F150rules we must have seen different motors. the 350 in the Caprice had MUCH more lower end power than the 4.6. The 4.6, on the other hand doesn't really start talking till high rpms.
Bigsnag, Sorry, when you said Powerstroke would still be king, I thought you meant powerwise.
The same Allison has been behind more powerful apps than the Duramax, torque wise. Hardshifts is not what I would call a problem. If the RVs you've seen never made it past 50K, was it because of the Cummins or the Allison. Probably niether. Probably cuz the owner only used them once a year. The transmission should last 200K miles + under load. that is what it is designed for.
Again, I never said the RV's didn't make it past 50K, implying they died before that. I said I see very few with more than 50K on the odometer. Yes it is simply because most don't get that many miles racked up on them. Yes, that tranny should go 200K miles, so should a TH350, or 4R100, of any other tranny. I don't think any manufacturer thought, heck let's design this one to crap out at 36,001. My point, like I said before, is, this transmission while it may be a great unit, has not been proven in this application. Has it? Has it been mated to an Isuzu motor and been offered in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks before? No.
Speaking of batteries. I saw an interesting piece on electric drag cars. They raced a car modified with electric motors(RX-7?) against a dodge viper. The electric stomped on the viper out of the chute and beat it handily in the 1/4 mile. It looked like the Viper would have eventually caught up if they'd kept going.
I've worked some on dodge rams. Once the fan shroud is removed there is plenty of room to work on the V-8. The front brake pads have a clip that works really well to hold them in place. The 4x4 has a solid axel up front which is great for extremely uneven terrain. The gas mileage vs. horsepower is the worst drawback of the Dodge.
Guess what i learned at work today a Ford F-150 short bed cannot carry a 16 foot 2x6. haha well i got into an arguement with a customer he needed a 10 footer so i said we can cut a 16footer down because we didnt have any 10's. I told him put it in your truck and drive it over to our saw he went nuts saying itll hang off to much and his truck couldnt carry it. HMMM i even carried 16 ft deck boards in my S-10 damn ford owners hahaha JUST KIDDING i am venting a little. He calmed down after i threw some wood around and carried them myself and cut em even offered me a $5 tip but i told him to keep it and buy a better truck haha.
The last post was a true story but i was just messing around i didnt mean anything bad so ford owners dont take it the wrong way im just a lil pissed at the moment
F150, sure you have making a point to gain by making it up!
although I know how much 'worse' a problem is when its your own vehicle, don't believe pinging prob is widespread. I have multiple friends with new Silverados, and none ping. In fact none have any of the probs mentioned on this board.
I believe the ping can be regional, given the different air conditions and fuel quality that is very wide ranging across the U.S.
The Vortec engines back in '96 said in the owners manual that some ping is normal. My Vortec doesn't do it. I know probably about 40 folks with the older Vortec engines, and 1 guy had truck that pinged only when he towed.
These probs...probably about as widespread as piston slap.
Never heard of any valve seating problem. How can there be 'various valve seating problems over time' on an engine thats only been out just over a year? I'd be happy to take a look at some links if ya got 'em.
Here's my point: GM did not just release 'beta' engines to the customer. The engines are tried and tested over the last 3 years before they went to market. And you make the problems seem like 'blanket' problems, when they are in fact, very small in percentage.
Last time I checked there weren't any D cells in my V10. Reasons to buy a Dodge? Well for me it was the most powerful gas engine available, solid axles, ruggedness, and looks (both interior and exterior). Drove a Sierra for 11 years and have no complaints and wouldn't badmouth anyone else's personal choice. I do like the view I have of the roofs of GMs and Tundras though. (Man, I really didn't want to jump into this without my asbestos suit but I guess I couldn't let that one slide!)
me, i'm begging for someone who can provide adequate competition...cuz the tundra ain't even close. LOL!!!
oh, and by the way, since you brought up the "user agreement" i would reprimand you to be careful what you insinuate with that last post. as it comes very close to violating:
