oh yeah, regarding the wax. i side with red on this one. i use zaino and love it. though next time i buy wax, i may let tim talk me into the stuff he uses, can't think of it right now...but his truck looks nice with it. here's a link to what my truck looked like after it was zaino'd...
Damn birds! I just noticed today that I have a big bird drop on the passenger side door sill. (it could have been there a few days, don't know, since I don't see that side of the truck very often).
Anyway, I tried to clean it off with soap/water, then polish, but it won't come off. It seems to be into the clearkote.
Any ideas how to get rid of it, without killing the clearkote?
Bob, Just finished a weekend shakedown with my 1500 LS 4dr and 4000lb trailer. I did not use the ride control on the outbound leg but did use it coming back. I can't say that it made a big difference, but with a 5th wheel pin weight of only 700lbs plus maybe 200lbs for hitch, tool box, etc. my trailer is not a big load for the rear axle anyway. The benefit may be more apparent with more towing miles or a heavier load.
The Tow/Haul however was great. It held off the upshifts to stay in the power band better. Initially I expected it to also downshift with little pedal effort, but instead, it seemed to still require the same throttle opening to initiate a downshift. With the 5.3L and 3.73 axle, I could maintain 70 mph at 2000 rpm in OD pulling the 4000lb trailer. Somewhere there was a post that stated that Tow/Haul locked out OD, but I was able to get the same rpm in OD in regular mode and Tow/Haul mode.
if your truck is 2000 (or 1999, not sure if it makes a diff.) look on page 6-60 of owners man. where it talks about chemical fallout. not sure what your damage looks like but you might be able
to pass it off like it is. Rick is my partner took his in for similar problem and they gave it back to him and you can't tell it was ever touched.
Thanks for the info. This Yellow Wax #26, will it fill in the swirl marks? If not, what can I use, if anything to get rid of the clear coat imperfections?
Someone said sum'pin about claying??? What is that and is this something that will help with swirl marks?
Been using it for years....Zaino is good too...and is the latest Internet buzz....just thought I'd let ya know about some of the other stuff too. To only use one product and say it's the best...is like only having one woman....and saying she is the best.....how do you really know?
DB, What are you using to apply and remove the wax? An old towel that used to be used for house and is now a garage towel? Invest in some good cotton terry cloths or cheese cloths that are perfectly clean and super smooth.
As for DRL's...take it back?...why? I could care less about DRL's being on during the day...anyone that anal....well....we will just leave that one alone..
Remove tires damn guess i wont be doing it before i drive it home in the parking lot have to wait and put it up on a jack. Thats cool though. Thanks hope to see some pics
if you want to fill swirls use Zaino #5. To remove swirls try claying or Malm's ultra fine polishing cleaner. Use only 100% cotton and US made white towels to apply/remove polish. Be careful as there are foreign made 100% cotton towels that are not 100% cotton.
Anyone tryed pressing the emergency brake down one click until the brake light comes on. (one click will not engage the brakes) This worked on earlier models with DRL. The brake light feed turned the DRL off. Someone try it and give us a report.
Some of those round terry pads are not really the best stuff around.
use a 100% cellulose sponge.
With malms it should be slightly damp. Not sure how it would effect other wax?....shouldn't have any effects? Dry would be worse than wet....so go with wet...but not dripping. I can't say exactly what to do for what you have made?....I would have to see it in person. But yes...a finer polish is what is used to remove swirls...such as Malms Ultra fine...and then when perfectly clean...malms wax.
I'm not saying it's the best on the planet...but I was asked what I use...and I told ya.
3M hand Glaze also is great. I use that only on the Hurst/Olds....but it never even sees Rain.
It offers very little wax like protection....but shines like a [non-permissible content removed].
Zaino is a good product as well....but Malms has been around long before anyone ever thought of Zaino......kinda an old dog - new tricks thing I guess?
Red,
where the hell am I insulting here?....you taking too much personal offense to something that nobody else seems to mind?
it's cool alright. i can read but could you please tell us what the word "liek" spells that
was in your reply.
BTW i'll bet you have chrome or anodized valve stem caps on your ride don't you.
as for being here long after i'm gone (whatever do you mean i'll never know) is another LURD type statment. i'm not going anywhere. i have found this to be a very informative board. everybody that posts in here has taught me alot about the new Chevy's. i've been reading here for a long time and it was Ryanbab and Bluebeast that prompted me to start posting. i found their conversations past and present to be informative as well as amusing. as a matter of fact anyone that needs to know something about Chevy's will most likely find what they're looking for right here.

This is getting crazy. I think i need to get out while i can. Ill leave on a low profile note. One last question though after reading my truck trend magazine i just got saturday i am contemplating probably a yr after i have my truck getting a supercharger (yea i know i know its not a cosmetic thing) How much generally does a whipple supercharger cost? I am just curious probably will never get one but just in the thinking stage.
