the bar you are referring to between the spare tire and the bumper is a vibration isolation bar, it is on the durango also, it is used to keep the outside noise related to the frame and rearend of drive train from vibrating through the frame, you wont find them on pickups because the enclosed area is so far away from the rearend, since the quad is just a few feet from the rear they had to put it in for our quiet time so we can hear the infinity stereo even better hehehe (how sweet it is)

Just how well does the "Infinity" system sound? During all my test drives I turned the radio off to concentrate on the engine, road noise , etc. Never did crank up the sounds. Is it adequate, or are you or any other Quad owners with the system planning on adding any accessories?

Black Sport by my barn this evening, ordered 1/10 and picked up yesterday. Dealer (Philly 'burbs) had told the young man 12 weeks minimum so he was very suprised to receive a call to pick up. 4x4 that lists for 27 plus. Dealer was offered 34k for the truck as it came off the hauler. My wife says that happens to me, get the guy's name and sell.
    What would you waiters do?

I went out to the A.R.E. site and checked them out last night... I'm going to swing by a couple of places this weekend and hopefully they'll have some examples to look at. I take it that you had good luck with the top and didn't have any leakage problems? Appreciate the input... I'm still cloud walking with the new truck... I can't get over how well it handles and how smooth n' quiet it is.... Thanx again

If I can jump in here... I like the infinity system just fine. The equalizer isn't much more than a glorified tone control but overall I think it sounds good (clean)and I like being able to play cd's or cassettes. I really like the controls in the steering wheel, especially the way they are unobtrusively mounted. I've had several people comment on that. Now, if you're into the 15" dual subwoofers with seperate 200 watt power amps it may not do the trick for you...

the stereo really does sound great, im a musician and it really seperates the sound field surprisinly well, i did think about an aftermarket system but after thinking how good the infinity sounds, and thinking about some 18 year old tearing my brand new dash apart at some audio shop it was no contest, the last stereo i added to a car the dash always rattled afterwards.

so my final comment is, the bass rocks.

Thanks, for the input fellows, From your posts and a few others, it seems that the inifinity should be adequate for my needs. (though I do like to crank it up on occasions). From what I have read I now wish I had ordered the radio controls in the steering wheel, at the time I was thinking I didn't want a lot of controls on my steering wheel (counting cruise control) Oh well, Headed out of town for the weekend, without my Quad, have a good one!

Does the high end infinity system come with an amp like the cherokees do?

I got a railcar number from DC customer service today. Anyone out there no how to access the tracking system for CSX Railway? I got a customer service number for the railroad but I am wondering if there is a way to do this on-line. Thanks.

Supposedly Penda is now shipping the heavy 1/2" rubber bedmats now. Got a call and will pick mine up on Monday morning.

Cost is $69.00 Beats $155 from Dodge (especially realizing that Penda makes the same unit for Dodge) Only difference is it may not have the Dodge Ram Symbol

In the April issue of Motor Trend (page 96) their is a pretty good article on a "tricked" 4x2 Dakota Quad Cab. Plenty of ideas, web sites and phone numbers for accessories.

I am looking for a Hard Tonneau cover for the pickup bed that is sleek/low profile, easy to remove and doesn't require drilling into the bed (has a frame kit). I have been talking with both Gaylord and Snugtop about theirs. Has any one seen either?

With only 500 miles on our new Quad, as I stopped for gas, we had smioke coming out of the hood. Open the hood and found tranny fluid all over. Checked level and could not tell where it was with the twists. Went right to dealer. Upon closer inspection, it appears that there is fluid all over the passenger wheel well on the outside. Will know more on Monday.

I'm in the market for a tonneau also for the new Quad I just purchased. I went to a local Leer dealer today and he quoted me $695 installed for a color matched 600 series. No drilling as it has the frame kit. 5 year warranty on paint and lifetime on the fiberglas. Looks pretty good..

