no feelings were hurt..just couldn't understand why you would ask for help and then insult. I work at my computer (for myself) for 8-10 hours a day..so much needed breaks (and visits to this board and others) are needed to keep my mind sharp for my clients. Again, not sure why you would come to this board asking for help and insult (yet a second time). Since I ordered my first truck on Sept 9, and the second (and successful one) on Dec 29th, I have found everyone to be very helpful..I have a lot of notes from these helpful people, and they sure helped my with what options to buy, and what price to offer..

Looking for a truck which is a business deduction so some time WILL have to be spent behind the dreaded repetaive motion inducing keyboard. Besides once you visited the site lock it in under favorite places & it's a key touch away. As with any business & life in general, as the TV commercial implies "ARE YOU READY" to meet the challenge!

Glad to be of some help.

The statement you quoted made by GM C.A. regarding No Flares, the 3/4 tons 2WD & 4WD come standard with them per the brochure. I am chalking that up to cust. assist. doublespeak! But my actual delivery will tell me exactly without relying on them any more for answers, to many misquotes on their part (GM) to be reliable.

Ray, can you point me in the right direction in the brochure? I can only see on page 40 where they are an option on the 1500 4X4's but standard on the 2500 4X4's (it doesn't acutally say 2500 4X4's but my dealer says that's what it means). Is it in another place where it's clearer? I'll be glad if he is wrong..we'll both know soon!thanks

page 33 shows a 2500 2WD w/o flares..I'm looking into buying them..did someone mention a place on line to get them from? I thought womeone said they clip and glue on..no holes. We'd like to have them painted at the same time as the cap. Thanks.

To give u the info i have seen but it looks like the 2wd 2500's dont come with flares. The new truck trend also had the new 2500 HD and 3500 trucks. 2500 HD come in crew cabs they are pretty nice. Maybe they will mess up and put em on anyways. I think you can get them from the service dept when your truck comes in and you can get the color you want also but they cost more.

The write up was actually not in the brochure but rather under Edmunds New Truck description of features for the Silverado 2WD 2500, so if I don't get them who cares didn't want them anyway. They are available thru performance products catolog I obtained via this web page under free catologs for $273.20 a set & come in low gloss charcoal grey but you gotta paint them to match if you want other than that. As for what my truck comes with only delivery will tell me for sure.

I had a heck of a time locating what I wanted in a 3/4 ton. Was opting to order but every dealer I went to could not guarantee a delivery. I was originally looking for a LB but settled for a SB due to better availability. Dealer in upstate NY sold it for 500.00 over invoice and even produced the invoice. Got the 500.00 loyalty discount from trading in 92 K1500 Blazer. Very happy truck drives like a dream. 6.0 Engine has a lot of ponies!

Nyal, which dealer in Upstate NY did you buy from? We got ours thru DeNooyer on Wolf road in Albany. Had originally ordered from Northstar in Clifton Pk, but the price went up when the truck came in. Just passed it today (truck came in in Dec), and see it's still there..guess not too many people (sides us) want a 2WD in NY!

I was up there yesterday. Part of my problem was that I wanted some specifics (really wanted Indigo Blue). I talked to Allstar in Saratoga. I had previously vowed I would never go there again because of the service department but now my daughters stepfather works as a salesman there. Adams Chevy in East Greenbush would match the deal if I didn't want to drive but most of the other dealers wouldn't dicker over a 3/4 ton. Every truck we found outside of the area was wither sold or the dealer couldn't get a dealer trade on it. Frank is the only one I would buy from though after watching some of the others up there. I asked Frank for a straight up price over invoice and he said $500. I probably could have tried to bargain with him some more but I thought this was very fair. After my search yesterday I called him up and told him I'll take the one off the lot because it had everything I wanted except the long box. I took the truck for the day and brought it back so he can have it prepped for Monday pickup. He also needs to have a slider installed as well. While I was there I watched two more people looking for that truck and ready to buy right off the sticker because they couldn't find a 3/4 ton. I have a 92 K1500 Blazer and the 4wd came in handy when I worked strange hours at KAPL. The last few winters I haven't used it that much though and when I did it was more convenience (because it was there) than anything else. Having owned trucks all my life I didn't think it was necessary anymore and this was mostly due to what the pricing (even invoice) is these days. I will say this though, the LS model I will be picking up is more loaded as an LS than my 92 was with the silverado package. In the long run the 4wd drive cost me about 2k more but I decided it was worth it to not have to wait months for a new vehicle. I had some time contraints as well becase the Blazer has 145k on it and the dealer kind of wanted it asap.

We bought from Bruce at DeNooyer. We had had a really bad experience at Northstar (uped the price when the long awaited for truck came in..contract meant nothing to them). The price was good, and we had still time to re-order. I like their service (we have two other Chevy's). I would have preferred to buy from Salisbury, but their price was awful, and they didn't want to dicker it. We didn't think of Allstar til we had already ordered. We ordered the Carmine LS with lots of options(and the first truck is still sitting at Northstar, after he told us they could sell it ten times in the one day we refused to pay more than the contract price!) We get to start all over with the pricing game, as we order a Holiday Rambler Trailer, now.

