    HI,

Thanks again for the heads up. I finally got the SF nailed down this morning and installed the wooddash kit. I see what you are talking about. There is room for a few more pieces as well as the glaring omission of the piece you mentioned.
I'll check out the web site and see if my two cents added to the pot helps any.
Still I look forward to hearing any feedback you may get.

Anyone know of a place that sells fender flairs? Seems to be a need for those as wel as some sort of door overhead shield as the sun down here in Florida will raise the devil with the interior of any vehilce. Anything that will alllow a little air to circulate when parked would help.

Insurance rates? Funny but I'm with State Farm and my rates went DOWN when I switched from my FIERO GT to the Santa Fe.

    Thanks again,
    Richard.

I found it fairly easy (for a handyman kind of guy) to convert those "fake" rear bumper lights into working tail/stop lights - in case any of you other Santa Fe owners wonder if it's possible. I think it looks pretty awesome with those working now! A REAL attention getter!
If you'd like some instructions or hints as to how to do it - email me!

Just got LX with everything, and the keyless remote is not working!!! We took it anyway as this should be easy to fix! Anyone else have this prob?? The dealer put an aftermarket "lego" theft deterent in and I woud if this is causing it! ny suggerstions???

Help me out please. Most sources on-line quote the the dealer invoice price at $19,187 for the 2WD Santa Fe LX, including Edmunds and KBB. However, Edmunds itself in another screen related to AutoByTel, if I'm not mistaken, quotes Invoice as 19,682... That's a big difference!
What gives? "Can the real dealer invoice please stand up?"

I have been visiting Hyundai dealers in the NYC area for the last month inquiring about the Santa Fe's. And it seems that the LX V6 with pkg 13 (ABS, Traction, heated leather seats) is not available and will not be for 6-8 weeks. And even then there is not a single dealer who is willing to accept anything lower than MSRP. They just don't want to hear about it. Because they know they can get a 1000 to 2000 over MSRP. I finally found one dealer who is willing to sell at MSRP. And even though I never thought of paying MSRP. it seems I might have to. I put down a refundable security deposit b/c I didn't want to lose the car, as this is the only dealer out of about 10 that does not have a waiting period of 6 weeks on the car. The car is coming to 23,400 prior to taxes and and 25,500 out the door. Any thoughts and/or suggestions?

Moreover, working from the invoice price there is a $695 advertising fee, which is built into the MSRP. price. Is that legit?

I test drove the car today and it rides well. My only qualms are very soft brakes, no power seats, and no side airbags.

If anyone has purchased a Santa Fe in the NY area, please share experiences.

And finally, on the insurance point, if it makes feel anyone feel any better, I am paying about $4,000 (that's right four thousand) a yr for insurance. I am 24 yrs old. Absolutely Clean record, driving for 7 seven years and have had my own insurance for over 5 yrs. And yet it's $4,000.

Any suggestions from buyers and "lurking" sales people on really good deals in Southern California?
I'm looking for a GLS or an LX 2WD v-6 with ABS.
    Thanks in advance.

    Sofsof,

I purchased my SC from Lama Hyundai in the Cerritos Auto Mall; however, I would suggest that you do an inquiry with Carpoint.com first and let them contact you. This way you will be able to get the fleet rate. I bought a GAS, 2WD, AS for $300 over invoice ($19900). I was very satisfied with the dealership and the sales person because they didn't really haggle over price since I was an interned customer. There is a difference. If you have any questions, feel free to email me: kujifikiria@hotmail.com.
  • richardr4richardr4 Member Posts: 49
I checked that and they say that they will only sell through a dealer or exotic wooddash.com. Not to any individual. Part number is F270 Hyundai Santa Fe 01 and up.
I went to the web site they mentioned and it looks like I'll either have to reboot or it isn't there.

Thanks for the post, I'll let you know what I do and have some pictures if I find that it's available.

I would love the information on how to activate the rear fake tail lights. I looked up your profile but it doesn't have an email address listed. My email address is listed in my profile, so if you would be so kind to email me the information I would deeply appreciate it. I just bought a Hyundai Santa Fe LX for my wife yesterday and I want everything to work for her.

I'll go along with that one myself. I'd like to know what parts you used as it seems like an easy enough job really. My only question would be how to weather proof the sockets for the lamps on the back side of the housing.