You're welcome. I think you'll be satisfied with it. Too bad about the controls... they're way kool! I took the Quad to the dealer today and they fixed the door panel problem in about 10 min.
The only other problem I've got is something on the paint (the service guy said it is from the train trip...railroad dust?) I'm taking it in Monday and they're going to take care of it using that special "clay" to remove it. Check your paint when yours comes in... Have a good 'un

Has anybody else had to pay an advertising fee? My dealer here in Georgia says that it is mandatory and imposed by Chrysler. I bought about 8 new cars since 1982 and do not ever remember paying such a fee.
    Your comments appreciated.

Yes, I had to pay the advertising fee as well. Was also about $500. I live in CA. Supposedly this is just another dealer perk to make some $$, but I couldn't negotiate either. Here in CA, the quads are HOT, so I got it for $720 over invoice for the V8, which is as good as I could get living here in the SF bay area. That was through carpoint.
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
system does include a separate AMP. It is even separately fused in the fuse panel under the dash board. Got my Quad last Wednesday guys- this thing is awesome. I got the 4.7L with 3.55 rear, and boy this thing is like a rocket compared to the 5.2L Club Cab I just sold. Hopefully it holds up as well (especially the tranny).
  • snowedinsnowedin Member Posts: 58
there were some posts (either here or on one of the other dakota boards) that stated that they did not pay the adv. fee. I was not as fortunate-$280 for suburban Buffalo,NY

On Friday, March 03,2000, Ernie informed me that my truck "has gone to frame" confirming a ship date of 03/06/00. That actually means that it is completed on that date and goes to the shipping point to await, trains, planes and cars. However, it certainly looks like a good sign. Please exert extra caution at rail crossing to prevent a possible train wreck. Thank you for your continued cooperation.

You may yet get your truck. I was feeling a little guilty since according to the railway company my Sport 4x4 5spd 4.7 Quad had arrived Saturday at the railyard. Since that is only about 150 miles from the dealer I hope to get the truck this week.
I ordered on 2/5. To Bookitty and Themacguy and others I really do appreciate your posts. This is the first time I can say that I've honestly enjoyed the buying process. I hope you all continue to keep sharing information. ...Now about tonneau covers. I've narrowed my choices to the Gem, the Century and the Snugtop. Does anyone know how waterproof these things really are? Would my gear stay dry in a "toad-strangling thunder shower" or a trip through the carwash. Anybody had any actual experience with any of these brands? The snugtop midwest factory is only a few hours from here and since it seems postage is a major cost for these and other bulky aftermarkets items I thought I might save some money.

Hope this isn't comparable to "going to seed".

Just got off the phone, and my truck was built over the weekend. It's suppose to ship today. Estimated transit time is 4 days from the eastern side of Michigan, to the western side of Michigan. I COULD DRIVE IT IN TWO HOURS!!! I'm sure it won't take the full 4 days... I hope. I leave on business the end of this week, for a week, which means I might have to wait till next Saturday to get it... :(
As Bootkitty asked... please drive carefully around all carriers with Quads on them.
    Thanks
My order was placed on 2/3 shipping on 3/6 (2wd).
    Good Luck everyone.

Bookitty / ferous - your 3/6 shipping date is also my ex-wife's birthday, and she's well, a little 'different.' Just kidding ;-)

I guess Dodge just saved the 'best' for last. Congrats!

I have a 98 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L Xcab, but I test drove a Dakota QC 3.9L the other day. Loved it; handled surprisingly well, comfortable driving, and there is no comparison to the rear seating in other extended cabs. The only thing that bothers me is will I have enough power to move out when I need to, either in city or especially entering interstates, etc. I am not happy with the Tacoma in that regard. Most of the QC posts are about 4.7L; is the 3.9L OK?
  • snowedinsnowedin Member Posts: 58
see topic #1582. some thoughts there. personally, for a $502 upcharge, the 4.7L seems like a bargain.

Let me tell you ,I've had the 3.9L Now I have the 4.7L.Three words..."Day and night" My Quad 4x4 will roast the tires off(If I wanted it to)the 3.9L can't get out of its own way!
SLR9589- I hope you don't have to wait(a lot of horror stories)for long. I got lucky 1 Day. Class IS the word, Love my 2000!!

