the backpeddling continues.......
By the way, if the Toyota pickups are such "death traps", why did you buy one for your kid?
Do not question your story, meerly QUESTION what place it has on a Ranger board?
The tire inflation on the RANGER is very clear:
30lb Front, 35lb rear for the 235X75X15 tires.
1. That side impact rating WAS for the Tacoma.
2. The Tacoma tested WAS the extracab.
3. Opinions fly but NO Tacoma owner has produced ANY FACTS to prove that the 4X4 Tacoma is built ANY stronger than the 4X2.
4. In that regard, I HAVE provided that the Ranger Supercab IS built stronger than the regular cab, 8 cross members vs 5 in the regular cab. 300% increase in strength is cited by Ford.
5. The Tacoma uses 5 cross members on it's extracab, same number as a Ranger Regular cab.
And finally:
6. You continue to cite EXPLORER statistics.
Why?
It is based on but a very much DIFFERENT vehicle than the Ranger, different engines, drivetrain, center of gravity, etc.
Toyota may be coming around though.... Yesterday I saw a new Tundra at a local shopping mall. The "Ivan Stewart Signature Edition" in total monchromatic white. Whoa!!! I mean ALL white, except the grille. It actually looked pretty good (did I just say that?).
Safety: Virtually all similar vehicles from rival auto makers use models that have higher ratings, a survey shows.

Thanks from a potential ranger owner.
kirbyt
spoog, why do our facts usually conflict?
BTW I did see a Ranger in the climb upwards, but he lost traction and had to stop about half way up.
For that reason I'm considering the Ranger 4X4 over the pricey Tacoma. And I like the looks of the Tacoma and their reliability rating. I almost bought my neighbors '86 Toyota PU that had 231,000 miles but decided that minor maintenance was more than purchase price. But that's another story. My complaint then is that the existing Tacoma really needs better access to the extended cab. I want to place my fishing gear out of sight and other gear without having to move the seat every time!
Keep up the debate guys, it's often quite informative.
Firestones on that Ranger?
6K, should make a slight difference vs your normal lower altitude. I find that my mpg is much higher here at altitude vs the almost sea level in Houston. Better by maybe 4-5mpg. Go figure. . .
Around 11,700 is my highest so far, off-road that is. . .Been to 12,260 on a sort of paved road. Not much O2 at that altitude.
Where did you go?
Motor Trend has a good article on the New Ford Ranger with its 4.0 SOHC.
Any comment on why Ford doesn't offer a manual t-case with a neutral position in "4x4" rangers?
time to drive on a time bomb."
Yep. Ford should have thorougly tested their Explorers with the Firestones, but didn't.
bus went out of control. It was later confirmed by
witnesses that the bus was following a Toyota that
appeared to have a green substance spewing from
underneath. When the State Troopers caught the
mystery Toyota it seems the head gasket had blown
making the road slippery causing the fatal bus
accident. Toy paid everyone off and made them sign
a no-fault clause in the settlement.
Toyota should have tested those head gaskets better. Of course Toy knows of their terrible side impact rating and yet do nothing about it.
On another note, I took off out towards the coast range early this A.M. with a couple of friends. Took an unmarked road off up into the hills and started into some fun stuff.. It started raining here last night.. Low and behold we come upon a stuck Ford Explorer. I don't know what this guy was thinking but he was in the wrong place with is P225 highway tires.. He was so glad to see us I thought he was goint to kiss us or something. He had been stuck about 2 hours and noone had come by@! So I hooked up some chain to my front tow hooks and yanked him out.. This guy was all alone??!! What an idiot to be out that far with no phone, no help, no gun, no nothing.....
Hmm based on something that happened yesterday, going to have to go back and check your posts blasting Ford for using a tire such as the Wildernes AT. Seem to think there were some good adjectives there I can reuse. . .
Hee, hee, this is gonna be fun. . .
Firestone Wilderness AT tires.
First one in this area that I have seen with them. But just curious, did Toyota get a deal on them to cut costs a bit?
Were you not a bit caustic spoog at Ford for using such a tire?
Hmmmmm. . .
I have to admit I was surprised seeing these on a Toyota...
I didn't say the guy in the Explorer was the sharpest pencil in the box...
