I ordered my "custom" tacoma about 3 weeks ago and they said 6-8 weeks.I think I am paying around 800-900 over invoice.I was being told by most dealers that I would have to pay invoice but being patient paid off.I have a question for the panel.Will the supercharger and ABS brakes help me or hinder me with any off roading that I may encounter?
The supercharger will not hinder anything. Just flat out hauls, and the torque increase is very flat and extremely usable off-road.
The ABS is a big pro/con area. Off-road it's not very helpful because you typically aren't wheelin at high enough speeds where locking the brakes will lose control. Alot of times off-road it kicks in when you don't want it to. I think you can pull the ABS fuse to disable it when off-roading. My Taco doesn't have ABS and I've never encountered a situation where I wish I would have had it.

$800 to $900 over should be about 2% over, great score!! As far as my time frame on ordering, 4-5 months is what I was told by my district rep. on ordering a RAV 4. They are built in Japan and I guess you know what they say about a slow boat. (I didn't mean to misrepresent the ordering time.) I also gotta agree with sebring95, the supercharger really wakes the V6's right up. They do tend to be sluggish with the automatic, so if you want tire burning torque and HP, do the blower. I'm not sure about the fuel economy though. The Tech at our store said he didn't think it should change the MPG. My T-Bird Super Coupe came from the factory with a supercharged 3.8L V6, and it gets 30 mpg. on the highway, and 21 in town. Although it is hard to keep my foot out of it in town, what a kick to drive. However I think it probably help with the mpg on the highway because of the additional torque, it goes up the hills and mountain roads (paved of corse) in Wyoming with little effort.
I live in Georgia. I've talked to the salesman about a "deal". 1.9% over invoice was his first deal. I expect to buy somewhere in Ga. for no more than $300.00 over. I plan to purchase next month. I'll then start dealing with local Toyota dealers for real. I purchased a new '98 Sienna van that I ordered for $300.00 over. But this time I'll check other Toyota dealers to find out the "drive out price". It could still save me several hundred dollars on the doc fees, etc! I'll post my best "drive out price" when I make the purchase. I was always told that Toyotas in the Southeast were the most expensive. I don't believe that now!. I'll do all my comparsion with the Kelly Blue Book invoice price. Good luck to all. mick
I ordered a D-cab for my wife from Toyota of Roswell (Georgia).
I used Autobytel (via Edmunds) and New Car Buying (via Microsoft CarPoint) to obtain "Internet quotes". I also went to Cobb County Toyota, my local dealer for prices, too.
The short version: Toyota of Roswell provided the best prices and was most up-front about the availability of options, etc than the other dealers. I have purchased three Toyotas from Cobb County Toyota over the last 5 years but was unable to get a better deal than the one I got at Toyota of Roswell. Plus Cobb County Toyota was only interested in selling me what was on their lot. Toyota of Roswell was willing to search and find the truck I wanted.
I ordered a D-cab at $170 over dealer invoice. Numerous Toyota dealers told me that in the South Eastern Toyota (SET) district there is a SET distribution fee. Each SET dealer ostensibly pays this fee to the SET district for each car sold in the SET district. This fee is added to the price of each car. I am unsure if the SET district rebates back to each dealer any of this fee. The fee for the D-cab was $550. I am unsure if the fee cost varies from car to car. Adding the $550 "fee" to the $170 "profit" yields $720 over dealer invoice. This price was for the exact color and equipped truck my wife desired:

