    $
same here in CA. why would anyone who lives in 75 degree all year round want to have a 4wd? doesnt make sense to buy a 4wd in CA or FL when your only using it to drive to work and stay within city.

I have my eye on a 2WD EX-L, new 2007, with about 4,000 miles on it. I'm fine with that, as I can still get the same price on the extended warranty that I plan to buy as if it had zero miles, but I have no idea how much to expect off the price for the mileage. I can't find any listings for 2007's as used cars as of this posting. Any advice appreciated!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
If its not a used car and a demo you would be the first titled owner. The 4000 miles is about $1000-1300 off. $7200-$7500 off MSRP is a good deal for now. Demos aren't always a good deal as the store tries to work them and get near the price of a new car out of them. Its an ego thing. The going rate for the 8/120 Hondacare is about $1200.

Check out my message 14394 in the Accord prices paid section for useful resources on how to buy a car.

Thanks--I did check out your message and ordered the book you suggested.

Is the $7200-$7500 you suggest with or without the mileage adjustment?

I won't buy it unless they give me an adjustment for the mileage--I just didn't have any idea how much to ask for.

    Thanks very much!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
That would be with the mileage adjustment. However last summer the new ones were going for about $7500 off. And the prices now have been dropping about $300/mo so if you're in no hurry.....

I am in the Syracuse, NY area and am looking to purchase a 2007 Pilot 4WD EX-L with RES. Have received only 2 quotes as of today from dealers: (I'm waiting on about 9 others)
    (MSRP $34,845 + 595 destination charge)

    30,600+ tax and tags
    30,468+ tax and tags

From what I read, Looks like I can do better than this. Any advice??
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Not bad for opening bids. Email 9 more. Make sure they have your cell. See what happens last week of the month. Your (mental) target is 29000 ish. Give 2-3 color choices. Find the one-three behind on his sales targets and work them.

My neighbor told me that April 15 is the end of the fiscal year for dealerships and as such it's a great time to get a good deal because dealerships don't want to pay taxes on their inventory? Is this true or is my neighbor full of bologna?

We are in the process of looking for a Pilot and have been reading your posts. Some of you have mentioned the Fighting Chance website and I was wondering if it helps you even more than this chatboard. Also, we are looking to purchase in the Kansas City area or within 6 hours in vicinity and am wondering if anyone has had some really good prices on Pilots.

I emailed several of the dealers in the KC area last month and the best offer came from Lee's Summit Honda. The internet salesman also said he would match any documented offer and he had 07 EXL 4WD in all 5 color options I was interested in. I've decided to hold off until summer but definitely email them and the others and see what you can get. I was quoted right at $29k plus a $199 documentation fee. You should be able to get at least another $400-$500 off that easily.

I also looked at Lee's Summit. I live in Des Moines, IA but would have considered driving there for a good deal. They seemed eager to please but every time they sent me an email offer, the text was blank. I emailed them back several times and never got a reply. I called several times as well but always got the voicemail. I'm sure it isn't my email since I receive and send things all the time and that was the only one with problems. Anyway, I ended up at Holmes Honda in Clive, IA (about 3 hours north of KC). I got a 2007 EX-L 4WD for $27,996 + TTL.

Thanks to all your advise on this forum, I have an internet quote of $27,540 for 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. This is $6300 off MSRP. This came about in a weird way as the salesman told me the salesman listed on the AAA Member Pricing Program was no longer there. I emailed the AAA contact person and told them they needed to change their contact person. I got an email from the orig. sales person whom the other said was gone saying if he were gone he'd know since he was the owner! Do you think since I'm talking to the owner, that this is the best deal there is out there since it's $6300 off and the target per JFritsch is $5k-$6k off. Or, should I continue to get more quotes with intention of buying last week of the month? Any advice/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I'd love to get that price. Can you email me who you dealt with? jonsjunk@mchsi.com

Edmunds shows $31,945 as the list--minus $7,500 that is $24,445, which is $4,482 below what Edmunds shows as invoice ($28,927). Minus $6,000 (if I were getting one that didn't have the excessive mileage) it would be $25.945. I'd sure like to get that price, but that's a lot below invoice--is it really do-able? Or is that just at the end of the model year?

So far the prices I've been quoted (for ones without any significant mileage on them) are $27,283 (including destination), $27,926 (not including destination), and $27,522 (including destination), and all (I am assuming in two cases, it is stated in one case) not including any dealer-installed options. How does that sound?
  • gordonfreemangordonfreeman Member Posts: 14
The $6K is off MSRP, not Invoice. Also, this $6K is likely including the $2K dealer cash. Edmunds is listing the current Invoice for the EX-L AWD at $30,101. I think my starting point would be $2K under this ($28,101). I'm not sure which trim level you are looking at but the max I would pay is $2K below Invoice for whichever it is. Obviously try to get more off than this, but right now, that would be the absolute max I would pay if I needed a car right away. The dealers are still making money through holdback if they give you the $2K dealer cash applied to the Invoice price, not to mention the potential financing and car servicing in the future. Not sure if the dealer cash or financing offer will continue past April. Originally it was scheduled to end in February. From what I've seen on this site, people were getting more than $7K below MSRP last summer so that is definitely possible this summer, especially if when the '08 Pilots come out.

