    The way to verify if you have 4 wheel ABS is to get up some speed and then slam on the brakes. If you skid, you'll know your front tires locked up. The good news is that the back tires won't, so your truck should skid straight without fishtailing. This, of course, assumes you are not on snow and ice or all bets are off. The downside of this test is that you may put some unnecessary wear on the tires that lock. My truck came standard with 4 wheel ABS, but it is a dually. My 92 F-250 had two wheel ABS. I locked them up a couple of times, but the truck always stayed in control.

    craigwilliamso, we used to be able to track via Ford's internal tracking system but we are no longer able to do that. :( Tracking is best handled by bother either your sales rep or Ford Customer Care or both :)

    sdman, who said I used a book? :) I use DeLorme's Street Atlas software (which, for the price, I like much better than any of the internet mapping sites). Do the same thing, Find and Blue Island, IL popped up. As for the cup holder, if there is a hook on the front, you've probably got the new cup holder. There are some nice pictures on www.ford-diesel.com of the new cup holder.

    Saw something interesting today while at the dealer for service. I know there has been some discussion in here and some people thought it would be nice to have an F450 that was more like an F350 in comfort and ride. Well I saw one today. It looked like an F350 DRW CC Lariat only it had an F450 badge on it. It was also a powerstroke V8.The only part that looked different was the back of the truck. I mean the body of the truck behind the cab. It looked like a custom job....the molding of the body around the wheel well was much rounder and just seemed custom. Other than that it looked like an F350...just a bit beefier. There was a 350 next to it and the 450 looked bigger. It had Penn. licence plates on it.....in for service also...couldn't find the owner....have to look again this afternoon when I go back to pick up mine. Thought you all would be interested.....

    Yep, ford has had an F450/F550/F650 available for some time now.. (since 99).
    They have higher gear ratios available etc, and even a differnt tranny available as well I think.

    The only 'gotcha' is that from the factory, you can't order one with any type of bed.. So you have to go to an upfitter to put the bed of your choice on, (flatbed, pickup style, dumptruck, utility etc.)
    This is what you saw..

    What many folks who have big RV's are looking for is bascially a factory orderable F450 that has a bed on it already..

    I asked the CAC when the 2000 SD production run would end. They did not know but were able to look up the end of the 1999 run...August 27, 1999 or the end of the last full week in August.

    I figure mid-September is the longest any of us allocationless people are going to have to wait for a 2000 SD.

    Has anyone heard what in store for the 2001 SD?

    The guy at CAC was the most "CLUELESS" human being, at least I think he was human. He was the worst BSer I have ever heard. Tried telling me my truck was still in production. I hung up. I then called the dealer and preceded to tell my story of tracing my truck from the day it left the factory, plus I told them that it was never in Naperville as they told me it was, but I didn't dwell on that, I just made them know that I knew what they had told me earlier about it being at the railhead waiting for a truck was not true. This was around 9am, at 10 I checked the status of my truck(at 7am it was in Gibson,IN.) Now it was in Cicero,ILL. bound for Naperville. Thing is it must be way of MULE TRAIN...ETA is March 2nd at 5:30am.
    On a good note, I found an underground website on FORD News........www.blueovalnews take a look at it.

    There are several companies that cater to the RV crowd and customize F-450s and F-550s, primarily for towing 5th wheels. One such company is Fontaine which has a shop in Kentucky very close to the Superduty factory. No coincidence there. I'm pretty sure you order the truck from Fontaine, rather than a dealer, and then they get the truck from Ford, put all the goodies on it and call you when it's ready.

    It's not inexpensive to add the goodies. The Fontaine package I saw include a low profile bed, fiberglass moldings all around, running boards, fifth wheel hitch, and auxilliary fuel tank. The cost was about $7,000. Add leather and other interior goodies for about another $2,500. Add air-glide suspension for about another $4,000. You can find less expensive customizations, but most of the ones I've seen raise the price of the truck up into the $55,000 range.

    I have to believe Ford can do it cheaper at the factory and I have to believe the demand from the RV crowd is there, but you never know. Maybe it's not. I can see them justifying not offering options that are on the F-350, but I do believe they will start making F-450 Lariats in the not-too-distant future that have all the options the F-350 has, including a standard size bed. If someone doesn't want a bed, they can opt for the bed-delete.