I've talked to Butler Toyota in my home town, Macon,Ga. The "deal" is $200 over invoice + $550 SET fee as mentioned above. I didn't think I could save much by driveing to Atlanta, so mhammer confirmed that. I'll "order" one next month. I've driven the TRD and non-TRD. I wanted a locing rear, but don't like the firm ride of the TRD. By the way, the Admin. fees down here run about $325.00. I read the these fees were $495 in Atlanta. In 1998 I paid $100.00 for Admin. fees. Thanks for info.
The shocks are what makes the TRD feel like a firm ride, for obvious off-road advantages. I'm not sure on the cost of the TRD package, but you might be further ahead to get it (for the locker) and then swap out the shocks. I know a few web-sites that many folks would trade you their standard shocks for the TRD's. Installing the shocks is pretty simple, and that option might be cheaper than adding a locker later on.
I bought my double cab about 3 weeks ago. So far, I love it. It is a prerunner with trd package. I got 15 miles on the first tank, and 21.5 on the second. My problem now is the dealer added $795 for glass etching which I didn't want. I have been trying to get a reply out of them for a week now. The finance girl didn't give me a copy of the contract. I called her the next day when I realized it wasn't in the envelope. She said it would be mailed to me from the bank. Never was. Finally after 3 weeks, I got it from her in the mail. That is when I noticed she added the $795 to the sticker price. She also didn't give me any paperwork for "glass etching". I am pissed. I have already talked to my attorney and we are ready to take it to the next level if they don't issue a refund. They also haven't sent me a refund for a payoff difference. A payment was auto debited before they made the payoff. They paid off the new lower amount and haven't sent me a refund for the difference. If anyone is shopping at toyota of richardson, I would think twice.
Delivery of my Prerunner D-cab with Limited Package et al is delayed.
Delivery to port was 12-31 followed by a dealer availability of 7-10 days later when the order was placed on 12-19. Delivery to port moved to 1-8 when I checked with Tammy at Toyota of Roswell on 1-2. Last night Tammy told me that port delivery now shows as 1-13 on the "latest computer run". I don't have much confidence in any date her computer spits out now.
The good news is that Tammy says the port has agreed to turn our D-cab within 24 hours of receipt instead of 7-10 days as originally expected.
Tammy says she called the port to obtain info on the delay. The port called the plant at Fremont, CA and learned there is a shortage on some item associated with the Limited Package. She could provide me no additional info. (Don't know why a Toyota dealer can not directly call the plant as a Ford or other "domestic" dealer does. Not sure if it is a Toyota policy or a SET district policy)
My wife and I had scheduled to take a long weekend trip after the original delivery date. Tammy has volunteered to furnish us a free 2001 loaner auto to use during our 1000-mile trip rather than put the mileage on our trade-in SUV.
Perhaps we will take delivery before month-end. We'll see
Considering that the Taco is built in Freemont, CA, does Toyota have a program that would allow you to pick up your Taco at the factory and drive it home? Just wondering.
There might be, but I hear there's a $2000 entrance fee just for the plant, not counting the price to park. And when you get your truck back to Texas, you'll have over a 1000 miles on it.
Seriously, I think I'll find out about this. It might come in handy the next time I want to buy a Tacoma and get told to take what they got here in Texas or don't take anything at all.
Thanks to everyone for all of the info that I have been reading about the double cab. lots of good stuff. it sounds like everyone has been pretty pleased with the vehicle overall but it also sounds like the dealers have been like having a root canal. one question I have is there has been some discussion about some type of a topper for this truck. is that a regular topper or is that a tuneau cover? has anyone been able to find a tuneau cover for this truck and if so what is the price those are going for?
The tops for the Double Cabs are made by Snugtop. They are located in Long Beach California, and their phone # is 562-432-5454. They should have suppliers in most areas. It seems like I've read that they are note available in the south eastern US. (not 100% sure though) I was originally told that they were a port installed option only, but I decided to call Snugtop myself to see if I could get one for a customer that had already taken delivery of his truck. They said since the closest dealer was nearly 650 miles away they could freight one directly to the store. I know that Snugtop does have suppliers in Florida. Here are a few dealers there. I spent most of yesterday getting the "real" dealer invoice. My local dealer, Butler Toyota in Macon,Ga. Will sell me a Double Cab at his invoice. Roswell Toyota (Erik) first said $500 over invoice then called me back and said $100 over! I told him no thanks. I called Marietta Toyota in near Atlanta, they will sell me one at their invoice. Drive out price figured out to be $300 less than drive out price in Macon and both were at "dealer invoice" You figure. But my Macon dealer won't budge. I don't think it's worth driving 120 miles to save $300 over a 4 year car loan. Bottom line is I'm still at least a month or 2 away from final purchase. Butler Toyota said "when I'm ready, he's ready!" Good luck. mick

