Anyone got the same noise? Please respond quickly or I may end up in a mental hospital wihtout internet access!
So I do have a top priority order from a dealer who has no allotment. What does that mean do you think? Also I have heard people mention price levels of 017. Mine is 019 on this sheet. Does anyone know what that indicates?
I have had so many e-mails from people on this forum giving me names and phone numbers of big dealers all over the country. Thanks. I am still waiting to hear back from Denver for a second time. Courtesy Ford there doesn't have my exact configuration on their lot, but they was seeing if perhaps they had one in their incoming stock that did match.
I am wondering if anyone here, who has tried to order recently, has been told that Ford really isn't taking any more orders. Despite what you all keep saying, I live in a really small community and will be getting my truck serviced at this local dealer just due to logistics. I am a little uncertain about getting a truck elsewhere (even though I know they have told me they can't get me a truck right away) and having it serviced here. Or even worse getting a truck drop-shipped there and rubbing their low allotment in their faces. It's a little different experience being a woman and dealing with the very male-dominated business of truck sales and service. I just don't want to piss anyone off. I can wait for this truck, and I am wondering if I should just do that only to make my life easier down the road. Any thoughts....or better yet, can you all come with me when I go to get my super duty with "Courtesy Ford-Denver" stickers on it serviced here in rural Maine??
Cowpokes-Sorry, I talk too much.
maincowgirl, pricing level 017 was for trucks ordered and accepted before the end of December. Pricing level 019 is what has been in effect since the first of the year (I forget the exact date in December but seems like it was the last week in December). If you ordered after Jan 1, you are correct at a pricing level of 019.
As for Courtesy Ford, Denver on your truck, take the medallion off. Almost all of the medallions and stickers will come off with a little heat. As I recall, there are only 1 or 2 that use holes through the body (but I don't remember which ones). There have been a few discussions on f-d on which ones come off without leaving holes and various methods of removing them.
Only you know your local dealers and how they'll react to a truck you didn't buy from them. They should still perform warranty and service work (since they're getting paid for both) but it sounds like some dealers are not as cool as others about doing it. Probably also depends on how tight the service and sales department are in the dealership.
Seems like your order was early enough that it should have been able to be built, but the clock is ticking and not everyone who orders a truck now will get the 2000 of their dreams...
Also, it appears that theres very little communication between 'sales' and 'service' dept within a dealer.. Sales tends to 'throw it over the wall' to service once the sale is complete..
That being said, I don't think there would be any 'harsh' feelings etc, that you'd receive from the service dept.. They would probably assume you moved from somewhere.. If they already know you, then they 'might' assume that you purchased it there..
The service folks see so many folks, many of which havn't purchased at that dealer. You'll just be in that category..
The service computer system (oasis, i think its called), does keep a record of what work was done on a particular vehicle and where.. So if you've had service done to it somewhere else, this service department can see it.. In your case of a new truck, its unlikely that it would be in the oasis system yet..
Ordered 12/21/99 Priority 10 in NJ
2000SD, 250LB, CC Lariat, V10auto,4x4, 3.73LS, 265s, ESOP, trailertowing,green/gold etc.....
now need to get serious about finding $.
Thoughts on sprayin liners (leaning towards LineX, roll tops, molded slash guards (Ford?), wraparound bug shield (Ford?)???
maincowgirl... first, the gender issue should NEVER be an issue no matter who you're dealing with. didn't read all the posts last week & saddened to learn your deal was cancelled. please note that the issue in regard to service is really not an issue at all. the service/sales departments at dealerships are essentially separate entities living under the same "umbrella". regardless of WHERE you purchase your vehicle the service can be performed anywhere (you can even do most of the routine maintenance yourself). note that when we finally picked up our vehicle early last month our salesperson mentioned that Ford probably won't be taking orders much longer as they need the rest of the model year just to build the orders they already have. If I were Ford I'd open another plant somewhere to build these things while the "gettin is good", so-to-speak. anyhow, time to search the whole country for anyone that has something in stock that's close to your desired config. we didn't even bother with dealers in our area, they didn't have our truck anyway & also had little allocation for them (no truck only dealers anywhere nearby). find a truck only dealer nearest you & then talk price on one they can find that's close to your config that's in stock somewhere. the allocation issue still comes up so that's why you need a truck dealer. Gator Trucks out of Tampa still has trucks they're selling at around $500 over invoice. they move a LOT of trucks & are still getting new ones. worth a call, anyhow. if you're interested, let me know & I'll repost the info. you may also check with others within this forum because many have also received good deals much closer to you. most certainly, truck only dealers are still getting trucks (that they've previously ordered as a part of their future inventory). Gator is real amiable & will tell you what config's they've got coming in. some other dealers may do this as well (I would). luck.
dealer says that Ford knows of the problem and says its bad california gas. I don't believe it. I've tried several brands and octane levels of gas and nothing changes it. I'm currently looking for another dealer for help. In the meantime, can any of you help me save my sanity?? DO YOU have the same noise? Ever heard of it? Also my truck (white in color) had an extended stay in the railyard and ended up with millions of tiny rust spots on the paint. The dealer said that it happens commonly but isn't noticeable on the colored trucks! WATCH YOUR PAINT CAREFULLY after the railtrip! ANY HELP ON MY NOISE GUYS??