    As Bess mentioned, another thing I'm hoping they offer is a taller axle ratio like the 4.30 (for the V-10)or 4.10 (for the PSD) rather than the 4.56. The taller ratio will reduce the tow rating for the F-450, but the tow rating should still be greater than the F-350. For someone like me, an increase in tow rating is not why I would be considering the F-450. I would want it for the increase in GVWR for carrying a heavy slide-in truck camper. The axle ratio won't impact that and, by offering the taller ratio, I won't have to sacrifice mpg for towing capacity I won't need. For those who need the increased towing capacity, they can opt for the lower axle ratio (higher number).

    P.S.

    One of the reasons the F-450 probably looked bigger is because they come with 19.5 inch tires I believe instead of 16 inchers.

    I knew you all would know.....Now I saw it again tonight when I picked my truck up <<misaligned bumper>>>......It had the Ford Lariat seats in it...looked factory on interior....it did have the custom rear....looked low profile and alot curvier......kinda weird.....oh well...hopefully...like you said....Ford will do the "in house customising" on these and not force people who need these large trucks to dump 50+ grand to the outside custom people......

    Well, I got the call today. Ford told my dealer that they will not be building my truck. He was told that there are just too many orders and that they are still working on one's ordered in October so mine got tossed. Don't quite know what I'm going to do. I don't know if I just keep my order "in" there may be some miracle, and it will get built...but then there is that $1000 I put down. That could be making me some bit of interest. I asked if I kept my order in with them if I could be promised the price I was quoted. He said he's check that out. He said 2001 models will start being made in June. I guess that's not too far off. He said they hadn't yet heard what was going to be new next year. I am by no means faulting my dealership. They have been nothing but straight forward and helpful. Woe is me that's all.

    Ordered 1/20/00...200? F250SD, SB, V-10, auto, Lariat, 4.3LS...gotta stop. My tears are dripping on the key board...

    Definitely need to get some kind of running boards or cab steps. Any thoughts or recommendations? How do those who have nerf bars like them? 2 1/2 year old grandson took first look at truck and said "WOW"

    In San Antonio, there are 2 450's running around. I talked to the owner of one, and he said it was a very special order. His truck is a 99 F450 PSD CC SRW with a bed. The factory wheels were 16's. Now it's got 10"-14" of lift. Too extreme for me, though.:-) So, I guess with the right dealer, you can get anything you want to pay for!

    Mainecowgirl-Hang in there you will get yours. I waited 17 weeks and thought I would never see it. My dealer told me that last year it was May when they started the cutoff. Believe me someday the wait will be history and you will be a have to.

    sorry to hear of your cancellation(?) of your order. i talked to my neighbor/hunting friend who owns the local dealership where i live. he indicated that my order and another had been immediately "submitted to the factory" and that was because we ordered psd's. there was a 3rd order that is still "clean & unscheduled" and that was an order for a gasser. perhaps you would consider a diesel. alternatively, you might try some of the larger dealers. the one i had success with (had i wanted to fly out west) who had trucks right now was in san diego - mossey ford. they are an extremely large dealership, with inventory on the lot. the guy quoted me 1000 over without any haggling. not the best price, but it was for a truck which exists. the reason i passed was not the difference in price, but because i felt i would rather patronize my friend who offered me a nice deal with no hassles, and who i felt a genuine loyality to. however, he was the first to suggest that if the wait gets too long, go ahead and order from another dealer, and have them dropship at his place. if your dealer is as good as you believe, they will offer you the same accomodation.
    btw, i don't know the mossey ford ph# off hand, but it is in the 619 area code. if you are interested, give them a call. regardless, sympathies and good luck to you.

    Sorry about the news. Maybe you should check out a dealer out of state. Someone whom your freinds here may know for a fact that the allocation is better. Drop down to invoice, and you can cover your weekend flight/pickup/drive time back home. Good luck.

    Sorry to hear about yours news. Keep your hopes up you wil still get your truck. I did think I would ever get mine. It took 8 months but I picked it up 2 weeks ago. Put 650miles on it allready. So keep your chin up and hopes high.

    Sorry to hear that. In some ways, you have to give the dealership a gold star for being honest..Even though it means they'll probably lose the sale.
    So, what are your options:
    - wait.. although your dealership must be outside of their allotments so the wait will be very extended.. You should ask for your $1000 back in any case.. (There's no requirement from FoMoCo for a deposit, my dealer never even asked for one).