It is really interesting to hear you folks go through the same material we covered at the Quad site 6 months ago. First year issue ,who's discounting what and how much are all familiar talk. So far at 20,000 miles my Quad is running great. have owned 4-5 toyotas and with some trepidation I bought the dodge. No regrets. It is roomy,has a V8 and is getting 20 mpg.(5spd,regular tires) I will admit the toyota is interesting but ill wait a year or two before i jump ship
I had similar problems with GM and was getting nowhere with their customer service department. I made a complaint with the BBB on-line and received a call from a different person at GM customer service about two days later. My situation was cleared up VERY quickly. I'd suggest trying this before retaining an attorney as the BBB is free!
I though I was completely sold on getting another Toyota. My ste-daughter has a new quad 4x4. We're going to do some very close comparisons (again). Since Dodge still has $1000 rebate plus that Farm Bureau $500 rebate. The prices are the same. I've never owned a Dodge. If I go Dodge I'm going to purchase an extended warrentee. Any other thoughts? I'm not going to get a 4x4. And the 4.7V8 get about the same mileage as the V6 Tacoma? mick
I am still in the investigative portion of the 'buy a new truck' show. I looked up the wholesale difference in getting a 'Limited' doublecab versus an SR5 and the difference wholesale isn't really that much(less than $1,000). I plan to get my Toyota $500 over invoice in the spring. So, what I want to read are some reviews, opinions, regrets, glee, etc. from folks that have chosen one model or the other. Also, can I get an SR5 with color-keyed fender flares?
I owned a 00 Dodge Dak. QC for 10 months / 13000 miles before I traded it in on a Toyota Double cab. I'd never owned a Dodge either, and won't again. Granted, lots of people love them, and my awful dealer contributed mightily to my dissatisfaction (Oakland, CA), but the truck wasn't so great, either. 4.7 l auto, 4x4. Never got over 14.5 mpg, even when 'fully broken in at 10,000 miles+'. Had 2 recalls fixed - check for front wheels that might fall off and repair defect in trans. filler tube that may start fires. Also in for several tsb's - squeaking seat, weatherstripping falling off doors, grinding noise from front wheel (never fixed, 4 visits), etc.
Bought the Toyota the day after Thanksgiving. Very happy with it. Just as roomy / confortable inside ( 3" narrower, so 3 adults across in back might be tighter), mileage is 18.5 to 21 (prerunner v6), load capacity is actually 200lbs more. Bed is only 1.5" shorter, leg room is 1" less in front (I'm 6'3 and fit fine), the same in back; but overall the truck is 13" shorter! How long does a hood need to be, anyway? I don't tow anything heavier than a 2500# compressor, so that wasn't an issue, and the Dodge has a speed limiter at 96 mph so you can't even put those extra horses to use for fun.

