Indigo Blue/Pewter w/med gray cloth buckets:
I finally got word the truck I ordered on June 18 has been built and shipped Aug 23. The dealer says to allow 2 weeks for delivery to New Mexico. The waiting has been difficult, but now the end is in sight. It will be about 11 weeks total which I'm resonably happy with after hearing the troubles some of you have had. (Hang in there Cindy!) Will keep you posted.
Before I go to pick it up I should decide: Do I buy an extended warranty? What is a good price? Can I pick it up later? Should I buy through the dealer or are there other options? I assume some of the rest of you have been through this. Let me know what your advice is. Thanks,
- Paul
Good Luck and enjoy your new Silverado 3/4 LS !!!
Thanks,
Dan
Also, I am thinking about putting in a K&N filter. Any advantages on that one too?
Thanks in advance.
I would definately spend the money for the locking diff. Have activated ;o) mine numerous times. Not really used 4wd much, except really deep snow or glare ice.
Cup holders on my vinyl seater are mounted to the front of the center jump seat. Work great for wallets, keys and other stuff when not using as drinkholder.
Flares are black as standard. When it's not a two tone..thye are black regardless of what color you get. All the 3/4 2-tones LS's I seen...The flares are painted the same color as the bottom color. You could always get them painted if you did not order a 2-tone. Go back several posts for some pics of my 3/4 with flares.

I purchased the Grizzly 3 1/2 oval nerf bars and grill. The nerf bars work great. For the nerf bars all you have to do is remove the two screws holding the truck cab to the frame, for each side, with out removing the bushings and bolt the nerf bars. Just make sure when you tighten the bolts to try to return them to the right torque or you will get our famous Chevrolet squeak from all 4 bushings. Stay away from the Grizzly grill guard. I looks good but you have to drill and make too many modifications. It also requires to throw away the $38 dollar tow hooks.
Also, how hard is it to keep the blue clean? I'm attracted to the solid pewter because it would stay somewhat cool and appear somewhat clean, but it seems like every other truck is that color. How about charcoal interior vs. gray?
Like I said, the hardest part is picking the cosmetic features! Any help/opinions appreciated.

Well, duh...
Goes underneath your drop-in liner.
Claims will not absorb water.
About 1/8" thick. Looks like polypropylene, or hdpe. Foam type underliner mat.
Retail at the Leer truck accessory store is $34.95
Also, does anyone know of any corrosion (rust) problems with any particular kind of nerf bars? I live in northern Kentucky and they salt the roads when it snows. I know that certain metals corrode when placed in contact with each other, especially when exposed to salt water. Has anyone had a problem with this? Does it risk voiding the warranty?
Love the 4.8/5spd/4.10Lock combo. Coming off of a F350 CC 7.3L 5 speed 3.55. New truck has more power, but is less stable for towing big loads. Spring rate really low on rear axle, will probably add the airbags like Quad500 did. Right now 1 yd of cinders or 1/2 yd of rock takes me to within 1/2 inch of the rear bump stops. Great brakes and power though.
Wouldn't tow anything more that 5,000 lbs with this combo. Would probably go up to the 3/4 ton for towing above 3 tons.

My past experience is that they don't do all that much. I understand that aftermarket fog lamps are more powerful at cutting through the fog. On my S-10, the only way they were of any help is when they were on and the headlights were off, which is illegal. On the Silverado you can't turn the headlamps off anyway ...
I am surprised that they cost $120 as an option. I had to have one replaced recently due to a tire tread coming off a semi truck and breaking the fog lamp right off. It was only about $20 as a replacement part. The S-10 one was closer to $100).
FYI: They don't mount to the extension, they just show through. You could remove the extension and the lamps would still be there. They are 100% plastic. They should be mounted low to do their job. High-mounted fog lamps don't do what they should because they cause the glare to go right back into your face.

If optional for that kind of money, skip it - unless you really like the look. To me - wasted money and one mre thing to repair.
Thanks.
Don't use anything abrasive unless you have a finish problem (bird droppings, etc.) Then use a mild polishing compound designed for a clearcoat.
My preference for wax is amazingly outdated, but I like using my orbital polisher with Simonize. It doesn't cause swirls to show even on dark colors and givess a beautiful finish. Unfortunately it makes water bead, and many today think that is a "no no" -- leads to water spotting.

PS: Ford still makes trucks? Why do they bother ...
Here in Nor California the 3/4 tons are scarce. Lots and lots of extended cab 1/2 tons available (all have three doors). The 1/2 ton 2000's are beginning to show up now but nothing on the 3/4's.
Thanks in advance.
In fog I always keep the highbeams off, as that seems to work best for me.
What is the cost for a set of Hellas and how easy are they to install? Would this cause warranty problems? or do GM dealers sell as an accessory?
Rwag....what about those slider pics?
Fog lamps....although I haven't had the chance to use them in actual fog...they are bright and light up the ground pretty darn good.
Isn't it amusing how Ford fans find the new Silverado so appealing that they must enter this catagory?

TIRES:
My truck is coming with 245/75 tires. I am going to change to 285/75 BFG T/A's. How will this effect my speedometer, transmission and ABS brake system? Can this change have any effect on my warranty? I've read in some posts that the dealer can adjust the computer for the tire size change. In a post #5 at topic 947, Dave suggest getting a Hypertech Power Programer to correct for the change. Can someone tell me the bottom line on this? I can't be the only one to change to larger tires.
SYNTHETIC OILS & HD OIL FILTERS:
I read in some previous posts where someone was saying how great their experience with AMSOIL had been. Would using synthetic oil effect my warranty? Does GM reccommend a certain brand of synthetic oil? I understand they use Mobil 1 in the new Corvettes. Anyone have any pros or cons they had concerning synthetic oils?
I'm spending a good amount of $$$ on my new truck and I want to do all I can to keep it running till my son get's it on his 16th birthday (7 years). Thanks for any input on these issues.
i love everything about this truck
i was wondering about the exhaust, i went to a muffler shop and i was asking about flowmaster, he said that flows werent available for the 5.3L
the way i want the exhaust to exit is through the back, i was wondering if anyone had any info about this, and also if it would increase performance and gas mileage
I have a friend who has one of those dreadful fords and he put a K&N filter system(over $250) and it runs alright, but just doesnt seem like it runs like my chevy
we half way clocked my truck in the quarter mile and it was like in alil more than 15 sec so, that aint too bad, hehehe would like to see the 6.0L in a Z-71, that would be awesome
on my truck i have a grill guard, nurf bars, vent visors, bed caps, bed mat, and am thinkin about gettin a bug guard because a dam rock chipped my paint right on the rounded part of the hook, talking about one pissed off person, lol
anyways, anyone have any answers to my exhaust questions would love to hear any sugguestions and comments
"LIKE A ROCK"
I'll have them by Sunday. Probably tonight. I'll post a link.
Sorry...Been busy getting the house ready for the new baby (Due in December ... and the reason I haven't tried the "back seat trick" yet.).
Richard
basically they cut off the big GM muffler and put on two smaller flowmasters...
He said there would be a 10-15 hp increase...
with some extra torque
richinks, I had a similar question about the engine oil cooler because it wasn't clear that it came with any package, although it is listed as an extra cost option. I ordered a 3/4 with the tow package and found out that definitely it comes with both the trans and engine coolers at no extra cost (over the pkg $).
jed1894, wow, welcome to the infamous vibration. There is an entire topic dedicated to that issue plus much discussion here. Spend some time reading back.
