did you put the tint on yourself or take it somewhere? Did you get the front (windshield) done also? Was thinking of doing this myself if it's not to much $$$
Today after reading the post about engine "clack" noise, my truck did it!!! It was at start up this morning. The noise was there until the oil was flowing. Come to think about it, the truck has done this one other time. I run Mobil 1 5w-30 and Pf59 delco filter. Last oil change was 2k miles ago. No other problems what so ever. Any suggestions?
Relax dude, man i wonder what todays music would do to you. Tim buy the new mission impossible soundtrack and play #2 great driving song (new metallica).
Does anyone wanna make a bet with me thats its going to rain here today??? Since i have had my truck either the day i wash it or the next day it has always rained and guess what i did last night washed it. Guess what the weather is for today high chance for showers and it looks like crap outside. It never fails i love spending 3 hrs washing my truck then having it rain.
Oh i wrote a letter to the bodyshop that did my work complaning about all the tape marks on my truck well i found a bunch more last night and another thing im pissed about is they took off my bedrail cap but didnt fasten it back down very well. The corner closet to the cab (LS badge) has no tape for like 6 inches i can lift that up and put my hand under it. I gotta find some 3M tape.
Someone asked a while back how many lube points a 4WD Silverado has. I need to do mine and did not see a response to the original question. If someone knows or their dealer told them I would appreciate a post.
I've been away from the list for about a month. I got my new truck and got caught up in my little world. Work is very hectic, too.
About 1 week after I got my truck, I lost control on a rain-slicked country asphalt road, did a couple 270's and ended up facing the wrong way in the ditch (on my side of the road). I was shaken but fine, as was the truck (just muddy). A Ford F-250 dually came and pulled me out with a chain. We laughed and said it would be perfect for a truck commercial. I'm nervous driving when the roads are wet, now. But I'm learning how different a truck is from a car. Wow..
teaboy22 (post 553 from Chevrolet Silverado - X) - My truck still has a tamborine. I haven't been able to get it to the dealership again, since it's been raining. I don't hear the sound in the morning when it's really humid or when it's raining, but on a sunny warm afternoon, it's there. I'm planning on taking it in this Tuesday to have the sound checked out again and also have the oil changed (at about 2200 miles, now). The sound is more pronouced now so it should be easier for the service guys to hear.
Brakes - I've noticed something funny. Tell me of this is normal. I've noticed that when I first get in the truck (in the morning or after a full workday) that the brake pedal drops quite a bit before it does any "braking". But after I drive for a while, it engages much higher (like 2 inches versus 4 inches). Do I have a problem?
Can i get that tape at any automotive parts place??? Thanks i gotta get some each time i push the rail cap down it pops up pisses me off. I had some of that tape on my wall holding up this pen in a case (dont ask it held the pen i walked up and took it out nice idea) well last night my mom tried to take the case off the wall and pulled a chunck of drywall off id say its pretty damn strong.
Merideth- is your truck a 2wd??? If you have the autotrac put it in auto 4x4 when the roads are slick works like a charm. I will never own a 2wd drive vehicle again unless it is a car of course.
Brakes: At first going over bumps and feeling how the breaks were really scared me but now i know they are normal im fine. I had to slam on em the other day and they worked great.
Check your tire pressure. When the bed is empty, drop the air pressure, better footprint, less chance of spinning. Lots of air in the rear along with an empty bed can result in extreme oversteer.
I would say try a parts place first...but a better bet may be an automotive supply place...like where they sell auto paints?
I have only used it on parts that it came with...never had to buy it. It will tear in layers or break the part before it gives on the adhesive side. Damn good stuff....could hold a fender on if it had to!
To remove....heat it up with a heat gun....but not too much!
It should be very thick and puffy....red...and say 3M...(duh)
I got some small roll (actually i could tape the whole damn truck together with it) cost me $9. I only need like 2-4 inches of it. 1/2 3M brand with red backing havent put it on yet its raining SEE I TOLD YOU ALL IT WOULD i kept my record going. Thanks for the help Tim.
A stupid question maybe, but ever vehicle I have owned that had 4 headlights they were all lit on brite,it seems on the silverado they are only the brightest when you hold the flash to pass in,when you click it all the way to brite they are dimmer than the flash to pass feature but brighter than dim,am I just crazy or what.00 1500 LT Z71 4 DR
That was an interesting sight. I know the GMCs made a little change to the front appearance of their pick up, I wonder if the Silverado will change for the 01 model as well. Have you guys seen a pic of one yet? Kirk, I know they make kits for the lights, but I don't remember where to get it. I'm sure one of the other guys will help you out.
I have read that "traction control" will be offered on the 2001 2WD models. What is the traction Control? Also the 2WD short box will be a composite box, also what is the composite box? They added two new exterior colors and an one interior color.
has a sensor that detects wheel slipage and applies the brake to prevent slipping. It's a nice feature for a 2wd truck, especially if it doesn't have a locking rear end where both wheels spin...
that engine clacking noise at startup? Only does it until the oil flows (done it twice now). The only way I could get the dealer to reproduce the noise is by leaving it with him overnight and I don't really want to do that.
I thought traction control cuts back the throttle...rather than apply brakes?
and Kirk...the headlights are 2 on at one time...not all 4. They do make kits for all 4...but someone else will have to tell you..as I have not had interest in that.
BTW...The Only dumb questions...are the ones you don't ask.
are you for real? are'nt you the one that has been telling us how to fix our detonation problems? the truck is a mechanical machine. it's bound to make some kinda noise once in awhile. thank god it has'nt farted or something or you'd really be crying.
Thanks for the lite answer, but I still don't understand why you have to buy a kit to make the lites work the way they ought to to begin with, and does anybody know where to get this kit and how much it is.
Had a traumatic experience on a ride called the octopus at kiddieland. Ill stick to bumper cars and the water rides man WATER PARK. There was a great water park in michigan but t closed down maybe u have heard of it TIM its a driving range now. THere is another water park/amusment park not to far from it pretty damn big too.
Applies the brakes when slippage detected. If the system is applied on each rear wheel brake independently, it also eliminates the need for a locking axle.
Here is an interesting and true situation. Our son had a 95 Mercedes with traction control and it would not go up his steep drive to the garage when it was slick. The car would just stop on the drive instead of spinning its wheels. I had never seen anything like it. He got rid of it. His wife drove a BMW with no traction control and there was no problem with getting it into their garage. No traction control for me if that is the way they all work. I'll stick to the locking rear. Bob.
Disappointed today to discover the power window on the passenger door of my 00 LS will lower, but not raise when using the control on the passenger door. (My wife discovered it!) Thankfully, it works fine when using the control on the driver door for the passenger door window. Just what I don't need is a trip to the dealer to get something fixed due to some assembly line worker not doing his/her job. However, it may be a defective switch since it will lower, but not raise. Regardless, to me it is under the umbrella of quality control.
Another thing I have noticed from day one on my truck is that the speedometer will show about 3-5 miles per hour for a second or so after I have completely stopped, then drop down to zero. Has anyone else noticed this on your truck? If not, then I guess I will have two problems to talk to my dealer about. Otherwise it seems to be running well, except for that small miss at idle that many others have previously mentioned. Bob
is necessary even with traction control - two wheels are better than one. These things are so light in the rear end. I hope they come with a switch to turn it off though (wish they had one for the ABS also). Sometimes you need to spin the wheels...
