well gals and guys, ordered a 2500 LT extended cab long bed 4X4 back in january. options were locking diff, HD trailering package, skid plates, 5th wheel wiring. everything else is part of LT package or 4 wheel package. lock diff helps immeasurably when in a fix even with 4 wheel. well my dealer who has been nothing but super, got chevy to except the order in mid june, but for a 2000. truck has been built as a 2000 last week of june. so you can guess i am drooling awaiting to received it. i have kept up with every notation everyone has inputed to this and do find it great. will watch out for the pitfalls to come. dealer has raised the price about 1% from original quote due to an increase to him from chevy. no big deal. thinking about a rhino liner or x-liner. what's the difference? will be towing a 5th wheel. leaving behind a 7200GVW 2500 l989chevy 350 TBI pickup. served well. only l04,000 miles on it. can't wait for the new toy. any hints shoot away to me the info. thanks for all your input here.
Maybe you could have some rhino lining sprayed inside the fender well?? Shouldn't be too expensive and it'll probably make the truck a little more quiet, too.
Some chain stores, like WalMart etc..., have spray cans of bedliner and rocker liner, like the rhino spray mentioned earlier.
My brother in-law painted his front fenders and inner fenders with this stuff on his Jeep and it worked great. He had previously worked on the front fenders twice w/auto paint, but due to flat design they were just rock magnets. The spray on protection looked great on the fenders, and virtually invisible in fender well.
I installed aluminum running boards, otherwise I probably would have used the liner spray. I have two tone Indigo Blue w/Pewter, so running boards actually look sharp.
Softball night. Wasted half a day on my steering alignment problem. More on that later. Two lanes merge into one on the far side of the intersection. Usually everyone lines up single file, but you guessed it. In the lane next to me that's going to end in 200 feet pulls an F150 extended cab, dark blue, with the sub-woofer/boom box cranked, and a squid from generation X driving. I wasn't sure if he was going to race, but that's the thing I learned on the track, that winning isn't always fair. So when the light went green, I got the drop, put a truck length in front, shut the door. I'm not sure if it was a '98 or '99. It was beautiful. I think I surprised him, but that's racing. I slowed for traffic, and he filled my mirrors, aggressive for a moment. But too late. Better luck next time.
Later, we lost a pretty close game, about 21-16. Amy, Mike's girlfriend, and I are doing shots of Hornitos Tequila. She's being very friendly to me, but I like Mike. She stands up in the bed of Mike's '98 K1500 ext cab, then steps up on the roof of the cab! Everyone implores her not to put a dent on poor Mike's truck roof. But she hoots, and then strips naked throwing her panties on the ground. The scene wrapped-up pretty quickly after that.
When I complained my steering had a slight pull to the right several months back, the dealer performed a chassis alignment that fixed the pull, for a while. I took it to a Firestone dealer since it came with Wilderness A/T's on it. They reported the alignment was off slightly, adjusted the left camber and front toe, sent me away. It pulled to the right even worse. This perplexed us all. They said the wheel with more positive camber will have the pull in that direction. This was the right wheel before the alignment. After the adjustments were made, they were evened out, yet the pull was more pronounced. We put it up on the alignment rack for a second time after the test drive, and it still showed all four wheels to be in nearly perfect optical alignment within the specs, including thrust angle, and demonstrated the repeatability of the Hunter alignment machine.
So why did it pull to the right? It was the radial tire influence. Because what they did was swap the wheels on each axle. Then the pull went to the other direction, slightly. Since this works against the influence of the road crown, I said leave it alone. It's perfect. And right now it is. Tires are imperfect. Everything about them, how the bead seats, how they cure, vulcanize, hand laid plies etc.
They told another patron if you don't feel a vibration, there is no need to balance the tires just because they are off the car. They can put a balanced wheel on the spin balancer, and it may call for up to 1 oz of weight to be put somewhere, even though it was just balanced on the same machine.
I had my credit union try to find a pewter 2000 LT and they called with one for about 700 over invoice. I went to check it out last night and what an ugly truck. Pinstripes and fender flares. Oh well, my search continues.
ordered pewter 2500 y2k for 500 over Reg cab long bed loaded. Does any body know how aux battery is wired. Or what comes with sm=now plow prep on 2500. Dealer claimed to have base y2k 2500 delivered already.
I see you have some info. Dave, on power increases for the V-8's for the 2000 models. I was just wondering where that info. came from. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I've looked, and of course the chevy webpage still only has 1999 information. Also I'm debating between a 1500 and a 2500 X-cab, 4WD. Besides the bigger engine and HD transmission, what else accounts for the 800 lb weight increase and nearly double payload?
Since there on the streets I don't think it should be a secret any longer. The 4.8L & 5.3L got the 6.0L cam. Not an expert on this but I think that change is the biggest factor in increasing rated performance.
Damn, Quad, my weekend definitely wasn't that good!! I look at it this way, if the batteries in the camera were charged, probably wouldn't have happened. I love it!
Just did a road trip from Flagstaff, AZ to Two Harbors, MN and return. Had the truck loaded with the family, dog, and camping gear. The ride in my LS, 1500, ext cab, 4x4, 4.8L, 5-speed was extremely smooth and comfortable. One thing that I'm curious about is the difference in mileage from what I had with gas purchased in the west and southwest with what I got with gas from the midwest and Great Lakes. Western gas mpg was 19-20, whereas the midwest gas mpg was 17-18 (all pretty much highway miles). My guess is that it has something to do with the gas. Anyway, I've got nearly 6,000 miles on the truck now and have not experienced any of the vibration, pinging, windshield, etc. problems that have been posted by others. I hope that it continues that way....
