V-10, 6 weeks from order to delivery. Have only 22 miles on so far. Can only describe this truck with one word...AWSOME... Having chrome fender molding, molded flaps and custom billet grill installed today. Can't wait to hit the road with it..
As for the topper issue, I doubt I will be of much help. My topper is a 4000 pound 1999 10'11" Bigfoot slide-in truck camper. The retail is around $30,000 with the generator. I paid about $25,000. A little steep if all you are looking for is a topper.
By the way, got about 14.7 mpg on my trip to PA over the holiday, mainly going about 70 mph. 99 250 sd cc sb 4.3ls v10.
250 sd, cc, 4wd, sb, v-10, white over gold, lariat, 40/20/40 seat, premium radio, camper and off road pkg, etc.
I would have e-mailed this to you but you don't have an address in your profile. Guess I'll just have to suffer the wrath of 'viperle'!

Man! I hope the SD trucks get a better review than this one.
Now for the rubber band(s):
Just happened to notice a rubber band on one of the lines under my front wheel well. I laughed and called a friend over to look at the quality of the assembly process. I joked about it and then looked on the other side, sure enough a matched set.
Just curious, does anyone else have the little extras on their Y2K trucks.
so a lesson learned. if the vopc doesn't show what you think it ought to show (like if you NEVER get "locked" or scheduled)? call the dealer as the vopc updates do not obviously rise & set like the sun.
I purchased an A.R.E. MX topper. Frameless, deep tinted glass. Perfect paint match. I get compliments all the time. $1150. Very happy!
....we got down to about 17-degrees the other night, how about you??
....mileage update.....11-MPG...mixed highway/city driving.
powertroke or a 350 power stroke. I plan to pull a
29-31 ft airstream and would like a crew cab for
family travel. I am interested to know if there is
any real difference in the two models maximum
towing weight. I understand airstreams are heavy
trailers. I have read in other conferences that
350's may have a better resale value I plan to get
a lariet package in 4 wheel drive. (I also do a lot
of hunting in the swamps of south Georgia) Any
advice will be appreciated.
Geez! Calm down.
Since the Excursion is based on the SD, don't you thin they are related?
I was very happy dealing with Fred McNeice at Downs Ford in Toms River, NJ, earlier this year. Very straightforward, INV + 2%. He's a fleet dealer (our ambulance chassis come from him) and seemed to have allotment (and access to fleet only options). They have a website www.downsford.com.
I ended up making the two hour drive there after finding that the local (Flemington) folks didn't have allotment.

My truck has rubber bands around the brakelines too. Also at several places inside the engine compartment. Must be a shortcut in the installation process.
crazyelvis, gossamar
could the white plastic in the springpack be something like teflon to quiet the ride?
(I'm already in bed, so I'm not going out to check my truck right now.)
On my old truck, when I had it up on a lift with the axles hanging, I stuck little slivers (2"x6"xVerythin)of teflon between the leafs and it quieted the off-road ride considerably. They actually mostly stayed in the pack (although I would recenter them each year.)
aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh....typers cramp!!!!
Happy Holidays everyone.....
That's the first totally negative article I've read on the Excursion. The person obviously had a chip on their shoulder for either Ford or big SUVs. It's all about selection. If you don't need something as big as the Excursion, you can get an Expedition or an Explorer, and Ford is adding another super-mini SUV to it's line-up that will be a two door and actually looked closer in size to a car. They're also adding the Explorer Sport-Trac. I saw a nice picture of the Sport-Trac with a little write-up in one of the snowmobile mags I bought a couple of weeks ago. That thing will sell like hotcakes. One size doesn't fit all, so give the customer a bigger selection. The Excursion is just one vehicle in the Ford SUV fleet.
Ford does the same thing with their pickups. They've got the largest number of pickup combinations by far. Chevy does have one option that Ford doesn't have, though. Ford doesn't offer the third door option on their Supercab models.
stenson,
I answered your question in the other topic area you posted in, but here is a recap. It's basically a repeat of what lewac mentioned. For conventional towing (not fifth wheel), the F-250 and F-350 have the same 10,000 max tow rating.
The fifth wheel tow ratings are higher and can be as high as 14,000+ pounds depending on what options you choose for your truck. Generally, the more options, the lower the tow rating. The F-250 has a slightly higher fifth wheel tow rating than the F-350, but like I said, they both have the same conventional tow rating.
As lewac also mentioned, the major advantage of the F-350 over the F-250 is the GVWR which is the weight of the truck and everything in it and in the bed. The GVWR is an important factor if you have a slide-in cabover pickup camper or haul a lot of heavy stuff in the bed regularly. The GVWR of the F-250 is 8800 pounds compared to 9900 for the F-350 and 11,200 for the F-350 dually.
Since you are very knowledgeable with the SD, can you (or someone else) tell me what is the dry weight of the:
1. 2WD CREW CAB
2. 2WD SUPERCAB
THANKS
John
...by the way...how did you get yours out in one piece?? I destroyed them in trying to get mine out as they were wedged in REAL good between the leafs..
Hopefully I will join the glorious ranks of the "Haves" instead of the "Have nots".
Crazyelvis: Just a note - In 1968, true muscle cars got 10 mpg or LESS - but I can remember gas at .23 cents a gallon (with a six pack of cola if you filled up). So nobody really cared. GEEZZ- I remember when I said to myself " If gas ever gets above .75 cents - I WILL WALK"---- Yea Right!!!
TO ALL: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
FWIW, we are having a Glasstite Targa painted F1 red..ours was $1095 and included carpeted headliner. Now to remove the "4x4" decal so I can add a ju-u-st a lit-tle pinstriping....
Viperlie,
As far as the weight, I haven't found anywhere that shows the curb weight for each Superduty combo. Most weigh between 6,000 and 7,000 pounds. I took my truck to the scales and it weighed 7,100 pounds with a full tank of gas. On the other hand, I've heard of people with diesels and similar setups weighing about the same. It was my understanding that the diesel weighed 700 pounds more than the V-10. The best thing to do would probably get everyone who has weighed their truck to post their setup and the weight.
The 2000 Trailer Life tow ratings are in their current issue. If you don't want to buy the mag, I think they will eventually print them separate. They are handy to have around. You can find out how much an certain options weigh (such as Crew Cab, 4x4, dually) by seeing how much the tow ratings drop when the option is added. You can also see the difference when you change axle ratios.
1) Is the back seat in the Lariat leather or vinyl? I have seen contradictory posts on this subject and am confused.
2) Does the Lariat OH display have a readout for outside temperature as well as its other functions?
3) Will the 3.73 axle handle a 10000# max loaded fifth wheel or will I regret not ordering the 4.30? I am trying to balance performance and gas mileage while not towing.
I am about ready to pull my hair out deciding which of the big 3 trucks to buy. I like the Ford SD the best overall but Dodge and Chevrolet have their good points as well. Too bad nobody makes a hybrid truck that incorporates the good features of each manufacturer(Fodgeolet). That would make it easier to decide.
Thanks
Jerryg
Porky, My Baby was delivered at Titus-Will, but I actually bought her from military car sales while overseas.
To all of you waiting, you will not be disappointed!
I filled the tank up after 200 mi and was a little disappointed with mpg, only figures out to about 15mpg with the PSD in a F 350 4X4 DRW Crew Cab With 4.10 gears I am hopeing that mpg improves after break in time.also got a Stockland camper shell orderd today, now I have to wait about 3wks for that to come in, and I thought I was through waiting.
Everyone with duallys, Did your trucks come with body side moulding ? I saw anouther F 350 at the dealer when I got mine that had moulding on it but it had SRW I thought thay all had it
