2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
The price is steep, but he'll prolly keep it till he finds that one buyer wanting that exact car and willing to pay that coin.
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
If he had waited another year to buy, he could ask twice that price.
No turbo, no fun.$15K? Buy a used Mini Cooper S.
These old sports cars can be outperformed by most mid size family sedans these days. The only thing they have going for them is nostalgia and sporty looks.
I remember I took an early 90s automatic tranny NSX out for spin a few years back, and other than the "feel" of a supercar because of the low seating, cabin layout, etc... it seemed pretty gutless, probably wouldn't outrun a V6 accord, or an Acura TL.

Last I heard you were driving your "backup-beater"... a bor-ing subaru was it? Hey, it could be much worse. Weren't you contemplating a 'vette at one point? A mini still seems like a good choice, fuel-consumption-wise.
As it turned out, I would bet the bloke that bought your Scion is mighty pleased with his purchase.
JRW
I never thought of an ordinary Supra as a sports car. It would need serious suspension and tire work and intake and exhaust tuning---which of course is what a lot of people do to them.
Me? I use a Subaru Outback for serious abuse---for work, bad weather, bad roads and hauling. I have a non-running Miata that I picked up dirt cheap but no sure what I'm going to do with it. What I really need is another Porsche or perhaps a Mini Cooper.
Mostly I like cars that don't fall on their face when you flog them. The Scion was a fabulous little car, but when I ran it hard, it really begged for mercy.
1998, and sales of the S14 model were a lot lower than the S13. There are still some nice unmolested 240s out there, but they're all automatics with 150k.
Malaise 911 (sort of)
Depreciation
Not many of these survived intact
MB: Even though it probably gets about 9 miles to gallon, I really like it. Of course, I'd drain my 401(K) to pay for the maintenance, but it sure looks nice.
Audi: If the interior is in such great shape, why isn't there a freakin picture of it? No, we've got to have two 3/4 front views, left and right. Sheesh!
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
Ever seen one of these puke a front suspension when the ball joint lets go? I have, and if they are bad enough for him to mention, you better be very careful loading this onto the trailer in route to a good front end shop.
You still have that early W203? Has it been a money pit? If I was to get one of those, I'd seek a 2004 or later model or an AMG.
Local Lexus dealer has a 38K mile 99 E55, black with two tone interior, wants 23K for it IIRC...with a little negotiation that could be a lot of bang for the buck.
I have always liked the C215 too, it is elegant and a true hardtop. A local Ford dealer has an 03 CL55 AMG...cheap, in the mid 30s...I am almost tempted to look at it, but that's a lot of money, I think that could be an iffy year, and it is black.
There's some Audi interior shots at the link in the ad. Typical material warpage for a German car of that age.
with a 142k (88k miles) and they're asking a steep $29k for it.
As for my Benz, it has been a bit of a money pit but i do a lot of driving in it. I put about 30k miles on it within a year and a half.
Looking at the stuff that needs to be done, I almost consider it a project car.
So far I replaced the battery, crank and cam sensors, alternator, and tires which it needed anyways.
Items that still need fixing are the cursed power steering (rack and pump) as I have been driving without power steering for over a year now. Also my climate control is on the fritz, as it doesn't cool down very fast, and it alsmost seems like the vents are clogged up.
Dual zone not working very well, and it winter time it blows cold air out of the dash vents.
The vent on top of the dash that points at the windshield makes funny clicking noise when I start the car, but it goes away after a minute. I was told it might be a solenoid that opens and closes the vent. Prolly an expensive job.
I have some other weird noise coming from the engine compartment when running in Park, similar to before my alternator went last time.
My driver's seat cushion is loose, not sure if I knocked it out of it's brackets with my knees when cvleaning the car one day.
Also my display on the stereo dims at times without reason.
And I am starting to notice that my main cluster electronic display on hot days has a dim interrupted line going through it at the very top of the display. I know if that goes then all of my vital monitoring for the car will be gone, and it's a big and expensive job to replace it.
I just have a feeling that even if I get everything fixed, I can probably buy another W203 for the money I'd spend fixing this one.
I still love the performance and the handling, but hate the reliability. :lemon:
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
Was your W203 built during an Oktoberfest in the earliest days of production? What a headache. I can't say I would have put up with it for so long. I think it is cursed. I wonder what it could be sold for as-is vs after the repairs are made....there has to be a breaking point. I see C32s in the low 20s and C55s in the mid 30s - if I wanted a W203 those are what I would seek. I know a couple people who have 04-05 C230 sedans, and they are happy with them too.
I know if you lose your digital cluster, it's about a grand for the replacement part. Mine was dying too, but the warranty covered it.
Now, this is the one shifty despises, correct?

