As for a Tundra Passing me??....heheheheh..That's a good one!..You funny man!..(BTW..Has any Toyota ever even GONE off road before?)
Eric16....not bashing Indiana at all...Nothing wrong with it!..Enjoy!
I'll simmer down the day I die....only thing I'm simmered about is stating the facts.
Everyone reads my posts and thinks I'm angry?...I laugh my [non-permissible content removed] off while reading and typing here. Takes WAY more than this forum for me to be upset.
You guys (and few gals) haven't even come close to stirring me up. I just speak my opinion Loudly in typed form. Sitting back and shutting up is not for me.
- Tim
BTW, Quadrunner and planejane brought the Tundra into this topic, not me.
I wanted to know how Toyota gets away with such false advertising on national television.
Anyone got an answer?
Why would I not acknowledge Ivan?
OK....1 Toileta has been off road modified....any stock ones? Why would I follow an American Wanna be anyway?
The false advertising is a desperate attempt to enter a market they know they have no chance in or have never been a player in.
Tim
I have ordered a Tundra(on 7/3/99) and I am still awaiting delivery. This forum helps me kill a little time waiting for my truck(you call it a piece of crap, I believe) to arrive. Please let me stay and play for a few more days. I'll just read the posts and keep quiet...at least I'll try. I am interested in opinions of all trucks. You never know, my Tundra may turn out to actually be a piece of crap and I'll have to buy something else. Enjoy your trucks.
Todd
This is all for fun and games while we all wait for our trucks.
There are several different choices out there for several different people. You know my Patriotic theory now...so that's that! If you choose a different path...well...uhh...so be it!(I guess)
Perhaps I can be a terror and scare you away from Imports?..hehehhee
Enjoy
Tim
They do have a nice truck factory in Fort Wayne though, building, no...not Tundras.
I especially like the one about "Minnie Silverado". LOL!! This is so cool.
I wish Chevy would print the new model brochures on our truck, want to see it bad. At least they could update their website. Geez...
Do you think it suits me?
Glad someone feels they can participate more instead of just reading all the time.(just from one persons posts)
Wonder how many hundreds or thousands of others have never left a post?
Wendy Whiner??...where did that come from?
..I prefer Moaners....(That was bad..I know)
- Tim
planejane is right. Your posts are quite entertaining. I enjoy yours and that Dave40 character.
Quadrunner,
I thought Tim's remark about owning a Dodge before the Tundra was a low shot but now you have to bring Chelsea into it?! Ouch! What did I ever to do you guys?
Clowns with a shiny truck tells me one thing:poser.
..Wonder what that could mean?
Don't you remember Saturday Night Live? When it was good? You know, the skit: Doug and Wendy Whiner, they just use to whine... well, you had to have been there, does anyone remember Todd and Lisa Loobner? Todd (Bill Murray) would always tell Lisa (Gilda Radner)that she was as flat as a pancake. and he would give her "noogies" all the time. ANYBODY REMEMBER?
I bet they all drove a Chevy. (Yeah, baby Yeah - Shagadelic)- Now somebody is going to post what they REALLY drove... :-}
Let's keep this debate on a roll!!
My '92 S10 Blazer 4x4 has been to hell and back, it's been 4-wheelin up in the north woods (Wisconsin) back roads, climbed up some major hills, hauled lumber, carried rebar on top, been where most vehicles would be stuck and spinning (deep mud and snow - never got stuck), basically it has been put to the test. It has 207,000 miles and its still going strong.
Everyone speaks from experience and preferences - Chevy makes a good truck. And the cooling system, my truck runs real cool in all conditions. My truck - its been very very good to us! The new truck will go through the same rugged routine! We won't baby it or keep it polished, and we know it is a solid piece of machinery that will last many years through.
Cindy
I was chasing skirts back then though....
- Tim
What good is a truck that is not reliable?
you can praise or defame any vehicle you choose. But... Keep it outta the "Yo Momma's," or I'll have to shut this topic down for a week or so to let y'awl cool off.
Lose the profanity. If it won't go on the 6:00 news, it won't go here. This is a place for CIVIL discourse, as per the Participent's Agreement.

Let's clean ourselves up and put the boxing gloves back on!
Round 14!!!!
- Tim
My Dodge and three horse trailer with living quarters, air, generator, etc. weighs about 19000.
