Nice picture! Pretty truck! Must disagree with you about the ride quality though. Stiff springs, skinny shocks = Bouncy!

Perhaps sometime soon I may put the 46MM shocks on?

    Have to wait and see.

Has anyone seen a 2000 2WD LS Ext Cab with Manual Bucket Seats that have the "Cushion Tilt" and "Easy Entry" feature? (Mine does not) I also noticed there's no "lock tab" on the tail gate, nor any mention of it in the manual. Has GM discontinued this?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I think your showing off ur truck to much. Your making other people like me jealous. hahaha keep showing it off the pics are great id be doing the same thing and next yr u can bet you bottom dollar i will be. I hope u do more than take pic of your truck and u actually drive it around and show it off to your city.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Hey MG they have a new tailgate protector for 2000? please dont say yes i liked the tailgate protector for the 99's thats the first thing that impressed me about the new trucks. I think my day is ruined now. Did u get any type of bedliner for ur truck? anyone have the spray in thats what i plan on getting let me know how it is.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I'm not trying to show off...just let others see as well. Some areas have nothing to look at besides a brochure.
    Dave40,
You gotta speed that puppy up boss....I'm posting pics this way so people can see them. it's taking like 15-20 minutes to load the entire page. Gotta be a better way somehow. Good idea though.

    Ryanbab,
Look up a few posts...the newer style tailgate protector(at least what Mine came with) is in my last few pics. It's cleaner...but I kinda like the old one. Of course I show it off around here.....can't wait to show it the off pavement stuff soon too!

    Ryan,
NO bedliner yet. I haven't heard from anyone if the spray in type can take real abuse or not? I'm thinking that maybe they are just a disco type option? Hope not. I'm steering towards drop in under the rail with some kinds of rail protectors.

Shot the window out on the driver side door, with BB or pellet. Safety glass cracked into hundreds of pieces, but stayed intact. I called the Chevy dealer. They don't have the glass, say it's on backorder, no firm delivery date. Farmers Insurance is very helpful, and is looking for a glass shop that has it. Will keep you posted...........................................................................................
Harmon Auto Glass found the piece, making appointment now. Done. 9:00 am tomorrow.

That new tailgate protector looks just like the one on my 99 base model. No spoiler, just a wrap around piece.

BTW, all the black trim pieces are why I think a dark color looks much better than a light color on these trucks. I have charcoal metallic and I love it.

My 3/4 reg cab longbed has order # and production week of Sept 6. Was ordered July 8 with most all options. All accepted except cast alum rims.

Has anyone used the tracrac system?

Dealer said optional mirror with temp and compass is now standard on LT. I hope he is right.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Hey man im sorry to hear about ur window really. I cant even imagine what id do to the person who did that to my new truck all i have to say is there wold be consequences. A guy i work with has a 99 gmc slt black and someone took a key to the pasenger side and tailgate. I couldnt believe it i dont understand it people have no respect for others properties. I hope u catch those u know whats and that u get ur window fixes asap. Ok for the tailgate protector. IM so pissed i really liked the old one i seen the new one on ur pic MG its nice but the old big one was awesome. MG im only messing with u about the pics keep posting them its a gorgeous truck. Ill have mine on next fall for u (sept 2000) and u can look at mine hahaha. Dont know which color yet i need help with this thats only option i dont have picked out yet. I havent decided upon indigo blue or charchol grey. Is indigo blue hard to keep up like black? How bout the grey? At first i wanted silver but every other trruck is silver nowadays. Ok next question anyone put on nerf bars yet? Did you do em urself or have them put on by a pro? I heard there are predrilled holes to install? Anyone know? thanks
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Maybe the slim gate protector comes on 3/4's and the fancy one on 1/2's? Dunno....I'm happy with the one I got.

Yes the compass/temp mirror is standard on an LT. Mine came with it.

    Nerf bars:
I want a set also....but don't want them to hang down too far. they are no biggee to install. I hear suburbans come with nuts welded in to the frames now for GM accessories. all you do with nerf bars are hold them in place and drill a hole!....put in bolts..and walahh! I've been paying attention to trucks on the road more to see what I like for bars. Some of the slimmer running boards are OK too. But I think Nerf bars are the way for me

    Good Luck

    Dan:

No, I'm not G. Richard Wagoner. But I did see his house when I visited my friend back in Michigan a few years ago.

