You definitely want to go under the lip bedliner, but check out the spray-in bedliners. Rhino and Liner-X are two out there. The plastic drop-in kind tend to rust the bed as they vibrate and scratch the paint over time. Paint is really to prevent rust, not just for looks. Spray-in is about $400, but worth it overtime. The only drawback is they have a rough finish so sliding something into the bed is no easy task.

the mopar is not a duraliner, it is a penda aka pendaliner. i paid 170 installed for mine (underrail) if you get it make sure they put some foam under the tailgate cover that goes over the top of the gate, it rubbed most of my paint off. but ive had duraliners and a few others and they all do it if its a bad install and mine was. and now i have to have part of my tailgate repainted because A: it looks bad and will rust B: i got a new tonneau and they had to cut the part that goes over the top of the gate off so it stands out real bad, thats how i found out, and ive had mine for less than 2 months, if you dont need a drop in like i do, get the spray on like line-x or rhino.

well i finally got my roll-n-lock on my quad, they
had almost 50 orders for the cover before thay had
it built and ready for shipment. i love it so
far, a friend of mine has the pace edwards and its
about the same, but his is not as smooth or strong,
and mine locks the tailgate, the pace edwards you
have to get a pop n lock or a power lock (with the
power lock you loose your manual opening ability).
i also installed my oem fender flares, they have
been on back order forever. the quad looks awesome
now.

i paid about 240 for them at my dealer and that includes paint, i looked at local accessory stores and they wanted about 500 painted.
i installed the flares myself and it only took about 30 min or so, the hardest part is the rear ones, either take off the rear wheels or make sure you have a bent torx or a bent allen that will fit the torx screws that come with it, very easy install, and it looks like the factory installed it.

Mailman54- OEM Wheelflares are $255, and the molded mudflaps (made to fit the flares) are $70. I ordered mine 3 Jan and picked both up today 9 Feb. Upon ordering, I was informed there was a long backorder on the flares but, I felt it was worth it- especially after checking prices and quality of other available items at local custom shops.

Flares are color matched to your paint code. I have the red garnet / driftwood bottom, so I ordered the driftwood flares. Hope to install them this weekend.

Any recommendations on holding/aligning it prior to screwing it in place? Or do you recommend starting at one end and proceeding to the other?

Also, did you also install the mudflaps?

the flares align themselves, its a tight fit and a monkey could do it, it has some 3m adhesive across much of the top and the plastic film that keeps the tape from sticking is left on the flare until just before you tighten down the screws you have already installed, the plastic is cut long and hangs out of the flare, when your ready to tighten the screws you just pull on the plastic film and it feels off the tape, and as it peels off the tape is on your paint, then you snug the screws down and your done, your really gonna laugh when you see how easy this is, all the holes are already there. i havent gotten the mudflaps yet, gotta slip one thing and a time by the wife. i luckily got my flares and my tonneau in at the same time and both were installed by 3pm. but i will be getting the flaps, which ones are you looking at, do you have a part number?

Well, a week has passed since the last time I checked up on my Black 5.9, 3.92, 4WD Quad on order and it has now passed to "D" status as of the 7th, moving to "D1" in a few days according to "Dave" at DC. Speaking of different types of status (?, statuses, stati, status', doesn't sound right), I lost the chat or link, whatever it was on defining the different statusses (?). In another discussion that I was reading, I am disappointed at the appearent argument between the 4.7 and the 5.9...which is better? Before I ordered mine, I did a little research and listened to everyone discuss the "ticking" noise and the "milking" of the oil near the breather. I may eat my words but, to me, nothing is better than time tested reliability. Sure I may end up getting a little worse fuel mileage than the rest of you 4.7L Quad owners, but I think I will have the piece of mind of time tested technology. Also, no substitution for cubic inches.... anyone will tell you that. To me, I'll breathe just a little bit easier knowing my truck won't strain as much when pulling my ---lbs. boat whether it be 1000lbs or 6000lbs.....Just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy reading everything anyone has to comment about the Quad. All information has been greatly helpful in my decisions on my purchase. The bedliner installation information WILL definately be followed up on.

To all the previous CHEVY owners that switched, ME TOO. There is something mesmerizing about that Quad.

