I read a review of Mercedes electronic wheel control system. It has a down side. If you are on ice or snow covered road and have limited traction on all wheels the system reduces engine power and applies brakes to all wheels. The result is a very slow start. Article said it lets you move at a snails pace. It could not keep up with any of the other 4x4 sport utilities in the comparison. Not what you would expect from a Mercedes.

I love my new truck. I am having a small vibration problem. As far as the snow goes, I haven't had an opportunity to. I live just south of Atlanta, GA. We had a nasty ice storm he a few weeks back, but I did not have my truck at the time. It came in the next week. I have been using Castrol motor oil for 23 years and it has never failed me. When the truck came in, I sold my car in 2 days. It had 192,000 miles on it, and still ran like new. I put about 25,000 miles a year on a vehicle. I change the oil and filter at 4000 mile intervals. Works for me. The car before this one had 130,000 miles on it when I sold it. Again, I used Castrol. I will use Castrol in my new Silverado too. Good luck on your truck.

I have seen some nice looking Fords and Dodges on the road, but nothing that looks better than a new Chevrolet Silverado. Also, that baby will do almost everything for you. It has a lot of neat little features I did know about until I got mine. I LOVE IT.

After looking at some Silverado pickups, my wife helped make my mind up for me! We are going to get an extended cab 4 door Silverado. As much as I like my brothers Silverado (4WD LS regular cab short box), we think the extended cab will be more practical for the future. His truck runs like a sports car. I really like the 5.3 V8, you just touch the gas & the back tires are smoking!!!

My question to everyone who has bought or ordered the extended cab is----Which model did you select? What is the difference between a fully loaded LS & the LT?

I know which options that I must have.
    1)Z71 off road package
    2)Locking Rear Axle
    3)Z82 Trailer Special Equipment
    4)P265 tires

    Thankyou for any responses!

    There are:
    1) driver's seat two position memory
    2) push button lumbar support

Only found on a "LT" model.

...LT heated seats are NOT available in an LS at all. It also has nicer door panels.
LT's have a rear degogger as well.

However...and LS CAN have a sliding rear window and two-tone...which an LT can't.
I think Camper Mirrors are also available in LS/Base only.

Used to be an LT couldn't have a stepside...now you can.

    Good luck

I decided to get the LS when I ordered mine in the summer of 98 cause I didn't want the leather seats. I was able to get all the other options in post 269. I am extremely happy with what I ordered except i couldnt get the split rear window for some reason. I didn't think the rear defrost was really needed, but now that i have it i use it all the time, mainly to defog it.

I got the LT and I'm happy with it. If you get the LS and try to add the extra's it cost more then just jumping to the LT. And the seats are much better then the manual lumbar and no memory ones in the LS.

Can anyone explain WHY.... the top line LT, same style, same vehicle, same everything as the LS.... cannot be ordered with two tone paint. If Ford has 1 thing over GM it's they offer a lot more colors and better two tone options on all their vehicles. It's almost as bad as not being able to order the cab lights on the 1500, but you can on the 2500.

to put splash guards on the rear of the truck. They also use Lock-Tite to keep screw in place. Sparks flew out of screw head when I striped it (not a cool feeling). The price for a packet of 10 size 40-torx screws is $5.95 at dealer and they have to put in order (not a cool feeling either).

I am really happy with my LT. Only reason I can think of not to get one is if you don't want leather seats, or you really want a sliding rear window. Also, you will probably get a better price on an LS, because the LTs are much harder to come by. Someone posted something a long time ago about how LTs were only 10% of production. To me, it was worth all the trouble and extra cost.

I wanted a sliding window in the back, and because of that, couldn't get the rear defroster...hope I'm not sorry.
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
You won't be sorry. The benefit of dash vents will do the same thing for defrosting the rear window plus you'll have a cap in place which automatically limits viewing.

I've had mine since Feb 2nd, and it is UN-B-LEAVABLE! I figure, spend a few extra dollars, and get the best (pickup, that is). I couldn't be happier! I got the Glasstite 2000 cap, power slider, and a bedrug, so far, and I am amazed at all of the "Smart" things in this truck. Auto lock/unlock doors, autotrak, auto-mirrors, auto volume control. I even like the the auto-headlamps.

After ordering this truck last Oct 1st, I've obtained employment at, fan-fare please, Mercedes-Benz. Though GM doesn't really compare, the amenities get pretty close. Yes, I will get a Mercedes, but it's my wife who will be driving it. With the LT being this good, I almost don't even care.

Good luck with this one now!

