FYI, I ordered my 2000, F-350 PSD CC Auto 4x4 DRW Lyariat on 11-15 and received word it will be at the dealers approx 3-27.
I know the warranty thing has been flogged to death, but my main concern lies in the cost to repair the PSD and it's reliability with-in the 100k mile mark as my 97 Dodge Ram has been a real problem in the repair dept.
There are several third party warranty companies that don't service us here in Wisconsin, such as Warranty Gold. I just wondered if I should spend the time looking around for a reasonably priced warranty as the factory one is way too much, like you said.
I have given the bed liners and tonneau covers some thought as well. As of now I may keep it simple and do the Line-X thing.
Thanks for the info.
Not that I'm advocating the EW but remember in your example above, at the end of 3 years you'll have $3600 but what if at the 2.5 year mark you have a out-of-warranty fix that costs you $5K that would have been covered by the EW. EW is an insurance policy and you're playing the odds; most of the time the EW coverage won't pay for itself but sometimes it does....
$80,000+ for a pickup! I'll pass, but I bet it looked nice....
I feel compelled to divulge this embarrassing little revelation I found out last night when I was going over my paperwork because you all deserve to know...I found out what my priority number was on my order....ready?....an 80!!!! I know, I know I have been reading posts where folks have been discussing that number, but either I didn't think I had the paper work that told me or perhaps subconsciously I didn't want to know. Anyway, maybe that would have been a little indication of things to come. Ok, Ok everybody, stop your chuckling...
Went to my dealer today to speak to them in person. I don't know how any person could be a car salesman...they all seem to just sit around a lot of the time. Anyway, the sales manager and two salesmen including mine had a good discussion. I asked if I would be first in line for a 2001(that would be fun..)if I kept my order intact, and the manager didn't know. He has seen it happen, but he couldn't promise. I mentioned my option of ordering from, say, Denver and having the truck drop shipped to Maine. I did get a stone-faced look from them at that point (except my salesman-he is just an easy going fellow). They said that NO dealer is in a position to order a V-10 auto. They again showed me the fax from Ford saying they could order 0% V-10s. (Excursions on that same fax had 100% V-10...I almost ran up and strangled a smug looking Excursion driver I walked by in a mall parking lot today, saying "You have my motor!" as I throttled him, "You have my tranny!" but I refrained.)They said that drop shipping costs about $500, and since no dealer in the US can order a V-10 (their words), I would have to find one on a lot, and shipping that here from Colorado would cost me upwards of $1500. My mind was coming to its own conclusions as they were talking. My salesman kept mum through most of the discussion. He knows I'll figure it out without being told. My brain kept screaming "allotment!" Their fax saying 0% V-10 is a "regional" one. I'd like to know what Denver or Greeley's fax is saying. I e-mailed Denver today, thanks to a lot of help from Bobh12, and am waiting to hear from them. I didn't get my deposit back just now. (Don't start yelling at me yet!) I am a very methodical person. I don't want to burn any bridges just yet, and I am not going to be losing too much interest on $1000 over a few days. I'll literally keep you all posted.
nailbender1-I can give you all sorts of trailer info as I recently bought a new one, but I've used up too much space. I'll get back to you.
sunscreen-Are you wishing right about now that you just hadn't gotten out of bed the other day...?
With mirrors telescoped in....84" wide
With both mirrors telescoped out....90" wide.

...Safe bet, get a 16x7 door and all will be fine. I have a 16x7 door and have about 2-3 inches to spare when pulling into my heated garage with the 265-AT tires.
...mileage update....down a bit with winter months only getting about 8-9 mpg ALL in town, but the V-10 power is worth it!!
NOW for the front end SQUEAK with the 4x4 trucks. I took my beast into the dealership about almost 2-months ago and had the "spring tip isolators" replaced on the front springs. There is a TTB on this number 99-16-3. Basically these look like little plastic spacers placed in between the springs up under the front shackle bolt. Well, two days after having this originally done, the squeak was back. Took back to dealer and was lucky to get the same tech as before. I took HIM for a drive and was able to listen to the sounds. Tech then put truck back on lift and replaced the same isolator tips one more time and heavily coated them with some sort of lubricant. So far so good. The tech said he was also going to send my repair information to his factory tech support person at FORD, because I had the truck in twice for the same problem. Will wait and see if FORD has another fix yet. That is all for now...