Seems Dodge finally got with it and everyone will be celebrate soon. We owned a 95 w/3.9 and have driven our Quad 4.7 2000 miles now; there is absolutely no comparison. Wind noise is greatly reduced, the noises from the air conditioner, the transmission, etc are absent. Best of all, the 4.7 is quiet, powerful, smooth, and the transmission shifts are slick. Been getting 16 city driving. Hope the tourneau and K&N filter help now that gas is $1.50. Wish all who are 'expecting' well and (trust me) you will be a happy bunch.

Well, I am still waiting for my QC. It was released from the factory and shipped on 2/25. It arrived here in Nashville via CSX last Thursday 3/2 at 17:30. (Train ID# Q23127 from New Boston, Michigan to Walbridge, OH to Cincinnati to Louisville,Ky then on Q57302 from Louisville to Nashville). It got spotted Friday night at the unloading facility for a Saturday morning unloading (I should know, I work in the rail yard for CSX). That's as far as I can trace it. It's not at the dealer so it's somewhere between Nashville and Springfield (about 30 miles north) on a truck! I hope!

I did order some accessories for it. What I have coming are the ventvisors for the doors, bug shield (3 piece), bed liner, aluminum bed rails, and the aluminum side steps (unfortunately the side steps are on back order). I thought I might as well do it all up and all I have to do is wash and drive it! Anyway, I'll try to post some pics of it when I get it with the accessories for those of you who aren't quite sure what to decide on.
Anyway.........I hope it gets to the dealer Tuesday so I could at least get it Wednesday at the latest!

    Here's to hoping,

    Jeff

DC confirmed my quad was shipped 3/1 via Norfolk Southern. Ernie stated that the rail car number was information he had but was unable to give out. I read previous posts where people called the 800 number at the bottom of the Netreddi (sp) site and were able to track their shipment provided they had a rail car number. How were you able to get your # ?
  • stvdmanstvdman Member Posts: 62
00 QUAD with 4.7,A/T,3:55's, mileage 2400, city driving and towing 1200# boat around over the weekend observed 13.5 mpg, not too bad considering we were also running the A/C.

Good choice an them "Aluminum bed rails". I put the black ones on my "Flame Red" 4x4.It breaks up all that Red just enough.Looks "Tuff",and am very happy with them.If you Install them your self take your time w/ 2 People its easier. Any Questions feel free to E-mail me.

hey guys.....Ordered the following truck 2/22 and is on D-Status as of yesterday....I was just trying to get a feel of how different the pricing was in different areas of the U.S.....Here's my experience from North Carolina....

    Quad 4x4 Sport/4.7L/3.55/Manual, with options:
    Deluxe Convenience
    Limited-Slip R. Axle
    Skid Plate Group 4x4
    Floor Mats Front/Rear
    Leather Wrap Steer Whl
    R.Win Defroster with Pwr/Ht Mirr.
    Pwr Overhead Conv. Grp
    Sport Plus Group
    Cloth HighBack Bucket
Invoice Price: $24,220 including $520 Dest and $530 Adv Fee(which i thought was excessive).......
    MSRP=$26,380
    I paid $24,000 (Discount of $2380)
    plus tax($720)
    plus NC Tags($48)
    plus Doc($189)
    ($24,960Total O.T.D)
I qualified for College Grad Credit(-$400) so it all comes to $24,560 Total and 6-8wks delivery. When i add it all up, It totals around $250 BELOW Invoice(including Adv fee)....Dealer used exact prices that were given my edmunds for all options....I tried at several other dealers and no one could touch this guys price..... I was just curious about how much other areas are willing to deal....I saw one post from California(I Think) and he said they were going for $700 OVER Invoice(OUCH!!!)....I HAve to complement this disc. group.....it was very helpful through the buying process....Glad you guys talked me out of a frontier and a sporttrac....there is truely NO COMPARISON between them....Dodge come out on top in every catagory....