For the life of me I don't know if my e-mail is in my profile and my browser is having a slight fit right now. I'll work on that before I try doing anything else. But my email is mailto:rredfern@digital.net

Love to know what parts you used. What watt bulbs etc.

    Thanks,

As can be seen from the http://www.wooddash.com/category/HYUNDAI_Dash_Kits_SANTAFE web site, the piece that has been posted as "missing" is not in the picture. I was about to buy, however, I think that I'll wait until they correct this glaring error.

    TO krcooper:

I have been a long-time lurker on this board (about 2 months) and this is my first post, but I would also love to have the information you have on how to activate the rear fake tail lights. My email address is amealy@mac.com, and is also listed in my profile, so if you would be so kind to email me the information I would deeply appreciate it. I am just about ready to finalize the purchase of a GLS with ABS/TC and I want to do this conversion and add fender cladding pieces (once I find out where I can get them) after I get it. Thanks again- all posters on this board have been extremely informative and helpful!

I have put a refundable down payment on a pkg 13 Merlot Santa Fe. The dealer is selling at MSRP which $23,400. A few questions:

    1) Is there any dealer that is willing to sell below MSRP around the NYC area?

    2) Is it reasonable to pay MSRP?

    3) What are the opinions out there on the extended warranty being offered by Hyundai for $1500 to increase the bumper to bumper to 10 years and how "LIMITED" is the bumper to bumper warranty.

    4) Rbanator: If you are willing to share, How much did you pay for your Santa Fe and where did you buy it?

Thanks to all for your answers/advice/suggestions.

  • krcooperkrcooper Member Posts: 14
You say your email address is in your profile - but I checked and it's not. You must have it listed as "private" - not public - and that's why it doesn't show up in your profile. I'll gladly send you the info you requested if you'll give me your email address. Mine's k.co@gte.net.
Thanks! It seems like lots of we Santa Fe owners are interested in seeing those useless rear bumper light fixtures DO something besides remain dark. By the way - for your and others information, part of the fixture IS a REFLECTOR - ONLY - and won't light up even if you do the modification I did.

You said the insurance cost for your SF-LX is $550/yr. - whose your provider? I'd like to get a quote from them. I raised the question of cost several days, ago. At which time my current agent (State Farm) wanted $80/mo., I'm now down to $54/mo. via. Progressive Ins. (internet quote), but your cost is even better ($45.83/mo.).
  • bobcook54bobcook54 Member Posts: 79
Regarding your questions,MSRP is a good price to pay because the law of supply and demand applies here. Many dealers are getting up to $2500.00 over msrp(which in my opinion as a manager at a Hyundai dealer is truly gouging people and doesn't make for a long term customer/dealer relationship!). I think the extended service program(HPP)is a good deal if you plan to keep the car for close to ten years. Don't think costs now,but what parts and labor are going to cost 7-8-9 years from now, plus you get rental coverage from day one. Make sure it is a Hyundai ( HPP) program and not an after market one. HPP is administered at the dealership,no 1-800 numbers to call! As far as price,$1500.00 is a BIT high for it-you should be able to but it for around $1000-$1100.00.The factory warranty does not include mantaince items and the excludtions in the5yr./60,000 portion are battery(2yrs-prorate for a 3rd year),adjustments(1yr-12000 miles),paint and radio(3yr-36000 miles). Hope this helps!

See lots of messages on wood trim kits for the Santa Fe and also some complaints, ie, missing pieces.

Hyundai offers a very nice wood trim kit in their Santa Fe accessories catalog. It is burlwood with three coats of polyurethane. Price is $175.
The piece that fits around the radio, vents, ash tray, etc. is one piece and there are no gaps around or below the fog, flasher, and rear defogger switches and the vents.

The catalog also offers a rear spoiler to help keep the rear window clean, it is $85. Wheel lock
    kit is $25.

There are a lot of accessories in this catalog and they all carry a Hyundai warranty. One word of caution: DO NOT buy the Hyundai trailer hitch.
It is overpriced and it is sooo ugly. It hangs down below the rear bumper. Ugh! See message 1020
    for Draw Tite invisible hitch.

Bluewind, do you know when the Musso will be coming out in the US market and what will be the MSRP price? I've been waiting for that car to come here for years.
  • bluewindsbluewinds Member Posts: 100
Musso's manufacturer which is Ssang yong motors has plan to introduce Musso at the end of this year or at the early of next year as far as I know. However, North America is the only continent where people can't get Musso now.Ssangyong(SYMC) which was one branch of Daewoo is independent company now.