Were you not a bit caustic spoog at Ford for using
such a tire" continue to surprise me. I own a Ford too but the issue, which you well know and understand, is that Ford had a problem with their vehicle and the Firestone tires but chose to continue to put their customers at risk and cover up the problem. The constant denial by yourself and the other Ford owners is alarming. Trying to include other manufacturers that use the tire yet have not had problems, at least not resulting in deaths, is pretty childish. What is the problem with admitting that Ford screwed up this time? Is it a blow to your manhood or something to admit that and not continue to pass the blame?
Your Toyota head gasket leaking stories are pathetic, That problem never cause a family to swerve off the road and die.
"Because we LIKE the ability to switch between 4X4
high and 4X2(pssst like putting an xfer case in
neutral) with the meer 1/10th of a second flick of
a switch. . ."
ANy TRUE offroader will tell you that a manual transfer case is Far superior. The fact that it doesn't come on the ranger is sad indeed. It's actually CHEAPER to not have the floor mounted t-case with neutral than to have a push button in production.
What happenes when you are in the boonies Cspounser and the fuse and\or electrical problems render your switch useless?

Doh! No one has died using the XT's on TAcomas!!!
Why? Becuase TOYOTA actually tested those tires on TAcoma's!!! Imagine that!! Imagine that!!!!!!!!
Ford has already amditted that they DID NOT test those firestones on actual explorers, just on modified f 150's.
Are you really this much of a dumb a#$?
By the way Cspounser....Gore has already won the electoral vote in Illinois, Michigan, California, the northeast, Wisconsin, and is now challenging Bush in Florida...........
I have seen no information that the tires were not tested on Rangers, and do not forget, this is NOT
an EXPLORER board.
I, unlike some, do not judge untill all the facts are in.
You try to say the F150 uses escort brakes when they're not even the same # of bolts or size.
You say Toy is using Dana axles and they are the greatest. Now you say Ford work truck axles wear out early. Here is a hint spoog, Ford has used Dana axles on there trucks from the beginning in the 3/4 ton and up vehicles. They've ALWAYS used Dana front axles on the 4x's. The 9" Ford is one of the strongest diffs EVER built. The 8.8 is not far behind.
Please learn about the vehicles your bashing, so you don't look so silly.
Allknowing... still see you have that huge chip on your shoulder? Huh? Enjoying that 3,000 dollar sticker yet on the side of your Toyota that says TRD? LOL!@! How many times have you engaged that locker? Or do you really know when to use that locker or how? I know your going to answer, I use it all the time... bull.... I don't even use 4low all the time I'm offroading... Nice try though.....
Just a heads up.
They are not really a hub at all. The are NOT like the old Ford autohubs at all. Do not ask me all the details of how they work, think it has something to do with the Dana (you did see me write Dana, did you not, something you will not find, as I understand it, on a stock Tacoma), I think it is a Dana 34, front end. I posted what it was a while back and as usual, no response from spoog.
As with vince, my hubs have been in water, buried in snow and mud. Ran em hot, ran em cold. Had a case where, due to my ignorance of the Ford 4 wheel drive system, ran them locked, in 4X4 high, on paved road Colo 96, 160, 115, I25 and Colo 470 to be exact) for 125 miles. I had been 4 wheeling and my relays in the engine were pushed up a bit, not letting me get out of 4 wheel drive. Running them on pavement is not the best treatment, but...
A year later, the work perfect. Select the switch, 1/10th of a sec later I am in 4X4 high.
I have heard of NO cases in many search attempts on the internet of any failure of the pulse vacuume hubs themselves. Now the older autohubs, well, they are a different story. Anyone with that system should spend $200 and convert to Warn manual hubs.
They work fantastic. It would be difficult to consider a manual xfer case after haveing great luck with this system.
Monument:
Well, it is still a National Monument. Come on down and drive the 8 mile of sand trail over to Medano pass, but you better hurry. They are closing that 8 mile section and Hayden Pass, due to that measure you supported.
That pass is fun, until they close the sand part.
While the '95 had a transfer case shifter to engage 4-wheel low, there was this "BUTTON" on the shifter to engage 4-wheel high. NO shifting of the transfer case required.
I believe Toyota dropped this system on later Tacomas, probably to save money.
The automatic type systems are nice. I certainly realize the potential for problems if an electrical part goes bad. But then you just drive off in 2wd or get the GPS out and walk out. Part of the territory.
transfer case is Far superior."
are you a true offroader spoog????
Check your e-mail ASAP!
Rick
Tsk...tsk.
Just another "lite" aspect of the Ranger showing that it just doesn't add up to the tough truck features of the Tacoma.
even guitar dude knows the Ford Ranger 4wd engagement system is weak at best.
