Lotus Europa. Apparently the most disappointing Lotus ever.

You just don't make a luxurious Lotus... if you want luxury, park a BMW next to your Exige.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yep that's the new Lotus Europa, a far cry from the firs Lotus to bear the Europa name.

From reading the reviews, the new Europa isn't luxurious enough to compete w competition from BMW and Porsche or light and tossable enough to compete with it's siblings the Elise and Exige.

look like Nissan hardbodies, but the domestic (JDM) version. We never got the 4 door over here, since it took the Jpanese makeers a long time to figure out that they would actually sell!

Yeah, the ones we got in the 70's were Datsuns. They switched in the early-mid 80's to Nissan (I remember at first they had badges that said Nissan By Datsun!), but they did it because Datsun was a US only name, and they went by Nissan everywhere else.

Either that, or I was wrong (nah, can't be that..)

But, the dead giveaway on the TR-4A is the turn signal lights on the front wings. The TR-4 did not have the lights in that location, along with the chome strip along the wings.

Well, you won't worry if the car get's T-Boned, it looks like the factory already did that to the side...
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    They're actually 1980 Nissan 720s. The hardbody was D21, 1986-1/2.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
We started with Datsun, only, in the late 60's, and they didn't start selling cars as Nissan until the late 70s/early 80s. At the time I thought it was because they were mainly selling small cars here, like the Cherry and Sunny, and the bigger range like 260C, etc were probably Nissans elsewhere, but if you only had Datsuns to start with, presumably with larger cars, then it must have been for some other reason.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
The Tigra was sold here as a Vauxhall, of course, and was always quite an attractive and popular car, I think, because it looked smart and sporty, was quite roomy for two, and cost nothing to rn because underneath it was a Corsa. The new Tigra is more like a sports car, in the sense that it is a two seat convertible, but again attractive, and is quite a good seller here, I would imagine, as there seem to be loads around.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
You're on the money Magnette, that is the 1994 version of the Opel/Vauxhall Tigra.

A lot of us on this side of the Atlantic can't figure out why GM bothers to keep the Vauxhall name alive. It has a very old, stodgy ring to my ears like Woolsely or Lanchester.

    Do you agree?

You guys are right, it's a '76 GP.

Derrado's car is an Opel Signum, which would make a great flagship for Saturn.

Late 60's Datsun ... either the 1600 or the 2000 Fairlady. My uncle had one of these and I really wanted to acquire it from him, but it never happened.

Regarding the Signum, I don't think that Saturn would benefit from having a Malibu Maxx type of vehicle in the lineup. My opinion, of course.
  • w9cww9cw Member Posts: 888
    1968 Datsun SPL1600 (or, could be a SPL2000??) - can't read the scrip on the fender or rear. I think it's a 1600.

I owned a SPL2000, commonly known as simply the "2 Litre" - neat car. An improved, and must faster, version over the 1600. The wheels were a bit different on my 2000.

Yes, they were also known as "Fairlady," primarily in Japan.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yep, the SPL 1600 was known in the US mostly as the Datsun 1600 Roadster.

but, it has the Volvo grille, or at least a rip off of one, so I will guess it is a DAF from back in the 70's?

I forget the model number they had for the Euro only Volvo with the CVT, but I saw one in NJ once (by Volvo US HQ), and I remember really liking it. I'm thinking something like a 130model, but not sure.

You have the right idea Stickguy, that is a Volvo 66, a badge-engineered DAF 66, ca. 1975 complete with Van Doorne transmission (AKA Variomatic or CVT).

    Alfa? No.

Perouda ... Indonesian manufacturer that sells in the UK. Looks to be some sort of badge-engineered Mitsubishi saloon.

The shape of that centerpiece of the grille could certainly fool some, however ..... NOT!

Yes the blue ragtop is a '67 Rambler but I think you're mistaken about the maroon car in the background.