I have a client with a double deck livestock trailer whose GCW is 40,000 lbs. With no insult intended for Chevy, I must say that the 6.0 is not up to that kind of task. The 6.5 turbo-diesel is even more poorly suited to do that kind of work.
If you want a truck to do what actually most trucks that a sold are intended to do, buy a Chevy. If you have real work to do, I don't think they are up to the job.
Since trucks have become so popular, Mr and Mrs Suburb think they need a truck. For them I would have a hard time making a case that the Dodge would be better. For me and the people who really work a truck, the offerings from General Motors leave something to be desired.
Chevrolet and Ford have been doing WAY more work around the country and on Farms.etc for many more years than Dodge. Show me ANY dodge on the road ANY where that is a Pre-94 Model?!
Those may be the only ones that actually are built for the long run?
- Tim
Holy cow is that Boring??!!
Pretty Darn Ugly.
If that is what style is all about....Yikes!
Glad my Chevrloet will have so much more less style than a Dodge.(there is a God!)
Similar in small ways to the 70's trucks..chevy is..but VERY different. Dodge needed a complete "don't look like a dodge" re-style...They were selling like what..50-100 a year? Chevrolet will always look like Chevrolet....They had several cartoon Jetson style designs...but instead of Forcing the Buyers (the only people that matter here) to buy what GM wants....they let the Buyers pick what the Chevrolet should look like - A Real Truck!
Ever open a quad cab?...with the back door all the way open..the damn thing only swings about 1/2-2/3 open!..I could barely squeeze between the front seat and the opened door.(and I'm not that wide)
This debate could go on forever...as Ford and Chevy have been for decades.
Ford and Chevy have Proven Reliability..and Dodge?..well??.....uhh.....They have nothing to base reliability on due to the fact that no old Dodges are out there!
Cindy and me will buy the real truck. The rest of you can buy the Pretty Trucks to go to the mall in.
I liked the 95 type style ford..and the current Super Duty (would never buy one). But that darn current F-150 is just too darn ugly!
Fore your comments back at me now....I'm still buying THE Truck - Chevrolet.
- Tim
I see this Topic is the 3rd most posted on Edmunds!
Keep fighting boys!!
We can be number one!!!...(Just like Chevrolet)
Thats not an opinion like styling is, that's a fact.
His pretty boy, girly truck is an embarrassment.
You can argue till the cows come home which truck looks the best, it't only somebodys opinion(though rather an important one I must admit, it does sell trucks). Maybe thats one reason why Dodge has been setting sales records.
As for there being no old Dodges out there, you just aren't talking to the right people. Go where the heavy towing is and you will find plenty of pre-94 Dodge Cummins trucks. The people may not be happy with the way they ride, however the guy that bought my 92 Cummins Club Cab 3500 Daully swears it rides better than the 3/4 ton Ford that he had been driving.
It may not sound like it by my response, but I have no problem with Chevy trucks. I have a good friend that tows his horses with one. He just knows that he can't keep up.
Feedguru1 - do you mean MY silence?...I can't be here all the time?!....Dodge setting sales records?...versus themselves..yeah...real easy to be 5 times ahead..when you never sold squat!..LOL!!!
Funny nobody told me what the towing of a gas V-8 is for Dodge...must be pretty sad....Like the whole truck!
- Tim
...My truck will be here soon..so I won't be around to keep you guys on your feet as much....so sad....
..Why does everybody want me to jump into other catagories?....I must post some damn good discussions?
- Tim
....I think you have confirmed my point..
Thanks
- Tim
BUTT................ ;-)
I must say, when I took the '99 - 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 for a test ride, being a Chevy person my entire life, I felt an odd feeling, uncomfortable and just not right! The interior - well, a total bore! The F250, well, it was so brand new they still had the plastic stuck to the hood - it rode like crap with no weight in it, very bouncy - big and like driving a semi - to me! And the way it sounded when I accelerated... couldn't tell if it was brand new or 5 years old. Its got that "sound". I may not be a truck expert, but Chevy fit "lllllike a glove", it was smooth, quiet, good handling, stylish, quick, I could go on and on. The Silverado looks so good to me, I can't stop staring at it. I can't wait to have mine.
That is my opinion. But who am I?
The REAL truck is on it's way!
"It took a surgeon 2 hours just to get the smile off his face!" - Top Secret
There is a big business here in used chevy bodies coming in from the southwest with no rust on them.
