Enjoy the Santa Fe, it's a good vehicle.
i have read the posts, looked at the sites but have yet to see a wood dash kit installed on the beige interior.
someone.. anyone... if you have pictures, feel free to send 'em to me via email as attachments.
would love to hear any love/horror stories about the dash kits.
ready to order one but i want to make sure i get everything... front/rear doors, center dash above the air vents.. the whole 9 yards.
then again, it might look stupid with the whole thing covered... see, i need pics.
also, i have yet to see one that covers the instrument cluster.

By the way, Lexus RX 300 Dec sales are around 9000 units but they have be around awhile too.
The Santa Fe is creeping up on those lexus numbers. Hyundai sales are up 50% over last year and at 10 year high again with a SF shortage. Something is going on.
Fair is fair, right?

1. A/T Climate Control
2. Power Seats
3. Superior Stereo System
4. Navigation system
5. Vehicle Skid Control
6. Sunroof
Get the RX300 for these advantage at the price $25k more over the Santa Fe.
Actually you can make the Santa Fe with these options available after market and save a lots. Example:
1. Sunroof = $1200
2. A/T Climate Control = $500
3. Navigation System = $2000
4. Superior Stereo system = $1000
However, the Santa Fe can not do the VSC and the Power Seats. The VSC dealer price installation cost about $585 and the Power Seats about $400. Not much to count. But I think if you have the Full-Time AWD with ABS and Traction Control similar to my Santa Fe should be enough. I think if anyone want to spend extra money for the Navigation System is DUMB to me. Personally if you can write this message here and also use the website. Then use the Map and Direction in the website! Print it and then travel.
When driving on the street nearly almost everyone is looking at my car. Guess what I have in my Santa Fe right now!

I will post my Santa Fe after everything install.
I saw all of your mods to your santa fe...that sure looks nice, or it will look nice when it's all complete! Please post pics when you get a chance to, I'd love to see it. I almost ordered the medium burlwood dash kit, but I'm tired of that "missing gap" by the fog light, rear defroster....if they would only make the fill-in gap piece, I'd buy one. The Hyundai dealer accessories catalogue show that missing piece all filled in. I'd like to order tgat one, but they don;t show enough pictures of any other wood dash trim is installed in the car, e.g., the side arm rests, wood trim all the way up the second cup holder, etc...THEN i'll buy it. I've heard there's the 13 piece, the 17 piece and even a 23 piece of wood trim, but to complete the wood dash trim, it's more like 27-30 pieces in all. Any one here heard other wise? WHO HAS THE COMPLETE WOOD DASH KIT? LOL
Tony
1.(speedo) goes around the instrument panel
2. (lower left dash) the instrumant dimmer area
3. (center vents) shows it with the center piece and is one whole piece.
4. (stero) enough said I think
5. (heater a/c) same as above
6 & 7 they are missing from here..so I am calling on it..might be console area or ash tray cover.
8-11 (front/back door handles)
12-13 (overhead console pieces)
As I said..they will install it at your home or work.. I got a price quote of $360.00 installed. But am wondering on the mising # pieces (6-7) Once I hear from them, I will post info. The brochure listed the name as Woodview Automotive Trim. I do know that when I bought my car, which came from a different city than where I live, had a wood kit installed and it was the same manufacture as this one. But it was in a GLS and was only a quick peek at it. Dealer wanted close to $500.00 as an option price. BTW..I got a great deal or at least I think so on my GL. Traded in 97 Honda Accord SE with 90,000 miles, got $10,000 for that, pay off was $9,000 and some change, which gave me app. $900.00 towards GL. Walked out the door with GL tax/tag/title/plus Utlity pkg, automatic, dealer prep things..etc..for $20,500. I was happy. They made $$$..I got a car I am happy with.