I am negotiating a purchase for a 2000 Silverado Ext Cab 4 Dr LT. The model with the options I like needs to be ordered...No problem but what do I need to be concerned about is how can I minimize potential problems with the ordering process? I talked with the dealer who told me "8 weeks tops"! Thats fine but then I asked him how confident he was on this. He said "For Sure". It is at this point I asked him to back up his "Confidence" with something substantial like double the deposit back ($500)or additional money off the purchase price if he is later then his commitment. He kinda gave me a glazed look...As I said I am still negotiating and feel that writing a clause (I understand the limited value of the "Spoken" word)like this in the contract would help. Any comments???
My next question is the current offer for the purchase price. I have three invoice prices for this vehicle with one from Edmunds. They vary just a little with the spread from high to low of about $300. Edmunds is in the middle. What surprised me was the dealers first offer (OK'd by the sales manager) was 1% over invoice (we did print THEIR invoice to verify and their invoice matched the lowest invoice of the three I had. I think my wife and I did a very good good guy/bad guy routine on him but from what I know 1% is an OK deal??? I understand about Holdback and he did include $292 advertising fee (about 1.1%). What would a good counteroffer be... I was looking forward to several iterations in the haggling process.

    Thanks for Any Help

    Appreciate your advice. Thanks

I did not mention in my first posting but Capitol is the dealership I am working with. Unfortunately I am not working with Alan...But so far I feel OK with them.
I understand about the order process better now and realize I may have to wait longer than whatever the original schedule says. I was somewhat sure of this when the salesman was giving me his "guarantee's". It's just my business nature to ask someone to put their money where their mouth is! I will check up on discounts as you indicated.

Any advice on the offer from the dealer. One thing I did not mention was that this was the dealers second offer. The first offer was for $1,000 over invoice. My immediate counter was for $1,000 under invoice (if he wants to be that way, I can to). Since his 1st offer was on the table for about 1 second before my counter I failed to mention it as being superfluous. He then talked with his Sales manager (and came back with the 1% over invoice). I talked with him about holdback and he said he did not share in that part of the pie. My feeling is that since I am ordering this truck and it will sit on their lot for maybe one day (thats some pretty healthy Inv turns!!!) I should negotiate based on this 3% instant profit. Is it true the dealer will not share in hold back? If so I can understand his reluctance to reduce the price further.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Funny, I use to live in Malta and would get all my service done at Norhtstar. Never bought anything there though. Never liked Allstar before (especially the service dept). I had a problem with my Blazer running hot and they couldn't figure out what it was. Service Manager thought it might be the fan clutch and recommended stuffing a broom handle in to determine if that was the cause. Said if the handle broke it was a bad hydraulic clutch. Either way you would have to replace the fan blade. The sad thing is that he was serious about doing it. Frank was great to work with although his manager I didn't care for (was the typical stereotype). Worked with Frank and the General Manager (Kevin). I did see your vehicle at Norhtstar though! Where are you getting your Holiday Rambler from? Didn't know there were any dealers in the area.

    Bob,
Because my deal was thru a supplier discount program, I did not need to negotiate a price. But I would say that 3% over invoice is a good deal on a hot item like the 4dr truck. I did notice that the "invoice" comparison that was generated did include a 1% adjustment which was most likely the advertising fee. So check it out carefully. You are right that the vehicle will not sit on the lot very long. The vehicle prep team gives 1st priority to ordered vehicles. Mine was ready in less than 2 hrs.

We too thought Northstar was a good place to get our truck until they changed the price. When the truck came in with hefty advertising charges, they said we agree to pay $500 over invoice..and we owed that. We said the $500 over invoice was the invoice at the time of contract. They laughed at us and said that when he left to get the managers sig on the contract..he never really signed it, so it was void. He admitted he knew there would be advertising charges, even though we asked at the begining and he said they were figured in the $500. Our lawyer said it was a contract, since they took our $1,000 down. It was bad all around. They had no allocations when we ordered, but told us Chevy took the order. We called Chevy for the order number, they said they didn't have an order. We ordered on Sept 9, and it came in a few days before Christmas. They then said they could sell it ten times that day alone if we didn't want it..we said go ahead. He then tried to keep the $1,000 saying we broke the contract, but of course they couldn't. We not only won't do business with them again, but a friend decided not to buy his Suburban there (he had gotten a price and had done some bargaining and was planing to), and our daughter bought her new Chevy elsewhere after seeing the shady treatment. They were really nasty on the phone..when we called once to see if we could switch to a 4-door, the manager came in the room (we could hear him), and started yelling that he better not have ordered the truck for nothing (prophecy?)!). I understand he is not the manager any more..Chevy says there is a change going on when we called them to complain.

We have Holiday Rambler dealers in Malta Rt 9 (Nothway Travel) and at Campers Barn in Kingston. We sent out bid sheets to 9 others within a few hundred miles, and will be going to the Springfield trailer show this weekend.
    Sorry to be so long.

I found a 2000 3dr LS extended cab which had all the options I wanted except it had fog lamps which I didnt want and it has the 245 off/on road tires (286 msrp) instead of the 265 tires that I wanted. The good thing is that it is from a hometown dealer which has a great reputation and
they just happened to have this truck on thier lot. (1 of 2 silverados) They will sell for 500 over but I also have to pay a $75 advertising fee.
Does everyone pay this? Can someone talk me into the 245 size tires? advantages/disadvantages
What about the fog lamps? Do those of you who have them use them? Are they just for looks?
