactly) He got 15.3 there and back. the same truck pulled a two horse trailer (with horses) on a two hour trip and got 14.3.

I was going to get the v8, but after talking with more and more people about power and resale value I went with the v10. My '93 f-150 got about 13 mpg. I hope to at least get that in my new truck if it ever comes in. that '74 Delta 88 is getting old already.

I would also like to here some feed back on the v10 problem if there is a problem
  • chadw1chadw1 Member Posts: 22
    P.S.
Another person tookl the time to email me and said her v10 with 5 speed and 3.73 rear end was getting her 13-14 mpg. She said her truck had 2300 miles on it with about 6-7 fill ups.

Add me to the waiting list! I ordered a F250SD XLT Crew Cab short bed 4x4 with v10, auto, 4.30 Limited slip, red, on 8/19/98. The order was sent to Ford on 8/20/98 (priority 10) . As of 9/21/98 I have an "Item number" but the dealer says that it doesn't have a VIN number or build date yet. I am in Arizona, an am seeing more and more on the road. My dealer said that the factory is all caught up with the back orders now, and it should only be a few more weeks. Is that BS?
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
I ordered my truck on 5/4 it arrived, at the dealer on 9/21. 20 weeks to the day.
  • stanfordstanford Member Posts: 606
Well, I called the dealership -- my truck should be in tomorrow and I can pick it up any time after 1:00pm! That's 2 days ahead of schedule!

I ordered it on 8/18, so that's 36 days! I got it from a much smaller dealership than I had planned, but they had no allotment problems and got the order in that week. V10, L/S, 4X4, the works.

Now how the #$*&!@ am I supposed to concentrate on work today and tomorrow?
  • lawman1lawman1 Member Posts: 9
After waiting since June 27 when my order was placed at the dealer for my F-350 SD, SC 4X4 PSD with the Lariat Pkg, I was told today that my order has not been pulled yet because Ford now has a shortage of the Premium stero w/CD player. I have a choice of deleting the CD and my order will probably be pulled next week, or waiting to see how long the shortage takes. The dealer said that he could put in a six-pack CD for $450-500 but it would not go in the designated radio spot in the dash. I don't know what to do at this point. I would like to have the truck by mid November, but I'm afraid the after market radio will look odd and out of place, not to mention the extra $$. Has anyone heard or had similar problems with the CD option or any ideas about an after market stereo. Thanks to all for some really good posts in the past and look forward to reading more in the future.
  • stanfordstanford Member Posts: 606
Nope. Mine has the CD player -- no delays. I'm planning on pulling mine out and throwing it away anyway -- putting in a Sony DXC90. I just wanted to listen to CDs for the month or so before I redo my stereo in the new truck.

I ordered a lariat CC 4X4 ESOF DRW etc etc with everything -- the only delay was the dark red paint which I switched to black.
  • pworangepworange Member Posts: 57
I ordered the CD and to my knowledge it did not delay the order, of course with a 20 week wait it would be hard to tell.
  • AirwolfAirwolf Member Posts: 142
Aftermarket radios are always better in my opinion, and quite often cheaper-- as long as you pick the right one. An aftermarket radio with many more features than that factory model, can often retail at less than the add'l cost of the factory "upgrade." I always take out the stock radio and replace it with an indash CD/cassette and an amp.

Thanks for the info. I presently have an older F-150 that I put an after market CD player into, after taking out the stock radio, it's great an looks good, but I'm just a little afraid with the 99 SD being re-tooled in the interior that the after market radios industry will be playing catchup and will leave me with limited options that look good for quite sometime. If I delete the option today I can have my order pulled this week and an ETA of around Oct 24-31. My wife says lets wait and see if the radios come in and let our order stand, I want the truck so badly I can taste it and I want it ordered YESTERDAY. I guess we will have to "discuss" it again tonight as I have to let the dealer know soon as to how I want it ordered.

When I was deciding on getting the factory CD
player or an after market model I took into
consideration that the factory deck not only had the CD player and a tape deck but upgraded speakers as well. If I were to get this option in a after market stereo(sony)it would have cost me $600.00 (installed) just for the deck which did not include upgrading the speakers. The other option I had was to get a tape deck with a 10 pack CD changer for $500.00 then I had the job of finding a safe place in the cab where it wouldn't be kicked and abused by getting in and out of the cab or from the movement of the seats.(plus the cost of upgrading the speakers). I opted for the factory CD player and I think I made a good choice as I have gone through plenty of rough gravel roads and the CD has yet to skip and the sound is incredible. If I were you I would hang in there and wait for the factory CD player and take advantage of Fords warranty, proper installation with a deck that actually
fits in the dash not on your lap from any bump
    you may hit.

    Hi Jb,

Yes, My truck has the power trailer tow mirrors.
I put the rig in the garage once to see if it would fit, I had about an inch clearance on both sides of the mirrors but with the crew cab long box it was to tight to close the overhead door. If worse came to worse and you had to fold your drivers side mirror it would only be a problem in the rain as they are very easily moved. I recently
added a canopy with the rise in the back which
makes the canopy 36" high. Now I really have to
pay attention, I bet I'm inch's away from the
overpasses on the highway. This truck is turning
into a super giant you should see the heads turn when I pull up to a job site.

    someone asked about mileage...