Two of the other auto pricing sites that I have been to mention something about color limitations with the Limited package as a part of the auto configure utility that they used there. My question is, Can I get a Limited 4WD d-cab in super white or is this just some type of glitch? I'm going to my local dealer this weekend to try to find out how difficult it will be to get what I want and what price they will want for it. I'm looking for the above mentioned vehicle with TRD and ABS. There doesn't seem to be anything like that near the NW GA area, so I'll probably end up ordering it from a dealer that gives me a good deal.
If you get the colorkeyed option on the SR5, the fender flares will be painted to match. I got the black prerunner with TRD and color keyed package and love it. Rides very nice, gets decent mileage, the back seat is very comfortable. I love this truck! I have owned a chevy Z-71 ext. cab, dodge ram 4x4 ext cab and a jeep sahara. Once I got over the bigger is better mentality, I came to the conclusion the toyota double cab is a wonderful truck that fits many needs well.
In regards to glass etching/theftgaurd,(see post above) The dealership agreed to refund $450 of the $795 charged. I accepted this offer because I didn't want to drag this ordeal out. It's still a rip off at $345 but it least it's not $795.
Since you are in the Bay area, and into these doublecabs, keep your eyes open for me because I would prefer to buy a used one(4x4) with alot of the options(canopy, bedliner, etc.)already on. I will be gone for 6 weeks or so, but will tune into this site on my return. Thanks!
Ive owned a 79, an 85 diesel and 93 xcab Toyota pickups. I've got 165,000 km on the 93 and apart from exhaust, brakes, oils and tuneups I haven't spent a penny on it. I thought I would try a Dakota Q-cab now...cheaper and great finance rates here in Canada (0%). Ive always had fantastic luck with Toyota and great dealer relationships but I thought I couldn't pass up the Q-cab bargain. Well, after getting jerked around by my local Chrysler dealer for a week who signed a contract and refused to honour it after being unable to locate the truck I wanted, I told them to take a hike. I marched into the Toyota dealer and plunked down my money on a 01 Tacoma double cab, 4x2, TRD. I payed $4000 more (Can. funds) for the Toyota and didnt get nearly the same financing deal. However, the relief I have at knowing that I have bought a sure thing with the Toyota cannot be measured by dollars alone. I guess I am relieved that I was mistreated by Chrysler because it gave me pause for thought. I am very happy to remain a Toyota owner and I'm shaking all over to take delivery of my new truck!
This is slightly off topic, but still related to Tacomas. Has anyone ever tried to install a 1.5 DIN (one of those larger head units designed to fit a GM or Chrysler product) head unit into the double-DIN dash opening of their Tacoma? If yes, did you find a special installation kit for this, or did you have to custom fit it yourself? Thanks. - Jeffer2

How many dealers did you go to? I went to Kirkland and Bellevue, only found 1 truck. No wonder they want so much. I'll probably try internet to shop once I am ready to purchase. Thanks for the info though. How come the TMV says you can get about $500 over invoice. Maybe Edmunds TMV was based on all Tacoma models.
As someone who test drove both an SR-5 and a limited package - I would say that the main difference lies with (1) the chrome trim on the front fender and bumpers of the ltd package and (2) the sport bucket seats found in the ltd package (neither of which I believe come standard with the SR-5 package). The limited package gives you more bells and whistles such as leather interior trim and an overall more "luxury car-like" interior. I couldn't be happier with with my limited double-cab. Funny to see that many double-cab owners like myself also purchased from Toyota of Roswell . Very little haggling and I got for about $200 over invoice.
I would like to purchase a doublecab but may wait for 2002 hope that toyota makes some changes like adding blue to the exterior colors,rear disc brakes,add gauges for oil pressure & alt. output,increase the displacement to about 4.2 litres or install the supercharger at the factory as an option like nissan does. keeping my fingers crossed!

You're looking at about a $2k diff on invoice and a $2.5k difference on the sticker. As far as the colors available with the limited package go - you have a choice between "Sand Pearl" black, "Lunar Mist" silver, and "Impulse" Red. I went with black but think they all look good. Couple words of advice for you - familiarize yourself with available options by visiting kelleybluebook.com and buy at the end of the month when the dealerships are trying to get that last sale on the books. Just gives you a little edge over the dealership. Good luck.