Thanks for the point toward the camper tops koakey.
Probably the first thing the service folks did is made sure your computer was set for the proper octane.. If they havn't done this, ask them about it.. (They were directed to do this by FoMoCo service hotline).
My engine makes a sound that I thought 'could' be a knocking sound.. I'm now completly convinced its not true knocking, pinging, spark knock or pre-detonation.
My engine makes this sound whenever I accelerate in 3rd/4th/5th. Light acceleration, heavy acceleration, and in between.. It goes away as soon my speed is constant.. It does not occur in 1st/2nd.
When I testdrove some automatics, it also made the same sound, but maybe less often. The auto tranny has different characteristics than a straight drive (5sp), as the torque converter helps out..
As I've driven 3 trucks (2 autos, and my 5sp) that make this sound, I'm convinced its normal..
To me, the sound is not as 'sharp' as a true knocking, but instead is more 'airy'. Thus when the service tech explained to me that it's related to intake and exaust pressures, I believe him..
I have the 5.4L, but this is basically the same as the V10 minus 2 cylinders..
Your comments have eased my nerves though. The sound, even if it is normal gets a little obnoxious. I'm really disappointed with my original dealer who acted as if I was hearing things and that no one else had reported such problems. I hope it doesn't get worse. I'll let you know if I make any more progress. Thanks again!
I'll probably do the k&n thing in the comming months for other reasons.. I'm not sure about exhaust.. Seems like alot of money to make some noise..
They also told me that *if* I was willing to
wait, the orders stay in the order bank - even if
it has to wait until next year's production.
that buyers can read. After spending the 30 grand I just don't have that warm and fuzzy feeling I was expecting. I love the truck, hate the noise!
Thanks for keeping in touch. I'll let you know what they tell me.
bye....
With gas prices around $1.60 here in central Ill, I have switched over to the 87-octane stuff. My JET performance Chip doesn't recommend it, but thus far nobody's knocking on my engine!!
not submitted to the plant in the next 14 working
days, you might not get it.
That EW can be bought at most any ford dealer
for $2500.00
Searched for something remotely close to my order to no avail(What a suprise)" The Waiting is the hardest part"...Tom Petty
crazyelvis - I called Gator Ford looking for Ken and to see what they might have on the lot. Surprise - Ken doesn't work there anymore. Manager said something about the clientele going downhill, starting with a former bubblehead who's in the sign business and has horses who he thinks are dogs! Hah! Seriously, I didn't inquire about where he went, just tried to find me a truck and they don't do many V10s (none even close to what I want) but do have some PSDs. So the wait continues.
I've heard that some of them end up sounding like
like two toyotas parked back to back. I'm not sure if they're legal here in california. I will find out, though. As for power, the V10 can't use much more. As it is, I can smoke the dual tires
a little too easily! thanks for your help!
Clean and unscheduled ever since. Dealer says I'm on the list (the #$%^ list I think) and the problem is Ford not giving them their orders. Purportedly largest allocation in the region.
p.s. We have a nice TB mare and DWB gelding. Wife and daughter ride. Wife does equine acupuncture and chiropractic. Truck link! She'll use it to tow the horses and make calls.
Many folks are getting deals of $500 over dealer invoice or less.. Some its more in the $1000 over invoice.
So, I'll look on edmunds now and see what invoice of your truck is. Stop reading now if you dont want to know..
The dealer invoice would be in the 27,800 range..
So you paid less than some folks, and more than some folks.. Your truck is definately worth every $ you paid for.. Its also likely that you paid more for it than the person who ordered it would have paid.. But then, your driving it, and they're not..
I decided to buy another F350 and found out that
the order time could run up to 5 months I realized
I would be a basket case by the time it arrived. On the other hand, by the time many of the people
on this BB take delivery of their new units, mine
will probably have burned a few thousand gallons!
GEEZ! Maybe it is better to wait! Who knows? I've
had several ford trucks, outside the weird noise I'm hearing, this is the best truck I've owned!
Did I mention this is an automatic? Its the first
puller I've had without a 5 spd stick.
Thanks again for the wisdom!
The 4.x ratio may do better, but against a 6-cyl accord, it too will fail.
Not to bag on SD. It's the fact.
Real power comes in only when the V10 gets going already which is typical of any fullsize trucks (may be with the exception of the Tundra).
Still waiting for my truck, it's been unloaded, but I think it's attending a party at the yard something like Spring Break in Chicago. Ford says at the lastest the 9th of March, it's going on 6 months, almost 1 month since it left the factory.