My Chevy history dates back to my grandfather and 1926. My grandfather used to work in the service department of Chevy dealers in Missouri and later San Pedro, California. I still have some stuff in may garage that my grandfather used to use to service the cars. I sent G. Richard a list of all the Chevys my family has owned throughout the years (through my friend who does know him), and he sent back a Chevy flashlight and pocket knife.

I think we have owned every TYPE of Chevy ever made (not every model), including a '56 Nomad, 61 Corvair, '72 Vega (now THERE'S a car ...) ... I forget the exact number. My dad still wants to find and restore a '32 coupe -- HIS first car.

I just talked to the local dealer. According to the General Manager, they will be building trucks with the 4th door option in feb or march of 2000. They can start taking orders in Mid-November. Anyone else heard this?

  • pathomppathomp Member Posts: 25
I liked the 99 tailgate protector! Sorry they changed it. First I hear the 325hp is a mistake, now this, what next? haha. I guess I will still accept my order when it comes in.

Undecided what color to get? My opinion: Get a dark color. At least it looks good when you wash it. ...Actually all the Silverado/Sierra colors look great--its just a matter of preference.
  • kernickkernick Member Posts: 4,072
Hope this isn't a repost. I don't know where the last 1 disappeared to.
Quadrunner look at it this way - a new window and it's brand new again. If you had taken a hit in a body panel, it'd never be the same again - the paint wouldn't exactly match or there would be some kind of imperfection.
    LOL.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
You are both so right. I feel so sorry for that guy who had his side and tailgate keyed. That's really vicious. I told the deputy I was really glad it wasn't a body panel too. He was really cool, by the way. He just bought a Super Duty Crew Cab with the Navistar diesel, so we talked about trucks far too long, as far as the taxpayer is concerned. Thanks for the kind words, knew I could get a little support therapy here. Not the first time I've been victimized by criminal mischief.

What was actually even more of a bummer was that my wife backed my Blazer into the corner of a brick building this morning, (same day) and creased the bumper. She didn't tell me about it. I asked her if my brother borrowed the truck over the weekend (I was gone), she asked why, and I said well because it was hit. She said she did it, which surprised me since she usually comes forward and tells me. But whatever, windows, bumpers, in the larger scheme of things, they are just property, and can be replaced. The ones we love, we must cherish for each day we have them, because they can't be replaced.

One more thought. If you ever take a BB in the glass, remember to do what I forgot to...Don't slam the door. You can guess what happened next. Glad I got the picture first.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
I'm not sure, but I think the tailgate protector has always been thin on the 2500. Have they changed it on the '00 1500?

The indigo blue and charcoal are both high maintenance colors, along with black, but they are stunning, drop-dead gorgeous.

My Lt. Pewter looks the same whether clean or dirty. But you're right. With so many, I thought no one would notice. Must look good through a rifle sight!
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
Does anyone know anything about the contents theft alarm that comes with the LS / LT model? Is it like a typical alarm where if someone touched the vehicle (or shot it with a BB gun) would if go off? What's it all about?

Sorry to hear about the window Quad, where I live no one has a nice vehicle - so when I take possession of my truck and leave it parked outside, I was wondering if someone keyed it (which I would not be surprised, pissed but not surprised) if the alarm would go off so when we catch them in the act we could go out there and shoot them in the [non-permissible content removed].

My salesman told me orders would be accepted in October with building starting in November for the 4th door. But this was about 4 weeks ago. We are to get together in September to finalize an order. I wouldn't be surprised if schedules change 10 times between now and then. Cheverolet doesn't seem to have gotten their act together yet since the strike. About the time they do get going another strike will occur. Do you think they were giving you strait scope or trying to get you to buy a 3 door only? ........ Rich
  • mportermporter Member Posts: 11
After NINE weeks GM finally picked up my order!!! Dealer called yesterday to let me know if I took off the Alum wheels (PYO) they might accept the order. I said OK (grudgingly). He called back and left a message 30 min later to say they picked it up. Got the 3/4 Ton Ext cab SB 4X4 with auto, autotrac, trailering, Locker, 3.73, firm ride, LS package. Would have gone LT but I like the little woman sitting next to me and leather in Arizona Is rough! I've got four things on the wheels list and it was the alum wheels that was holding it up. Man I liked those wheels too!!

planejane: alarm only sounds if a door(glass broke, lock jimmy'ed) is opened after being activated to my understanding, no motion sensor.