Just a few weeks ago you asked why anyone would want to get more power out of the truck. you said that it was ridiculous to add performance accessories. You also said something to the fact that a truck is not supposed to be a street rod and it already had enough power and was fast enough. Now you say you want to get a supercharger?!! Isn't this a little hypocritcal (sp?)?? Make up your mind man!
Just finished installing a 6 1/2 inch amplified Bazooka tube (RS model). It really fills out the low end and adds some umph to the stereo. This is the smallest size they make but it has plenty of boom. It fits perfectly behind the seat in a regular cab because it's the same width as the plastic jack cover.
GUYS IT WAS BUILT Last thursday 4-6-00. Its now sitting somewhere they didnt tell me where getting ready to be tested then shipped. Wow go from monday 4-3 not knowing when it was gonna be built to being built 3 days later. Cant wait now I am getting so excited YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
THE TRUCK IS AT THE DEALERSHIP!!!!!! 4 wks from order. I am so overwhelmed everyone tricked me. It was built in fort wayne indiana. I might get it sooner. OH MY GOD i am so excited
glad to hear your truck came in. i p/u mine saturday morning. decided to accept it even tho it was missing two options i ordered. took me 3 1/2 months from mid-december. what a great truck. read the whole manual from cover to cover. still not sure on how to work some things. i.e. program door locks. 200 miles and found i have a launch shudder and front end needs alignment. (wants to take right turns). what was the fix for the launch shudder? was it "blue goo"? used half a tank for first 200 miles. that's not too bad. should get better tho. i was only able to drive it for half a day empty. had to put ladder racks and side tool boxes on saturday afternoon to get ready for work on monday. what a shame. just want to go on vaca. somewhere for a l-o-n-g drive.
I know i had planned for the worst and march 14th order accepted till 4-10. Hmmm 27 days to be exact from order being accepted till delivery. It helped that it was built about 40 min from the dealership. It came in alone on a truck all by itself. I am still in shock. My family all knew and i didnt till anout an hr ago when i talked to my salesman.
Damn its still just sinking in. Has 4 mls on it the salesman drove it around town a little bit ( i told him back when i ordered it he could). Now i have to have all my stuff added. YES NERF BARS are being installed for me.
Wow Tim its actually in. Amazing huh i really wont believe it till i see the pictures and see it in person. 27 days less than a month. Oh yea my last name i wont say but the order came in with the name Rabbit on itinstead of my last name haha Gm has some good people working for em
Vince - Can you give some more details on your install of the Bazooka Tube. I'm interested in something similar, but not sure. I've been reading the stereo sites, but none are perfectly clear on these things.
You stayed with the factory stereo right? Is the Bazooka self powered (amp)? What about its signal - did you use line level devices? Did you use cross overs on the other speakers to remove the bass from them?
If you don't want to reply here or think no one else is interested in the stereo talk you can send directly to me at gdn@ix.netcom.com. Thanks for your time.
Someone asked earlier about pushing the emerg. brake pedal down one click to turn off the DRL's - on 2000 (maybe 99 as well not sure) if you do that before you start the engine it will override the automatic lights - I think DRL's as well, but when you put it in drive you get a bell chime warning - and it doesn't go away until you release the emerg. brake - then the lights all come back on.
Someone mentioned before - http://www.truckautoaccessories.com/rd/ they have light override products, one if for the automatic lights - not sure about DRL override. I've ordered the one that will automatically turn the fog lights on when the headlights come on.
Oredered 2 and just got GM invoice. On GM invoice was -R6J Captive Fleet-Janesville under options with 0(no charge) charge under MSRP and a $16.50 charge under invoice amount. Does anyone know what this charge is for? Had this on both trucks.
I ordered 2 identical trucks and the truck that was built 2 days earlier ($690 SHIPPING CHARGE)and ship 2 days earlier then the second truck ($665 SHIPPING CHARGE)was charged more shipping? Go figure? Any ideals on this one? Both trucks are identical and built at the same plant.
Check the truck over. See if you can squeeze in a test drive before signing the papers, just to be safe. If your salesman is going to drive it, it might as well be you in it.
I just got the 2 GM invoices on my 2 truck orders. On it was - R6J Captive Fleet-Janesville option and under MSRP was 0(zero) cost and under invoice amount was $16.50 charge. Well I think I found out why my refurb stereo was returned the first time. Does anyone have this problem?:
The CD player doesn't remember where it left off playing a CD after shutting off the truck. About 2 out of 3 times when I start the truck with a CD inserted it turns on the radio and doesn't even know a CD is installed, the CD icon doesn't light up. I have to eject and reinsert manually to play it again. Yet sometimes it works fine and starts playing where it left off.
