For all of you considering the purchase of a Chevrolet Truck or regular type auto. Check out Bruce Glueck Chevrolet and Marine in Jasper, Fl. All Chevys (except corvette) are at $50.00 over invoice. No dealer prep and all the other BS most dealers put you through. His inventory is small so ordering is pretty much the norm. Takes 4 to 7 weeks in most cases. When you are going to spend between 20 and 40 thousand for a vehicle you may as well get exactly what you want rather than something that has the wrong color or add ons and stuff you don't want. Check out his web site--Just type in Bruce Glueck Chevrolet and it will come up. I've purchased 2 vehicles from Bruce and and going to order another this Nov. He is the only dealer in the US that will get my business.

for a down payment to order...at least around here...they prefer not to actually.....that way you don't have anything more than a verbal contract.....as farr as price going up....I didn't have thet problem...

on another note....i got a survey about what's important to me in cars/trucks from GM...and have been invited to test/evaluate current/and new vehicles for about 2-3 hours....and get paid!

    can't wait....last one was fun....

But I like to do it the right way......cheapee contractors/builders use that stuff.....not me.

...I goofed...the survey is not from GM....ut they are asking me about mine......I hope the testing is GM?

I got one too. I am in the Atlanta area. Called them back about 20 min after they opened. Still waiting after about 2 weeks. The representative I spoke to took some general information and said I would get another call if I was selected. So far no luck. Hope yours is better than mine.

I am going to buy step bars for my silverado.
Either the Westin chrome plated stainless or
Back Country stainless. Does anyone have any
pros/cons for either of my choices. Thanks
    for your help.

    Check out

    http://www.picturetrail.com/bco

He has a set of westin CPS.

I have black westin nerf bars and really like them. I think either way you go (brand) you will be happy with them. The back country seem to be a little bigger (diameter).

I got the survey too. I said no I'm too important for this at this time. Why don't you try Tim? Gave them contact info etc.....

Had a horrible nightmare last night....I traded my Silverado on an F150 without even a test drive. I spun it twice within a few blocks. Had so much pitch and roll, and noisy engine and drivetrain. Also came with some kind of rusting under green paint ground effects scheme. Glad I awoke from that one. Had to look in the garage to be sure....

Any of you guys had a problem with A/C fan noise? Sounds like the the fan is bumping something as it rotates...only does it when on recir. (or at least I can't hear it on the other modes).

How hard is it to get to the fan?

    Thanks....

Has anyone tryed upgradeing their headlight beams with piaa or solaris products ?Are either worth the money?I just ordered the piaa clear fog lights #520 =$195.00 on the net,and was thinking about upgrading headlights and backup lights .Also if I replace factory tires with same size mud/all terrains will the different tread affect gas mileage ,My truck is a white 2000 rado longbed v6 .1500.I also have western nerf bars, brush guard, diamond tool box with diamond rail guards and iron horse black steel taillight guards ,I also replaced factory 1500 decals with raised (LS) emblems and added the silverado emblem to tailgate .Some might think thats too much but hell at least I know which one is mine in a parking lot there are alot of them around here lol...

    Hey Dave,

I, like you ordered a two tone truck in July. I just talked to my dealer, and customer service, and the production date is no where in sight.
I hope you didn't, like me, order a black one, because not only is there a problem with two tone, there is a problem with onyx black. I finally gave up, and my dealer located a 2k one for me. I'll get a 1k rebate, and a $500 gas coupon. Problem is, is that it has a few more options on it, than I had wanted.
Thanks for the info guys on the Snow Plow Prep. Now I just have to get those flares off!!

I upgraded my headlights with the PIAA and thought it was worth the money as is waaay brighter. I also added the headlight controller which allows both highlights and headlights to be on simutaneously. Changing to a more aggressive tire will cause loss of mileage as there is increased friction (traction). How much would depend on how aggressive the tread pattern. Decals?? I removed all of mine and left them off cause their a pain when polishing. Rail guards and tailgate protector are all stainless steel on mine. I guess it's a matter of taste, but there ain't anything harder and more chemical resistant than stainless. Was looking at a stainless rack and toolbox since it's a work truck, then decided I'll keep it as a toy and continue to use my '91 Nissan as one than can be trashed...must be that yuppy in me...