My condolances also go out to mainecowgirl, let us have a moment of silence......
dwucher-Pond hunting as we speak.
how many miles.
I go on down the road. Three tunes later, nada. nope. zilch. The boy's getting a little irritated.
Reboot. Tunes! Three to be exact.
Enough of that. The next day, I'm riding along grooving on the radio (as crazyelvis might say) and the cussed radio goes "kkkkccccchhhhhh" on all three bands (FM1,FM2, AM). I stop at McDonalds for a break and obviously reboot. Radio Tunes!
Called the dealer today. I was asked in great detail about the problem. Apparently this is NOT an isolated incident, probably a short. Anyone else have this problem with the CD/radio combo?
I swear, the only real "fuzzy" thing I ordered that's not 100% functionally required and I get this. Dealer wanted to pull the radio and send it off. I said, "I don't think so. I paid $30,000+ for a truck, you can get the radio off the lot or somewhere else first." Ideas?
Priced Leer tops today. Nice, fiberglass top, no carpet liner, w/sliding front window and extra large windows about $1250 painted to match and installed. I see them around town and they look very nice.
Now if I could just sell my 94 F150 4x4 for about $10,500.
I thought you had the diesel, so I would have figured you wouldn't want the radio messing the the music comming from the engine.
Being in R&D at IBM, I very much understand the 'bill gates' approach to fixing problems, made me laugh.
oturner1.....sorry...never seen the tan ones "in person"....maybe they look better than in the picture.....As President Clinton says...."beauty is in the eye of the beholder"....well something is in the eye of the beholder....
I also have the tan Husky liners and love them.
I had a zero deducible and price quoted was $3,175.
To change the note....I have had a few extended warranties, like on my last truck I had one to a 1000,000/6 years....I used it for a few minor things...worth roughly $700. The main reason I got it was the vehicle before a 91 Sub I had a rear axle go out....it was decided it came from the factory like that but it was beyond the warranty & i got stuck for right around $3000 for a new one. I argued a long time with GMC.
I doubt if I get one with my SD, I'll make a slush fund also, if I don't use it, I'll maybe use it for a moose hunt somewhere.....mmmm, I have a brother in law in Kodiak, Alaska, maybe I'll go there.......Well have a Good Day All & a Great Weekend.....
brutus, remember that the PSD 100K warranty covers only the engine and not other truck components such as the tranny.
I'm beginning to think we got a nice offer from the dealer on the Platinum Extended Warranty. $1700 for a 5/100K... (I'd need to recheck the info but that's what I seem to recall). We're still debating the EW merits. Also, the EW we were offered said that we could take the truck to any ASE mechanic, didn't have to be a Ford dealership.
Ken English is the man....mainecowgirl....worth a try if you are up for buying the truck in Florida.
OK OK....the tan mats are just beautiful!!!
My Ford duffle bag arrived yesterday. Yours should be there soon, Wildside1, if they are related to delivery dates.
Where's the A.R.E. site? I can search for it if no one has it book marked. I haven't seen these around here, but surely there are some around Hotlanta or Charolotte. Thanks for the tip.
CD player is scheduled to be yanked and replaced next Wednesday. I may just have to have a hole in the dash for a while. Same thing happened to my radio in the 150 when it was new 6 years ago. Yes, I'm being quite nice actually. Don't fire the big guns prematurely.
Rebooting the big red one: When you stop and cut off the engine, most electrical systems except maybe the clock, cut off right then. When you restart, the chips and computers in all the little gizmos like anti-lock brakes, radios, and anything else that got screwed up will generally reset. I think what is happening is actually a heat related short, sort of like a thermostatic reaction. When it gets hot, the short occurs. When the power is off, it cools and closes. Tunes!
I discovered the reboot trick once when my 150 lost its ABS for no apparent reason. I cut off the engine and restarted and never had another problem. This sort of thing is always worth a try if there's a chip involved like with a CE which is nothing more than a laser disc reading player.
This approach fixes a multitude of sins with Windows systems.
