    Tim:

Yes, I used the area to the right of the climate controls to mount the switch. Let me correct that: the place that installed the window cut a hole too big for the switch then tried to glue it in placxe and got glue all over the panel. I then bought a new piece (it's only $2.50 ... wow) and installed it RIGHT.

The area has 3 sections. Upper has one blank (which is actually part of the housing) where the power slider switch is located. Bottom right has the key switch to turn off the passenger air bag, and the bottom left is where I mounted the switch to turn on and off the subwoofer.

Can't tell you if the heated mirrors still work ... I haven't had any need to use them. I'm still wondering about the auto dim part of that...

I still don't think the outside mirrors dim.? As for testing them...hit the button and feel them.

Damn...you have any way of shooting some pics of the power slider and the switch set up?

I'm getting the slider for sure and have already thought about a Sub. Did you just tie it into the current Radio? I like the radio so far...

I am looking for some insight regarding Chevy trucks, I heard from two different sources - 1500
miles apart that Chevy was going to introduce a
new truck every 28 days? Seems Hard to believe - One source was a dealership in Mi., Other was in
Texas, I sure am interested in any details if true?

If you want old, I'll be 71 next month and I have a 60 day old Z-71. Is that being an optimist or a nut?
  • somales1somales1 Member Posts: 22
you kids pipe down, I'll be 41 this fall. G.M says employees and family can't order a silverado because demand is to high. savings if you order is 18% off MSRP////15.5% off MSRP if you buy from dealer stock. selection on the lot sucks and they cost more, gotta wait till they lift the restriction. I can see it now, DarkCarmine Red over Pewter 1500 ex cab, Graphite cloth, Dark glass, Rear slider, Z85, Towing package, Locking differential, LS, 5300 aaaaaAAAAAAgggggGGGGhhhhhhhh sorry it just got away from me. P.S. 4*4 gotta have it!!!!

thought I'd post some pics (redirect me to a response # if I should post somewhere else please) of the Rhino liner, sprayed in yesterday. I can't yet answer how it holds up, but I do like what I see so far!

That's a nice black beauty. I saved your 1st photo as my Win98 wallpaper. I'll have to look at that until my gold 1500 ext. cab arrives. I have an order that my dealer says is confirmed - but no build date yet.
I'm getting an LS, and optioned the rear def./heated mirrors. I live in New Hampshire, and I'm sure to use them (icestorm or sticky snow buildup).
If you didn't have warranty issues, I saw on Tirerack that there are 18" wheel/tire packages for the Silverados. Now those would be teats!

No, dude. I got MEDIUM CHARCOAL GREY METALLIC - Ever seen them on the road? A beaut. I really wanted pewter (even though everyone has 'em), but hubbie said, grey. Which, I don't mind so I agreed.

Saw only a few that color, and it looks real awesome. Especially!in the sun. Then the 4x4 sticker made them look nicer, really! I know you don't like them (sticker).

Aw, geezz you're just a baby. 32 - you sure are a spunky 32. No, we're not old.

    JIMCARR: 71 with a Z71
    Thats pretty neat.

Tim: I'll get a picture to you.

Re: Self-dimming mirrors: the sales literature, Chevy web site and Kelly Blue Book all state that the outside rearview mirrors auto-dim. Even my salesman said so. But no one knows how/why/when or really, IF. I personally think it was a typo that got all over the place, but I want to know how to verify it. It would be a cool feature (and it may actually be working ...

i'v been looking at a year 2000 lt pewter metallic...does anyone know how that color holds up...also,has anyone heard if chevy will EVER have a four door pick-em-up?
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
According to the owner of the paint shop (that I have seen way too often lately ... don't ask) the new metallics with clear coat are actually good, and will hold up years longer than anything available previously. He says it doesn't matter what color you choose any more.

    Re: 4th Door
After using my third door in a parking lot, I personally think the 4th door isn't worth worrying about. It is such a pain in a crowded lot to open the front door, open the back, make sure you can close one so you can get by and then open again without hitting the other ... You're better off making sure you have a seat that will easily move forward so you can get to the back seat easier. Otherwise you might as well pull out of the parking space, and by then the third door is as good as the 4th.