I thought about that. I am also at a disadvantage because of my mileage (182kms, or 113k miles).
Most of the early W203s are in the 50-80k mile range and they hover at around $15-$18k asking price.
If I were to fix everything and bring it up to mint condition standards I'd prolly end up spending $6-8k (the power steering, the cluster, the hvac, etc.) and then I'd still have a high mileage Benz that I might flip for $10-$12k.
I've had it for sale for the past month in Craigslist and Kijiji, as-is, and have not many takers at $9999 asking. A couple people offered me $8k as-is, thru email (usually just price fishing, no commitment), and someone offered me their 00 Focus plus $3k cash. I declined them.
I'll just have to deal with it. :lemon:

One for Lemmer
At least its got low miles.
Got me all excited and then left me hanging.
GUARANTEED to be the only one on your block!
Yup! Trash and empty water bottles just SCREAM class!

The S500 - master of the obvious, list all the standard equipment...no pics
That sounds like a pretty nice car, although I'd feel weird driving around in something advertised as a "Lipstick Edition" :surprise: I've always thought the '77-79 Mark V's were a real pretty car, especially in those light blues and greens they offered. But when I had a chance to drive my buddy's '78, I just wasn't that won over by it.
BTW, I finally made it to the All-GM Nationals at Carlisle and spotted your Grand LeMans! Very nice car! I didn't hang around too long, had my wife along and it was hot -- you must have gone on a break -- but I got a couple of photos. It reminds me of the '73 Monte Carlo my mother once owned.
Cool! Glad you were able to make it up! Glad you liked the car, even if we missed each other. Hey, if you ever find yourself going to another one of those Carlisle shows, email me and I could shoot you my cell #. I'm going back up there tomorrow morning for the Chrysler show.
Only 22k miles .... Uh-huh. In return, I'll just misread the price and knock a couple of zeros off.
Just in a Maser kinda mood, I guess.
What is something like this worth?
And a Ferrari for good measure.
Insert '80s generic theme music.

Its an S4 with a bullet hole (but I think the more uninteresting explanation is a hacker thief tried to drill into it??)
2001 Audi S4
6-Speed Transmission
Under 72,000 miles
$12,995
Needs:
New tires
Front Brakes
Some Cosmetic work
The book value of the car is 14k, but as you can see it needs a few things fixed up, all cosmetic, engine and drivetrain are in perfect condition. Just changed the oil a few weeks ago. Any questions e-mail me, and I'll get back to you within the day if not a few minutes.
Can you see this pic? Its still from craigs, but maybe ... in a roundabout way ...

Actually I think it's a VW 411/412 engine, but why quibble.
Audi 5000 -- why do they ALL smell like burnt wiring inside? Never fails. Some say it's the horsehair packing in the seats??
Pontiac Fiero -- yeah, right, the engine is seized but some oil and "hand turning" will fix you right up. OMG. Do people really fall for statements like that? A Pontiac Fiero GT with 5 speed transmission in excellent shape can be worth a somewhat decent price, yes.
Jaguar Sedan -- that is soooooo sad, that advert. Sounds like the poor guy will have to eat his entire auto loan--ouch!
Rolls Royce -- why don't you just climb into the ring with Oleg Maskaev and say "Yeah, he's big and tough, but I'm fast on my feet".
The speed and ferocity with which an 80s Rolls Royce can bury a middle class wannabee is truly an astounding thing to watch. One cannot help but sympathize as the sacrificial lamb walks to the slaughter.
Maserati Bi-Turbo -- fun car to drive, but basically...no...literally...UNFIXABLE. It just goes from one breakdown to the next. Low miles? Yes! But can you think of why?
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
The 2002 Maser, on the other hand, is pretty nice, IIRC, kind of a "Ferrari light"
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
Making some kind of racer out of it would actually be pretty cool.
This idea actually solves all of my problems with it.
No power steering = ok
Messed up climate control = ok (would pull it all out anyhow)
High mileage = ok
It's small, rear wheel drive, and not too old!
Because my car is pretty much hopeless for appreciation as you said. I can strip it and race it around on the weekends. And if I bang it up or if it dies I would sell it for parts. It would make a decent entry level race car :shades:
I have to get a new daily driver though.
I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind that idea either. :shades:
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
Your wife wanted that car IIRC, so she probably likes to have a high end car...if she wants another MB like that, find a later one or an AMG car.
And my Benz is an Automatic, with the manual shift mode. But for learning to drive on the track I can just leave it in auto till I get the basics figured out.
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
The '89 (which was cancelled) was to have the 2.8L v6 dropped and the Olds Quad4 instead. The base Q4 was rated for 180HP, with turbocharged and supercharged versions already EPA certified and waiting in the wings, both rated at 250HP.
Sometime in the spring of '88 a pilot series '89 with the high output Q4 was on the track with the latest Vette from Bowling Green. It was reported (Car and Driver, IIRC) that the Fiero absolutely blew the Vette in the weeds with its light weight and perfect 50/50 balance.
Shortly thereafter it was announced that production was halted after only 4 years.
JRW
As you said, I drove it in auto mode when I first got out there. That lasted all of 1 lap. The next time out, I did as the stick guys do, I took off in first, hit redline, shifted to 2nd, and just left it in 2nd the rest of the way. Of course, if I had a less torquey engine than the VQ35, I may be inclined to downshift to 1st on the hairpins. So I guess YMMV.
My next event is tomorrow.
