I ordered my 2000 Silverado LT, 4dr, 4wd, short bed, Z71 on 1/25/00 for Edmund's invoice + $650 delivery + $200 profit? + $85 doc fee, plus tax, tag, title (no GM advertisement fee). This order was confirmed by fax before I went to the dealer (old, large Atlanta Area dealer) It was not Bill Heard or any of his companies, since they are asking a premium for the hot new 4th door. If any of you are interested I will give you the dealers name.

Comments after one day:
Stereo is incredible, very quiet ride with no road noise as long as all doors are securly shut. Ride control suspension works great...it really smooths out the bumps in the road. Zero problems, Zero defects. No vibration at any speed. Better than I expected...There are going to be a lot of happy truck owners out there.
Ryan
P.S. If they change mine to a 4 door no problem but if any more delays I'm gonna go postal. LOL
P.S.S. Do you know what it's like to be down to the bone with fingernail biting??????????????
Ray T.
Relax man they are only taking orders now that are 4 door. 3 doors will be phased out with whats in the computer.
Ryan
coupons are only for current chevy owners, but, if the dealerships will honor the bonus for you
they can, even if you don't have the coupon. But I don't really think they will give anymore monies off if you are down to 2% over invoice, but
I will try it anyway. I'll keep you posted!
the dealership you are buying from?

Have a nice day, everyone......
Roger.
The compartment in the fold-down console on a 40/20/40 seat is designed to hold cassettes and not CDs...this is strange since the CD player is standard in an LS with bench seats. Also, for 3 & 4 door models check the rubber seals around the rear doors (when closed) to make sure they have been installed properly and are flush all around.
So, far the truck has surpassed all of my expectations.
wasnt a memo in the computer where u order it only
accepts 4 door no 3 door option or even selection.
--------------------
hmmm..per this note following, where you said they got a notice..not that it wasn't a selection (Chevy says it should still be a selection..think they are getting tired of hearing from me, since I can't seem to give them actual dealers names):

They have already stopped making 3 door trucks ALL
4 doors since the weel ok Jan 17th. 2 Dealers
told me they got notice of this already
----------------------
Can you give me the dealers names who got this notice? Chevy is interested..and they tell me there were no notes, so I would like to follow up on this, as I would prefer a 4 door, but even though I have no build date, they say I'm getting a three door. I want to persue this.

After all the smoke had cleared, total cost (incl. Sales tax, T&T,etc..) was $25,000. Dealer stuck to his guns about advertising ($250), but I did too. Told him I REFUSE to pay since his holdback (3% of MSRP) is actually about 3.4% of invoice cost. Plus the dealer was charging $249 processing fee. I was walking out the door when the salesperson stopped me and asked what it would take. I countered by saying that if the dealer HAD to show advertising, then I wanted vehicle at invoice...result? SOLD!!!
Considering they were making 3.4% of invoice the minute it rolled onto their lot, I got away with $500 over invoice. Not the best deal, but a GOOD one. Other dealers in Virginia were being ridiculous. Just hold to your guns and eventually a dealer will work with you. Go into the dealer with all the facts memorized and LET THEM KNOW IT. That sticker price is for the uneducated. Amazing, the salesperson told me that 60-70% of customers buy at Sticker. What a waste!!!
Got a TPW of 2/21, so I expect the truck near the end of March being the pessimist that I am.
Are you sure tires are 70 series & not 75 series?
$500 over is not bad, I had a dealer who wouldn't even talk to me for anything under $1000 because the truck is a hot seller! He didn't get my business either. See my Post #442 on this topic for my truck info.
Ray T.
That was a 2WD, 1500. Sorry that I left that out. I just looked at the dealer order form and it lists the tires as (P255/70R16). However, depending on what web site you choose, it sometimes lists the tires as 75R16 instead of 70R16. Dealer told me the 70R16 was correct, but I'll believe it when I see it. And speaking of believe it when I see it, just called Chevrolet and they have my Order#, but now say that a TPW date has not been assigned. Dealer called me on the 19th and told me TPW was 2/21/00. I tend to believe Chevrolet since they looked up the order number and gave me the data. But, again,I'm not sure who to believe. I guess it was silly of me to think I could order it on the 14th and get it built 5 weeks later. Oh well, will wait it out like the rest of those who ordered a couple months before me. I was hoping to have it built in Canada (I heard that minimal problems occur as a result of Canadian plant), but Chevrolet also said a plant has not been assigned. I read where the U.S. Army ordered 50,000 Silverados in January, and the dealer told me that Chevrolet would probably dedicate the East Michigan plant to that order. I was told to call back in a week or so for updated info on my order. I'll just read the comments like the rest and be thankful for the useful information I have received. Like I said, it's not the best deal I've seen ($500 over invoice), but I didn't leave the dealer feeling like I donated half my blood!!!! I actually had fun during the negotiations, especially armed with all the pricing information and options. The salesperson couldn't try to outslick me too much, although I still believe their profit is higher than Holdback +$$ over invoice.
It's also a shortbox...sorry.
2500's. I apologize
Ryan
Tried to add UPO CD/Cassette combo to my order today but there is a 4 day cutoff after placing order to make changes as I believe another post had mentioned somewhere. Oh well after market it will be.

Have a nice day....