Just my opinion (and I value it highly ...)

have they solved the 40 m.p.h. vibration yet? or are the new trucks still doing it.?
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
They must have fixed the "40 MPH vibration" that I never heard of before. Mine doesn't do it. You sure you're not confusing this topic with the Tundra? They seem to vibrate and rattle a lot.

Tim: The motor for the window mounts under the rear seat on the back wall. You barely notice it. It connects to (and opens and closes) the window with a cable that is also barely noticable.

Give me a couple days. I'll get pictures of that too.

    Richard
  • reeferreefer Member Posts: 37
The 40mph vibration you refer to is the "driveline growl" problem I believe. My truck had it as did many others. A re-flash of the computer solved the problem.

Thanks. I finally located the 2000 prices on Edmunds. They were hidden alright, I had to go to the 1999 page for my model, then manually change 1999 to 2000 in the URL. The good news is the invoice increased only $163 base and $21 for two-tone. I'm glad I held out for tthe 2000.

    sbreen,

Have you been following Topic 252. They might be interested in your pictures. The Rhino looks great! I'm still undecided what to get.

    Age? What's all the talk of old from you 30-somethigs? I can't match 71 though, I'm a mere 54.

    Tim,
Don't worry, sounds like you and the wife are some lovebirds, like me and my hubbie. I hope soon we can figure out all the useful things to do in the ROOMY extended cab. I know my doggy will love it back there, however! I will not let him sit on the seat, I will have it folded up.

How flush does the seat sit when you put it up?? Was wondering cause someone mentioned Ford (ouch) ext cab seat folds more flush.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Ford does fit more flush....Cuz it's seat is about 6 inches deep!...Pure Joke!

The chevy is still kinda fat when folded up...but you have a boat load of room....even more when the front seats are forward.

lemme know if you run out of Ideas on what to do back there.

    Sbreen,

Nice rhino pics....what you gonna do for top rail protecton?

I had to get a few loads of 21AA Crushed Lime stone today for a walkway foundation that will be driven on. Brand new 3/4 ton in the drive to use...but no bed liner yet! Had to use the old 1/2 ton. At about 2800 lbs a yard..she was a saggin'!

This crap is harsh...and when they dump it in...I'm sure a spray in will keep it from scratchin'....but what about denting under the lining? I thought about under the rail spray in..and chrome tube type rails for the top...but when I get loads like this dumped in...tubes are not gonna protect.
Z71 said he saw after market plastic type rail liners....anybody see these anywhere?

    lemme know

I have to get something in there soon. I'd like to convert from drop ins to spray ins....but just don't know if they cut the mustard or not?

I seem to have developed a rattle in the driver's side door that is especially noticable when the (power) window is down. I live on a dirt road with lots of washboard which seems to exacerbate the noise. Has anybody dealt with this, or am I making much ado about nothing?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Perhaps you are hearing the window itself rattling in the door when it's down?

    hear it when it's up??

Somales1 you stated G.M. was not taking orders from G.M. employees and familys. I placed an order on June 18, 1999 for a GMC Sierra pickup. I just received an order #. Chevy Silverados may be different but I suggest you call other dealers before you buy off the lot.
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
are You a GM employee or family member?
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
Got 19.5 MPG today driving to Santa Ynez (near Santa Barbara) and back from San Pedro. Also included a little city driving as well as some traffic on the freeway. Wasn't driving for mileage overall. Not bad for a 5.3 with 3.73 gears. Now if I could just break 20 for once, then I'll never check it again ...

  • nuwonuwo Member Posts: 63
Thanks Dave40! One other question. Is it something that can wait until my next oil change, or will it get progressively worse?
  • riccirriccir Member Posts: 16
Had exact same problem....was under tightened window frame track bolts (was told that these are tightened at the factory by robotics, and that they aren't tightened enough)....Dealer fixed with no problems.

What turnip truck did you fall off of?

I will admit - Chevy trucks are still better than any Toyota Tundra.

As for cars, Honda beats the crap out of GM. I have never had to take any honda in for maintenance every few hundred miles and spend $300.00. If you know anything about cars all you have to do is inspections. Some Hondas have to have valve adjustments but if you have a '98 or newer that is not a problem.

Every Honda I have had has made it past 100k without a mechanical problem. You can't say that if you own a GM car.

Most hondas are more american made then a lot of the GM cars.