    - Check out other dealerships.. (even online ones). Most can 'drop ship' them to your local dealership.. Some folks even take trips a few hundred miles to pick up their truck..

    How immediate are your needs? Do you currently have something to pull your trailer/horses, how long will that vehicle last you?

    Heck, send me/us the list of all your order option codes, I'll be at my dealership tomorrow or the next day (having my truck looked at now), I can stop by and see what my dealer says about order times and availablity.

    I suspect your problem is the V10 (but who knows). As suggested earlier, you might get your truck if you go with the PSD. See if your dealer can pin down the commodity that is putting the order on the shelf. I'd think in this case, you should be able to get your deposit back since they can't deliver the truck as agreed upon.

    As for 2001 trucks being built in June, I don't think so... I seem remember reading both here (I think) and www.ford-diesel.com (I'm pretty sure, title is '2000 Super Duty balance out' by Louder) that the last day that 2000s will be built is July 28. 2001s won't start up for a few weeks after that. Sounds like potential non-builds are 4x4, crew cabs with auto trannys and 7.3L, 6.8L, 5.4L engines (yeah, that doesn't make sense but... :)

    This came from a Ford dealer in Texas so some of the above may be a southwest regional commodity issue and not apply nationally.

    You folks know the difference between a Fairy tale and a Tall tale? A fairy tale begins "once upon a time..." and the tall tale starts, "You ain't gonna believe this s**t."

    Well, you ain't gonna believe this s**t... (but it's true-that's the other disclaimer) I was cruising down I-75 yesterday, going 60-65 with no cruise or a/c on in the beast-baby. I started to wonder about whether the gauge was wrong, so I stopped to fill up. 15.22 MPG-amazing. I was dropping altitude slowly all the time from 800 down to about 200' over 259 miles.

    I ran through another tank yesterday afternoon and this morning going UP I-75. 13.3 MPG @ 70 on cruise. If you average the 13.3 and the 15.22 you still get 14.25 or so. I'll take it.

    Not too shabby for a V10 CC, 3.73 LS, 265s, 4X4

    Now since I suppose I am one, I can say this: Know why they don't put "black boxes" on redneck 4x4 owner's trucks? Because after every crash, all you'd ever hear would be "Watch this!"

    bowhuntwi: I think maybe your truck got shipped by the same crew that shipped lewac's truck. Sounds like it's going back to KTP.

    Gosh: too much to catch up on.

    Question: Do Husky mats form-fit the floorboards in front? If so, where do I get them? An ho3w much are they? The Ford mats are puny.

    I put on a set of Westin nerf bars and am very pleased with them so far. They only took about an hour to install and are very sturdy. They maid a big difference getting in and out of the truck and now my elderly parents can get in and out of my truck.

    The owners manual says to use 5w30, that seems to be a little light for our S. Texas summers.also, 14.3 mpg on last fill-up.

    I bought the Husky liners for my 250 CC in January. They are form fit and fit very good. Front floor board has 3 pieces .... one for each side and third piece fits over the hump. Back floor board is one long piece. They are cupped on the sides to keep water, snow, or dirt from spilling out. I probably paid too much for mine ... bought them at a pick-up accessory store for around $160 for the whole shebang. They are color coordinated. Thought I'd just leave them in for the winter ..... but they don't interfere with anything so may just leave them in permanently. I set the Lariat carpet mats aside to keep them in good shape for possible resale someday.

    sunscreen.... Just do what I suggest to folks that don't like certain TV programs ..... change the channel .... the program won't miss you a bit and you will be a lot happier.

    You're at a good time to do the first oil change. Some people do the first one early, sometimes after 1,000 miles or so. I try to do it every 3,000 miles after the first one. Some people will change it every 5,000 miles, so somewhere between every 3,000-5,000 miles is a good benchmark to use. If you are towing or hauling on a regular basis, stick closer to the 3,000 mile mark.

    Open to suggestions sunscreen. None were forthcoming in your post. You eliminated mpg, power, gas vs diesel, and how to get one, which limits the remaining topics. My leather seats are pretty, even after an Alaskan summer of fishing and camping.......

