I have a set of Edelbrock shocks on my Silverado X/C 4WD. The shocks are much better then the crap (46mm Tenneco shocks that come with the Z71 off road package) GM installs at the factory.
The ride over rough roads & rough terrain improves 110% & the handling is much better. No body roll or front end nose dive if you have to hit the brakes in a hurry.
I recommend these shocks, you get the best of both (smooth ride & great handling). rcoos
I could not find a listing on Carparts.com either. I used their online chat room, told them what I wanted, gave them the part #'s from Edelbrocks home page after some hesitation while they were searching for the part #, and they quoted me $58.91 a shock for both front and rear. Once I confirmed they would except the coupon discount, I ordered them. I dealt with a guy named Chris.
They are in shipping now. Will let you know how they compare after I install them.
After washing, water continues to "bleed" from outside mirrors and ext cab windows. Anyone else have this problem? Any know fix or better way to dry after washing?
Here are tips I picked up... use leaf blower, attach old nylon stockings as a diffuser. Remove mirror section from mount section and fill valleys that hold water w/silicon sealant.
I too have a cracked slider, the crack is so perfect it looks factory. Its in the plastic, mid top. Oh well, that the ONLY defect so far! -scott
Just got off the phone with Hypertech and they said they started shipping the Power Programmer for the 2000 5.3L yesterday (Tuesday). This is the best news yet; hope to have mine next week!
Due to consolidation the few posts back are now a few hundred posts back............
Tim,.........I hear that rocket powered Silverado landed somewhere in the desert, the driver was never heard from again........probably eaten by some Wile Coyote....LOL
The slider window cracks aren't leaking? If not I'll just leave it alone for a while. Also I what mud guards are you guys using? I'm thinking of buying some from a company called Powerflow?? Just wondering.
with the Rocket powered Silverado is turning while chasing Road Runners...
It's kinda like a 60's Muscle car...does one thing good....go Fast in a straight line!
Turn?...Brake?.....don't think so!
Good old 4 wheel drum brakes!....I remember pushing on that pedal so damn hard with both feet until I thought my legs would never go back to their original shape!
LOL
....(I wonder how that poster that doesn't like the topic to stray likes all this??) (It's gonna bother me all night if I upset him)
I'm looking to purchase a Silverado 1500 extended cab truck and am looking for a dealer recommendation in the Austin, Texas area.
I have looked through "Dealer Lots" via the gmbuypower site and contacted a few dealers that way, and have contacted a specific dealer through its website (Covert Country, Taylor). The going is slow.. dealers seem to have a difficult time with email.
I am also interested in getting a sliding rear window and bedliner. It sounds like there are problems with the dealer-installed sliding windows.. is this correct?
I'd appreciate recommendations for places that can properly install a bedliner and sliding rear window as well.
I don't read these forums often and would appreciate replies by email (mcthomps@fnfi.com) if possible, though I will try to stay up with the forum.
1. I have had my truck 7 months now and was thinking about taking the emblems off. The truck has had a paint sealant put on. Now if I do this are there going to be outlines of where the emblems were? Or should I just leave them there?
2. I tend to find myself driving my truck with my foot into the gas quite a bit. I love to feel that Chevy power. I don't hold it WOT (I have never even gone WOT) but I do like to drive fast and accelerate rapidly. I was wondering if I should be cautious about doing this, and possilby drive more mellow, or if the motor was designed to be worked a bit?
2000 Silverado 1500 LS 4x2 4-dr Extended Cab Short Bed 4.8 Liter V8 Automatic Fleetside Solid Paint Bucket seats cd & cassette fog lights standard suspension 3.42 rear ratio
I've gotten 2 price quotes for similarly equipped trucks. One was $100 over invoice, the other was $200 over invoice. Are these good prices for this truck (in Texas)? I was really hoping to get invoice or below. Am I expecting too much?
blue, thanks for all the info it was alot more than i expected. like you i'm going with the K&N filter. makes sense to keep the factory air box. most guys in my area say that unless you change a few other things on truck that you won't see a drastic change in HP. besides that it's servicable for a long time which mkes a bargain.
obyone, my buisiness usually takes me on the road for a few days. besides i wanted to give TIM a little time to cool off. don't want to get shot by a SILVERADO ROCKET (kinda LURDY don't ya think).
TIM, a rocket on a chevy? sounds like something a NissaN owner would dreamup. what a LURD!!!
I don't like that Z-71 sticker on my new truck. It was all I could do to keep the dealer from putting pinstripes on it, and GM seems to be bent on making sure they put their decal on everything. Does anyone know how to take that decal off, or can it even be done without marring the paint?
Has anyone changed their locking rear differential fluid as a break-in procedure? The service guy recomended I change it at 1000 miles, and then every 12000 miles. He said the rear differential breaks in just like the engine. I think its a good idea to change it early, but when?