Right, my calculations were off MSRP. I just threw in how much below invoice that came out to be.

I'm looking at the EX-L 2WD, which Edmunds lists at $31.945 MSRP(not including destination).

Invoice including destination is $29,522, so the $27,283 I've been quoted is a little more than $2,000 below that.

Where did you find the info on the dealer cash, if I may ask? Everywhere I've looked on the internet says there is nothing on Pilots.

    Thanks!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
It doesn't appear that there are any major price drops the last 3 weeks or so. (look at the posts) Just the $300/mo price drops as the year wears on. For right now a good deal is 5500-6000 off. With a few above that. Last summer they went from 7000-8000 off.

I've seen several references to a $2000 dealer incentive that expires at the end of April, but have not been successful in finding any confirmation of this anywhere other than this message board. Can anyone give me a link?

    Thanks!
  • 07pilot4me07pilot4me Member Posts: 52
Honda won't advertize the dealer incentive. I've had a few dealers tell me verbally or confirmed the 2K incentive when i asked them directly.
  • 3brodrig3brodrig Member Posts: 11
I am also in the market for a 2WD EX-L. The lowest I have been quoted is 26,650 (including destination) which is ~$5900 off. You should be able to get even more off with 4K on the odometer. I saw that Cvg1 was quoted 27,500 for a 4WD, so there may be even more room to bargain with the 26,650. Just like jjf says, get a bunch of quotes and see who will work with you.
  • upsmanupsman Member Posts: 4
So if you take the .9 financing, does the dealer get the $2000 off the invoice price?
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Formally no (you get the 2000 thru the financing), but that is heresay. (theoretically the 2000 incentive is there but that isn't well advertised either) Just work the best purchase deal you can with 1 or 2 out of 10-20 dealers via email end of month and tell them you want to finance. See the best deal you can work out.

Gunn Honda in San Antonio has some good prices. Not sure if your price includes TTL, but Gunn's current price for a 07 EXL PILOT: $27,036 (before TTL).
  • cat319cat319 Member Posts: 2
25500 is drive out the lot, it include all the TTL and fee.
Dealer already take into account of 2000 cash rebate.
  • switzersswitzers Member Posts: 1
The dealer as I understand it gets $2000 only if it is a cash deal. They do not get this incentive I believe if you try to finance through them. For those wondering about Minnesota prices, I just purchased an EX-L 4WD with NAV for 30800. This was the best price I could find in the Twin Cities after shopping around several dealers for some time.
  • 3brodrig3brodrig Member Posts: 11
I have seen quotes for the 2WD LX for as low as 22,500 before TTL here in the Midwest. So assuming 8.5% sales tax in TX and misc. fees. You might be able to get them down another 400 to 500. My sister got an excellent deal on a 2007 CR-V at Allen Honda in College Station, so if you're willing to make the drive, it may be worth it.

This is the email quote I've gotten (Seattle, WA area):

$32,185 (MSRP 36,040) EXL AWD Navigation

This is with the 0.9% financing, and includes the $595 destination charge.

Do you think I can negotiate for lower (my target was 31,800)

First of all you should always buy at the end of the month and always get your quotes over the internet. I was told many times that you cannot get the same offer in the showroom that you get through email. Additionally the dealers get huge bonuses for meeting their monthly quota and they are willing "give away" a couple cars at the end of the month to make it up with the big pay out from the manufacturer. I have had sales people begging me to come down and buy on the last day of the month. I bought a 2007 4WD EX-L W/DVD RES for $29100 from Criswell Honda in Gaithersburg. Thats about $6400 of MSRP and they gave me the wheel locks and appearance package for FREE! Antrim Way Honda in PA was $30500. Landmark Honda gave me the best offer at $28400 but it came about in a way that made me feel shaky about them so I didn't take the offer. When they made the offer they said they were not making anything on the deal but it turned out they were quoting a 2WD. When I clarified that I wanted a 4WD they gave another "rock bottom" price. I told them that their offer wasn't low enough to make the long drive worth it and hung up. the salesperson called back 5 minutes later and said that I could have the 4WD for the $28400 price.
  • vncoffmanvncoffman Member Posts: 18
I agree about the showroom, based on recent experience. I went back to try to get the one with mileage that I had my eye on. At that time I had five internet quotes from other dealers, all starting out $27,---. (For an EX-L without nav or DVD) The showroom salesman said only a sales manager could give me a quote for the one with mileage on it, and there was no sales manager there (which struck me as unlikely, but anyway.....) I said, OK, give me a quote for a really new one, just so I can get a ballpark. He wrote down the MSRP and the invoice, and told me it would be somewhere between those two.....! I told him in that case I had quotes from other dealers thousands below the lowest price he was possibly offering me. He said goodbye have a nice day.....