    Read a post on ford-diesel.com from a dealer in california that has his own personal truck on order, and he was told by his regional Ford rep that any truck ordered before 2/18 will be built. Sounds like an allocation thing with your dealer. See if you can switch your order to another dealer, maybe one from the prior posts here, and I bet you will see your baby. Good luck!

    I have the Husky mats...don't have the front "hump" cover........I really like them. I had mine...ordered from performance products I think.....about a month before my truck came in....I almost sent them back...I thought they looked cheap out of the box...but I'm glad I kept em....really work well....clean well...and don't mark up....I have the black ones...tan interior and carpet...I didn't like the tan ones they offered....looked really cheap even in the pictures.....
    And thanks for the email....will reply...so sunscreen doesn't have to pour over another topic that is boring....although I think I might have the record for most topics not related to the SD's......
    And sunscreen...have you ever posted in here before....If you have...it must have been sooooo interesting that I just forgot about it.....
    It is so nice to have my bumper aligned....no big cracking noise when hitting potholes and speed bumps.......

    All-When I wrote last night that I had to stop because my tears were falling on the keyboard I was saying that for a little comic relief in light of this TRAGIC situation, but tonight you all did me in. I had to go and get a Kleenex!! I have never felt so cared for in all my life. I came on board here right around the time that lewac was having his troubles, and I was amazed and so heartened at the outpouring for him, and now I'm feeling it coming my way. You are all just the best. Thank you.

    I received two very helpful e-mails today with leads on trucks in Denver and Connecticut, which I will be following up on. Bear with me here and I'll post my exact configuration: Y2K F250SD, SC, SB, 4X4, auto, V-10, 4.3LS, Lariat, captain's chairs, ESOF, sliding rear window(no privacy glass), cass./cd, trailer tow pkg(no hitch), power tele. trailer mirrors, 235bsw tires, dk. torreador red. Was given invoice price of $28959, but since I have since decided against the accent color it would now be $28767. There you have it.

    I do have a '93 F150 that's pulls my trailer very nicely on the short hauls so I am in no screaming hurry to get this new truck. And you know what they say...good things do come to those who wait. Again thank you one and all for your words and good deeds. Sorry for the length!

    Took my SD in (5.4L) to have the symptom looked at. (Light pinging during acceleration).

    Service manager called fairly soon after.
    He said that the computer chip supports multiple octane fuels, and mine was set wrong..
    So he set it to the proper octane..

    The work order says quote:
    'Correction: Road test vehicle BO codes ran oasis called hotline instructed to set fuel octane retard timing let customer have truck'

    My result: No change, (It actually feels like I might have a little less power, arg, but this might be while the computer re-learns how to work).
    The ping is the exact same as it was before.. Obviously they didn't drive the truck after the fix.

    Also, my cig lighter is now missing.. I don't smoke anyway, but don't want the hole there either.

    I left a message for the service manager specifying no change in symptom, the missing lighter and I'll call back to re-schedule for another look, and I'll need a loaner this time..

    This sounds like a 'nit' problem and many folks wouldn't think twice about this sound. But I've heard that pinging can cause engine damage..

    Also,as they say they test drove the vehicle and called the ford service hotline, I assume that they heard the same sound I did, and determined that its not normal for the engine to do this. So I'm confident they'll figure it out..

    If somebody asked me which was worse being told your truck order had been rejected by Ford or knowing that your truck was finally built and wandering around the country trying to find it's way home to you.....well, I think you have it all over me for aggravation. I'd be going crazy if I were you. Me, I'm still just basking in the glow of kind-hearted people. It'll find you soon.

    Mainecowgirl, sorry to read about your set back, but as you said good things come to those who wait. With any luck one of those other options that were suggested for you to try will work out for you. Fingers are crossed.

    Still waiting to hear from my dealer that my 00 F350 CC is in their building and that we can pick it up, instead of it traveling the countryside with out me, built 2/18?

    Also I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on weather we should get an extended warranty with the 7.3 PSD?

    I also bought the Husky Liners for my F250 Lariat. Like crazyelvis, I was not, well, crazy about the tan ones (I have the Lariat interior). Bought the gray ones instead. They look OK, not great, but OK. If I ever want to show off the truck, I'll probably pull them out first :-)

    I agree that the stock Ford mats are really cheezy looking.