99 F250SD XLT CC 4X4 V10 AUTO 3.73LS DEEP WEDGEWOOD ESOF CAMPER/TRAILER ETC... 14,910 WONDERFUL MILES SINCE LAST APRIL (DRIVE MY 88 REGAL WEEKDAYS)
I went with the Snugtop XV. Both times we drove by the local A.R.E. dealer they were closed. Looked at Glasstite and a) didn't like the vibes from the dealer and b) for the price thought that the Snugtop was a better deal. The Glasstite we liked was more than the Snugtop (and by more than $1-2
Snugtop was ordered a few weeks ago so should be in soon (gotta get that Rhino sprayed in before the topper shows up). BTW, Snugtop also matches paint. Dealer told me if the paint didn't match, they'd pull the fuel cap cover and send that in for a match (which I'm not thrilled with so I hope the paint does match).
At first, the fuse was blowing every couple hours and then the frequency increased. My dad, not being one of the most even temperament at times, knew that it had to be something to do with my inability to drive normal. Several thousand miles into the trip, the problem was discovered. It was the tilt steering wheel. There was a wire in the steering column that got pinched when I adjusted it to the position I liked. I'd like to say my dad apologized and offered to buy me a beer, but I think is comment was something along the line of "what are you driving with that danged wheel in your lap for anyway". He did buy me a beer in Ohio, but they were only 39 cents a mug back then in that part of the country.
My Ford duffle bag arrived yesterday. Yours should be there soon, Wildside1, if they are related to delivery dates.
Little history:it is a faint sound during acceleration (something like pulsing air flow etc).
At first I thought it was something with the intake or exaust, but after discussing it here and seeing others posts, I convinced myself it was sparkknock or light detonation..
I had my truck in a few days, and the service tech, said he did hear some spark-knock, and re-programmed the chip to retard the timing, which corrected that.. But when I picked up, I could still hear this other sound described above..
Well, today, I took a drive with the service guy, and we discussed it.. He was very professional, and did give some explainations of the sound I was hearing, and we did rule out it was spark knock. Then we took 2 other brand new 5.4L SD's out for a quick drive. The only difference was they were auto vs my 5sp.
They made basically the SAME SOUND.. The big difference is that the automatic tranny + 5.4L tends to shift down fairly quicky when accelerating making the sound harder to hear.. But if you listen for it, its there. (Its hard to hear on my truck when at 3000+ rpms too). however, since I spend most of the time in my truck right at 2000 rpms, it sounds a little more pronounced..
So, I'm an idiot.. (my words). If you look hard enough for something to be wrong, you'll find something whether its real or not..
I did confirm a few things today:
a. I love my truck!
b. The automatic tranny in the 5.4L really takes the 'snappy' feeling away,, Plus, no wonder folks with the auto tranny are getting 1 or 2 mpg less than me.. I love my 5sp..
c. I have a service dept, (Capital Ford in Raleigh) that listens and they really do want us to be satisfied..
d. My ears are too sensitive!
Oh, the service guy apologized (sp) for losing my cig lighter. While testdriving one of the new trucks, he pulled out the cig lighter, said
'Does this look like yours?'
'yep'
'Put it in your pocket, sorry about that'
BTW: Filled the tank today, (its getting more $$ to do this now). Even after all of the test driving, computer resets etc, mpg calc'd out to be 15.5 on the dot.
Loadin up the bike this evening for a weekend of MX racin.. Ya'll have fun.. (yes, even you sunscreen)

The funny thing is that I realized he's nearly deaf and drives an old Sub****n with 150,000 miles on it. He goes out and gets himself a hearing aid about two weeks ago. Then, he comes in bi**ching about how noisy his truck is. I thought I'd choke on my coffee that morning. He said, "Has it always been that noisy?"
So sometimes, it IS just perception. You're in good and paranoid company.
crazyelvis.. just received our survey from Ford... gave them lousy marks for delivery within the comment field.. but could not say enough good things about Gator & Ken. they delivered EXACTLY what was ordered with no BS.
well, in another couple of weeks we get to exchange a lot of oil as yanking a lot of stuff around gives a 3k oil change interval.
I have a cab-high XV on order. Front slider and headliner. Liked the good visibility with the XV and the ones we looked at here seemed to be well constructed. My husband also liked that the handle/latch that opens the back pushes in and is recessed when it's closed.
Sounds like from f-d that A.R.E., Snugtop or Glasstite are good choices (plus other brands that I didn't check out

The dealer is expecting my truck sometime this weekend. My fingers are crossed.