I ordered my 2 wd 2500 ext cab 4 door on december 23. got my order number january 28 and today i got my TPW. supposed to be built week of March 6, so 3 weeks from today it should be built! getting really excited!
  • majormorgymajormorgy Member Posts: 30
The 800# operator called me today like he said he would. He said that I don't have a TPW yet and that he would continue to call me every friday till he has an answer.
2000ryan-mine was ordered end of december so judging by your build date, i should be a week behind you. i ordered a 2500 4x4 ext. cab 3 dr.(which was changed to a 4 dr. by chevy because they stopped making 3 drs.), LB, LT.
Good luck with yours and let us know when you get it.

...it does relate to trucks though. I was at Wal-Mart tonite, and they now have a Dupli-color bedliner kit. it sells for $40. comes with a gallon of the bedliner material, roller applicator, pan, and brush. says it can also be sprayed on. anyone ever tried dupli-color? just wondering if its worth a hoot. thanks

I appreciate all the information about the LS & LT. We looked inside the Silverado's tonight & really liked the LT seats much better then the LS leather seats. I agree with some who said the LT is the way to go! As much as I like my brothers pickup ('99 Silverado 4WD regular cab LS short box), the LT extended cab is nicer.
    Thank you,

I am with you, I am very sceptical about a 40 buck DIY bedliner for my $29,000 truck! This things gotta last me a long time! only one around here that does spray on's is a Rhinoliner dealer. Gonna try and call them for a price today i think. What kind are you getting?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
What did become of that 2500LT?....Right after I got suspended...he showed up....then after I was back..he was gone?....Tom Dunkel I think was his name...great guy!

A GMC SLT can be had in two tone...why not a Chevy LT?...I would have loved to have two tone in my 2000 2500 LT...oh well. Some suit thinks it should be that way. By 2002 model year...if they don't offer it...My next one will be custom done at the dealer...Carmine with Gold bottom/Flares.

I too like the LT....It gets used as a truck..but it's also my "car" for nice nights out/traveling/and commuting. And at this point in my life...I've worked hard to get where I'm at..I want comfort!...so damn right it's gonna be a spoiled interior!!.LOL
I wanted a stepside at first...but something about the ext.cab stepside that looks wierd??....also wanted a slider...still may get a power slider like Rwag? I never had a need for a defroster on a truck...and someone said I would use it on an extended cab...I admit it seems to fog up easier than a regular cab....maybe due to the window being further than a reb cab back?...who knows..who cares?

I went accesory shopping(looking, no buying yet) this morning for my ordered truck. I found the Lund hood deflector that mounts into the existing holes, it looks good. I do have a question, maybe someone can answer. I also looked at the new carbon fiber hood deflector and window visor things, made by GTS. anyone tried carbon fiber products from GTS? I think it looks good, just wondering if the "ominguard" is well liked by those who have them. If anyone has an "omniguard" hood deflector, whether its smoke or carbon fiber, please post how you like it. does it sit off the hood and allow for cleaning behind it? anyone have GTS window visors they can tell me about? thanks everyone. i hope posting about accesories doesn't make anyone mad here. thanks
  • 2000ryan2000ryan Member Posts: 47
    Love the audio.
  • rudigerrudiger Member Posts: 6
The GTS omniguard I think is great, looks good, and provides actual protection to the hood, like any other guard. It has 2 ways to apply it--with screws or snap on. I chose to snap it on because adhesive circles are used to keep it from bumping your hood, and it fits perfectly. I am also glad i did because you can remove it easily to clean underneath. Hope this helps!

  • 2000ryan2000ryan Member Posts: 47
thanks for replying about the omni guard. i am not sure i like the idea of having to use adhesive bumpers to keep it off my hood, especially when there are models that stand up freely with no problems.

This is my first entry here. We are looking to by a 3/4 ton truck and test drove a Silverado 2500 6.0L 4x4 ext cab 3 door today. We would like to get information on the mileage, towing ability, 6.0L engine performance and problems, and any other comments people may have. We were dismayed to read of all the vibration problems. We felt vibration in the steering wheel while test driving a 1500 5.3L ext cab 3 door, but did not feel vibration on the 2500. We will be towing a horse trailer and boat and have a slide-in pop-up camper. Any information on the Silverado, good or bad, will be appreciated.

I just took delivery of my 2K 1500 LS 4x4 4dr X/C Z-71 last night that I ordered in October. I need to come clean and admit that I have been a Ford fan since I began driving and this is my first GM product. I came very close during my to purchasing a Ford during the long wait. All I can say is what a truck, if you are waiting, hang in there! I did what I told others to do and keep driving the different brands until one comes out as a winner. I thought the Dodge was dated, and the F-150 was nice, but he Silverado kept coming up on top no matter how much I tried to stay loyal to Ford, and no matter how much crap my friends and wife threw at me. I kept telling them that people need to stay objective and buy the best vehicle and customer service.

