Does anyone know for sure when the 4th door and hard tonneau cover will be available for the 2000 Silverados? I just ordered a 2000 Silverado LS 4 FWD Extended Cab Short Bed for $150 over dealer invoice. Of course it will be awhile before I get it.
  • lutdaddylutdaddy Member Posts: 10
I heard that the fourth door would be standard on all 2000's produced after Feb. 1st, 2000. It is available as an option now (I'm fairly sure) but you have to order and there's no guarantee you'll get it (what a deal!). I think they only have one line with fourth door production capabilities. Good luck!

My 2000 LT came with an alarm and some type of fuel shut off capability, for when the vehicle is started without the key. Does anyone know if this is actually a deterrent, or if the thieves can still get it. Do you all obsess about where you park it like I do?

Some more info, direct from the mouths of dealers....
4th door looks to be available mid model year...delars in upstate ny expect it around spring time.

The hard FOLDING tonneau cover, the one pictured in the 2000 model year brochure in the accessories area, is $677 plus install. Seems steep to me...anyone have a good non-OEM one in place?

Does anyone know of a dealership in California where I can purchase a 1500 Extended Cab 2WD Shortbed for close to invoice???
  • lutdaddylutdaddy Member Posts: 10
The salesman where I bought my truck said that the "GMS=" section on the invoice is the GM employee retired discounted price. It was actually invoice minus holdback and advertising. True dealer cost. Is this true?

Just got my 2000 Extra Cab LS from #1 Leasing and Sales in Huntington Beach. I got a package which included:
Fog Lamps, Rear window defogger, defrosting side mirrors, am/fm/cd/cassette, bucket seats, 5.3 automatic, tow package (most luxuries I could have done without)
My price was $25,300 plus tax. I shopped around and nobody could beat this price. I didn't have to negotiate, simply walked in and signed the paperwork. I was gone in less than 30 minutes. By far the best car experience I have ever had.

I read a lot of complaints regarding the shaking at certain speeds. Not in my truck and I have 3 friends that have 99's and they have not had any problems, period. This truck drives like a cadillac compared to the '96 Toyota Tacoma I previously had. This is my first Chevy and I am sold!

I'm guessing your boat and trailer will weigh about 3500#. I presently pull a 3000# trailer with my '85 Silverado 5.0 engine w/165hp. I have a 3spd. manual w/granny gear, and a 2.43 rear end. I'ts a real dog. But it will get up to 75 mph in a few min. and cruise just fine. Locking rear end is a must. Ramps are slippery and the locker makes the difference. I just placed an order for a 1500 2WD 5.3L 3.73 Locker differential. I almost got the 3.43, but I heard the gas mileage is the same. So I went for the extra zip.
  • moudry1moudry1 Member Posts: 61
I had been pulling 5500# with a 98'chevy 2wd 5.7 liter with a 3.73 locking rear for more than a year.It did the job well with the exception of steep grades. The new 5.3 has more power than the 5.7 did and should pull that boat just fine. For pulling any load i don't think it would be wise to go with any less than the 3.73 rear.As far as the 4wd i had no troubles untill i attempted a gravel grade on one of our vacations. One moment everything was fine and the next i was on the phone to a tow truck. It was a horrible experiance as i almost wiped out the truck and trailer. After that i decided that a 4x4 was necessary and i also wanted a little more capacity. We recently purchased a 00'2500 silverado,LT,4x4,4.10 rear, to suit our needs. A rear locker may be all that you need ,but look at all the situations you will be in and remember it's better to have it and not use it than to need it and not have it.I worked on charter fishing boats for many years and i saw many people have a lot of trouble on the boat ramps with 2wd when the ramp was slick at low tides.I was happy with my last truck but am much happier with the new one.The 6.0 liter is truly awesome and this truck drives like a dream, much better than the 1/2 ton.Drive both the 1/2 ton with the 5.3 and the 3/4 ton with the 6.0 to see what you think. Also if you "think" you need a 4wd you probably do.