I love this board as I like my SF.
I think that I posted a message about whisling sound coming from my SF. And two people replied to my message. I do appreciate their kind replies.
In fact, after I accepted their suggestions, I tried to every thing to locate where the sound is coming from. But I could not find it. The problem is the engine makes some sort of high pitch rolling sound, like "toro toro torrrr~~~~",every morning. It is very noticeable in the garage. It is not real big noise outside the garage, but it is some sound that old used vechicles make. So, I brought my vehicle to the dealership for inspection. What was strange when I brought the car to the dealership, it did not make that sound. The A/S manager suggested that it might be cold weather in the morning which causes the sound and asked me to leave the vehicle. I did it. The next day, I got back my SF after I heard the A/S manager saying that my SF has no problem and every thing seems to be in normal operation. That was so strange. The next day, my SF did not make that sound. But a couple of days later, SF started making that sound again. Well, I don't know what to do. These days, whenever I start the engine, I hear the same noise, but it is gone after a while. It bothers my ears, but my SF still runs okay. Does anybody have the same problem? I don't think that the cold weather is the problem. I live in warm Arkansas.
Other thing I want to mention is a little and irregular whisling sound is still coming from the driver's side window while driving at over 50 mph. Is it normal? This is not big, but I did not hear this noise during the first two weeks since I bought it.
I traded in small Honda Civic to buy SF. Now, except for these two problems, I love SF.I just hope these things are the break-in processes of the vehicle.
Thanks.
In the meantime I have been following the boards closely. I can't understand why everyone is caught up arguing about who owns what and throwing insults back and forth. Those of us who actually own Santa Fe's know they are an exceptional car.
Hung 0820--Your S.F. looks great with all the aftermarket add-on's. About your Sport Face gauges. I am assuming they are the white ones. How tough were they to install. I am a little unsure about opening up my dash and spedo. Any advice or hints? Thanks in advance.
To all Santa Fe owners and prospective owners--
The Santa Fe is a great car. As to which is better the RX300 or the S.F. Well I think this board has made it clear that us owners are very happy with our purchase. But in the end its up to you and not us! I for one have never looked back!
True, it doesn't have some of the luxury features I could have gotten in a Pathfinder LE like power seats, moonroof, 6 cd, navigation, etc., but for the features is does have and the price, it can't be beat.
So, like some of the previous posts have said, it is all a matter of what people like in a vehicle, what features you want, and how much you are willing to spend to get it.
I was at the Pittsburgh Auto Show last week and saw every SUV up close and personal. To tell you the truth, I found the Acura MDX to be heads and shoulders above the Lexus RX300, Mercedes M-class, and the BMW SUV. It had all the features of those, plus some more extra and it was much bigger than those models. I can see why it was SUV of the year.
Recently the board seems to be posting two areas that I am not sure enhance any new visitors visit here. 1) There seems to be a childish ... "I'm smarter than you are" ...whine, whine, whine...between one Santa Fe poster and two Lexus RX 300 members. I wish the hosts would remove all these postings. 2) The emphasis of the board seems to be on options and accessories.
My suggestions are that we continue to post both positive and not so positive stories/opinions about buying and owning a Santa Fe. (Post #1222-just above this one is a good example of a very helpful post for new visitors).
1.) Let's move all the wood trim and other accessory and option posts to the Santa Fe Owner's Club section specifically designed for them.
2.Cut out all the immature "play" that seems to have invaded this board! Tell me your story once and then move on. I also don't need to read the aside comments that infer that those who buy a Santa Fe are poorly educated, live in trailer parks, and are ignorant. That is no more true than saying all owners of the RX300 have a superiority complex and drink Starbucks coffee.
Let's get back to basics! Why do you like/dislike your Santa Fe and what are your experiences! Share your story or ask a question...isn't that what this board is really for?
Can anyone tell us what the fixes were between the generations i.e. mechanical, electrical, structural, cosmetic, functional?
PS: Finally someone made a sensible request/comment [msg#1223 losthat1]. Hopefully the HOST for this board will read it and work on deleting/controlling useless material. I'm sure those who wish to continue discussion of their private views can do so using their own/direct emails rather than cluttering up this board!
Let's get back on track and share meaningful information on the SF.
This is a church picnic compared to most of those and open warfare has been known to break out from time to time. I got the scars to prove it and basically it just isn't worth it. What does it prove? NADA!
I may not be the brightest bulb that ever lit up the sky but I do know a friendly board when I find one. This is one of those.
Rules to follow.
Never knock another person's choice or whatever.
You may have a different opinion but state it as such, not as a personal attack.
The use of "imoticon's" can go a long way towards telling everyone that you are kidding or not.
A simple or a :-) or even a :-( will get your point over far better than calling names and complaining.
I bought my Santa Fe based on this boards recomendations and coments. Everything was positive. You people have been more than terrific sharing information and experinces ( Nope! I can't spell either :-)
Lets continue to do what we started out to do. We have a good thing going here and I have to say that the hosts at Edmonds have been more than kind as to censorship.
Now on another note I'm working on making that missing piece for the Santa Fe Meduim Burlwood dash. I have the veneer and I have the abilty to make it. I'm not trying to sell this part but just pointing out that for every problem there is a solution.
Maybe we can find them all together? So far we've all done just fine.
Thanks everyone.
Sincerely,
Richard.
This "Poor man's Lexus" topic name is childish and is getting out of hand with dumb idiotic threads and name calling...no one here needs to compare with Lexus...it's a Hyundai Santa Fe Board, and they can bring it up under the General Forum if need be. I propose the following Topic Name Considerations: These are only suggestions, but at least change the Poor Man's Lexus to "General Discussion" or something like that...
1. General Forum - e.g., purchasing, test drives, reviews and popularity, etc..
2. Tire/Wheel Forum - if needed
3. Engine Performance Forum - e.g., exhaust, cooling systems, transmissions, engine performance, etc...
4. Auto Sound and Security Forum - e.g. auto systems, speakers, amplifiers, alarm systems, theft deterrent systems, etc.
5. Exterior Accessories Forum - e.g. paitn, pin striping, paint protection, roof facks, ground effects, etc ...
6. Interior Accessories Forum - e.g., dash trim, wood trim, seats, seat covers, floor mats, door panels, cargo liners, etc...

