I think it is an FSO Polinez, a Polish made beast derived from a mid '70s Fiat 125. UK registered in about 1984. Actually FSO were pretty decent for those Soviet Bloc manufacturers, especially compared to Lada
FSO are now making something Chevy derived, but probably coming from Asia originally. Any one know what that is?
Right idea, wrong car. It's a 1966 Yenko Stinger. John Fitch's version of the Corvair was named the Fitch Sprint, the two-seater mid-engined version was the Fitch Phoenix. It's fair to say that any of those modified Corvairs proved that GM left a lot of unrealized potential when they killed the Corvair.
I may have mentioned that my brother owned a Fitch Corvair, and I drove it extensively, while I also owned MGs and Triumphs and Jaguars, and the Fitch Corvair would have walked all over them. It was a wonderful car and very civilized--the American Porsche 911 (well, except for build quality).
Ah yes - this looks familiar - something of an orphan as it was eventually developed into the French model to the left of the picture (the black car), but was also considered for production in England (Kendall), allegedly in America by Kaiser, but particularly in Australia where it was offered for sale as the Hartnett. As I saw this actual car myself in September I'll leave it for someone else to guess.
I was hoping you might chime in, as you were there too.
I doubt anyone will guess it as it is a little too weird. It's an AFG Gregoire, which apparently had DNA later seen in the postwar Panhards, and as magnette says, was examined by others, too.
Well since it's LHD it must not be from England or Oz. If Fiat made something like this it would look more...Italian. And it's much too light and girlie for Germany which indicates, "I'm French! Why do think I have this outrageous accent?" Citroen already had a funny looking post war light weight with the 2cv so maybe this one is from Renault?
Edit: Ha! Just as I posted my Monty Python logic I now see that the correct answer is something completely different.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
I think you were on the right track. It screams "I'm French", to me as well. Might as well be wearing a black beret with a cig dangling from its mouth :shades:
Taunus or Corsair, neither of them were pretty. ON the happier side, most rusted away quickly enouth to be forgotten. However the V4 Essex engine and its slightly larger V6 were notable developments. Mind you the Iron V4 weighed more than the Buick derived, Rover V8.
The V6, fitted with double overhead cams, was developed in the Cosworth engine
I was thinking Continental but it didn't look quite right, those must be related, yeah?
It was only the first step in trying to make the big Mercs look more like Lincolns, less like fancy Fords, but mechanically it was closer to the big Fords.
Here are my guesses. An early, maybe 62 Chevy II convertible, a "beautiful" 61 Plymouth whose front end seems to be setting the image for some of today's lux cars, a 60 Ford, some kind of mid sixties intermediate Plymouth or Dodge police car, maybe a mid 60's Barracuda convertible in the foreground. Can't make out the maybe Chevy coupe (65 or 66) and a mid sixties Mustang in the background. Can't tell what the car is that's turning.