is the bronze color available in the United states? In the canadian brochure they also do not list the amber color. I am wondering if we have the bronze in canada instead?
  • mrb9mrb9 Member Posts: 25
Yes, bronze is available here.Your color choices here are: Flame Red- Dark Garnet Red Pearl- Black- Bright White- Light Driftwood (Satin Glow)- Medium Bronze Pearl- Amber Fire Pearl (just like Bookitty's)- Forset Green Pearl ( just like Mine !)- Intense Blue Pearl - Patriot Blue Pearl. And thats all of them. hope this helps, What part of Canada are you from. My wife is Canadian. Mrb9
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Sounds as if you did well. I cannot compare, because the equipment does not equate. Plus, I bought an SLT. I paid $125.00 over invoice. I will receive the $500.00 Farm Bureau discount. Do yourself a favor, don't worry unduly about the price you paid, or you might suffer "buyer's remorse". That can take the fun out of the whole process. Good luck, and enjoy.

I ordered my dakota 4x4 on 12-17, it was finished and released from the plant 2-17. It was shipped by rail on 2-24 to Jacksonville, Fl. It arrived at the rail head on 2-28. It had to be shipped by car carrier 75 miles to the dealer, and I have not seen it yet. Nine days seems a little extravagant for such a short trip. Who knows how much longer I must wait... it is killing me. Sold my old truck three weeks ago, not having much fun waiting on my new ride.
  • catnip2377catnip2377 Member Posts: 42
From Vancouver (West Coast). Thats weird because on the brochure they don't list the amber fire pearl but they list all the others... ? probably a mistake i guess. I really like the bronze color... really different and sharp looking.
  • mrb9mrb9 Member Posts: 25
Bronze was my second choice, nice color, but the wife decided she liked the green better. So if my only concession to the QC was the color, well then I will take what I can get. For those who are interested I have some part numbers for Grill guard, tail light guard, and nerf steps from Dee Zee. These are the black "Back Road" products. Mrb9
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
The reason that not all colours (or colors) are in the brochure is that they were not all originally available. Some of the new colors were introduced with the model year - patriot blue for example and were in the brochure, some were to be introduced when available - bronze, amber fire etc. Originally these were scheduled to be available for the official model year launch (October 1), but this soon slipped to start of 2000.

The colors are all in at least some of the dealer literature but expect to see updated brochures with the colors. As far as I am aware there is no difference between the colours available here in Canada and those in the US.

Just an FYI for those of you who are waiting for a truck being shipped to N. Calif. My truck left the Dodge factory on 2/24 and promptly disappeared from DC's status system. I was told it was in the train yard waiting for shipment but no one could tell me anything else. Whenever I called to get status or a car number I was told they were still waiting for a rail car # to be assigned. I envisioned the truck sitting in some dark, lonely corner and forgotten all about. Today I talked to a young lady who called distribution to find out what the hold up was. She found out that, at least for now, DC is not shipping vehicles to Calif via train for the first part of the trip. They apparently truck the vehicle to Kansas City and then put it on a train for the remainder of the trip to Calif. A total of 20 days to get out west. Hopefully if all goes according to plan the truck should arrive at the dealers around 3/15.

All of those prices sound about right,at least to me. For the aluminum black bed rail($180) I paid $130. For the bed liner, I paid the same as you $225. I haven't gotten to the nerf bars yet. As far as the Installation goes $140.00 is pretty good for your "piece of mind". I got lucky, the guy that runs the parts division helped me install everything, right there inside. As busy as he was he pulled my truck right in and we got to work!He didn't charge me a dime. As far as the"sales"running the "parts"(accessories) division I think he is pulling your leg (I could be wrong)the parts guy dealt directly with me. In fact I've seen salesmen in that parts division,Asking for prices!! In fact it was a bug shield he was asking about.Like I said I got lucky with the help with my truck( my wife says It's my charming personality. LOL)You know it might be to your advantage to get to know the parts guys, that's what I did..Plus salesmen don't like to get dirty at all,LOL.
Anyway "rattle on" that what this place is for..

Thanks. I called DC and instead of speaking w/ Ernie, I went through the automated order status check and when the cust. serv. rep. picked up, she was happy to give me the rail car number. Not sure why Ernie wasn't able to give it to me but who cares now. My truck is in the local rail yard awaiting transit to the dealership!!!!!
