You have every right to judge that anything else but MSRP initially appears to YOU to be unreasonable. That is what I asked, and you're probably correct for the QX56. For how long, who knows. I welcome your thoughts on that too. I would not, however, expect someone to post what should be reasonable for me.
I said I was ready to buy. I didn't say I had to have a discount, just that there are reasons for getting one. If that's what you think, fine. Why post a contrary judgment and then state what I have not written to make your point? I was no longer ready to buy at that dealer after the salesman's response, period. Even if MSRP is what they have to get, there are ways to explain it. When I choose to look at another dealer the experience might be a little nicer. Maybe even hear, "Let me see if I can do a little something for you." Considerations of other then a discount and how much are factors, but that seems to be the sole basis of your unsolicited statement, '... ready to buy.' There are ways to deal with people to make a sale.
The QX56 may turn out to be a great vehicle. Then in six months it may still fetch MSRP. Personally, I'd feel better paying that then, rather then now when I know a whole a lot less and there's no track record.
To me any price now could be reasonable. That's why I asked for expectations and recent experiences. In responses I don't think strangers on these boards need be told what is unreasonable and what they really felt. I certainly don't!
I think that the Automotive Engine Rebuilders Association in Chicago had a Tech Bulletin some years ago about the danger of preignition that was sub- audible.
Wdog and discounts. Car salesman get beaten up all the time, especially by high end customers who are verbally skilled and like to joust. Now that the salesman has something he doesn't have to push, he naturally becomes a little huffy when someone approaches him as they would a less desireable product. While his behavior isn't justifiable nor even productive, it is understandable.
The more that wdog parses his behavior the less credible it gets. Once you clear away the smoke, it becomes very clear. Let me outline it: he said he was ready to buy and while he didn't ask for a "discount" he wanted some concessions in some form or content. Then when rebuffed he says that given the uncertainties about the vehicle he would pay list in six months but not now. Somehow I don't think that the sales guy has wdog on his PDA to call in 3 weeks when he has an order cancellation and an end of month quota to fill.
Why blockislandguy's need to, "Clear the smoke...," to determine that someone went to a dealer expecting something. He's correct. Wasn't ready to immediately pay whatever they wanted and take whatever they had. Whether the added comment about the salesman, his PDA, and my phone number was to show further wit, make a joke, throw in a snide remark, or something else, it was made without consideration. BTW, I didn't leave my phone number.
I assume the sole purpose of most is to just respond and is reward enough. Sometimes we say more. I can't see the harm as long as it's in a kind hearted way. Posts that appear, to me, to be unsolicited, mean spirited, even containing psychoanalysis of another's motives, etc., I don't seem to notice at other sites. For me that would boards for the Tahoe, PFA, and Sequoia.
The boards would disappear if the only posts were of the solicited variety. But, yes, we can safely drop the psychoanalysis and imputing motives - in fact, I insist! :-)

My wife and I both agree that the QX is the better SUV. Acceleration in town and on the highway were about the same, but the QX wins every other category in my humble opinion. Yes, the Escalade produces 345hp, but the QX's 315hp engine performs quite well from a standstill, while passing on the highway and I believe its torque rating is superior. I would rate performance a tie or possibly favoring the QX.
Safety: QX - side curtain airbags for all three rows - standard; NOT available on the Escalade. QX - better handling, steering "feel" than the Denali. QX - back-up camera and intelligent cruise control work well; I do not believe these are available on the Escalade or Denali. Overall, active and passive safety features appear to favor the QX.
Other PROs of the QX:
Bi-xenon headlights.
LED brakelights.
Comfortable seats (2nd row seats are heated and tilt back).
Lots of legroom for 2nd row passengers.
Huge storage space when 2nd and 3rd rows folded down.
Looks like a truck, handles like a car - easily parked the QX in a tight parking space.
Birds-eye view on Nav. system.
Extensive "yellow-pages" information available on Nav. system.
Subwoofer standard on powerful Bose stereo.
XM or Sirius radio available.
Power rear lift-gate.
Liquid Onyx paint looks great (has multi-colored flecks/flakes that shine in the sun - have to see it to appreciate it).
Storage galore throughout cabin.
Wide running boards to step on and large grab handles for easy entry into cabin.
Compass and outside temp. on overhead console above center rearview mirror so as not to distract when looking at rearview mirror.
Second compass integrated into Nav. system.
Softer look than Armada.
Excellent fit and finish on demo.
Smooth ride.
Infiniti ranked #1 by JD Power and Associates for customer satisfaction in 2003 (heard through the grapevine - have not seen actual study - perhaps others can confirm?).
CONS of the QX (IMHO):
Analog clock placed too low for most to see on front console, however digital time readout on Nav. system.
Low gas mileage, but basically the same as other vehicles this size.
No turning lights/blinkers included on side of vehicle (e.g., Volvo, Audi) or integrated into rearview side mirrors (e.g., Denali/Escalade) as a safety feature.
Sunroof leaked a bit while going through dryer portion of carwash - salesman claimed he had not properly shut it - reminds potential buyers to thoroughly check all options, accessories, and standard features before purchasing and driving off dealer's lot IMHO.
I would like to hear from others who have had a chance to test drive the QX56. Thanks.
What I can't get past with the QX56 - is all the rattles and squeaks I heard while trying one out. Now, the sunroof leaks? Think I'll wait.
With regard to the "leaking sunroof" in the QX I drove last week, I just spoke with the dealer and they checked it out immediately after I test drove the vehicle and found that a rubber seal needed to be stretched slightly and put in its proper place was the culprit and escaped the pre-delivery inspection which was rushed. It is now fixed and does not leak.
So I wouldn't wait on the QX due to a very minor tweaking of a small rubber seal in the sunroof. In fact, I wouldn't consider it a leak; one or two droplets of water hit the side of my face while going through the dryer portion of the carwash as the dryer pushed air directly down on the sunroof - not surprising that a drop or two of water was pushed through with a slightly loose seal. It is important to note that there was no leak during the wash or rinse phase when water was cascading down on the vehicle.
Anyway, I would like to hear from all those who have had a chance to test drive this potentially potent vehicle. Thanks!
Go to that thread because the topic doesn't seem to go away.