I bought a 99 F350 Lariat 4x4 Reg. Cab Longbed V10 Auto 3.73ls on 9/2 and left on vacation to Maine from Florida on 9/5 returned 9/20.

Mileage varied from 12.8 (worst) to 14.97 (best). Use was mostly highway with perhaps 700 lbs. of payload including passengers. Speed varied from 60 to 70 mph and a/c was used 75% of the time. I did notice that the fuel light came on with around 8.5 gallons of gas remaining instead of the 3 listed in the manual. I think the gauge is reading about 5 gallons too low. Does anyone know if their is a calibration?

I now have 3,700 miles on the truck and hate to put so many on so quick but it was a good shake down/break in trip.

Reguarding trailer tow mirrors. I really wanted them, but when I found out they only fold back, not forward, like most standard mirrors. I knew the first time I backed out of my garage and broke one off I would not be a happy camper. As I have had my mirror fold back on several occasions while getting within an inch on one side ( but I guess I was closer to two inchs ) and the other mirror caught the other door jamb.

Well her is the latest. I took your advise and called Gwen at Ford. Gave her my order # etc and told her my problem with the CD being in short supply and hence my order being held up. See was very helpful and told me that to her knowledge there was no shortage (even confirmed it with a co-worker). Aloso told me that I had an Unscheduled/clean order. I hung up with her and called my dealer. I told him who I spoke with and the phone # and his reply was that since so many people had access to the Internet and were calling Ford, the Ford personnel (Gwen) are told to tell the customer that there really is no problems or shortages in the hopes that you will not start looking at other brands like Dodge or Chevy. I thought that this was one of the dumbest statements going. I am going to wait until tomorrow and see if my order is pulled with the CD still in and see what happens.

Nothing like putting it in twice.
  • longhairlonghair Member Posts: 72
It was stuff like lawman mentioned that prompted me to cancel my order and look for a new dealer. After being told for months that "It's the next order that will get pulled" then "they pulled it, it will be here in six weeks". All the while, they were turing over about 5 trucks a week in the lot. When 6 weeks rolled around, my salesman and manager were out of town on vacation, so I had another salesman pull it up on the screen. Turned out that they had been bumping my order back and there were 17 others in line to be ordered before me (and one of those was for a fleet of 15).
I'd rather start over with a dealer I can trust.

(so if you have a recommendation for a dealer ...)
(Here's where the internet information never makes it to the salesman - It's well publicized that a CC, DRW 4x4 F350 Lariat is running 14+ weeks on special orders, so if the salesman quotes the standard "4-6 weeks" I know he really doesn't know about SuperDuty delivery issues and can go on to the next one.)
  • longhairlonghair Member Posts: 72
I too was disappointed to find that they only fold back. That's fine when I hit something moving forward, but what if I'm parked and someone sideswipes me? Parking my _old_ van in town always meant I had to keep a spare mirror with me, 'cause someone will always hit it while parked on main street. (The rigid "west coast style" mirrors didn't fold either way)

Has anyone seen/heard of a solution?

I've been reading for awhile, but never posted as I learn a lot from all of you and don't have anything to offer at present. However I thought I could at least get on the "waiting" list. Ordered 250sd sc v8 xlt lariat/leather 3.73/LS
ESOF on 8/19. I currently drive 97 gmc Z71 that
I waited 23 weeks to get. I told the ford dealer that I did not want to go through that again; so
    we'll see.

    jingo,
You may not be aware of this, but at 60 MPH it is more fuel efficient to run with A/C than with the windows down. It has to do with the aerodynamic drag and such. This was one of the facts tossed about during the '73 gas crunch.

Yahoo!!! Picked up my truck Wed. drove it 120 miles from the dealer home. Happy is not a strong enough word to describe how I feel. No vibrations, rides great (as tracks go). I couln't be happier with the "bright amber" color. Everyone comments on how nice the color is. The truck was on the lot two days before I could pick it up and they had two offers to buy it. I got the diesel, 4X4, Lariat. I added a bed mat, tool box (black diamond plate) and bug screen. I absolutely love it. It took 20 weeks to the day to get it, but now it was worth it. I realize that it's to early to be very meaningful but with 330 miles on it the trip computer says I'm averaging 17 mpg. (city/highway.

I have the towing mirros and while they do stick out I don't find them a problem. I live in Japan for 5 years and had to park my car in a garage whre I only had about 1" clearance on each side. It was tough at first but I got used to it and never scratched the car in 5 years.

I'll check in on this page every now and then, when I'm not driving my truck. Good luck all!!!

By the way when I was picking up my truck the manager said that things seem to picking up on orders. They ordered a 350 crewcab for someone and it was picked up in just three weeks.

Hey pworange, the bright amber, is it closer to a burnt orange or a red? In the brochure it looks closer to a red, but when I looked at the paint chip at the dealer, it looked very close to a burnt orange. Which is it?