Rich, I think they were honest, he had the General Manager looking it up in the computer to confirm availability when I asked him. I've told him I would like to order the Chevy, but I want the forth door option and have considered Dodge because of that. (I've already ruled that out, but he does not need to know that). I was worried yesterday, I spoke to someone else (a leasing company we do business with that said he would do anything for $49.00 over invoice) - he said there are not changes for the silverado and no 4th door option. So I called the dealer to find out for sure.

  • RichinKsRichinKs Member Posts: 412
I was at a second dealer at about the same time. He showed me on the computer screen where it said the 4th door was to be available in November. But what does that really mean? Availible to order or available to build? ..... Rich
  • RichinKsRichinKs Member Posts: 412
If it were orderable in October, 1st builds in November, I would expect first deliveries not to be before mid January. That would be very optimistic. So maybe what your dealer said isn't so far off from what I heard. ...... Rich

Wow, 120 posts during the week I was gone to Florida.
GWR - trailer harness plugs in to a port that is covered by a plastic cover that sits down by the parking brake. The port is near the upper left corner (actually one step to the right of the upper left corner) of this convience center. I didn't need the fuse as one was already in my fuse box for the trailer wiring.

Tenkosha has a detailed description of all this in recent inserts in their new brake controllers. Tenkosha is based in Wisconson I think and would probably send you their guide. The guide came in my "sentinal" model controller. The folks at the dealership don't have a clue.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Cindy, the theft alarm only works when the door is opened. If someone smashed a window, reached inside to grab a purse or something, it would not go off unless they opened a door.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Decent installation, a few of the usual grease smudges along the door panel. Panel fits up snug on the door, operates correctly. The replacement glass was PPG. The factory oem was LOF. They appear identical, solar tint matches. I cranked up some bass and volume on the stereo, no speaker rattles or problems.

The bill to Farmers Insurance was $279, against which they collected a $100 deductible from me. I had a glass replacement rider on my policy. Good, because my comprehensive deductible I think is around $1,000 otherwise. They charged labor on the invoice for 1.7 hours, even though they completed in 1.0 hours. Maybe they are allowed to use a rate book. But I don't know. Only amounted to $17 anyway. Glad I'm in a different business. The Glass shop was Harmon auto glass. Regards to all.

    Interesting article about GM.

I used GM Buypower.com to buy my new Silverado. Absolutly the easiest purchase of a vehicle I have ever made. Anyone considering a new Chevy truck, or GM vehicle for that matter should check it out.

I am still pleased with my "Internet" truck (my co-workers have dubbed it with that name) even though with only 650 miles, will have the rear main seal replaced.
  • pathomppathomp Member Posts: 25
If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for your truck (relative to invoice or msrp) using Buypower?
  • riccirriccir Member Posts: 16
i have the black exterior (i bought it used)....unless you are a car detailer, stay away from black (or the dark blue for that matter)...you can see EVERY imperfection in paint/dirt.

i like the grey (i see very few of them)....the pewter (the most popular color in georgia i am told) looks real sharp too.
  • pathomppathomp Member Posts: 25
Edmunds says the self dimming rear view mirror w/compass & temp is standard on the LS & LT 1/2 ton for 2000. Anybody know if this is accurate? True for 3/4 ton also?

    - Paul
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    Pathomp,

    True for mirror

    Ryanbab,

Buy what you want...so you wash it a few times a week?.....For what we pay...isn't that worth it?
Dark colors show off the truck lines better.
Light colors everybody has cuz they are easier to maintain.....if you are not going to take care of it....then why buy it new?

    My 2 cents

No, I'm not superstitious. If something happens, it happens. But you can be sure I won't leave it out on the street so the punk(s) get another shot.

I was going to say you don't see many of the charcoal trucks, but you noted that and so did another poster. The Dark Carmine Red Metallic is real sharp with the sunset gold metallic rocker panels, aluminum rims, medium oak cloth or leather. Don't see too many of those either. All the prettiest colors look the sharpest when they are clean. Pewter and white require slightly less maintenance, with dirt showing less on the Pewter. But, even I get tired of all the Pewter trucks, all but mine that is.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Carmine with Gold is THE best combo. Too bad LT's are no two tone. Hopefully by next time they are.

I guess you are correct about not getting sick of your own truck....regardless of color.