Anyway, not meaning to rattle, I am looking forward to becoming a QC owner/driver/flaunter.

At long last, I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it is not an oncoming freight train. I spoke with Ernie this A.M. @ Daimler/Chrysler, and my unit is status "D" and is scheduled to be built the first week in March. He provided me with the VIN and suggested that I speak with him the week of the 02/21 for further update. I am a happy camper. Thank you very much for your continuing input and edification along with education.

Looks like yours and mine were released to "D" status about the same time. I asked if it was possible to get the actual rail car number that it would be on. He said yes. I think I've got some what of an advantage on everyone else whose is shipped by rail. I work for CSX. Don't think I am not going to expedite that train once I know what Rail car its on and get that puppy spotted to be unloaded. I just wish I could drive it off the damn rail car (auto rack - that's what we call them) and drive it home!

I believe there are several choices however, I wanted the molded flaps- for looks and rigidity. With the Quad, the numbers change for the rear. Each pair front/rear was $36. Here is the number and description off the Box:

82203473 Guard Kit- Dakota/Durango FRT W/Flares
82204879 Dakota 4 Door Rear

The latter does not specify the Flares on the box. According to the paperwork in the sealed pkg with the mudflap- it states it is for the "Dakota 4 Door Rear with wheel flares. The length of the rear is approx 2" longer as well.

Man, you must be some 'low key' kind of guy. I've had mine for nearly two months and have just about run out of stuff to complain about (except for henne's little surprises). Getting ready for that first big 'Across TX' trip, already. It seems like I've known you f-o-r-e-v-e-r. I've had 'serious' relationships that lasted for less time than you've been waiting for your truck. I was about ready to launch a petition to help move your status along. Heck, you can even borrow mine!

Boy, do you have me wrong. I'm as laid back as a runaway freight train. As far as whining, I can provide a note from my bride that will attest to my constant complaining. I got that from my dad. He once found a hundred dollar bill and then complained that he would have to get it changed. He muttered, "why couldn't it have been five twenty's"?
By the way Bill, I'm still waiting for the information regarding the disarming of the speed limiter. Email it to me if you are concerned about "classified documents."

Went and ordered flaps today. They tried to give me the wrong ones for the rear until I pointed out that they were different for the Dak QC :-)

Honest to God, this is why I passed up buying a Jeep Cherokee in '94. (Blazer instead) Quality problems.
Same as I see and read about the 4.7L vs/ auto trans. Dodge
Are we gonna have a good product to drive?. or we gonna have to take it back to the dealer every week.?

OK my observations and mods so far;
1. ticking noise, I have not heard it but,I do have the stereo on most of the time. I have listened for it but don't hear anything.

2.oil filler tube condensation, I did have very small droplets in the upper part of the filler tube,I believe this is fairly normal in the colder temps we are having here now.I removed all condensation with one swipe of a paper towel.

3. engine clutch fan,a little noisy when starting out cold, not a problem.

I had a Line-X spray in bedliner installed, looks great! I had a drop in in another truck and hated it. my dealer sold Rhino Linings but I was not impressed by the truck they had on the lot with one.

I had the front windows tinted to match the rear ones.

I towed a trailer with 3 dirtbikes and a couple of riding buddies last weekend with all our gear,no problem at all. I did turn the O/D off when I got into a hilly area to avoid excessive trans. shifting.

All in all this is a great truck tows well, drives well,sounds good when you stomp on the gas!
If you are ordering a Quad I highly reccomend the high end stereo with CD and the steering wheel controls.

2wd with lsd seems to work pretty well in the small amount of snow we have had so far.

I now have only 187 miles on mine, had it delivered last week. I will have it back in the shop on Monday for the following. Has two pretty good scratches on hood and front passenger door. They say they will need to repaint the whole door.The door spring is missing on the right rear passenger door. These were the things I found when I picked it up. I took it out today and it is a warm day down here in Texas so I went to turn on the A/C... yep no A/C. You can hear the compressor kick in but just warm air blowing out. Yes, I did have it on the right spot(where they show the little snowflake). I hope it is just a slow leak in the line and I hope this is all the problems I get. This is a first for me owning a Dodge, I hope it won't need to be my last. At least the dealer is pleasant and will provide a loner for the time the Quad is down. I just don't have the time to keep running a vehicle back and forth to the shop. Has anyone else had a problem with their A/C? Those fender flares sound good, I will check into those.I have the 4.7 with the 3.92, lots of power but you hit 65 mph at 3,ooo rpm when not in O/D and 73 mph at 3,000 rpm when using O/D. I would of hoped for a few less rpm at that speed.