I went with the Prerunner V6 4x2 - couldn't justify paying the extra amount for 4wd when I spend as little time offroad as I do. Never had a 2wd truck before (have had 4runners, Pathfinders) but this 2wd really feels tough. I did however get the TRD Off Road Package with the Bilstein shocks and the limited slip differential so that if I happen to get in a tight spot I have a better chance of getting out. I think you'll be pleased if you opt for the Tacoma - Toyota is solid all across the board.
I have been interested in this truck for a little while now, but only recently began to look at local dealers. Looks like the base MSRP is around $18715. Does anyone know if this includes A/C? I have read the 2001 Tacoma brochure from the dealer, and it looks like it does. I am in the northern virginia area, and it seems like most of the dealers around here only stock double cabs that have alot of options on them. Does anyone in this area know how to get one of these "couple hundred dollars over invoice" deals that I have read about in the above previous posts? Also, does Toyota have an online inventory system that allows people to check each dealers stock, the way that GM does? Thanks!
I have had a lot of folks lately seeking the Double Cab PreRunners and the Doublecab 4WDs. I am a dealer in Southern California who gets a lot of these "doublecab truck" models. I hear thru my email daily about dealers charging MSRP (yikes!!) and also telling people that they cannot get a truck built the way they want it built. That's nuts and very untrue! I special order-build these constantly for folks.
I am also way off MSRP on all double cabs due to the fact that I fleet so many vehicles a year, my carte-blanche with the trucks works in your favor.
While I have no need to "troll" here for business at all, because I have enough email and prior client business on Tacomas (especially the 4 doors!!) coming out my ears, I am active in a number of forums here (Highlander, Sequoia, Landcruiser, etc) as well as tundrasolutions.com and it pains me to see folks who can't get a fair deal on their trucks, or can't get their trucks the way they want them to be built.
I have been looking hard at the Tacoma Double Cab. I just noticed that the 2001 Tacoma "X-Cab" got only 1 Star for side impact crash test. This is horrible. Is there any possibility the Double Cab gets better?? This just may ruin it for me since I would buy it for my 1 1/2 year old in mind
I own a 1995 Taco ma, v-6, 3.4 liter, 4-wheel drive, manual. Looking at the owner's manual, looks like I can tow up to about 5,000 bbs, at least in theory. I'm looking at towing a boat that, including trailer weight, motor, etc., may weigh up to maybe 3,000-3,500 bbs. I'll be towing it up and down through some mountain passes (I live in Alaska) and wonder if this is a safe load to tow. Also concerned about wear on brakes, clutch, engine. Anyone with experience in this matter? Thanks. Scott
I am very interested in purchasing a D cab, but I hate the comfort level of the seats in the Toyota pickups. They are too low, too short, and poorly padded. Has anyone found a solution for improving the comfort level of their seats? I like everything else about the truck. Thanks for any suggestions. Harold
I believe the crash tests were performed on a 2wd, which sits very low to the ground. I believe the "bumper" actually hit above the door window frame. The 4X4/Prerunner sits much higher so the hit comes into the safety zone of the door. I've seen pics/results of a few side impact with 4x4 tacos, and injuries were minimal. A couple were hit very low/hard and flipped the truck over which resulted in alot of damage but no injuries. A rollover in that situation isn't bad if everyone is belted in.
On the seats, have you tried the limited? I don't really like the sr5/lx seats but the limited are comfortable to me. I've heard people say the reverse also, so alot has to do with your size/etc. I have the sr5/lx seats in mine, but added some lumbar padding and a seat cover which helped tremendously. I have back problems so I'm kinda particular.

I don't have one of the Snugtops you asked about (nor do I have a DC Taco yet, I'm looking) but the Taco brochure shows a few pics with the snugtop and it does look like it has sliding windows. Someone from an earlier post said they got theirs from the dealer for about $1400 installed if I remember correctly. Also, you could check out their website at www.snugtop.com

So what is the deal with Edmunds TMV value for this truck? As was stated previously, it appears that it is approx. $500 over invoice, but I certainly have not found a dealer in the Washingon, DC area to give me nearly that good of a deal.

Even though, I have a Tundra, i still have the same engine, the V6. I have a 20 foot camper that tows with ease that is wet around 3800lbs (estimated). I am currently deciding to get a even bigger trailer. However, for the weight you are wanting to pull, you should have no problems. I have noticed no engine or brake wear. However, I have a little clutch wear, but it is mostly attributed to my own fault of learning to tow in general. I am much better at it now. It was just a little nerve racking at first. You will have a much shorter wheelbase than I do, so I would have a swaybar handy. I have one, but i haven't used it yet.
I'm the one with the snugtop shell. The front has a slider which matches up with the truck's slider, the side windows are 2-part. The front 2/3 is fixed, the rear 1/3 pops out like the back windows on an expedition, etc. Sides and back are tinted, slider is not.
I'm a bit surprised people don't like the seats. I'm just over 6'2", 210 lbs, and the seats are fine for me. The longest trip I've been on was about 5 hours, but no complaints from me that day or any other. Ive had the truck about 6 weeks and 3500 miles...
Local dealer tells me that he will give me a Double Cab Prerunner for invoice + 3%. The truck would have TRD, SR5, cruise, Power Pkg, and sliding window. He is asking about $21,500. It seems a couple hundred off true invoice for the given options. Is this what other people are paying, invoice +3% ? Has anyone tried to use the SR5 option package savings (I think it knocks about $550 off of MSRP?) to negotiate the price even more? Thanks for any input!