you have the exact same truck as I do. I am interested to see you put so many mods on a V6. My only mods are for comfort (velvets and IAS).So far, I think you and I are the only two posters willing to admit owning a V6 in this V8 dominated topic. Do you regret not getting a V8? What is your gas mileage?
  • steelworkersteelworker Member Posts: 23
I really did not buy the truck for a every day ride,I needed a house-yard truck but wanted 4x4 so I could get to work on snow days .I was looking for something used but at the prices for used I was better off with something new ,I had a chevy inline 6-1979 with a zillion miles -,that I sold in order to have more of a down payment. One thing (nerf bars )led to another and the truck got better looking with the more stuff I added (I think so anyway) my wife says I spend more on it than her, oh well tooooo bad) .My mileage is average for V6 about 18 -22,I am currently messin with the dealership over a rear end noise ,they say its a loose muffler and ordered another one but I dont think so cause itll only make the noise under certain conditions (going uphill or when in lower rpms to higher speed, 50-60)Im going to go along with them and see if it is the muffler (which I doubt)theyll have to try again ,not going to let my warrenty end.Have you had any weird noises on your 6?I think their going to try and stall but I still got 25k or 2 and a half years left whichevers first to get it right .Besides that I love my truck ,V8s are good if you need the extra power to pull or your into the speed the v6 aint a flash but itll (and look good doing it )get there and back.

I have noticed some tire feathering on 2000 extended cab trucks and now I have noticed that my 00 ext cab has begun the same thing. Does anyone know the fix or correction to keep the front outside edge from feathering, my truck has been lined up and tires rotated, and still feathers the front tires, what can I do???
  • jed1894jed1894 Member Posts: 337
What kind of tires do you have? My 00 model originally had Goodyear tires which feathered. The final set was Generals that did not feather.

My suggestion to you is to tell the dealer you're not happy with the feathering tires. They will, no doubt, order a new set. However, they will more-than-likely feather again. Ask the dealer to switch to another brand like I did. Don't let them tell you it can't be done, because they did it for me. You'll probably have to pay to upgrade to a better quality of tire.

About the fix: I don't know the answer to that for sure. The dealer also tried balancing, rotating, etc. and it did not work for me.

    Good luck....John

    ..average 25Mph....translates into city...

Tires.....some say off road tires can attribute as much as 1-3 MPG difference.....but I don't know how much of that I would believe....

to my post and to which I will add one more question ,what are you alls thoughts on fuel injector cleaner additive/carb cleaning additive use in newer truck with 9k miles ,not nessecary till higher mileage or not at all.Best preventive maintence for now is oil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles??,Im still used to messin with stuff(preventive maintenance) this 100000 mile before spark plug change is new to me ,guess Ill just have to keep the hood closed and keep gas in it .

For those of you that don't monitor the other threads... I won my arbitration case... GM has to buy back my shaking Sierra. If anyone is interested in buying some barely used (~1,000 miles) Edelbrock shocks (for 2wd) and VelvetRide shackles, I'll make them a package deal of $250 for both (including UPS). E-mail me at cwhitegr@theshop.net I haven't decided yet what I will replace the Sierra with, but I'm leaning towards buying a '96 Chevy like I had previous to the 2K Sierra nightmare, and then buying a nice car to drive, too. I'm not too sure that consolidating utility vehicle and everyday transportation vehicle into one is the way I want to continue. Kind of miss my old Firebird Formula 350 days!
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Chevron injector cleaner twice not sure if it made a difference but was cheap at Costco. 2/$5.99

Another consideration for the tires is the weight of the tire, being heavier takes more effort to move 'em. I disagree with z71bill. Tires will make approximately .05231145 mpg difference. The figure that z71bill posted was the mileage difference before and after a bird crapped on your truck.

    jamesk4

What kind of tires do you have. I had the Generals, in fact multiple sets of em. Each set feathered within the first 1000 miles and had chunks of rubber falling out of the tread.

I asked my dealership about this before I moved out of state. The dealership told me that the clicking sound was normal?

I have taken my truck to a Chevy dealer & was told by the service rep that it is a clutch drive system & it makes that clicking sound.

jed1894- is it one clunk or many small clunks like when you stick something in an already rotating fan?

If you change from a LT tire vs a P tire and run @ maximum pressure the Lt tire will give better fuel economy even though it weighs more due to less rolling resistance. Did on my Z71. Wilson

4X4, mine is a 4X2. I have no rear end noises, but I have the 3.42 rear, and being a 2WD will probably make a difference. My only problem has been a rough idle once and the check engine light came on - turned out to be a clogged fuel injector - dealer replaced and injector, flushed all injectors, added fuel cleaner to tank - runs O.K. since then. I get 20 MPG city/ 26-27 highway, but I drive very carefully - excellent commuter vehicle. I kept an old 73 3/4 ton chevy PU with a 454/400 for the occasional heavy hauling/towing jobs - save wear and tear on the new truck. I plan to convert the Silverado to LPG bifuel when the kits are available - tax credit should bring my cost in the truck down to about $9000. No vibrations or other rattles - but I drive easy so the truck gets no abuse.