Mainecowgirl, it looks like you are waiting for something to open up in your area, best of luck to you. You are a far more patient person then I. As you said, there isn't really a need for you at this time, but it is more of a want. If I were still in the hunt, I would be looking far and wide, not to say that you aren't, but for me there would be a uncontrollable urge to attain one as I don't like being told that there isn't a truck available.
tom169, For what it's worth, I too think that you got a really great deal without all of the hassles associated with an order out. Enjoy the fact that you are now a have, which just goes to prove that there are some trucks available out there, you just need to look and keep your options open.
Sorry for the long post, but I just had to tell someone about the arrival, as there was a lot of gloom and doom out there.
There is hope for all!
I do have the Flowmaster....00 250 CC V10 3.73...plus I put in the K&N filter....gas milage went from a steady 12.5 city to 13.7.....I'll take any increase in MPG right now....
I used to sell medical equipment....ultrasound machines.....If I had one with a price of $30,000 and I could sell it for $35,000...well I made the regular commission on the $30,000 and then would split 50/50 with the Co. the overage of $5000. I know it works that way in the auto industry also. Like some have said in here before....maybe we are going to finally get to a time when the consumer finally has the upper hand in the car buying process....or at least an even hand....and this is going to force dealerships to redefine the position of salesman/woman. Oh well....another topic unrelated to the SD....just trying to keep my streak going......
If you look at the torque curve chart in the Ford brochure for the V10, you'll see why the 3.73 set up is not a drag racer, but everything being a tradeoff, this combination of engine/driveline gives 12-14 mgg and the 425# of torque happens at an RPM range that goes a long ways toward making a very driveable and somewhat more affordable set up. The pick up and gas mileage are as good or better than my old 150 which has a 3.55 rear and and a 5.0L auto. My V8 sounds better, but it just wasn't enough "hoss."
crazyelvis: Did you get a whole new air cleaner assembly or does the K&N element fit the Ford housing?
Hang in there guys. These are good trucks.
My retired Brother just dropped in, enroute from South Texas sun to Iowa looking for a cold one as usual. Told him he was a month or so too early for heading up North but what do older brothers know! He has a 38+ foot, 14,000 lb. fifth wheel pulled by a 2K 350 PSD Auto Dually CC, etc. He had a chance to look at hundreds of Snow Birds rigs while there and reported that over 95% of pulling trucks were Ford with PSD. He said he saw a few percent of the DO*G* diesel with the rest being whatevers left.
Sounds like Chebby is going to attack Ford later this year with its new 2500 and 3500 ..... quite a combination they are putting together ..... 6.6 liter V-8 Diesel with 4 valves per cylinder and an Allison 5-speed Auto attached .... Fords delivery times may decrease drastically if the Chebby is a hit. Of course Chebby isn't letting out as of yet how much HP and torque the engine will have .... or how much the Allison Auto option will cost (probably will be substantial). I apologize to the folks that don't even want to hear about the competition .... before you shoot .... I LOVE my SD!!!!!
Does anyone remember the time Viper-dude (to quote one of our more illustrious members) promised he was only going to monitor this site and never would post again ?????
Happy motoring.....
With the 4.30 rear gears and EVEN with duals it
will smoke the tires. I try to avoid that, of course. After all I don't want to lose the rear
end with less than 2K on her! My 89 460 dually,
now there's a smoker. with the five speed she'll smoke 'em in second. Its an impressive show, albeit risky! No, of course thats not what I buy a one ton truck for and for those of you with a quit wit, that IS NOT why my new truck is KNOCKING!
Idahoan, thanks for the moral support. I know exactly what you mean about the wife. Mine too was none too thrilled about the new purchase. Let her drive it a little and that will change!
lilelmo, Just intake noise, no KNOCK? Dear God, I'm gettin' worried. I know that I'm beating this
subject to death, but I've got to get it resolved before I flip. The dealer can't see me til later in the week so I'm relying on you guys for wisdom.
To me, its like having a hunting dog with bad eyes, a rusty shotgun, new shoes with holes in the
soles, underpants with chiggers in 'em. Get the picture? WHAT THE SAM HILL IS THIS KNOCK?????
I can smoke the duallys with the 4.30, but I prefer to save the tread. I have no problem being the first away from the light without smoking the tires, but it's more a matter of driving habits.
No engine knock with my 99 V-10, auto tranny, and 87 octane. 87 octane was up to $1.44 last week when I fueled. That's a $.20 gain in less than two weeks and about $.40 more per gallon than early last year. That's $15 more per tank. I sure like these gas stations where I can use my ATM Check Card instead of actually seeing the cash leave my wallet.
There is a topic...on the first page of topics....that will show you what the chebbys and GMC's look like.....UGLY I think....I guess I am partial to Ford.....
wildside1... yeah, I remember that in regard to viper-dude. as the world ticks with all kinds of humanity... so it goes.
with no sched.build date yet. The waiting continues.........