dealers for real. I purchased a new '98 Sienna
van that I ordered for $300.00 over. But this time
I'll check other Toyota dealers to find out the
"drive out price". It could still save me several
hundred dollars on the doc fees, etc!
I'll post my best "drive out price" when I make the purchase. I was always told that Toyotas in the Southeast were the most expensive. I don't
believe that now!.
I'll do all my comparsion with the Kelly Blue Book
invoice price.

I used Autobytel (via Edmunds) and New Car Buying (via Microsoft CarPoint) to obtain "Internet quotes". I also went to Cobb County Toyota, my local dealer for prices, too.
The short version: Toyota of Roswell provided the best prices and was most up-front about the availability of options, etc than the other dealers. I have purchased three Toyotas from Cobb County Toyota over the last 5 years but was unable to get a better deal than the one I got at Toyota of Roswell. Plus Cobb County Toyota was only interested in selling me what was on their lot. Toyota of Roswell was willing to search and find the truck I wanted.
I ordered a D-cab at $170 over dealer invoice. Numerous Toyota dealers told me that in the South Eastern Toyota (SET) district there is a SET distribution fee. Each SET dealer ostensibly pays this fee to the SET district for each car sold in the SET district. This fee is added to the price of each car. I am unsure if the SET district rebates back to each dealer any of this fee. The fee for the D-cab was $550. I am unsure if the fee cost varies from car to car. Adding the $550 "fee" to the $170 "profit" yields $720 over dealer invoice. This price was for the exact color and equipped truck my wife desired:

SET fee as mentioned above. I didn't think I could
save much by driveing to Atlanta, so mhammer

I've driven the TRD and non-TRD. I wanted a
locing rear, but don't like the firm ride of the
TRD. By the way, the Admin. fees down here run
about $325.00. I read the these fees were $495
in Atlanta. In 1998 I paid $100.00 for Admin. fees.

My problem now is the dealer added $795 for glass etching which I didn't want. I have been trying to get a reply out of them for a week now. The finance girl didn't give me a copy of the contract. I called her the next day when I realized it wasn't in the envelope. She said it would be mailed to me from the bank. Never was. Finally after 3 weeks, I got it from her in the mail. That is when I noticed she added the $795 to the sticker price. She also didn't give me any paperwork for "glass etching". I am pissed.
I have already talked to my attorney and we are ready to take it to the next level if they don't issue a refund.
They also haven't sent me a refund for a payoff difference. A payment was auto debited before they made the payoff. They paid off the new lower amount and haven't sent me a refund for the difference.
If anyone is shopping at toyota of richardson, I would think twice.

Delivery to port was 12-31 followed by a dealer availability of 7-10 days later when the order was placed on 12-19. Delivery to port moved to 1-8 when I checked with Tammy at Toyota of Roswell on 1-2. Last night Tammy told me that port delivery now shows as 1-13 on the "latest computer run". I don't have much confidence in any date her computer spits out now.
The good news is that Tammy says the port has agreed to turn our D-cab within 24 hours of receipt instead of 7-10 days as originally expected.
Tammy says she called the port to obtain info on the delay. The port called the plant at Fremont, CA and learned there is a shortage on some item associated with the Limited Package. She could provide me no additional info. (Don't know why a Toyota dealer can not directly call the plant as a Ford or other "domestic" dealer does. Not sure if it is a Toyota policy or a SET district policy)
My wife and I had scheduled to take a long weekend trip after the original delivery date. Tammy has volunteered to furnish us a free 2001 loaner auto to use during our 1000-mile trip rather than put the mileage on our trade-in SUV.
Perhaps we will take delivery before month-end. We'll see
Seriously, I think I'll find out about this. It might come in handy the next time I want to buy a Tacoma and get told to take what they got here in Texas or don't take anything at all.
On the S.E.T. district fee, the dealers there aren't joshing. The whole southeastern US rights are owned by an organization that they do have pay it. I'm fortunate in that we don't have that here. We have a $89 doc fee with no other hidden fees. I hope this helps