I guess I need to make another set of trips to the dealer to get a second refurb unit (display died on the original stereo). But I'd like to know if this is a design problem first.
In post 393 dated 17 March (Topic 1661), odenmeyer suggested that the loud whistling noise at constant speed in my 2000 Silverado (4 w.d., 5.3 L, 4.10 rear, regular cab) might be caused by a faulty ring and pinion gear and related bearings and bushings. You were right on. The dealer went one step further and replaced the entire rear end, and, voila, the problem is fixed. Of course, the dealer never agreed that the fix was suggested as a direct result of a post on this web site.
After 13 Firestone tires and 6 GM wheels, the dealer also agreed to pay for a set of Michelin (this spelling does not look right)LTXs and have them installed and balanced by someone who knows what they are doing. This took care of the terrible vibration problem. Coincidentally, I work with someone who has an identical truck with an identical problem. He, too, had the problem solved with the same tire fix. I mention this because I know there is a lot of talk about vibration problems with these trucks, although I understand it is more prevalent with the extended cab models. (I had a 1999 extended with comparable equipment and Firestone tires, and it was the smoothest riding truck I have ever owned. Go figure.)
I hope the above information is of some benefit to those with comparable problems.
I am very happy with the ZX3 pkg. The ride, when on, is considerably more stiff than when off. I haven't pulled my trailers with it yet, but I have loaded the bed down with 800lbs of t-posts and the ride control made a substantial difference in handling (for the better). The pkg has 46mm shocks (10mm larger than on the Z85 heavy duty pkg. I think you'll be glad you prdered it.
What the hell is prdered???? I just got one of those microsoft keyboards and am trying to get used to it. How about "ordered". I think you'll be glad you ordered it.
FYI for anyone considering installing these shocks. I found them at carparts.com for about $59 a shock (2wd), much better than the $75 retail on the Edelbrock home page. Also found a coupon in the latest Motor Trend magazine for 1/3 off your first purchase. Brought the price down below $40 a shock before adding shipping. Shipping added about $5 a shock more. Not sure how the 4wd compares.
Congrats...but as said..take it for a good spin...and be sure it's the one for you...and not something they found someplace. You said they had not ordered it...then all of a sudden it's here...and came in under a wrong name?....could be the case..but sounds kinda fishy? 6 weeks has been the fastest I have heard of. ...Rabbit eh??....what's the real name?..Bobbit? LOL
Quad, as for ZZZZZZZZZZZZ...yeah it does get like that here....Red is by farr the most angriest victim yet...who seems to explode over nothing...cool! I get maximum output with minimal effort!
...Must have been the only one woman comment that set him off?
Picked up the truck at the dealer, and they were able to get all the scratches out. All 50 of 'em! He thought they may have had to paint for two of them, but they worked on it, and all looks great. I'm not sure how they did this, and still kept the clear coat look so fine, since we saw white marks at the bottom of some of those scratches, but it looks just like new (since it's only a month old, I'm glad about that). We thought it was someone else's truck, it looked so nice. They even washed and waxed it. Ryan, be sure to look at your truck in the sun, at all angles, so you don't miss scratches like we did. The running boards look great, but wish we had gotten the GM ones (they didn't have them in when we ordered), since they have the runner matt across the whole top..looks like the paint on the edges of ours will take a beating, if we aren't careful. Anyone know if there is rubber matting for edges?
NO i said gm told me last monday 4-3 it had no TPW (i think the lady gave me bs after i talked to gm yesterday) I called yesterday morning on the phone 15 min the guy told me its built and was waiting shipment. Didnt know where it was they didnt have that info cause it was on the road. It only traveled about 30 mls to the dealership from the plant thats why it was delivered so quick.
Quad i am gonna drive it trust me all over before i sign anything. DMR ill be sure to check it over thats one reason my mom is going with me she will find anything that is wrong with it. He is driving it to get the bedliner and stuff put on for me so some kids dont come pick it up like tim said once. Tim actually my last name is Babbitt they just put an R in the front so i think its my truck and they didnt find it anywhere.
Im going to get it April 29th first time ill be able to get off hopefully. Its fianlly starting to sink in. Ill keep you all posted
i can take care of all arguments and disagreements right now. if you simply click on the link below...all your problems will finally come to an end...enjoy!!! (seriously, you need to check this link out)
Larry and Mike, Thanks for your response on the ZX3 ride control suspension. Sounds like I made the ride decision to order it, even at additional cost. Must consider the other half to reduce the aches and pains in the back. Made her feel good that I considered her in the truck specs. Bob

I installed my Husky Mudflaps today, it took about an hour and a half. Had to remove the rear tires, but was able to leave the fronts on.
They seem to fit well, and the instructions and hareware they provide work well. They are easy to install and should do the job.