As for pickup - my 99 Accord EX-V6 Coupe goes 0-60 in 7.0 seconds and is not speed limited at 102 like most GM cars, it will hit 135 easy!

Come up to the 90s, your stuck in the early 80s!
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
135 in an accord??..Yikes...there is one scary thought.

    You run along now...

....in your Rice Burner and throw your money Overseas. (where the profit goes)

Perhaps you should just MOVE there?..if not already?

    >You can't say that if you own a GM car<

I can. And I have the service and maintenance records to prove it.

Honda owners think they are so special when their cars go 100,000 miles without mechanical problems. Personally I am not impressed. I think this comes from the fact that early Hondas never made it past 70,000 miles that owners are so amazed when they go 100,000 miles. Kepp in mind that a Honda, like ALL Japanese cars, is designed to last exactly FIVE years. Nothing more, nothing less. Taxes on older cars in Japan makes them that way. There are few cars older than five years old in Japan.

I have always gone 200,000+ in my Chevys with no or few problems. AND I didn't have to change the timing belt and water pump at 90,000 miles like ALL Hondas.

I also didn't have to turn the rotors ON THE CAR when I change brake pads. And you had to adjust valves until 1998? Wow, Honda finally made it into the 1950s with THAT advance.

My wife grew up on Hondas. She owned two Integras while we were dating. I know ALL about Hondas and their service, as well as their supposed reliability. It's a lie. You can't imagine the savings we have made since selling the last Integra. In fact, just before we sold the last Integra, we had to replace a relay that controls the rear window defogger. A $200 part!!!!!

In addition, the cars have such thin sheetmetal, I wouldn't EVER want to be in an accident with one.

I do ALL my own service. I bet you don't. I find that the LESS people know about cars (and engineering in general) the more likely they are to buy Honda and Toyota. This guy proves it.

Keep your Hondas. You deserve them. I demand something far better.

"I have always gone 200,000+ in my Chevys with no or few problems" SURE YOU HAVE!!!!

    rhinnc,
Maybe rwagoner can give you some advice with your Silverado. I wish he could have helped me get past 60,000 miles on my 1995 Blazer before needing a total transmission rebuild.

    Hello,

Local dealer finally got about 6 Z-71's (2000 models). One problem, they all have the small (245) tires. Dealer has about a dozen '99 models, all with the 265's. I prefer the larger size tires and want a 2000 model. I wonder if they'd put 265's on it for me. I'll call tomorrow to ask why their incoming 2000's have the smaller tires. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

    top rail protection w/ Rhino
a friend has a SuperDuty with a Rhino and the F250 comes with top rail protectors stock, so I decided to look around for something similar. Hopefully I can find something to match the stock tailgate protector style.

    goodyears
My 2K LS1500 came with these, and they are a bit bouncy (not too bad though), esp over slab concrete. I'm thinking about ditching these in favor of the Michelins. Will post ya on results.

I'm well satisfied with this truck.

    Hey Guys,
What happened to my truck? I don't have any problems with my 2000, regular cab, 5.3, with sportside. (That's a lie, I have a problem keeping under the speed limits!)

My truck is for fun and for hauling groceries and camping equipment, and I am trying to decide on a box liner and cover. What's available that won't hurt the beauty of this beast?

I am 58 and this truck roles in to one all the good things I have seen in trucks. Specially, love those rear fenders.

I saw a 2000 Silverado brochure and the 6.0L engine still has the same ratings as it did in '99. Apparently the kelly blue book web page that some people have been looking at was wrong - it doesn't have 325 horses for '00 after all. 4.8 & 5.3 got 15 more hp
  • somales1somales1 Member Posts: 22
    what engine is stock on 3/4 ton 4.8 5.3 6.0 ????
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
As I said, the less someone knows about cars, the more likely they are to buy Honda and Toyota.

Keep your Hondas. Be impressed when they "make it" to 100,000 miles. Wow. I'm convinced.

How many AC compressors did you go through? Oh, yeah, none, since Honda ACs don't get cold from day one. Just drive really safe, since tin foil gets really crushed in accidents.