I called Marietta Toyota in near Atlanta, they
will sell me one at their invoice. Drive out
price figured out to be $300 less than drive out
price in Macon and both were at "dealer invoice"
You figure. But my Macon dealer won't budge. I
don't think it's worth driving 120 miles to save
$300 over a 4 year car loan. Bottom line is
I'm still at least a month or 2 away from final
purchase. Butler Toyota said "when I'm ready,
he's ready!"

I didn't get prices but they should be about the same as for other applications.
So far at 20,000 miles my Quad is running great. have owned 4-5 toyotas and with some trepidation I bought the dodge. No regrets. It is roomy,has a V8 and is getting 20 mpg.(5spd,regular tires)
I will admit the toyota is interesting but ill wait a year or two before i jump ship
Toyota. My ste-daughter has a new quad 4x4.
We're going to do some very close comparisons
(again). Since Dodge still has $1000 rebate plus
that Farm Bureau $500 rebate. The prices are
the same. I've never owned a Dodge. If I go
Dodge I'm going to purchase an extended warrentee.
Any other thoughts? I'm not going to get a 4x4.
And the 4.7V8 get about the same mileage as the
V6 Tacoma?

Bought the Toyota the day after Thanksgiving. Very happy with it. Just as roomy / confortable inside ( 3" narrower, so 3 adults across in back might be tighter), mileage is 18.5 to 21 (prerunner v6), load capacity is actually 200lbs more. Bed is only 1.5" shorter, leg room is 1" less in front (I'm 6'3 and fit fine), the same in back; but overall the truck is 13" shorter! How long does a hood need to be, anyway? I don't tow anything heavier than a 2500# compressor, so that wasn't an issue, and the Dodge has a speed limiter at 96 mph so you can't even put those extra horses to use for fun.
You get the idea. Post specific questions if you have them, I'll answer.

In regards to glass etching/theftgaurd,(see post above) The dealership agreed to refund $450 of the $795 charged. I accepted this offer because I didn't want to drag this ordeal out. It's still a rip off at $345 but it least it's not $795.
Has anyone ever tried to install a 1.5 DIN (one of those larger head units designed to fit a GM or Chrysler product) head unit into the double-DIN dash opening of their Tacoma? If yes, did you find a special installation kit for this, or did you have to custom fit it yourself?

I am in the northern virginia area, and it seems like most of the dealers around here only stock double cabs that have alot of options on them. Does anyone in this area know how to get one of these "couple hundred dollars over invoice" deals that I have read about in the above previous posts? Also, does Toyota have an online inventory system that allows people to check each dealers stock, the way that GM does? Thanks!

I am also way off MSRP on all double cabs due to the fact that I fleet so many vehicles a year, my carte-blanche with the trucks works in your favor.
While I have no need to "troll" here for business at all, because I have enough email and prior client business on Tacomas (especially the 4 doors!!) coming out my ears, I am active in a number of forums here (Highlander, Sequoia, Landcruiser, etc) as well as tundrasolutions.com and it pains me to see folks who can't get a fair deal on their trucks, or can't get their trucks the way they want them to be built.

On the seats, have you tried the limited? I don't really like the sr5/lx seats but the limited are comfortable to me. I've heard people say the reverse also, so alot has to do with your size/etc. I have the sr5/lx seats in mine, but added some lumbar padding and a seat cover which helped tremendously. I have back problems so I'm kinda particular.

What are people paying for this truck, in different parts of the country?
I'm a bit surprised people don't like the seats. I'm just over 6'2", 210 lbs, and the seats are fine for me. The longest trip I've been on was about 5 hours, but no complaints from me that day or any other. Ive had the truck about 6 weeks and 3500 miles...