87 in the west. When mileage started to drop in the midwest, I switched to 89. It did not seem to make a difference, though. I switched back to 87 in Fort Morgan all the way back to Flag.
All BS aside.....Do they still make Ford Trucks anymore?? Are they even in Business any more?
Henry Who??
I will say that they look better than F-150's....those are a Joke!....Like something out of a Bad cartoon!...can't stand those gay [non-permissible content removed] Mirrors on SD's though.....it's like a Truck version of Alfalfa going down the road!...with big [non-permissible content removed] ears sticking out!
Ford's beefier alright...they got the Beef ...right in the palm of their hands!
A few days after I picked up my LT, the sunlight happened to hit the tailgate just right to show a little "ding" or indentation on both sides of the release handle (toward the bottom). Since then I have looked more carefully at the '99 Silverados in town and at the dealer. To my surprise, all of them have the same problem to some degree. Most, like mine, show more on the left side of the handle.
It's not a big flaw, and in fact I didn't notice it for a few days. But when the light hits just right, you can see the reflections bend due to the "ding."
The dealer said they'd try to straighten it, but didn't know if it could be done easily. Since it's the way they seem to be stamped, I'm not sure I care. I'm just wondering if anyone else has the "problem" and/or ever noticed it on other '99 Silverados.
I noticed the same thing on my truck. It almost seems that they cinched down too hard when they installed the tailgate handle causing the dents. They are pretty small, however, and only noticable in the right light and at the right angle.
Just bought a LT 1500 4x4 5.3L in Med. Charcoal Grey and every option available. Built in Canada and very disappointed. Has only 230 miles on it and already been to the shop. Here is the list:
"Service Engine Soon" - Warning light came on and stayed on. Checked the gas cap and it was tight. Dealer says it had an "EGR" error code and they fixed it.
Right speaker rattles constantly when using a lot of bass. Dealer wouldn't fix. Said that the rattle is the entire door panel and all doors will do that with a lot of bass. What a bunch of [non-permissible content removed].
Truck pulls to the right and steering wheel is cockeyed to the left. Dealer says that GM won't pay to repair alignment until after 750 miles. Says it might self-correct in the meantime. Another pile of smelly crap.
The passenger side power seat controls were so loose that they would jam up inside the plastic holes. Dealer fixed this.
Passenger seat rattles constantly and can see a constant vibration of the seatback.
Some sort of mysterious thumping sound in the rear when I turn right. Doesn't do it all the time. Obviously the dealer acts stupid and won't fix.
Lots of sounds and rattles in the interior.
Very disappointed with my truck. I probably will try to sell it soon. I'm not putting up with shoddy quality.
and that would be the night before Wednesday which (as we all know) would be SOFTBALL/GIRL ON A TRUCK ROOF night . . . how's the camera battery re-charge going ??
It sounds like you should try another dealer if you can find one. I do know that GM does like to wait on alignment problems so hat the suspension has a chance to settle. Sounds hokey, but apparently often when the alignment is done at low mileages it needs to be redone again. Check for tire wear; if it is showing any at all, then the dealer should do it no matter what mileage.
My LT, also built in Canada, now has 1200 miles in just under 3 weeks and is very solid.
The speaker problem is unusual. Ask the dealer to show you a model on the floor that does it. Mine does not (although I now have a Bazooka subwoofer, so the regular speakers no longer have to do much in the way of bass). Call Chevy assistance if the dealer refuses to budge. My guess is that the dealer didn't do the prep work that they are paid to do (i.e. washing, tightening bolts that may have loosened during shipping, etc.) There should be no rattles (mine is almost eerie it is so quiet).
No rattles in mine after 10,500 miles. Very solid. No speaker problems either, but I don't use lots of bass. My steering did pull to the right slightly, but my alignment was spot on (checked 3 times), and tire wear was even. The tire dealer crossed the tires to the opposite side on the same axles. This made it pull slightly the other way, so it is the radial tires causing the pull. After a while, it did seem to even out. Right now, it runs true and straight. I don't think these trucks have a problem with alignment. I think they have a problem with tires. You should try switching them to the opposite side on the same axles, to see if it pulls the other way. Bet it does.
I have a 2500 xcab longbed 4X4. Seems that when towing my 5th wheel(8000 lbs.) the rear shakes when I start out slowly till about 20 mph. Any ideas? Had mine for about 2 months and it developed a bass rattle in the right speaker and the interior fan has started to make an unusual sound. Mine was made in Michigan, and I have been pleased with it except for the mentioned problems. Got the Line-x spray in bed liner and am extremely pleased with it. The 6.0 tows like a dream except that it will shift a lot on random hills. I only tow in OD on flat or moderate roads. Ran 4 to 6% hills at 65 and 70 mph. Gas mileage was about 8 to 9.5 towing and 12 empty. Does anyone else like these sorry Firestone tires that Chevy puts on the 2500's? Mine have already developed indentations on the sidewalls.
If you want a truck to get you down the road pulling what ever kind of trailer go with the ford and if you want a truck to carry your six bags of groceries then get the chevy.