I have an Armada that has the issue to a minor level, but I am prepared to live with it as the car is great in other ways. If it gets worse, then I will be joining an increasing band of people asking Nissan to do something drastic to fix it.
However, I test drove one Armada that was so bad that at 65mph the resonance hurt my ears and my wifes. It had no sunroof, the windows were closed, the road surface was normal smooth-ish highway, and there was no bad weather or winds. I can assure you that the people on the Armada board who are having trouble are not complaining about something trivial - there is a serious flaw in the car somewhere that can make it painful to drive for any length of time.
To cover another post, this is not something related to having one window open, or the sunroof open a bit. These do cause a similar effect in many cars, but this is a problem with everything shut, and cracking a window does not make the problem go away entirely.
Don't buy one without driving it first. If you get a "good" one, it appears to stay good. If you get a bad one, expect to talk to your service manager a lot. The Armada is a fine car which I enjoy, and I suspect the QX56 will be great, but buyer beware.....
Thanks
All in all I really liked the QX 56 and think Infiniti has put together a nice vehicle. I have been shopping for a new SUV for over a year and will probably purchase this one.
I35 has turning radius of 40ft.
QX56 has turning radius of 41ft.
I like Qx56. It is a great SUV, but not that good.
For a truck with 123 wheel base, 41ft radius is good enough considering most mid-sized sedans do 37~38ft. Previous I30 was outrageous at 35ft!
Really? The Expedition has a lot more headroom than the Armada I tried out. QX didn't look any different, in fact 3rd row head room is still very tight IMO.
I seriously doubt that's true, and if I'm right, who knows how reliable that list is?

Anyone know when infiniti dealers in the bay area expect to get their allocations? I am in the market for a new luxury suv (to replace my mdx) and I am very interested in the QX56.
Thanks!

"We are currently working on a fix for this problem at the plant, and we should have one in place soon."
That means all that are on the market or in transportation do not have this problem fixed.
Later
1. At idle a noticeable (and for me annoying) vibration telegraphed through the steering wheel.
2. At highway speeds the wind noise was more than I would expect for a Luxury vehicle. Much more wind noise than my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First two rows in QX56. First row only in Armada.
Also, we've added a prices paid discussion. New owners (and active shoppers), please report on your buying experience. Thanks!

Thanks.
Thanks!
The biggest area that I found the LX and GX lacking is the engine compartment. There are V6 motors out that make alot more HP than their V8.
After driving the QX for awhile now I have found a few other things I like better than the Lexus. One is the power rear hatch and compared to the LX and GX a usable rear seat that folds flat. Also on a road trip with my daughter she wanted to switch the movie which was not a problem but in the LX you would have to crawl in the back to change out the DVD, hopefully while not driving. Just my opinion, you can't go wrong with either make.
I continue to rack up the miles with nothin but smiles!!! I found a place to install a Clearshield bra last week and also switched out the H3 bulbs in the fog lites with PIAA super plasmas. The difference is literally like nite and day.
I guess it's foggy a lot of the time where you live then?
