I know what it is, but I'm gonna hold off. An example of downsizing that was a bit premature, and not too successful. Great performer though...basically an intermediate car with big-car engine choices. When properly equipped, you could probably argue that these were the first musclecars, beating the GTO to the market!

#7790 is one of the hideous early-60s Mopars, '61 Plymouth something or other.

The back end of #7792 reminds me of a Daihatsu Charade, but it's probably not that.

#7795 are Ford Falcon Utes, circa 1995 and 2004.

#1 is the 2003 Ford Falcon Terra Ute
#2 is the 2006 Ford Falcon XR8 Ute

Both are sold in Australia and are reminisent of the old Ranchero / El Camino that were sold in the US. The Terra Ute kinda reminds me of the old Subaru Brat.

hmmmm, it looks pretty nice.....but now is it really the most beautiful. :surprise:

I honestly think I'd have to look at Ferrari, to find that.

The most elagant and classy car made in production is a toss-up between a
Mercedes Benz S600, Maybach, Lexus LS600h L IMHO.

I however am not sure what kind of car that is in that pic. :confuse:

That second picture is of something I've never seen before. Sure, it looks like a Falcon ute, but it's much higher, the front is totally different, the load bay is shorter.... it must be some kind of concept.

The blue one next to it though is a 2004 or so Falcon XR ute.

That's the new Alfa Romeo Brera GT, The drawing of the V6 powered hatchback approximates the production form, which will be different from the V8 powered concept car in your photo.

The Brera hatch and Spider will be a part of the US model lineup (2008 or 09)
according to widely promulgated rumor.

the 2nd picture is of the Falcon Ute XR8 X5 Offroad Package. I've heard a rumor Ford is thinking about bringing the Falcon Ute over to the US. I bet this thing could take over the Ford Ranger sales in a heartbeat.

Thats an 'Inni Mini' - Innocenti Mini-Cooper 1300 Export - and I would say this is quite a late one, so 1973-6. You can always tell an Innocenti from a British Mini by the quarterlight windows in the front doors, as the Brit went from sliding windows on the Mark 1 to full wind-down windows, but they didn't have quarterlights. They also had those on Australian Minis but there they retained the external doorhinges, while the domestic and Italian ones had gone over to concealed hinges.
I still think the classic Mini is one of the most ingenious and certainly among the most fun cars ever built - it's a go-kart with a roof....

The Brera really is quite beautiful, certainly one of the best looking cars on the road - we already have them here, but they are not commonplace yet, although I've seen a couple of them.

I was wondering about that one, the Oka isn't sold in the west, as far as I'm aware, so I've never seen one, and from the angle in the photo it looks like a Fiat Cinquecento for the front half, back as far as the b-pillar behind the doors. I just looked this car up in a book I've got on East European cars, and the specification is interesting. It is properly known as the VAZ 1111 Oka, the engine is a 2-cylinder 649cc unit which is literally half a Lada Samara engine, and performance is leisurely, with 0-60 mph in about 30 seconds, but it uses virtually no fuel and the really incredible thing is the turning circle - 15 feet ! That is about half a Nissan Micra, its 10ft less than a London taxi, as it is only 10'6" long it must be possible to park it anywhere,

You're right about the Inni Mini. I believe the grille is quite different from that on the Austin/Morris cars although perhaps not so much on the earlier Innocent Minis.

The small blue SUV is a Mahindra Scorpio (sold in Europe as the Goa). Sources say Mahindra which already exports tractors and farm machinery to the USA may consider trying to sell the Scorpio here.

I don't think Goa has been Portugese since 1960 because it was handed back to India, so there are no concessions to Euro crash regs - anyway, European cars have to pass them, so it would have to conform if it was made in Euro zone - having said which, I don't think we get this model in UK, although we get a couple of other Indian cars - Tata Safari suv, and until recently a version of the Tata Indicar, sold as the Rover Cityrover, until they went bust. Mahindra used to sell a Jeep-like contraption in UK (they used to have a licence for assembling the CJ series years ago), but it was a tin can with zero performance and terrible build quality so there can't be many left now.
We also get the Suzuki Alto built in India by Maruti - and I think that was sold in some parts of Europe as a Maruti rather than a Suzuki. There is also a firm importing Reva electric cars which do well in our London congestion zone, and someone imports the Tuc-Tuc autorickshaw thing -I saw one of those in Kent recently - while a chap was importing the good old Hindustan Ambassador a few years ago - (Morris Oxford mkIII with Isuzu engine) and I still see one of those around London every now and then. If Tata ever get their quality right - and I think they will - they would sell much better here as apart from anything else there is a large ex-pat Indian community who would probably show some brand loyalty.

I'll have a guess that the blue Chevy is a 1953 210, as I think on my monitor there is a bit of a chrome stripe on the side, which wouldn't be on the 150, I can't tell whether the 56 DeSoto is a Fireflite or a Firedome, but the Olds is a 54 98 Holiday - however I must say I can't really see them that well, even on a bigger screen so I will have to wait for the movie - what film is it by the way ?

I remember reading reviews of that Mahindra fakey Jeep thing back in the mid 90s CAR bashed it then.

If Chinese "cars" are coming to NA, I can't imagine the Indians having a big chance here. As I suspect the Chinese stuff will be cheaper, and price will be the only selling point on these things.

Mahindra is definitely bringing their vehicles to NA. The company distributing is Global Vehicles USA or something. According to Automotive World, they are bringing the Scorpio and a "Sports Track" like pick-up to the US and look to launch in 2008. They will be TurboDiesel power with 30mpg and higher rating.

If the price is right and built well, they could pick up some market share. I think they're nice looking.

It's a hideous '61 Mopar but not a Plymouth, it's '61 Dodge Polara 500.

Actually that hideous Mopar is a '62 Dodge. It's one of those prematurely downsized full-sized Dodges that was rushed out, along with Plymouth, in an attempt to beat GM to the market. Word on the street was that GM was soon going to be offering a smaller line of full-sized cars, as many people were getting fed up with the way cars were bulking up.

The '61 Dodges were still genuine full-sized cars, with fairly plain looking concave grilles and quad headlights, but with odd reverse-slant tailfins. They did come in two sizes though...the Dart lineup on a 118" Plymouth wheelbase and the Polara on the traditional 122" Dodge wheelbase. In '62 though, they shrunk them to a puny (for the time) 116" wheelbase, and I think they were about 202" long overall, whereas a '61 Dart was probably around 210" and the Polara probably more like 215".

As Darts, these shrunken '62's only sold so-so, but the Polara was a disaster. Bad enough that by mid-year, Dodge issued the Custom 880, which was essentially a 1962 Newport with a 1961 Dodge front clip.