If you choose top notch of Musso which include everything that Sf's top line has plus Sunroof, it is US $24,960 in Korea now. This Musso's top line is pretty exceptional. Unlike other Mussos, it has full time 4WD and 220hp Mercedes engine.

However, if you want to buy Musso, in America I think you need to pay 2~3K more than Korean does in Korea. I think people don't need to choose only top line of Musso. There are 4 engines available in Korea. 4cyl gas,4cyl diesel intercooler,6cyl gas and 5cyl diesel intercooler. All are Mercedes engines. Diesel models are much cheaper. So, Musso's price is slightly higher than SF's

All new 2002 Musso will be introduced in July in Korea. However, Ssang-yong(SYMC) will keep produce current generation Musso at least 2~3years. I don't think SYMC will export new model to America. This company have never exported its first or second years old model abroads. It is always very serious about debugging.

Here's all new 2002 Musso spy picture. However, its front design will be a bit changed.

Every dealer should have the accessory catalogs available. There is a small fold out brochure as well as a large full color catalog. The large one may only be for use by the parts department as it includes accessories for all Hyundai models.
The small fold out brochure is specifically for the Santa Fe. The "part" number for the brochure is NP 110-71000.

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I am interested in purchasing a 4WD Santa Fe. At my local dealer, they have only 2WD, 4cyl models right now. The max payload is listed on the inside of the door (on the same sticker that has the information on tire pressure), and according to that sticker the 2WD 4cyl models have a payload of 880 lbs. Would it be possible for someone with a 4WD model to check on what the Max payload is for me? (I am specifically interested in the 4WD GLS model). I would appreciate it very much. I checked the manual in the car at the dealer, but I could only find information on towing capacity, not payloads. (I think that the info on Edmund's web site is incorrect, btw). Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

    Bluewind,

This is exciting news, I am glad Ssangyong is independant now. I don't think that $27K for a topline Musso is expensive at all! Add a 10 year warranty and make it $28K and I'm sold.

What are the chances of Hyundai buying out Ssangyong, it seems Ssangyong might not have enough networks to introduce the Musso by themselves here in the states. It would be ideal if Hyundai bought them out, but kept them sovereign (they don't necessarily have to offer the 10 year warranty if they are separate right?). With globalization and car companies merging to compete, it doesn't seem Ssangyong can survive alone. It is also amazing to me that Musso would be less than $30K here, that is very affordable for a quality SUV like that.

What I don't understand is, why hasn't the Musso come out to the states earlier. I know it's all over the world, but isn't the American market larger than everyone else combined? It might have even saved Daewoo (after all, there would have been no need to cover up anything if they were profitable). America is the largest SUV market and the Musso is almost perfect for the American consumer, it's tough and powerful and handsomely designed. I just don't understand, Musso was Korean auto industry's biggest card in my opinion, why haven't they played that?

If you like, you can email directly at ginkonut@hotmail.com

The Musso looks pretty good, but what has intrigued me for some time is the Ssangyong/Daewoo Korando.

The Korando with the Mercedes 4 or 5 cylinder diesel would make a nice addition to my garage, next to my Santa Fe. Too bad it doesn't come in a 4-door version.

The brochure for this vehicle makes no secret of the fact the the styling is copied from early jeeps. I had heard a rumor that Chrysler had threatened legal action if this vehicle were to be imported to the U.S. The front end does look
an awful lot like the new Jeep Liberty.

I had e-mailed Daewoo last year and inquired if or when the Korando would be imported here. Daewoo responded that they were considering introducing it in 2002. Obviously, this was before the South Korean government ordered the liquidation of Daewoo.

It's a shame really. I looked closely at the Leganza and Nubira, and was favorably impressed with the quality of construction and materials. They seemed light years ahead of the Kia Sephia and Sportage in that regard.

Does anyone know the current status of Daewoo?

