Well the current residual of 77% could be why, even though the interest is a little high. I read somewhere a dodge had a residual of about 46 %. So, who would pay MORE for a dodge ?

I purchased because you can't lease a car in TX

Unless the laws in Texas have changed in the last 18 months, you can lease in Texas. I Live in Seattle Wa, and am driving a 325i that I leased in Dallas in 03. :surprise:

I just got off the phone with BMW and heres what they offered me,

    325i Silver Manual
    Xenons
    Sports Package
    Heated Seats
    Navi

    $466/m with 10,000k miles 36 month lease
    Money factor 2.5
    Residual is 69%
    Msrp 35,400

due at signing $3139 in NY

    Is this a good deal?
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
Well, technically you can. But the personal property tax as well having to pay sales tax on the "FULL" amount usually make it not worthwhile. Unlike your neighbors in OR that pay NO sales tax.

What would be a good cash price on the following vehicle?

    2006 330xi,
    Titanium Silver/Black,
    Auto,
    Cold Weather,
    Premium Pack,
    Satellite prep.

I believe the titanium silver paint job carries a premium.

Sticker is 44,070. Invoice is 40,395 on both Edmunds and Kelly. The car is available at a suburban Chicago dealership.

    Thanks,

Drivethegreen -- I recently ordered a similarly priced setup in Richmond, VA (scheduled to arrive in port of Baltimore on 3/16).

    My order:
    2006 330xi
    gray metallic
    cold weather
    premium
    sport
    18" wheels

    MSRP/invoice: $44,220 / $40,480
    Paid: $42,325

I didn't think this was a super deal, but it was the best I could do talking with 3 dealers out here on the east coast for two weeks.

I've heard of folks in CA getting $500 or so over invoice, but dealers seem to be getting $1,500 over invoice out here. Additional advice -- watch the TT&L fees that are not gov't mandated -- some dealers were looking for "doc fees" of up to $800. Dealers are trying to make thier money in one place or the other, so I found the process less frustrating by negotiating a "walk out the door" price which included all taxes, fees, etc.

    Good luck.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
There's less incentive to give a good cash price. You'd actually be better served negotiating your best price and just getting financing (take whatever rate the dealer offers as they can bump their points and think they're getting a deal on the backend). After the deal closes, go pay off the car (make sure there's no pre-pay penalty ahead of signing).

Not sure why you'd put 44k (40k sale price, 10% ttl) into a vehicle that will be worth less than 40k the moment you drive away, but that's your perogative.

I bought a 325i that is in transit and will be coming on the 8th of March.

    Titanium metallic
    Automatic transmission
    Navigation
    Premium package
Satellite radio prep (all cars seems to come with it)

and agreed at a price of $36,165+fees, which is $1000 over invoice.
I paid a $2000 non-refundable partial payment, and will be paying the total amount in cash upon delivery

I was wondering what the dealer means by "fees".
What fees are waivable or negotiable, and what are must pay's?
I live in SoCal. What would be a reasonable total amount that I will pay for this car?
I see that a lot of people are buying it at $500 over invoice. Since I already agreed at a set price, I was wondering if I could get the dealer to absorb some fee cost..

Also, would it be better to talk to the dealer about this before the car arrives, or should I wait till they call me that the car arrived?

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  • richmondmomrichmondmom Member Posts: 13
Not sure why the dealer would be willing to negotiate anything considering he's got your $2k already -- you may be facing some "doc fees" of several hundred bucks, or he may try to take you for a ride and charge you a lot more. Perhaps a good approach would be to talk with some other dealers in your area to find out what's customary so you have some more information when you are finally presented with a bill form your dealer?

I made sure I had a complete bill of sale before I ordered the car...but I also just gave the dealer my Amex number for a $500 *totally refundable* deposit (and he hasn't charged my card still).
  • richmondmomrichmondmom Member Posts: 13
I've heard this advice before on getting dealer financing and then paying off...it's compelling. Does anyone know exactly how dealers compute "profit"? Does the franchise (and/or salesman) truly get treated the same for giving up on the price to make money on purchase financing?

Also, I can't let the comment go about why someone would pay 44k for something that will be "worth less than 40k the moment you drive away". Isn't the answer obvious (and true of all transactions in a free market)? -- because it's worth more to me than it is to the market. I'd rather have the depreciating car than $44k.

    Ms. Mom,

I believe you have struck at the heart of the matter. As a figure of speech I may say that I "invested" in some new, upscale home entertainment equipment when in fact I do not literally mean that I "invested" in it, I simply bought it.

I put a car in the same category. While I share the common desire not to overpay, I could never rationalize the cars I buy as an investment. I earn income, invest as much as I need to and spend enough to enjoy the bounty this great country provides. Buying a car is included in the spending column.