Only 60 miles so far, but no hint of vibration what so ever. It was built in Ontario, and came with the same Firestone Wilderness ATs (P265s)that are on my Explorer. Not my favorite tire, but as I said no vibration.

One intersting note and a question. I ordered a sliding rear window and it came without one. The previous posts are correct that they are on restriction. My question is that in the past when I have factory ordered other vehicles (Ford) they always called me and let me decide to accept the vehicle as can be built or wait until the restriction has cleared. But in this case the dealer told me GM just builds them as is without a notice and let's me decide once it gets here whether to accept it. Does this sound right?

Thanks for all the info, this site helped me fill the time.

Oh Evan, you are raining on my parade! I at least hope if they built mine this week without the slider, they had the sense to put in the defogger! Has anyone gotten theirs yet, where the 4th door was sub for the 3 door, and have you had to pay the difference?

My spray-on is going to be from a company called "Iron Eagle Liners". An independent company in McDonough, GA. $315 for under the rail. Line-X and Rhino were both $350. I have seen all three types and "Iron Eagle" has a much better look than the others. Good Luck deciding.
  • clarkmcbrayerclarkmcbrayer Member Posts: 22
The cost of the 4th door is only $330 MSRP and Invoice cost of $228. The extra door is well worth the money. I waited longer for mine because I did not want only 3 doors.
  • kantonkanton Member Posts: 142
I went to the dealer yesterday to have a look at those new 4 doors. The dealer here has a row of them for stock so far! I wish I had waited this long before buying my truck. I would have really liked to have that extra door, just for conveniece purposes. Although, I am very happy with my 3 door. Next truck will be all out 3/4, 4 doors, etc, etc...

In reading the descriptions of the options for my LS truck I noticed under the CD+Cass. option that it includes an 80W amplifier. Does the LS CD only come with this amp and if not can it be "plugged in" the existing LS audio harness or maybe it is possible to replace the LS amp with the LT amp?

If the LS CD only and the LT have the same amplifier, let me know and I will quite trying to engineer an upgrade.

    Thanks Evan

According to the manual (yes, I read it cover to cover), it states that you can turn off the ECM by holding down the Temp button for 6 seconds. I have tried this several times, but for the life of me, the indicator light will not turn off. Now, I don't really need to turn this off, but I would like to know if it is perhaps defective, or is the documentation wrong?

The vibration (and other) problems you ahve read about are actually very rare. As I recall, the vibration problem in particular was traced to a known issue (tires in one case, steering shaft in another). Mine has had no problems, and the majority of owners here have not had any problems either.

  • kantonkanton Member Posts: 142
The 285's will fit. You do not have to adjust the torsion bars. If you adjust the bars up to increase the highth your ride will be rougher, possibly more bounce. You will have to realign the truck. I would suggest trying the 285's and then adjusting the bars only if necessary. Have it all done at the same time you buy the tires.

Just hit 15,000 miles on my 99. No vibrations, frame bends, cracked blocks, dropped trannies, or burnt up clutches. The only problems have been a door rattle and the leaf-spring clunk, both of which fixed just fine. Given some of the doom-and-gloom posts that appear here and in other topics, I felt that there was value in noting that this is one good friggin truck!

WE BOUGHT OUR TRUCK IN MAY OF 1999, THE SAME COMPLAINT AS EVERYONE ELSES - VIBRATION IN THE STEERING/FRONT END. WE WERE CONSIDERING TRADING OUR TRUCK FOR A DODGE OR FORD 2000 BUT , ITS HARD TO DO AFTER OWNING SEVERAL CHEVY TRUCKS WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS 99 TRUCK. OUR DEALER WON'T HELP US AT ALL, NOT EVEN HELP WITH A TRADE FOR SOMETHING ELSE. I HAVE READ THAT A FEW OF YOU HAVE WENT AS FAR AS AN ARBITRATION. HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT THIS? ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR US, WE ARE JUST VERY UPSET WITH THIS DEALER AND UPSET THAT WE HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS BUT THE ARBITRATION. PLEASE HELP US - UPSTATE NEW YORK

It seems that alot of people are complaining and i have a theory. People speak out when something goes wrong or bad and when things go good they dont say anything. Also all the people who have little or no problems are out enjoying their new truck and have better things to do with their time than be online all day and complain about this and that. Ok thats my theory of why we hear the bad stuff. Still hasnt swayed me. 20 days and counting (haha) you all know what that means :)

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Dont get me wrong if something is wrong speak out we all like to hear it but i was just stating a theory trust me id do the same thing. There are always problems nothin is perfect. It seems the 99's had many problems and my theory on this is that they totally redesigned this truck and had bugs/flaws that needed and still maybe need to be worked out. Im sure they are getting much better now after being made for about a yr and a half now.