Its a local thing (indiana) i went to rhino one day and talked to the guy there and told him i am for sure on getting one he took my address and stuff. ANd bang i got one in the mail. Once in a blue moon they use to have them in the newspapers here. Go to rhinos website and request info i did that too maybe u will get lucky.
I changed mine at 6,000 miles - The cost of GM synthetic gear oil is $25 per quart. It took 4 quarts to fill it up so you can do the math. It is a total waste of money to change it after only 1,000 miles - it was really a waste to change mine after 6,000 but I was doing my Tahoe anyway and thought what the hell I may as well do both trucks. The owners manual has no change interval, so for me I will change every two years which is about every 20,000 miles.
I assume you have the locking rear end - if you have an open differential you can go 50,000 between changes unless you do a lot of towing etc.
I had removed all of my emblems after about 5 months of ownership. Figured I'd better do it soon before the Hawaiian sun gets to the paint. I also had a sealant applied at the dealer when I first bought the truck. After removing the emblems, removed residual sticky stuff with goo gone then Zaino..had no outlines and can't tell that they were ever there.
Wish I could help you on the throttle part...I think I may be abusing my truck as I hit WOT at least 3-4 times a day merging onto freeways. Just love the way the exhaust sounds as it reverberates off of the hondas and nissans that I pass on the freeway. I also have a '91 Nissan truck that WOT is at every stop with its 4 cylinders...truck still runnin after 130,000 miles and no problems.
who's your dealer? they must be pretty cool 'cause i never heard of a dealer that would put all the accessories on a truck like yours without all the paperwork done first. Hmm... have you even seen the truck yet? the way you've been talking it's like you have'nt. if you have then while your at the dealership ask your salesman to
show you the preview shots of the 2001. these will make you sick 'cause they put handles on the
outside of the rear doors. YEP that's right just like the tundras. Ughh. rumor has it that here in
CA a couple 2000's have shown up this way. leave it to Chevy to play with a good thing.
thers a dealer in manteca,CA that pulls that same B/S. marks up about 4-6K and tells people that it's for clearcoat, upgraded tires, delivery costs,etc..etc.. and the sad part is that most people that buy in that area don't know any better and buy from him. imagine buying a truck for 34K that has a MSRP of 28K. must be one hell of clearcoat.
Nope i havent seen it yet . Hopefully ill get some pics by this weekend or early next wk before all accessories go on. Ill get to see it april 29th when i go pick it up. Rhino is doing all the accessories and they work with the dealership and they know im good for it its not going to waste. They dont have to have the paperwork done. I know how much its costing. To damn much but its worth it. When i get the pics ill try and post them if i can get ahold of a scanner.
hope you did'nt think i was doubting you 'cause i was'nt. i just think it's great that we still have dealers that treat people like people. if you read my post to obyone then you know what i mean. you're gonna really enjoy that truck heck i'm still diggin' mine. let me know what you think of the exterior door handles when you see the 2001 brochure. 2 on each side.
Meredith. Sounds like a good deal, but why not get the 5.3 engine. I get 18 MPG for everyday driving and 22 on the Highway. I got basically the same as you are describing except I got 5.3 liter and 40/20/40 seat seat for $24,000 plus tax. Good luck.
I hope that GM hasn't done this! I can't beleive that GM would be so stupid to copy the Tundra.
The rear handles on the Tundra just look totally out of place.
As far as the Z71 sticker, after looking at the new "Z71" sticker - I'm really glad that my truck has the old sticker. That new "Z71 off road" sticker looks really lame, BIG TIME! rcoos
chevy4me, I don't think you can connect an external audio source easily. The CD/AUX button works with a factory CD changer only, and then the dash CD player is disabled. Without the changer connected the aux button doesn't do anything. I gave up and installed a second stereo for cassettes. Let me know if you learn otherwise.
Z71 sticker removal is easy with a hair dryer. I had my 4x4 sticker removed by the dealer. No big deal, they do it all the time. Do it while still new though, don't wait.
No one responded to my question about the CD player forgetting that a CD is inserted after power down. I guess that means no one has that problem?
The 4.8 liter is a good choice. I have the 5.3 in my 2000 Z71 Ext Cab and I test drove both the 4.8 liter and the 5.3 when I bought my truck. The two vehicles I was interested in were identical except for engines and color. The 4.8 liter was red and the 5.3 was pewter. The wife said no to red. I could not tell a difference between the two trucks as far as power is concerned. A six percent difference in horsepower is not very noticeable. As far as fuel goes I use the cheapest stuff I can find. The manual calls for 87 octane and thats what I purchase.

No contact....works like a charm...no towel marks.
Be sure you are not sending oil or excess moisture from compressor to the car though...
Works great on mirrors that hold water too.

100-200 over invoice sounds good, don't
go to Sequin they won't stand by quote
when check time comes.
MSRP $ 29,650
Dealer adjustment $ 7,499
Adjusted price $ 37,149
Salesman told me other Chevy dealers around town markup additional $10K. I told him that they were all nuts.
