    Must be Munich, ca. 1961-62 - the taxis are still Pontons, as the W110 fintails didn't come around until 1961. Other than the Pontons, I will pick off a couple of Ford Taunus 17M - the 1960+ shape (one behind the black taxi, one behind a VW) that slightly resembles a 1960 US Ford, and the cool funny faced DKW Schnellaster van kind of upper right between a VW and Ford.

    Red BMW Isetta on the left and an Opel Rekord in the same lane behind it.
    I think it's another tan/white Opel Rekord behind it.

    The white car disappearing ahead of the Isetta is a Fiat 600 - but given this is Germany I think it is likely to be a Fiat Neckar 600 as they were made under licence at that time.
    The tan coloured car (with a white roof) is a Ford Taunus 15M and (excluding the Neckar Fiat) I can only see one non-German car - there is a pale blue Skoda Octavia above the white VW.
    I'm going to Munich in a couple of weeks time on a quick holiday, touring Bavaria etc.

    I think this Pontiac is a 1947 model as the three trim stripes on the wing are different from the 48 - was this sedan known as the Streamliner?

    Pretty good for a Brit, yes indeed it's a 1947 Pontiac. The website calls it a "Torpedo" but I don't recall that model name.

    I think in "those days" the term Torpedo denoted a generic body shape, like "fastback", rather than an actual model.

    The term "torpedo" is a bit archaic even for a 1940s car. Basically it was a term used to describe very early cars that put the car's hood line equal to the waistline of the body. It denoted a "streamlined" car by 1920s or 30s standards.

    So if "torpedo" was used in the 1940s, they were trying to say "streamlined".

    Even the 1948 Tucker was unofficially called the "Tucker Torpedo" but its real name was the "Tucker 48".

    As I can't post a picture I thought I'd answer a couple more of the Munich ones.

    Parked up at the corner on the left, behind a motorcyclist, is an Opel Kapitan P - they were a bit wider than the similar Olympia Rekord P1 and had different detail around the headlights.
    Also we have two Ford Taunus 12M's - the car immediately behind the DKW van to the right is a 12M with the strange Studebaker type prong on the bonnet - from about 1953- 56, while the red car further back, behid the Motorcycle / sidecar is a later 12M from about 1960/61.

    Actually, it's a '62 Classic. my guess would be the Custom trim line.

    Yep I think you're right--I always have trouble trying to ID these off the cuff. They don't change much year to year.

    Growing up in the Chicago area there were a lot of Kenosha Kadillac's driving around (although overall Chicago was really a big GM market in those days). Personally, I thought the 62 looked cleaner than it's predecessor and remember there was a two door version that retained the back vent window similar to the 49 Ford's. I never understood the rationale behind the 62 though since the 63 came out the next year as a totally different looking car, which I thought was actually a decent looker for it's time.

    I happen to be kind of a Rambler nut. Traces back to being exposed to a '64 Rambler that my parents owned, I guess. The thing is, it was a V-8. Also, the auto trans was a three-speed. That allowed me to put the hurt on Powerglide equipped Chevys at stop lights. This was at a time when being shut down by a Rambler was a life-changing traumatic event. Anyway, i have decided that if I am ever actually tempted to buy a Rambler I will seek treatment.

    That old crock is a '49??? OK, you've got me on that one. I would have guessed that it was at least 10 years older than that, so I obviously haven't a clue what it is.

    The old car following the Ford is a Fiat - I think this is an 1100 - and although they made them from about 1938, that grille would be post-war, with those little chrome bars across it.

    Whilst posting this I notice again I couldn't post images on this site - only button underneath is one saying "close all". How are you all posting ?

    Yup, that's a 1949 Fiat 1100E. Here is a better look at one, you can see how they were heavily influenced by American (prewar) styling>

    ....can figure out how to get the formatting keys into a post. It's really unconscionable how often these failures occur here. Edmunds needs a new web service provider IMO.

    That's a better view... I have a model of one of these - but the earlier version where the grille just has a series of thin horizontal bars, and the one vertical one.

    I will try to work out the code for posting - but it took me long enough to work out how to use the buttons when they were here....