    Beautiful Lady

I recently posted a message on a 330xi with an MSRP of $44,070 and invoice of $40,395. The best quote to date after looking at three Chicago area dealerships is $42,850 and free mats (my choice, winter or summer). The only fees not included on that best price is a $57 document fee and a $105 license transfer fee. In addition to the cash price and fees I have to pay 6.75% sales tax.

Prior to my decision to buy a 330XI I looked at a Lexus IS 350 and a few Infiniti models. They both carried dealer prep and delivery fees that were not apparent until I asked about them. They ranged from $700 to almost $1000.

    he said about $420-480
    about $3200-3800 due at signing

    All I really want is
    nonmetallic
    leatherette
    bluetooth

I don't have March lease info available yet but how long do you plan on keeping the car? You pay $495 bank fee up front and $250 disposition fee when you return the car. You can lease 3 yrs 10k which should be less than $500 a month.
  • mattr82mattr82 Member Posts: 41
It was a buy. I drive far too much to lease :). Going to be paying cash as there is no 2.9% for 60 month financing being offered in New Jersey.

    I'm looking at a 330i w/:

    Metallic paint
    Prem package
    Fold down seats
    Steptronic

In the DC metro area. Invoice is $38,250 (incl. $695 destination). What should I expect to pay over invoice, what other fees should I expect to pay and are these negotiable?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would highly recommend the internet sales department at Pasport BMW in Suitland, MD. I recently ordered a 330i w/ nav, sport package, comfort access, and satellite radio. Paid about $1200-1500 over invoice, got him down to base lease rate and acq fee of $750. I know he made a little on the deal, but was very easy to work with and did everything over the internet. All I did was walk in, pick out the color and sign the deal. Was done in 30 mins. It was very enjoyable. I

    Fees above invoice:
Acq fee - base is $695, dealer can markup as much as $200
    tags - $100
Taxes - I rolled them in, but depends on which state you live in.

Thanks for the info - very helpful. Is there a particular individual you worked with there? Also, what color did you get and how do you like the much-maligned idrive? I am debating b/n the black metallic and the graphite (grey) metallic.

I plan to get a 2006 3.25i, stick shift, silver metallic paint, power front seats, satellite radio prep.

The MSRP for this in Dallas is $33,140. The invoice is $30,400. I plan to offer $31K and pay only tax on top of this. Is this a good deal? :confuse:

There are 3 BMW dealers that I know in Dallas: Classic BMW, BMW of Dallas and AutoBahn in Forth Worth. Can you suggest another one or which of these are known to give good deals?

    Many thanks for the info...
  • mattr82mattr82 Member Posts: 41
That would be a great deal for Texas, especially due to the fact that Doc fee is usually between $100-200. Also tack on motor vehicle fees, I don't know how much they charge in Texas. I have read that Texas dealers are very unnegotiable, so you might want to broaden your dealership selection to further areas in order to achieve a better deal.

    Good luck,

    Bought a 2006 325i beginning of Feb
    sonoran metallic
    steptronic
    premium package
    sat prep
    Park distance contol
    MSRP:36670
    Invoice:33948
Paid :34265 and dealer included factory 6 cd changer, window tint and factory floor mats (doc fee included in this price)
I think it was a good deal....let me know what you think?
  • mattr82mattr82 Member Posts: 41
Congrats on that price, especially with the options included. Price is almost too good to be true (317 over invoice).

  • skd1skd1 Member Posts: 3
Thought I'd let y'all know what I negotiated.

'06 BWM 330i with mystic blue metallic
    Sports package
    Comfort access
    Sat radio prep
    Carpets
    Wheel locks

Price: $38,300 including ad and doc fees, not including tax and tag. MSRP is around $40,120 and invoice is around $36,800. So I'm basically paying $1,500 over invoice and $1,800 under MSRP.

I used Performance BMW in Chapel Hill, NC. Could have probably saved a couple hundred more by going to Charlotte or one of the Triad dealerships but once you factor in the travel hassle it wasn't worth it since I live in Chapel Hill.

Let me know what you think of the deal and I hope this help in your car hunting...

    Howdy all..

Could anyone be so kind as to provide me with the latest residual and money factor figures for 10/12K lease for either 24/36 months?

I am looking at a 330i sedan (2006 of course).

    Thanks :shades:
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
    No specials for March :(

if you were to lease a 2006 330i for 24 months the Base MF is .00220 and residual is 73% and 74% respectively for 10k and 12k miles.

    DL
  • treknjtreknj Member Posts: 8
The current residual for 330i is 64% for 12K a year, 63% for 12K a year and 62% for 15K a year. That is for 36 months. Don't know about 24. 330xi is either 2 or 3% lower across the board.