Ordered my Quad this Saturday. 4.7L, 2wd, loaded, 5 sp. I ended up $150 over invoice (may have done better, but it is from the dealer up the street and the next closest dealer is about 20 miles away), but had to pay that annoying $550 advertising fee. That seemed high to me especially since other posts I have seen don't seem so high. I was thinking of calling around to other dealers and seeing what they charge. I know I have to pay ad fee, but it wouldn't suprise me if the dealer was padding the fee. Any body else experience this?

Also, I did not order the lsd, even though I have the 4.7l and 5 sp and others have said it is mandatory. Now the dealer will enter it on Monday, so I may get a phone call on, yet. Living in Houston, and with no desire to go off road, lsd is not really needed.

Can I get mud flaps without having to get the fender flares? Don't have an ulimited budget, but want to protect the paint.

the 'ad fee' is another term for adm, or additional dealer markup. this 'fee' is already built into the invoice. as an example, i paid $50 over invoice for my 99 slt+ cc - no ad fee was tacked on. i realize this model wasn't as hard to get when i ordered it as the 4.7l qc is now, but ANY markup over the invoice is dealer profit - the laws of supply and demand. btw, there are 2 different styles of mudflaps available for dakotas w/o wheelflares. (the molded style looks really nice). good luck!

1000 miles now and no problems at all. Great truck, fun to drive. I wired mine for trailer lights with an add on wiring harness for a 99 Dakota but it fit perfectly, cost was $20.00. It plugs directly into the Dodge receptacles back near the bumper.
One thing though: what is that thing at the rear of the frame that is mounted in rubber. Its a heavy piece of pipe that goes between the frame rails.
Also it's warm her so I haven't seen much of the condensation in the oil tube that some of you have, but I have thought of a solution. I try it and get back with you soon.

that 'thing' mounted between the frame rails is the stabilizer bar - helps keep the truck more level or flatter during cornering by keeping the frame mechanically referenced to the axle.

Does anyone know the dealer price on the under rail bedliner for the Quad Dakota? I read a couple of posts about this but I cant find them. Are there any other options besides the dealer? I not really interested in a spray in liner. Thanks guys. Oh yeah! I got a ship date of 2/23 from both the dealer contact and a great customer service rep at DC. Can't wait.

Mopar prices the under-the-rail bedliner at 250.00 in their accessories hand-out. It was noted elsewhere that they make none of their products themselves. Dealer prices vary, and will charge for install. There are all kinds of alternative vendors.

The bar he refers to is not the horizontal stabilizer. It is a foam covered pipe mounted between the rails and is directly in front of the rear bumper. I was told 2 stories by 2 different dealers- regarding why it was included with the Quad Cab only.
1) to reduce an annoying whistling sound
2) to minimize vibration felt back into the cab- offered "ride improvement quality" was the term if I remember

you will find it on sport utilities with truck frames (as far as chrysler goes, not sure of other automakers), since the cabin area is further aft than a standard truck they have to add this to dampen the noise and vibration, not sure of the engineering but i know the reason and i understand it.

took truck in today for the ticking tsb, i should have it back tomorrow, also getting 2nd oil change and tires rotated. since its there i am having them go over all tsb's and also over the brake system i.e. rotors and so on, ya never know.

penda says that they have had no complaints about the tailgate cover rubbing the paint off on the outside edge of the liner, i am still bickering with them, the warranty states that they do not cover paint scuffing and scratching in the bed, hahahaha this is outside the bed, so they are looking into the technicalities. i know a few people that have had theirs scratched, anyone else?

4.7 whisper down the road and roar when i ask it,
and its all thanks to (houtslaw), that tsb fixed my
ticking and my truck is so quiet i cant believe
its the same truck, the dealer was so confused that
this would actually work, but whammo, ticky gone,
ticky gone gone.

the tsb is for trucks with the 4.7 made before nov
23rd 1999, so go get this done now, it will change
your whole outlook on your truck.