"I agree to disagree in a civil manner should I take issue with the statements of another Town Hall participant or any Edmunds.com, Inc. Editor or content contributor. I understand that civility and respect underlie the success of an on-line community such as Town Hall." under Contributions and Participant Conduct in the User Agreement.
Werking "oh, and by the way, since you brought up the "user agreement" i would reprimand you to be careful what you insinuate with that last post. as it comes very close to violating:"
So what is it I'm insinuating? I don't understand what your getting at! Please explain.
only you would know...why don't you tell me what YOU think i was begging for? hmmmm? after all that post clearly referred to you. so...why don't you explain. bco
based on what? i don't know if i have the energy to do this...what's the year/make/model/significant options on your ram and what chevy do you think it's better than? or are you taking lessons from rob and just whimsically stating your thoughts with the assumption people will accept them as facts?
I will admit that chevy and dodge are equal with good and bad points. The Tundra is superior to both in quality, fit-n-finish and overall utility. BTW, isn't it getting late, when's you bed time?
my apologies for participating. i'm getting out of this name calling game. if people don't want to talk trucks, i'm refusing to stoop to their level from here forward. again, i'm sorry...
Some good news for y2k Silverado owners. Many of the owners are having good luck forcing GM to buyback their trucks. Seems all it takes is proper documentation and persistance:
: BBB called- (ricsch) Tue 15 Aug '00 (10:29 AM)
to say they plan to set a hearing date for my case for the last week in August. It has been 4 weeks since I made the call to the BBB. The rep said the arbitrator could have GM possibly replace my '00 x-cab with another '00, which would most likely put me right back into a Shakerado-will have to see what happens at the hearing. Has anyone driven an '01 2wd x-cab? Would like some feed back as to if GM has anything corrected. I read an article in the latest "Sport Truck" magazine regarding a Dodge Dakota x-cab that the Kenny Brown Performance company has developed a frame bracing kit to stiffen up the truck-sounds like something that should be developed for the GM x-cabs!
A few Silverado owners have nearly problem free trucks. It also seems that the shake/vibration can be some what masked/subdued by carrying extra weight:
#180 of 184: No problems (rdve80) Tue 15 Aug '00 (08:30 AM)
Just made a 450 mi. trip in my Y2K 1500LS 2WD SB ext. cab. I could detect slightly some vibration around 65-70 mph, but not all the time. Not enough to avoid this speed range. It seemed even less when I filled the aux. gas tank with 40 gal. No back-end vibration/bounce at freeway overpasses or some serious road construction. No wind noise at hood, windshield or rear windows. No rear door noise. No dash rattle. No driveline growl. No transmission shift delays. Either I'm just lucky with just 2000 mi. on the truck or there actually are some good Silverados out there even though the posts may not suggest that. BTW, my truck was built at Ft. Wayne about 2 weeks after the TSB range.
we got a pretty good discussion going over on tundra vs. the big 3 continued iii if you'd like to check it out. no more name calling, etc. just descriptions of personal experiences. thought you'd be interested...

You never answered my question. What are all these problems you said GM has had with the Vortec motors?
Makin' it up????
and sometimes, yes it seems like they designed tranny's for 36,001!

I believe that it is possible. What I'm not so sure of is if you could do it with the dodgeram without the two "D" size batteries that goes into it...

Despite your dislike of me and Bama, we were right about f150. That guy is definetely BLD/dbhull come back as f150rules.

perhaps YOU have a dark secret?.....
come to my site little man...where meredith can't be your parent holding your hand.....

Rwell is just describing his negotiating tactic to get a free oil change with the purchase of his new truck
come to my site little man"
I never listened to him, but ol' Rublue sure kept him occupied.
The hours and miles between oil change light reset and the oil change light coming back on:
132 hours and 3,300 miles average speed 25 mph
133 hours and 3,450 miles average speed 26 mph
135 hours and 3,750 miles average speed 28 mph
Is anyone else keeping track of this information and if so how do your numbers compare? It seems like I have a trend going here