    Paid $108 for the two fronts and rear at a local OffRoad shop (did not buy the third one to cover the hump).

    They do a *great* job of keeping bad stuff off your carpet.

    Sorry sunscreen, another post about ordering/waiting. I ordered my 250SD today. The wait is on. I had posted earlier concern about long waits for 5.4 V-8's. There is some concern form the dealer that their allocation might be a problem, he will let me know after talking to Ford rep. Mainecowgirl--earlier posts suggested that Garnsey and Wheeler Ford in Greeley, CO might be able to help out. I would second the suggestion. My dealings with them have been exceptional. I haven't bought that many new vehicles in my life (4), but this is the second from G&W and they have been straight and reasonable, and they are a major player in this region for truck sales. Give 'em a try.
    I will watch the site for further info on bedliners, cab steps, etc. while I wait. Thanks again to everyone for the info and suggestions, I am happy with my choice!

    hubrex2-I don't think that the spray in bed liner would serve my purpose. I'm in construction and would be to hard on it. I saw a site www.yorkproducts.com with a bedliner called load lok that looked pretty good. Anyone out there know of this one or have one to recommend.
    mainecowgirl-glad to hear that you are handling your setback well. What kind of trailer do you pull. My wife has a 2300 lb. Belgian horse and would like to know what type of trailer you would suggest.

    Yup, I think my truck is pon vacation seeing the wonderfully flatlanders paradise of Illinois, it has floated to three differant yards since Monday of this week. Was pushed back a day for the stay in Naperville. So i take it, it's decided to stay the weekend too. Going to call CAC and see if I can get someboidy with half of a brain to help this morning. Talked to the dealer, told them if ford can go 5.9 for the Expeditions they should be able to do that for the super duty do. I guest we will see. I hope my truck likes it's tour of Ill. because he won't get there again except for a pass thru in Oct. for my Colorado Elk Hunt.

    If you can get your hands on a copy of this months "Trailer Boat" magazine, there is a write up on the F-450 ...(I can't remember the name of it to save my life) "towing machine". I'm sure this is what you saw - it does come direct from Ford. The base price is about $34,000, but the one shown in the magazine is $82,000. I'll post some more details after I get home from work tonight.

    I have the tan husky liners front, back, and hump. I kind of like the color. They sure do work!! And they are form fitted. I bought them from Performance Products before my truck was delivered and like everyone else almost sent them back. They don't look like they sould cost as much as they do. Now I wouldn't trade for anything. They catch everything and clean right up with just a little water (I just put then in the sink and rub with a rag.) I also have two 5 year old grand kids and the back one piece mat has caught all their spills so far.

    The best price I have seen for the mats is from Bass Pro Shops. Front liners are $50 for the pair, $40 for the hump, and $50 for the back seat liner. It will cost you shipping but no tax if you live outside Missouri so that is a break even. I wouldn't pay for express shipping since my orders have arrived in just a few days using regular shipping.     Mainecowgirl: My sympathies!! I agree that I would get my $1,000 back regardless of your decision. You have already demonstrated good faith and that is what the money is for. I'm curious, if you leave your order in place, will it automatically roll over to 2001. If so maybe you will get one of the first 01s off the line and then all of us "haves" will be jealous!

    bess, when I picked the truck up, we got handed the 2 sets of keys and the lighter. Sounds like lighters easily grow legs and walk away. :( Good to know that you need to watch that on servicing as well.

    idahoan, extended warranties. Check out www.ford-diesel.com , there have been many discussions on the wisdom of extended warranties as well as pricing and third party extended warranties.

    all on the floor mats. I agree, couldn't believe how cheezy the factory floor mats are on a vehicle that costs that much. I got the Catch-All mats since the Husky all-plastic look didn't catch my eye. Color was a good match and cover most of the carpet (unlike those factory floor mat imitations :)

    Picked my truck up last Friday. 250/CC/SB/V10/4x4/auto. Everything came in as ordered. It looks and rides great. My first 3/4 tank of gas averaged 10.9 according to the computer. When I filled up the pump shut off before it was full. I had to nurse another 6 gallons in it to get it to the top. After I finished filling it up. The gas gauge barely moved. I drove home and after about 10 minutes the gauge had crept its way up to read only 3/4 full.

    Has anyone had the same experience or do you think something is wrong?