Took my truck to the dealer today (see my previous post about details of what I have) and he was the bearer of bad news. My "new" truck with less than 650 miles on it will have to have the transmission removed to see where the oil is leaking. While it was in the air, several mechanics came over to assist the service advisor in determining what should be done. I don't know if the comments of "man, this will be the first one of those we tackle, and I really am interested to see what's changed" are comforting. Even the sales manager came in and offered his condolences, assuring me that they will fix it right up. Anyway they squirted some GM lubricant on the spring shackles and cab mounts trying to silence the squeak. Pretty neat stuff, when they sprayed it on it looked like lube was going to make a mess, but most of it appeared to evaporate after spraying it. End result: still squeaks. Oh well. As far as the 65MPH vibration noticeable in the seats, he assured me that when they yank the transmission out they will balance the tires.

Don't have a warm and fuzzy felling about this folks. I mean I really do like this truck and am remaining optimistic, however, I am documenting all conversation and occurences about this truck with the dealer. North Carolina does have a very good attorney general and a mighty fine lemon law. Dont wan't to resort to using it, and really hope I don't have to, but ya never know.

It really is impressive whenever you have 4 of what the service manager calls his best mechanics discussing what they have to do. They truley seemed concerned.

    Will keep ya'll posted.

    The 2500 series has either a 5.3 liter or a 6.0 liter engine as standard, depending on GVWR. 7200GVWR gets a 5.3, 8600GVWR gets a 6.0.

16 AUGUST 1999. I ORDERED MY NEW 99 SILVERADO LS ,FULL CAB .SHORT BED,SPORTSIDE, ON JANUARY ,99 BY THE 1ST WEEK OF JUNE I KNEW THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO GET IT, THE DEALER NEVER CALL ME, THE ORDER WAS CANCELLED DUE TO AN OPTION THEY WERE HAVING TROUBLE WITH "ZX3" SMOOTH RIDE BY DELPHI/GM. I HAD TO RE-ORDER AGAIN ,I FINALLY GOT A BUILD DATE OF AUG,23RD @FORTHWAYNE I. I HOPE I GET MY TRUCK BY THE END OF SEPT. GM'S ORDERING SYSTEM LEAVES OUT A LOT TO BE DESIRED, I BLAME THE DEALER FOR NOT INFORMING ME THAT THAT OPTION WOULD CANCELL THE ORDER,AS TO THE ORDERS BEING FILLED SLOW,I BLAME THE STRIKE,HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERY SINGLE MINUTE A TRUCK ROLLS OUT RUNNING , THE TOTAL ASSEMBLY TIME IS APPROX 33 HOURS,THE "TOTAL" LENGTH OF THE ASSY LINE IS FIVE (5) MILES.I JUST HOPE THAT GM HAS "IRON OUT" SOME OF THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ, I'M SOMEWHAT WORRIED ABOUT THIS NEW "GMT 800" TRUCK PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY CHANGED TOO MANY THINGS AT ONCEPROBABLY THE 3 SECTION FRAME BOTHERS ME THE MOST. DAN .

    1)See post #220

2)I have never owned a Honda(& never said I did).
I never claimed Hondas were superior to any other vehicle. Sometimes one has to question certain comments. You stating that your Chevys have gone 200,000+ miles with NO or few problems seems absurd. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about the "few" problems(maybe people can differ on the definition of a "few") but to say you have had NO problems at over 200,000 miles stretches the imagination. However, I'll take you at your word and congratulate you on being one of the most fortunate vehicle owners ever. May your good fortune continue.
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
I apologize. I had you confused with the one who asked what turnip truck I had fallen off of. He said he owned an Accord. Sorry for the confusion ... and for snapping.

I agree ... "few" can be relative. But in general, I have had far fewer problems per vehicle than my wife's former Hondas/Acuras and her family's Hondas/Acuras and Lexus. In addition, maintenance costs are lower (due in part because I can actually do most of the service, while parts prices tend to be much lower.

Tim: I don't have the pictures yet.

    All: Love that 5.3 acceleration!

Thanks. I shouldn't have typed anything anyway. I have no way of knowing what kind of reliability you've had with your vehicles. I applaud anyone who takes care of their trucks/cars. I see so many who don't and it makes me ill. I hope your new(I'm assuming it's new) GM lasts a long time.
By the way, if you were to ever fall off a turnip truck, I hope it's not a Dodge.