Anybody have any experience with Hidden Hitch? I'm thinking about getting a class III hitch and installing it. They claim 6000 lbs of GTW vs. 5000 lbs of other manufacturers' class III hitches. I figured a class III hitch would suffice given that I probably wouldn't try to tow >6000 lbs with my 4.8l, 5 speed. Any advice?

dark carmine red over pewter ain't shabby either. and i've only seen one.....the one i order in sept. graphite interier...i can't wait!!! why all the fuss over 4 doors, i don't want people getting in on the driver side anyway, keep the family on the sidewalk.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Let me get this right. You ordered one in september, and still haven't received it? Of course you cancelled that one, right?
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
BLACK! It looks better than the others even when its dirty. Looks MUCH better when clean. I have the med grey leather interior. There's something about the black contrasting with the chrome grill ... my wife likes it too ... (Haven't tried the back seat trick yet ... )

$1000 deductible on comprehensive? Mine is $0. The comp. portion of my insurance really isn't that high, so I never added an actual deductible. It's been that ay since I've been driving. Collision is $100 deductible (my dad actually has $50).

It's one reason I've stayed with State Farm. Most companies no longer offer the deductibles, and many others won't insure my '67 Camaro without a hassle.

    Richard
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
It may not be $1,000 on my Silverado. On one of my cars, it is. I'll check my records when I'm in the office.

But it's based on the loss experience the insurance carrier has for a particular area. In Colorado, we get quite a bit of hail. There may be other risk factors also. Same for collision.

But if all the risk exposure you can accept is $50 or $100 deductible, out here at least, you'll pay quite a bit more for your insurance.

State Farm is good. Farmers is another good one.
Allstate? Big hassle I'm told. Geico? That's government employees insurance corp. To know I don't want them is to read the name. They won't take you if you have a radar detector. I don't, but screw them anyway for asking. Progressive? Fine for a motorcycle or motorhome. Nice web site. But only talk to a computer. No one actually works for them.
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
Didn't think about hail. In Southern California, all we have to worry about is surf wax getting on the paint ...
  • shiftlessshiftless Member Posts: 40
I ALSO PLAN TO INSTALL A 2" RECEIVER HITCH WHEN I GET MY 1/2 GMC. I WAS TOLD THAT A CLASS III HITCH REQUIRES YOU TO FIND ANOTHER LOCATION FOR THE SPARE TIRE. THE CLASS II WILL FIT AROUND THE TIRE.

Has anyone seen a 2000 2WD LS Ext Cab with Manual
Bucket Seats that have the "Cushion Tilt" and "Easy Entry" feature? (Mine does not) I also noticed there's no "lock tab/security feature" on the tail gate, nor any mention of it in the manual. Has GM discontinued this?

My truck has the charcoal paint, so far it's not too bad. The dirt showing isn't too blatant as with black and the truck looks real sharp (med gray interior).

The rear view mirror did not come with the self dimming and compass features. It does have the jumbo tailgate protector.

This truck was built the 1st week of August in Canada.
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
Thanks for the information on the alarm. I guess I would need supplemental or new alarm system if I wanted it to go off when someone touches it. Oh, well, I actually wasn't even thinking of alarms but since it came standard... Yeah, don't park your truck out on the street, when that idiot sees that you fixed your window, they'll hit it again. Oh, that would be IT!!!!!!!!

    Tim,
Are you sure that the LS has the self dimming rear view mirror w/compass on the 2000? I know the LT does. The reason I ask is because I really wanted it, but didn't get it, didn't want to go crazy with all this electronic stuff that might break 3-4 years down the line. If it comes standard for sure, maybe I will get one. Cool.

I have State Farm too, they have been great so far, but never had a claim.

How did you hang on for your truck so long? I think you need to counsel me on the waiting period. I KNOW its entirely up to me, but how many weeks would you give up (or make threats) if you hadn't gotten an order #? Orig. order July 12! Almost 6 weeks ago.
    %$#@&*!

Ryanbob - I got Charcoal Grey Metallic with med. grey interior. When are you ordering your truck? I thought you said next fall? And you're worried about color now? I'd place my order now, you will get it by next fall.

Advice on bed liners? Is the spray on stuff for construction workers or everyone? I have seen some ill-fitting liners in the past and wonder what would be best for me. (Nothing rough will touch this bed for a few years at least.)

My 2000 LS does not have any special features on the inside mirror.