Just purchased '00 LT 4x4 XCAB, 5300 Z71, 400 over invoice. Wheel flares came from factory, pewter, matching truck . Look great! I want to protect lower body with mud flaps, anyone been able to have both ? Also looking for rain covers for window openings, and front bug deflector. Will get bed mat, have one on a '85 K1500 plow/farm truck, and the bed is the best looking body part of the truck!

California is a big place, what area are you in? Got mine at Anderson Chevrolet in Los Gatos for $500 over on the phone, no hassle. Contact is Jerri Hall, the Internet Manager.

Check response #194. After waiting 2 months after placing $500 deposit to order, w/order not placed, supposedly because anti-lock rear end parts were unavailable, I posted nastygram @ Chevrolet site-Customer Service. 2 days later, I got a call from Fleet Dealer w/Order# & Build date of wk.-9/27. Build date has been changed to mid-October, but am making some progress. Probably Dealer loses allocation & opportunity to make more $$ than my $500 over Invoice deal-may have been holding Order back. Good luck!

I just bought a new 2000 Pewter Silverado LT Ext Cab Shortbed 4x4. I got the following additional options:

    Z71 Off-road package
    265/75 WOL tires
    Heavy-duty trailering package
    Locking rear differential (3.73 axle)

I purchased this from Hendrix Chevrolet in Cary, NC. It did take some haggling to get down to $350 over invoice. I have an additional $900 in rebates to bring the final cost to $550 below invoice.

I've got about 250 miles on it - no vibration, shaking, or noise problems. It drives very nicely on the road and easily handled going up into the woods on the back half of my land without any problems (using 4wd Lo).

Thank you for the responses. I live in San Diego and have found a local dealer who said he can sell me a 2000 1500 LS 2WD for 500 over invoice, with no extra charges, i.e. advertising fee etc... Although the dealership I talked to does not have the exact colors/options I am looking for on their lot, they said they can easily do a dealer trade.

This evening the dealership told me they located 3 vehicles in San Diego, but will need to check in the morning to see if they are still available.

From what I have read on this board, 500 over invoice without having to special order seems like a good price.

Does anybody else have any experience purchasing a 99 or 00 truck from a San Diego Dealership?

wanted to share my full deal. Ordered in Abilene, TX in August. Build date was to be October 4. Actual build date was September 28. Recieved here from factory in Fort Wayne, IN Oct. 7. This is not just another new vehicle. You will love your's. My deal was at invoice with a chevy polo shirt and mud guards (with bow tie) thrown in. The dealer took it to the after market folks for bed caps, rails and wheel well trim at my expense. The trim is about two inches wide, is new for this body and looks very good, especially on the blue.

I'm still finding extras like the thermometer in the mirror with the compass (new for 00.) The radio stays on until the door is opened, even with key removed. There is an engine hour meter. Plus many other good things.

I am very pleased and hope everyone elst is too.

Well, after two weeks of reading the posts here I made up my mind (between Ford and Chevy)and bought a 2000 1500 LS 4X4 Extended Cab in Medium Gray and Graphite custom cloth. Bought it yesterday right off the dealer's lot with 6 miles on it. It came in within the last week as it was not there two weeks ago. Options:
    5300 V8
    Auto transmission
    Autotrac transfer case
Reclining buckets with each side power seats
    Locking differential
    265 tires--QGD (Firestone)
    Z71
    Trailer towing package
    Compass and outside temp.
    Aluminum wheels

I paid $200.00 over invoice and found there are many trucks available in my state (Missouri) to choose from. Several dealers offered me similar deals.

This is a really nice truck... and after putting on over 400 miles just today I have found no squeaks or vibrations at any speed. There is no "dent" at the rear latch. The only thing I heard was a soft whistle in the driver's side rear window. It doesn't seem to be sealing completely.
It is however, completely water tight. Anyone else heard any wind noise? It only happens at speeds over 60.

I also have a question on tire pressure. The door panel recommends to not inflate over 35 pounds, yet it came from the factory with 45 pounds per tire. This seems light for this large of a tire.
    Any thoughts?