The base money factor for 330i (but NOT 330xi) 0.00195. You probably won't get the base money factor but 0.00215 or even 0.00205 is doable - at least here in NJ.
  • calif65gmcalif65gm Member Posts: 75
That's a great deal you got, but I bet the dealer is glad to be making any kind of money on that car and getting rid of it.

It it off the lot or order? If it's off-the-lot, I wonder how long it's been sitting in inventory.
  • jccai1jccai1 Member Posts: 113
You certainly can lease cars in TX. I just leased one last week. The only down side to leasing in TX is that you have to pay the sales tax on the entire cap cost, not just the depreciation portion. Also in certain counties/cities, you have to pay an annual property tax on a leased car.
  • jccai1jccai1 Member Posts: 113
I was quoted $1000 off MSRP on a 325i with step, xenon, sport & leather. The three dealerships are about the same. You'll probably have to go outside of DFW to get deeper discounts.
  • skd1skd1 Member Posts: 3
If your experience mirrors mine your first challenge i going to be finding a car with a manual transmission. Among the five dealerships in NC I contacted, they only had 5 325i or 330i with stick. They looked up upcoming shipments and said there were only 45 cars with sticks coming in for the entire US!

Best thing to do is order a car. Then you can get the specific color and options you want and you would probably get the car for less because the dealer isn't incurring any risk and cost of a car sitting on the lot when it arrives. Sure, you have to be a little more patient but apparently it's not that bad. I put my order in yesterday afternoon and I got an email this morning telling me that the car has already gone into production. BMW provided me with a tracking number so that I can monitor the production progress. The car is scheduled to arrive in early April. Not a bad tradeoff to get the exact car you want at a lower price.

    Good luck.

Ow! The idea of paying tax on the whole cap cost is disturbing. In CA you pay for only the portion you're using.

Having recently moved from NY to NJ, I found that out in November when I picked up my 06x 330xi that I was no longer paying tax on the depreciation of the vehicle but on the aggregate sum of the payments over the course of the lease....another way to hose you!

Greetings all, I just left deposit for 2006 330i with premium package, heated front seats, metallic paint (monaco blue), automatic, tints and a 6 yr, 100k mile warranty, plus the remaining 3.5 years of the free maintenance. The car has 4,287 miles and has supposedly been used only by the dealership. MSRP $42,350 and we are currently at $36,800. Saw a 330i with more miles and similar configuration for 39K on the BMW website. It seems as if i am getting a good deal, BUT, am I really getting a good deal? what do the experts say? That looks like a good price for a slightly used CPO model..

If you are looking to bump them, but they won't move on price, ask them to extend the factory maintenance to 6yr/100K as well... That runs around $1000..

That will increase the value of your car, even if you decide to sell it before the warranty is up..

Thanks kyfdx! They were asking 37K even, I got them to come down $500 and throw in the window tints for $300 instead of the $495 price. Thus far I am very happy with the smoothness of the interactions. I will ask about the 6/100 factory warranty.

Greetings, I have been looking for a 325xi recently and I went to the Prestige BMW in New Jersey. After speaking to one of the sales representatives and bargaining a bit. I was able to get him to $35,500 when his msrp with included options was $38,125. This price is for the color artic, Automatic, and premium package. Is this a good deal worth going for? Or can I possibly get him lower a little bit?
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
My monthly lease payment average over 24 payments is $431. I paid the first installment, $45 for doc fees, about $20 in other fees and $270 to California for licensing/title. No other dough out of pocket.

The dealership refused to accept MSDs on the deal - only they finally confirmed that today. This could have been a deal breaker but I decided to suck it up. I'm giving them an extra $700 over the course of the lease and probably seals the fact my next ED in 2008 will be with a different dealership. I don't like getting jerked around, but with my plane ticket purchased I'm in a bad situation.

My salesmen became ill and thus I've been working with a new person on my ED. Bummer all the way around.

Kyfdx, do you know if dealers must allow buyers to use MSDs? This doesn't kill my deal but it does make me a little dissatisfied.

They will see me in 2008 and have a chance to right their wrongs in writing before the car is officially ordered. Considering my sister is ordering a convertible via ED in 08 also, they have have lost two deals in their effort to secure another $700 right now. Shortsighted in the extreme...

I went to my local dealer in Feb and ordered a 325 convertible, not realizing that there were some great fiancing rates going on..

Well, it has been 3-4 weeks and yesterday he called me up saying that the car had been produced but with the WRONG EXTERIOR COLOR!!! I had ordered silver and he said that the car had been made with a black exterior..He said that the car would have to be made again..

He in fact told me that this had never happened before...Am I to believe all this BS??!!

When I told him that I wanted the same finance rates as was in effect in Feb, he replied he didnt know if it could be done..

I ordered the car in Feb and I didnt screw up the order..
Is this guy screwing with me??