I would like to know from my fellow forum members which of these models will have less depreciation ? I know EXL models are generally $1500 dollars more but i personally do not like leather but it may have a better resale value if i decide to sell in 2-3 years. thanks
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
All the Pilots and Ridgelines depreciate about $10000 from MSRP 1st year. The diff between the EX and EXL is sticker 2200. What kind of quotes you get on both I don't know though. You want about 5800-6500 off now. Last summer 7000-$8000 off was fairly common. Whether there will be a bigger shooting gallery this july-august with the 08 changes is anybody's guess.

I got a price of $30,500 for 2007 EXL 4WD Pilot with 0% financing on $15,000 only. Should I be getting a better price. Need a car now, can't really wait until the end of the month.

    2007 EX 4WD $26117+TTL, MSRP $31540
    2007 EX 4WD EXL $29196, MSRP $33840

Do you think there may be more room for negotiations ?

I just purchased a 2WD EX-L from Honda of Marysville, here are the details:

    Purchase Price: $26,675
    Doc Fee: $249.50
    Sales Tax: $1,750.09
    Title & Filing Fees: $15.50
    TOTAL OTD: $28,690.09

Hopefully this will be helpful for a few of you.

Just email 20-30 dealers with your requirements and choices on colors last week of the month. Tell them you are contacting 20 dealers and will buy before eom. About 12 will respond. Give your cell. When working down the top 2-3 dealers see if they can consecutively beat your best offer sans 500-1000. Work the callbacks (if any).

You can do better than that. If you dont mind, who is the dealer ?I am negotiating with another seattle dealer and they may have a better rate.

ask the dealer if he could give you 2K off instead of the 0.9 financing. or better yet mention the 2K off and see what he says, he might be able to reach your target $$$ and financing.

i walked to a dealership yesterday and was "stopped" at the front before i could get a hold of the internet dept. the guy says i could have the pilot for $500 over invoice, after i mentioned the $2K he says it doesn't work that way, i walked off laughing since i already had another dealer promise he would take $2K off invoice.

Want: Pilot EX 2WD or AWD (leaning towards AWD)
    PRICE: targeting $6K-$7K off MSRP

    anyone think this is doable??
  • losheeloshee Member Posts: 11
What rate are you able to get yours for?? I keep feeling like no one will drop it even a little.
  • losheeloshee Member Posts: 11
Are you in the Seattle area too? It seems like how much you can get off is pretty region dependent. You won't even get someone to look at you here if you offer 6K below invoice (ie, 30,000 for a 36,000 Pilot). I've been told they don't get the $2000 if they give financing also and I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Of course, the $2000 they get off of their other customers who do not use financing (and if they don't actually give those customers a $2000 discount)could help those who do use financing!
  • ousoonerdfwousoonerdfw Member Posts: 1
Includes D&H of $595, but not TT&L. This is the best offer I've received from about 10 dealerships in the DFW area. Do you think this is a good deal?
  • 07pilot4me07pilot4me Member Posts: 52
nope, i live in Sacramento. So it looks like the dealers are not budging eh, wonder if that changes near the end of the month or when gas hits all time high (paying 3.20 here in california). from what i hear end of the month they are more apt to give deals.

whats your timeframe on car purchase?? ours is now till around august. Good Luck and let me know if you find the right price

Congrats on your purchase. Hope you are enjoying it...

Couple of questions if you don't mind. Did you finance through Honda? And do you think you could of done better if waited until last week of month as other forum members have recommended?
  • 3brodrig3brodrig Member Posts: 11
    Hi CVG,

Thank you, my wife loves her new car.

We did not go through Honda, we actually went through CapitalOne as they were 20 basis points less than AHFC. The nice thing about 3rd party financing is that you walk in as a cash buyer so you don't have to deal with the financing people.

As far as waiting until the last week, I'm not sure I could have done much better. The lowest I could get locally in Cincy was 26,900 from Wyler and they didn't budge when I asked if they could match Marysville. One thing I think will change is that a lot of the other dealerships didn't want to go below 27,250, but as it nears the end of the month they may be willing to concede a little more profit to meet their goals.

If you're willing to make the drive, the guys at Marysville were excellent, I was in and out in 30 minutes. I'll probably go back to them for my next purchase.

    Happy hunting, best of luck.

Read my message 8800 and do that. The more the merrier. Get bids on the awd and 2wd. Honda's dealer locator makes this easy. Several people have posted 6300 off purchases and those are the ones who bothered to post. If you want 7000 off you may have to email 40 dealers to possibly get a chance of finding one that will drop his pants for that. Remember only 1 out of 8-12 dealers will be seriously behind on his sales targets for the month and you may need this many bids to find 1-3 eager beavers to work with.

Walking into the showroom without narrowing down the field from 20-30 to 1 or 2 over the telephone and getting a firm price with the sales manager (vin # options etc) is a fools game. There are too walk-ins who pay msrp or close to that for the floor people to work to get involved with a floor salesman.

    Good luck
