    Yay I was close

I see an Opel badge on 7387, and it appears more upscale than most NA market GM products, so it probably is an Opel.

Opel Antara. This is basically what your 2008 Saturn Vue will look like.

Here in Aus, we're getting both the Chevrolet (read: Daewoo) Captiva and the Opel Antara, both called the Holden Captiva. I thought it was clever because the line-up goes:
    Captiva SX 5-Seat
    Captiva CX 7-Seat
    Captiva LX 7-Seat
Captiva Maxx (which is the Opel Antara; therefore it gets a better interior and price constraints won't matter because it's the top-of-the-line model)

I just don't know how it's going to compete against the Ford Territory, though... which is bigger, more powerful and with RWD.

By the way, you may recognise the taillights from this car... any guesses? image

    Opel Antara.

    Actually it's a Vauxhall Antara. :P ;)

*stammers* ...but... that looks like.. an Opel logo?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No idea, those tails look quite unique with that indentation at the top right.

I'll take a wild guess and say it shares parts with a Nissan of some sort, since they're partners.

I cheated, and we wouldn't recognize the tail lights because we never got the P12 Primera, and none of the P1x wagons either.

Nobody wanted to spill the beans... Derrado's wagon is the Renault Laguna II Estate, the first product of the Renault-Nissan partnership and platform mate of the third-gen Primera in Europe.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
the C2 Corvette-looking Maserati, we'll just have to make do with another foreigner.

My guess is that it's a Dodge Ramcharger, offered in Mexico only.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Yep. The 2-door SUV died here about the time SUVs became soccer wagons, but the breed lives on south of the border.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 269,168
I think the 2-door died as a result of 25% tariffs on 2-door import trucks....

    Add 4-doors and you have a sport-wagon, with a 2.5% tariff.

That tariff didn't apply to the domestics, but they died too. Bronco, 2-door Tahoe, Ramcharger: all gone.
  • derrado1derrado1 Member Posts: 194
What's up with the Dodge Caravan taillights? I looked at it and I was confused. I saw a Ram front and a Caravan rear.... maybe it's just me.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
It does look sort of like a Caravan from the rear. I guess the designers didn't want to go for the "pickup-truck-with-a-shell" look the old Ramchargers had.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,109
were cobbled together as cheaply as possible, so they used as many existing parts as they could. That actually IS a Caravan rear-end grafted onto it!

I think the main reason those older 2-door SUVs died out was because they just weren't that practical as passenger vehicles. They used the same-sized doors as pickup trucks, so that made entry/exit extra difficult for the back seat. And they were built on a stubby wheelbase, so the back seat was usually pushed pretty far back between the wheel wells, making it a tight, uncomfortable place to sit.

They might have been based on full-sized trucks, but they were really stubby. A 1996 Bronco, for example, was only 183" long. The 4-door compact SUVs, such as the S-10 Blazer, Explorer, etc, were probably better suited to the needs of most buyers. The full-sized Blazer was redone around 1992 or so, and was a bit bigger than before, but still used conventional pickup truck doors, making back seat access difficult. The 4-door standard-sized SUV's, such as the Yukon/Tahoe, Expedition, Armada, and Sequoia, are more like 200-206"
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That looks like a Durango because it also shares that taillight, or it did for a while at least. Pretty funny parts-bin sharing.

Its coincidence that the Primera III and Laguna II look similar - especially the rear of the wagon versions.
    Both pre-date the Renault-Nissan partnership.

The first car to benefit from the partnership was the current Micra.

Sorry, I've been away on holiday for last two and a half weeks. The vintage looking green Brit is an HRG 1500

It looks a bit like a Shuco tin toy based on a 300SL but it is in fact a Wartburg 311 Sports ca. 1957.

The Standard Herald was not produced for UK market - we only got Triumphs. It was Indian, and they got a 4 door, which was also not available as a Triumph.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,644
The designer must have been a 190SL fan

We will be getting the Antera as a Vauxhall but that badge is certainly Opel....

    Maserati Ghibli spider ?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
Only just missed this one - its stylish but the engine was a 2stroke (992cc) and they only made it for 2 years 57-9 so it is a rarity now - the saloon was of course a big seller and toughas old boots (probably made of them too) !
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yes indeed, #7397 is a '71 Ghibli SS Spider, possibly the most beautiful of all Maseratis.

Original Acura Integra ... mid to late 80's vintage.

My BIL had a 3 door version of this .. RS trim level. Bought it when his Toyota pickup was stolen, stripped and totalled by the insurance company 1 or 2 months after he made the last payment on it.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,644
And of course known as a Honda Integra outside of NA...

My father's Oldsmobile was an awesome 1955 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Starfire convertible. Wish he still had that one. My Oldsmobile was a 1979 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency sedan.

Integra. Is that a Rover badge?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
That's the Rover version of the Integra, AKA Rover 200 (IIRC).

Rover badge, Aussie plates (I think), I dunno if it is a 200 series though, I believe those were the Honda Civic ones

    Rover 400 or 416?

    2001 BMW 330ci/E46, 2008 BMW 335i conv/E93

  • derrado1derrado1 Member Posts: 194
Yep... Rover 416i. It was introduced in Australia alongside the Rover 800 (Rover's return to Aus). Rover wanted another car, so they went to good friend Honda and took the four-door Integra (Honda kept the two-door).

Rover died again soon after down here. It didn't come back until a year or so ago... and then died again. This time, it died all over the world.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,644
Yeah, Lancias....first one is from about 1950, second are from the 90s, and look very Fiat (Dedra I think).

    Skoda Roomster.

And RockyLee, Rover is different to Land Rover... I'm a little confused that you're confused, to be quite honest.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
It must be a European brand that never made it over here ? Or like Renault it was a flop.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yup, that's a Skoda Roomster, based on Golf mechanicals but unlike most Skodas it has no
    analog among current VW-brand models.

    Try another?>

Something about the back door reminds me of the second-gen Oldsmobile Aurora, but the rest of the car is too spiffy to be from GM.