By the way, this rig was made in Canada and I am impressed with the overall quality. The paint job is absoultely beautiful without even much orange peel. Enough of my rambling...just wanted to share.

I had a locking differential and required towing out of a launch once. Both wheels were on slipery surface. My next truck had both 4x and the locking differential. Last month, using only the normal L/D, they again both slipped, but this time I had a 4X to fall back upon, and got out very easily. This also really straightens out a vehicle on washboard roads, whereas the locking differential sort of pushes the rear end to one side. I recommend the 4X.

There is a saying in the new car business. Put a nickel in it and roll it!
You can usually get $500.00 over invoice from any dealer that has a decent fleet sales program.
The trick is in understanding what the true dealer invoice is. There are a lot of sites out there that will explain this and even give you the opportunity to price one out yourself, including elsewhere on this site.

I got a 2000 (picked it up Jul 12)2500 LT 2WD S/B with every possible option avaiable (6.0L; 4.10Diff.; Tow Pkg; etc.). It's my fourth Chevy Truck and I love it better than my 97 I just sold (2500 less than I paid for it).

    Good Luck!

One of the local Utah dealers web sites list MSRP and Invoice for his trucks. The invoice prices are right once I add 1% of (MSRP-Destination) to the invoice prices found on the web. Is this fee a real advertising fee or just another way to make more money? When I negotiate over dealer cost do I include this fee?

Thanks for any info or experiences.

    >>My guy in So Cal is a GM owned no haggle dealer.
$500 over invoice for Sams club, Costco, AAA, who
ever, same deal. Same goes for the four doors,
which is a good deal, cuz most guys can make a
killing on these for the first coupla months.
Dealers are doing loss leaders now, due to
inventory on the lot over three months old. I.E.
    one has a z71 4x4 MSRP of $31k going for $4K under
    MSRP.
Cant find green trucks out here. Dealers say
nobody bought them last year, so they wont order
them this year. I have a green boat, so at least I
will have an uncommon color. I am going to order
my four door tonite. Dealer says he has an
allocation, I had to prod him to find that out.
Hopefully I am early enuff to customize
    it.Thanks,scott.<<

My dealer added $131 for advertising fee, upped destination chg. to $665, M30 4speed auto went up to $941 from $856 and had invoice for a Y2K four door version @ $19,845 (up $288, the cost of the fourth door) but noted the fouth door cost could be added later. Any advise? Scott

You mentioned ordering your truck with the 4th door. Dealers around here say they can't order them yet, however, they do have some dealer allocations coming in but they are all 2wd. How long were you told it would take to get the truck?

    Scott,

I am also in SoCal looking to get a 4rth door 2000. What dealer are you working with that is a no haggle dealer?

The fleet departments at three different dealerships in San Diego have told me they can sell me a 00 1500 LS Extra Cab 2WD for 500.00 over invoice but have to charge me 250-270 extra for advertising. They claim the manufacturer is charging this amount to the dealerships. I am a bit confused because one dealership has an advertising fee of 259.18 and another wants to charge me 270.48. I am suspicious because why would the manufacturer charge different amounts to dealerships in the same area for co-op advertising.

Should I hold out until one of the dealerships comes forward and offers 500.00 over invoice, no advertising fee?

I bought my Roanoke, Virginia truck from Pinkerton Chevrolet after walking out of Burglund. Pat Gobble at Pinkerton gave me $49 over invoice with only a $99 processing fee. Shelor's and Burglund had $150 and $200 fees. Pat got the truck ready in a matter of minutes and they processed the paperwork quickly. I don't know how anyone could say a Ford is better. Most of the responses in this section say they paid only 300 or so over invoice. That's meaningless if the invoice you've seen is not what the dealer actually paid. Why not list the bottom line number and stop all of the guessing?
  • graczgracz Member Posts: 21
I don't want to speak for everyone, but who really
would know what actual invoice is for the dealer
except for the dealers themselves? With that being said I think that most of us are base-ing are deals with respect to what Edmunds and KBB consider to be the invoice price, its a bases to
compare our prices with each other, and I consider
it to be a valuable tool. Each dealership bottom
line is different depending on sales and inventory

(They are not going to part with this information it's where the majority of there profit is attained!) Good luck if you think you will find out what the true bottom line is.