The fuel injector cleaner question sparked this memory:
In 1991, a co-worker told me about his father who belonged to a Porshe club. A member of the club had done research and at the time Chevron/Exxon was supposed to be the cleanest gas available. I used it in my 91 Integra almost without exception until I sold it last spring. I never received a negative report from the Acura mechanic(s) who worked on my car about dirty/clogged fuel injectors.

Anyone, heard/read anything recently about who may have the cleanest/highest octane rating among the three flavors of unleaded gasoline? Unless I hear new information, I plan on putting only Chevron/Exxon gas, whenever possible, in my 'rado when I get it.

    Jamesk4,
Have you been to an alignment shop? Tire feathering on the outside edge can be related to how you drive, but also can happen when toe-in is excessive, or too much positive camber. The alignment shop can make adjustments to cure, but sometimes you have to find one that will "deviate" outside of factory specs a bit.

    Steelworker,
Bad port injectors are nothing new for GM. At least they are fairly cheap. If one that's gunked up gets cured with cleaner, I would stop there, and not get into the routine of using it often. If someone is choking on food, the Heimlich maneuver works, but is no benefit to someone breathing normally. Just my opinion. I'm sure there are others, but I don't like using solvents where there are rubber parts, o-rings etc., (even neoprene), as they degrade over time. Nothing wrong with a V6 either. They may not be as fun, but they keep $$ in your pocket. That counts too.

i'm not diggin' these amsoil guys a whole lot. their website and customer service suck. i wrote to them to see if they have a filter for the 'rado and all the guy replies with is a freakin' part number. so i go back on line to research the part number...no pic available, just a price. i'm just a little leary about a company that claims so much but doesn't seem to have much together. anyone else have good or bad experiences with amsoil???

    Chris,
What you are telling me is not the news that I want to hear, but it matches what my dealer was also telling me. Back in mid-September my dealer told me not to expect my order for the 2001 two-tone Silverado Z-71 LS to get accepted until at least November (2000?). Two more weeks and it will be November, I'll go bug my dealer about my order then. Mine will be the White upper/Pewter lower combination.

Hmmmmm, wonder if I should wait until I can order a 2002?

It gets a little complicated. I ordered mine for the Denali through an independent dealer based in Texas. Just so happened I did a search on ebay for amsoil filters and this person shows up. So I emailed her and she returned the email with the part no. (no pics) but the part no. matches what amsoil gave me so I ordered 1. I had emailed her again last night on the new Silverado filter. As of this writing, she hasn't responded. When she does, I'll email or post here. BTW, you said you did get a part no. for the new body style silverado? If so, could you post here and I could check on that number and see if pic is available. She is also sending me a catalog. Apparently there are a lot of independent dealers out there. Like its multilevel marketing.

Another thing, I had placed an order through their website and they had emailed me saying that they couldn't ship from their factory and to call and get a local dealers phone number. Sure do make it hard to get them filters don't they.

Cancelled my 2500HD order. Got the deposit check in my pocket. They were really good about it, as I had not be allocated yet.

Ordered a F450 4x4 CC V10 Bifuel Cab and Chassis last night. With the $35,000 tax credit from AZ, vehicle will cost maybe $1600 plus whatever bed I put on it. Hope the AZ tax credit deal is not retroactively rejected by our AZ Legislature. Also hope to see the new Ford sometime in the next year or so. With a 24,000 lb GCWR, it should haul my dirtbikes and travel trailer with ease. Figure to run around on the 28gal propane tank during the week. I will win the BIG TRUCK award at work. Just hope I can live with 19.5" wheels and 4.88 rear end.

Getting my seat belt recall work done tomorrow, hopefully, as they got the parts in Monday. 4.8L is still kicking butt, hope the tranny and diffs hold out for another year or so of towing right at the GCWR for my little 1/2 ton Silverado.

Probably gonna go join or start a new topic, "F450 Bifuel". Yawl have fun! The Silverdo topic has been a great source of info and amusement!

I've got 22K+ on mine and haven't used any yet. I have been considering it for the same reason (maintenance). I don't think it really needs it, but, regarding the fuels, I've always felt "how clean are they really".

I think you mentioned you used it twice. Any thoughts on which one would be better than the other or are they all the same?

The noise was like the fan was bumping something as it turned. Could only hear it when on Recir.

Anyway.....I called the dealer (2 dealers) and they said they would replace motor, etc. One dealer said it may be something causing noise that warranty did not cover. He also said it was a 2-3 hours job to take the dash, etc. apart.

So I decided to fix it myself.....I went out and looked under the dash and pulled, hit, slammed, etc. and then started up the fan. Guess what: noise gone. I then I'll write GM and start a TSB with my cure. Anyway, I apparently pulled or hit the thing that was causing the noise....it's gone anyway.

    Thanks for help and advice....

    John