My 75 3/4 ton 4X4 club cab has a little rust, not much, it runs great and I have no plans to replace it. I use it primarily as my farm truck. My 92 Dakota has 206,000 mi with no major repairs. I use it every day as my work truck. I am in the livestock feed business. It spends lots of time on unpaved roads.
I really don't mind defending Dodge trucks,(I am a converted Ford driver). I still believe that if you don't have really hard work to do a Chevy will be very satisfactory, however, if you tow heavy loads, 20,000 to 40,000 Gross Combination Weight, the 6.5 turbo-diesel and the 6.0 aren't up to the job. Maybe we don't even have an argument here. I haven't heard you defend the towing ability of the Chevy, and you haven't heard me say anything bad about the light duty use of the Chevy except for the rust problem which hopfully they have corrected.
As for towing?
What's Dodge's max for a Gas V-8?..Nobody wants to answer this one...bet it ain't 10,500 As farr as the deisel goes...Not my catagory. I know they are loud and smell like crap! 10,500 is way fine for me...as well as 99.99% of the rest of the Public. We could get into V-10's and Diesels...But I have no interest in that.
perhaps Dodge does have some towing edge with a V-10 or Diesel?....dunno...Too bad it can't stop or rely on a dependable drivetrain.
As farr as Dodges on farms here and in northern Michigan...I have yet to see one. All the farmers use Ford and Chevy....
So since you haven't said any bad about Light Duty use Chevrolets (even though it's an HD)..I won't slam HD Dodges...(maybe)
But i still say that Performance and Dodge have never had anything to do with each other. Seems their only decent engine is made by someone else?
- Tim
Don't have much input on Diesels.
Admit that Dodge V-8's are very piss poor..and we can continue from there....
I drove a 1971 Dodge Demon that ate 396 Camaros for lunch. Dodge has a long history of building great performance cars, Hemi Challengers, Super Bees, Hemi-powered top fuel dragsters to name just a few.
As for the 6.0 being the best because is has the most horsepower, my Spirit R/T was a 2.2 liter that made 224 HP. Lots of horsepower, but probably now a very good truck engine.
Being a Ford man at the time I thought it was pretty neat that Ford didn't lose a 500 mi NASCAR race in 1964. It wasn't until just recently that I found out that the Dodge Hemi was banned that year.
The Chevy small block has been and continues to be a great engine. Seems like some of you people that bleed bow ties when you are cut forget that there are other good engines out there too. Dodge has built, and continues to build some very good engines.
The Hemi??..oh boy!!..Now there is a massed produced engine!..kinda like the wedge!
..as i said..Dodge and performance have never gone together.
I got a new truck to gab about and my favorite beer to drink....have fun!
- Tim
The REAL Chevrolet truck is going to pass everything ....except one thing....The Gas Stations...(who cares)(mpg has never been a concern of mine since the day I started driving)
Tim
I agree with your opinion about halfway, but you're saying Chevy's small engine can't tow with the Cummins or Fords.
Well, duh!
compare apples to apples. The 6.0 is not made to tow 20,000#s. You are the only one saying that! chevy still makes the 454, and will tow with or out-tow any Dodge or Ford v10. it will definitely get better mileage than ford or Dodge big blocks. the 6.0 is the largest engine available in Chevy's LIGHT DUTY line. you can still get the 3/4 and 1 ton chevy's with the 454 or 6.5. No, the 6.5 won't pull with the Cummins, but at 430 ftlbs, it ain't bad. and the 454 has as much hp and just little less torque than dodge's v10.
Sorry, but chevy does make a truck that can keep up. Dad has a '99 ton and a half Chevy with 454. 300 hp, 410 ft lb torque, in a 14000# truck, will run with any powerstroke similarly equipped. Only gets about 10mpg, but it costs $5000 less than a powerstroke, and has maintenance req's that Stevie Wonder could perform by himself.
Next year, GM will have the "big" trucks out, new big gas, 2 new diesel options (rumored, 1 for sure).
I agree with you on Dodge's motor reliability. They've always had long lasting motors with good power and poor mileage. BUT: every "old" dodge I've ever seen died on the ranch or industry that tried to actually work it--be it tranny failures, catastrophic electical failure, brakes, frame, springs, you name it, i've seen it go wrong on the 80's early 90's Dodge trucks.
We all must not know what we are talking about...cuz old guru MUST be right!!???
Dodge is King!...(of what??..I have no idea)
...Performance (and reliability) and Dodge have nothing to do with each other...
- Tim