I will continue to use these post and the information contained in Edmund and KBB to my
advantage when purchasing vehicles - I don't see
it all as a matter of guessing - I see it as taking advantage with what is available.

    Thanks,
  • jimmcdjimmcd Member Posts: 16
Good reply Graze. Dukhuntr, invoice prices are somewhat valid as I found out while shopping. I let the sales people tell me what the invoice was and the four I dealt with presented the same as Edmund's and KBB etc.

I do not think dealers know their exact cost until the end of the corporate year when incentives are issued based on overall performance. We can only recognize charges like advertising fees, etc. as extras that are best left for others to pay if we can avoid them.

Just got back from a local dealership and came 200 dollars away from buying a Z71 Ext. cab 2000 Silverado. This truck was beautiful, white with black wheel flares and graphite interior. The truck is loaded with a MSRP of $31874. I had a copy of a printout with the same MSRP and options and I knew what the invoice was. The dealer looked at it and agreed. Now here's the rub. The truck had 285 miles on it when I test drove it. It was a dealer trade. I offered 100 over invoice and mentioned that the truck had nearly 300 miles on it. The lowest they would go is $800 over invoice. This is after I offered $600 over invoice as my final offer. What do you think, was I wise to walk away from a truck with nearly 300 miles on it for $800 over invoice?
  • hillrwhillrw Member Posts: 11
Whether it is a good deal or not seems to depend on where you live. My guess... yes walking away was in your best interest.

I think the best strategy is to let dealers bid on your business. Try the gmbuypower web site to find dealers in your area. Send them messages on what you want and ask for their best deal. I found dealers who were very proud of their new trucks (would not go below $1000 or so over invoice) and others who were more reasonable. Use the computer (or the fax machine) to get their "bids" and let them know you are shopping around for the best deal. All dealerships can order to your specifications or dealer trade for the truck that you want. The salesman that you talk to on a walk in basis is not likely to give you a better deal than the internet side of the business.

My two cents. I ordered my truck for $100 over invoice plus 1% advertising fee. When the truck came in (10/25/99) the invoice was higher, so I actually bought it under invoice (not considering the advertising! Very pleased with my deal, but it took some work.

I ordered a 00 Ls 4X4 LB Reg Cab for $40.00 over invoice plus $100 advertising. I couldn't get any dealership to go below, or at invoice (based on edmunds or others posted invoice price). Build date/week is Nov. 13-20. I had to fight for this deal, their first offer was at their invoice at $600.00 more??!! I don't know what they were quoting from!

    Shannon -
where are you located? and do you have allocations for 4th door yet? i'm in columbia, sc and the best my local dealer will do for right now is $500 over invoice, but he says there's a constraint on 4th door ordering until gm moves all the 3-doors they have. (why offer a 4th door which most people want when you still have many 3-doors left to sell - makes good sense, but is it true?)

Just order a 2000 Silverado LS 2WD ext cab. Added deep tinted windows, fog lamps, tow hooks, 2-tone paint, 235-16 WOL tires, Aluminum wheels. $24,000. That is about 1.5% over invoice as best as I can tell. Notice if you will that for the 2000 with 3rd door, the top MSRP at the top of the sticker is 22,351. The MSRP for the 4th door I ordered is 22,681. This $330 difference is exactly what Edmunds says is the MSRP price for the 4th door. Copy of information Dealer gave me shows 4th door is NC (no charge). Looks like they are just adding it to the cost of the truck and then tell you they are not going to charge you for it. Be ware. Thanks for all the great comments. I can hardly wait for mine to get here.

I am going to buy a Silverado within the next two weeks and am looking for a dealer in the Phoenix area that would take me to the cleaners on the price of a 1999 or 2000 4x4. I am looking at 5.3L ext cab with tow package and auto trans.
Any suggestions as to what dealer I can use, and what amount I should expect to pay.