I went with a friend (she is looking at a used car). I showed her a Silverado similar to what I'm getting, but said this one is a three door. My friend said I think your wrong. Much to my total surprise, it was a four door Silverado!!!
A brand new '00 X/C with all the options that I have ordered! MAN, was I stunned! The LT model with the 5.3, locking rear axle, trailer pkg, Z71 off road pkg, P265 WOL Tires.
I was checking out the rear doors, you really have to shut them hard to close them. Most likely due to being new!
I was most impressed with the quality of the workmanship. The interior panels looked very solid. The truck was built in WI.
I've posted here in the past but mostly I just like to read. Anyway here's what I got: 2000 GMC Sierra SLT 1500, 5.3L 3.73 Locker, Leather,Tinted windows, Best Stereo, Better Air filter etc. Sportside. How is it .....hmmmmm PERFECT!!! I love her, she the most beautiful thing I've ever owned. I ordered on Oct. 4 so it was a long wait but I really wanted a four door. Hated to do it but with the 12 miles that were on the od I took her up to 78 mph using the cruise 1 mph at a time. This truck is absoulutly SOLID with not even the slightest hint of shimmy or shake or vibration. Only small annoyance I've found is the drivers seatback has about a 1/2", feels like spring loaded, give. It will kinda push forward when I'm stopping. Then lean back when I accelarate. Any one else experience this. BTW the passangers seat is tight. These are the full feature captains. It sure is gonna be hard to keep this puppy in the low to mid 50's for 500 miles or so. You can just feel this baby wanting to roar. Paid $25770 using GMO and then took another $500 of with the loyalty coupon. Built on 1/13/00 delivered on 1/28/00 drove home today. Not positive were it was built as the order sheet said Wentzville and the window sticker said Oshawa, Canada.
other improvements on the 4dr truck?
Im leaning towards saving $1000 to buy a 3dr
truck off the lot now rather than ordering
a 4dr.
If I know of every option I want, is there a way
I can find all dealers in PA that have the exact
truck I am looking for?
I know the dealers can find this out for me but I
doubt they'd be willing to help.
I think Id have the best chance to get a good price if I go to the dealer that has the truck
I want on thier lot.
Thanks
Dave
Click on sear dealer lots pick the model and then put in your zip code itll bring up i think 6 dealers in your area. Then you can see whats on their lots and see the sticker price with the exact options on that truck. If that doesnt work try zip codes which are a little furthur away. Im sure u can find the exact truck you want. Its a nice site. Hope this works

Thanks Ryan, for this site. Most of you know our original dealer, uped the price on our truck when it came in (with a contract), and told us he could sell it 10 times over, if we weren't willing to pay the advertising costs, they decided to ad on after the fact..and that he had it sold the second we decided to not pay the new price. We reordered through a more honest dealer. By going to this site you gave and doing a search, we see (if this is up to date), that in fact, they still have the truck on the lot (we had the VIN number). Doesn't pay, to not be honest.

I have one question for any of you. Did anyone one use "Auto-by-Tel"?
person. He'll know exactly what your doing and
hopefully give you a really good deal as my
salesman did. Also as fast as he did. We agreed
on a price in 15 minutes. Cool huh?
Gary
I 'm sure those looking would need to know this info, right?

under my profile. The dealership is in Colorado
though....I saw you were from New York. If you
want his phone number let me know.
Gary
I already have a truck ordered & scheduled for TPW 2/7. Topic 555 Post 442 covers what I'm getting.
Thanks

1. Is it best to talk to the dealership in person, on the phone or fax them a copy of what you would like to order and wait for the replys to come in.
2. What if you have a trade in, when should you work that deal? Does the dealership still offer as good of deal?
3. Is 8-12 weeks a good time frame to figure for delievery...I will order about September.
Any additional help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks

$24,085 plus tax.... list was just under $27,000.
The bad news is I ordered on October 29, 1999. I have not yet received my truck. Build date was week of 01/17/2000. Hoping for delivery today or tomorrow.
Make sure you are not dealing with a new salesperson. Try to always work with the sales manager.
My suggestion is to call around to several dealers around you. When you call, ask to speak to the sales manager. The treatment you get on the phone will help you determine how they may treat you later in the process.
Beware.... I had one dealer tell me they would sell me a truck for 2 1/2 % over invoice. I had already done my homework and knew invoice cost. When they gave me the paper work, it was about 5 % over cost. When I asked why, they said they are quoting 2 1/2 % over, but then add all of there other fees on top. Not the way I want to do business.
This process can take a while. Take your time and you will benefit in the end.
1. the vehicle you want is CURRENTLY in production.
2. the dealer you settle with has an allocation, now.
3. nothing else goes wrong.
as far as trades, as clark said reference laying out the price, lay it all out up front. i had to visit three different dealers before i got one to understand how i felt. make sure the dealer understands that you intend to negotiate the price of the new vehicle, nail it down and then put it off to the side. then you'll discuss the value of your trade. the price of the new vehicle does not increase as the value of your trade does...this is important. some dealers flat won't come into your comfort zone here. you need to walk away. i would visit www.nada.com, www.carwizard.com, www.kbb.com (kelly blue book), and edmunds (this site) to get potential values for your trade. then, when the dealer low-balls you on your trade, you can ask how he figured his offer. chances are, they will use nada or kelly blue book. you can produce your print-outs you have and show them why they're wrong and then demand some honesty on their part. the other two are just good arguing points for you. use all the weapons you can to show the dealer you know what you're doing. everyone has a bottom line, and they'll either give it to you or let you walk. as clark said, this process can take awhile. take your time and you will benefit in the end. and most importantly...remember it's your $30k, not theirs...until they EARN it.