My local dealer has 40 red quads, to be used as "pacetrucks" in an upcoming Nascar truck race nearby. A friend of mine has a shop that is putting all kinds of lettering and race type banners on the trucks, and a muffler shop down the street is putting catback systems on each one. I think the system is a Dynomax. Anyone have any info on these exhaust systems? they look and sound nice. BTW, they are all 4.7L auto 4x2s.

Help! I ordered my Quad Cab on 2/7/00 and forgot to question the air bag arrangements. Can you de-activate the passenger side airbag. I have two small boys ages 7 & 5. I know, I know, the safety gurus want all kidos in the back, but I stayed up until 2:00am last night pondering this question. If I can't disable the passenger side, the boys are stuck in the back for awhile. Also, does anyone out there own the Quad in "Amber Fire". I saw one on a local lot and knew that was the color for me. Went back on a Monday and it was gone. On the same lot I saw a Dakota "Super Cab" in the same color...no way would I have touched it. I went with my first initial impression when ordering and chose "Amber Fire"

Sorry to say the airbag disable is not on the Quad cabs. I think they make the assumption that if you have the quad, the kiddies will be in the back.

I have a 10 year old daughter, and I still don't let her ride up front. However, she doesn't mind at all, she loves the room she's got in the back compared to the middle of our old ford f150 reg cab.

I have the same concerns about the airbag. I have seen some companies (while internet surfing)that are in the business of installing passenger side airbag disconnet switches. I will be pursueing this as I have a 10 year old fishing partner that will have a hard time staying in the back seat. If anyone has had any experience with this, any info would be appreciated.

My Quad due in March is ordered in Amber Fire Pearl (PV3). I ordered it seeing a tiny metallic piece. Actually, my bride thought it looked "cool". I did see a Dakota R/T in that color after I placed my order, and it is wild.

I purchased my bedliner at Thornton Dodge in Florence Al for $225.00 installed. Fender flares
$210.00 and folding tonneau cover $630.00 I installed these my self. The fender flares make the truck look 100% better!

(cowtownkid) - My dealer had one. I loved it, but my wife didn't want something glowing in the garage. Amber was my second choice, but my wife wouldn't go for the intense blue either. So WE (I) settled for the Driftwood... which look great in a SLT (Driftwood, crome, and the grey front facia makes a great comb.)

Great color! My truck is scheduled to ship next Tuesday. 4.7L, Auto, SLT+, 3.55 LSD, 2 WD, Reg cab, HD service pkg, Sliding rear window, CD player, Fog lights and Amber Fire Pearl.

Looks almost like a copper color for those that haven't seen it.

little over 2000 miles on Quad cab and love it except for the condensation. changed the oil twice once by dealer and oil/water mix will build up to 1/8 inch on inside of filler pipe. Discussed this with Dealer & he couldn't explain it. talked to Chrysler & they said it's normal. I asked for a written response on the condensation and they said ONLY IF YOU BRING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST CHRYSLER WILL I GET A WRITTEN RESPONSE. Great customer service. I'v had many cars in my 50+ years but never have seen this much oil/water mix in the filler pipe. Dealer agrees it is excessive. Anyone else have this problem or gotten a better response from Chrysler? My concern is the effect on the engine in 200,000 miles (which I normally keep my cars).

I have been reading in this forum about the Farm Bureau discount. Now I have a question. I am purchasing my Quad cab through the internet and getting it for around $100 over MSRP plus some advertising charges etc. The basic price is considerable less then if I just walked into a dealer. Should I still expect the Farm Bureau discount. Do I need to do anything in advance or just give them the certificate when signing the papers. The last word from DC is that my truck will be build the first of Mar and should be in the dealers the last of Mar which gives me the 30 days before taking possession.

Appreciate any words of wisdom before I sign up for the FB

Thanks for the answer on the airbags, also good to hear the different opinions on "Amber Fire". I have to agree with wetwillie, I think it is the "coolest" color in decades. Hey bookitty, just how long have you been waiting for your Quad? I have read some of the previous posts and man, you must be going through pure hell! I've only been waiting 11 days and not sure if I'm going to make it or not...