The local Daewoo auto dealers have taken down their signs, and I see only a few vehicles left on the lots. Who will supply warranty repairs or parts?
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
According to a recent Associated Press report, the Daewoo plants in Korea have been idled again because of the large (and increasing?) stock of unsold vehicles. Idling the plants also prevented a potential workers strike. According to Wards Auto, if GM does purchase Daewoo (or a portion of it), it should happen within this month; wonder how GM shareholders feel about the killing off of the Olds division, and yet spending hundreds of millions on a foreign company. If we don't hear anything by this month then...who knows what will happen.

Ssang-yong has plan to choose 1~2 volume dealers which have network in America instead of building own dealers. However, if Ssang-yong thinks using Daewoo dealer is better than any other choices, it will do. Actually, creditors of Ssang-yong had negotiated DC's acquiring Ssang-yong with Mercedes because Mercedes is Ssang-yong's stock holder. However, Chrysler's financial deficit make DC's acquring Ssang-yong hard. Still Mercedes has Ssang-yong's stock. Ssang-yong's labor union which had been toughest union in Korean automotive industry declared that they would not go on strike any more until company revive. Creditors, officeclerks and workers agree that making Ssang-yong profitable company is first and then creditors will sell this company to new owner. Ssang-yong made a record of sales last year.

Daewoo close its first plant's 2 manufacturing lanes which are for producing Magnus(2002 Leganza)and Lanos and it will start to run first week of March. The other lanes in first plant keep running normally. Daewoo's the other two plants are running normally also. Daewoo usually, sells 4~5 times more cars in Western Europe than does in America. The other two plants are keep running 24hours a day. In Korea, people are getting skeptical that GM will acquire Daewoo. We don't know what is GM's real idea and we don't have time to waste.

Wanted to share with the forum this incident. Sunday night my 18 year old son and three friends came into the house. My son was literally shaking all over. Finally was able to tell us his experience. While on the road going about 55 a car suddenly veered directly into his path. He was able to avoid hitting it only by sharply swerving up onto the curbing, just missing the guard rail and then coming back onto the road and again swerving and repeating the same. His comment to us was "If we were in the van (mini-van that he formerly drove) we'd all be dead." The Santa Fe took the sharp cornering and swerving well, and he was able to keep control.

While no one ever wishes for these events, it's nice to know that in emergency maneuvering the Santa Fe performed so well.

In case you're assuming Hyundai charges dealers
some fee for their advertising cost...they don't.
If you know any sales manager who says otherwise, please

Yesterday I was at the dealership where I purchased my LX 4WD in Jan. At that time they had 10 or 12 Sante Fes on the lot. Yesterday I saw 2 and I think both were base models. So for those looking for Sante Fes it looks to be pretty slim pickings. I got $500 under invoice but I bet I wouldnt get that again.

I just ordered an LX from a broker (Lupient) in Minnesota - no advertising fees. They originally told me 60 days, but called back within a week and said 30. Amazingly, all of the dealers I spoke to told me there was an adv. fee, and also that I couldn't order a SF - because it was too difficult to get one from Korea. They also told me they couldn't deal on a SF and I also had several tell me they only had one LX on the lot (even though I heard one of the secretaries at the dealership tell another customer that they had 4 LX's in the back). Ahh, gotta love car dealers.

I'm close to closing my deal on a SF-LX FWD but just noticed that the model I'm looking at in San Antonio doesn't have a cassette player, only, a radio/CD. Edmund's standard equipment list indicated - AM/FM/Tape/CD. Can this audience let me know if your LX comes with a radio, tape & cd?

Several days, ago I posted a question about insurance rates .. thanks for the feedback. My current insurer, State Farm quoted me $80 but Progressive Ins via the interned came in at $54.

Also, thank you "mhillmer" for sharing about not paying the adv. fee for your purchase.

B&I trim informed me yesterday they will not build the missing piece for the wood dash for the Santa Fe.

Their Customer Service Dept. was very emphatic they said "we have no intention of supplying any additional pieces".

So if you are getting a wood dash for your Santa Fe that was designed by B&I Trim it will have a gap in the wood finish.

I read a posting that said Hyundai's wood dash did not have the gap.

    Hello everyone!!!

I am considering purchasing a Santa Fe GLS, but want to know if anyone out there has had any problems with the vehicle. I current on an American made car and have been totally unhappy with the build quality and warranty policies that it came with.

I am interested in finding out if there have been any major problems with you Santa Fe's, or if the vehicle has been good and dependable. I was originally looking at a Ford Escape, but after reading the nightmares and recalls, I decided to look elsewhere.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