It has been a while since I have posted any comments regarding my Santa Fe. You may remember I was having some clock problems which were solved by replacing the clock unit. To those who are tired of the comments on the dash, please skip to my next paragraph. I installed the wood dash from www.wooddash.com a little over a month ago and an happy with the look. I agree that the space between the vents and the buttons would look better covered, but I certainly am satisfied with the look of my dash without it. I have read all of the posts on the topic and have checked out the other sites just to see what I may have missed by installing this early on and only regret not considering the product by www.wooddashfactory.com. Although mine has all the door panels, unlike that of Hyundai's, this product goes even further with additional pieces on the console between the seats - it still does not fill in the space on the dash.
On another note, has anyone experienced a whirlling noise when letting off of the accellerator? I have driven other cars that have motion stabalizers and balancers that make a similar sound when shifting the load. I don't think my SF has this option, it just sounds like it.
Other than that, 3,400 miles later, I am still stopped in parking lots at least once a week by someone who is interested in my white GLS 4WD V6 and I am still a very happy owner. I am also happy to report that gas mileage is up to just over 20 mpg from an original disappointing 17.
Finally, as far as the earlier "he said, she said" comments, I, too, agree that this service should be used for the sharing of comments and experiences, be them good or bad and not for pointing fingers and putting each other on the defensive.
I too still get gawks. :-) The other day I came out of a building and found two police officers surrounding my S.F.--OH NO---what's wrong? Nothing! Both were admiring the S.F. and curious how I liked it.
There are three magazines on the racks right now that compare/contrast the S.F. with other SUVs. The current Consumer Reports rates the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute higher, but still gives a good review to the S.F. Car and Driver gives a nice comparison to other "mini" SUVs. IMHO the S.F. does not fit into the "mini" catagory. An interesting review. Today's SUV magazine compares it to other new SUVs including bigger and much more expensive ones. They really like the S.F. What do other readers think?
Can you explain how to check the tension of drive belts in detail? I want to do whatever I can do.
Thanks for your suggestion.
You complain about people being rude and engaging in immature "play," yet you chose to be very condescending, controlling and rigid in your suggestions (not to mention the SEVEN exclamation marks at the end of your title.)
Forum, by definition, is a meeting place for a free exchange of opinions - smart and stupid, insightful and silly, eloquent and badly misspelled, rigid and easy-going...:)
If we chose to discuss ad noseam the shadings of a fake burl wood dash, or how the hissing of the engine reminds us of our mother-in-law -- just skip it and have a cup of herbal tea, OK?
Hope u read my message here!
Most of us have problem searching for the body fender, stepping bar, rear spoiler in north america. Can u let us know from which source u bought your Singapore's Santa Fe accessories from?
Do u know u probably own the best looking SF in our club so far!
BBBBB-IIIIII-GGGGGGG Thanks!
PS. How many SF likes yours is in Singapore?
The sport face gauge that I purchased from www.hdkautosport.com was very nice. They are actually white on daytime and blue & red at night time. This face gauge is actually the Korea version and they don't have USA version. What is the different? It shows the KM in larger fonts and mile in smaller fonts. However, I have get use to look at the mile already. They look very nice but it was the hardest thing to install in my Santa Fe. Well actually they are very easy to me right now. It tooks me about 4 hours total to install at the beginning but I can do it within 30 minutes now.
Wood Dash:
I have purchased the 16 pieces of wood dash from www.dashcover.com with the Red Walnut Burlwood. This is the real wood and it the best looking in the market for the Santa Fe. The Actual manufacture that built this wood dash was www.flautotrim.com (Florida Auto Trim). I have talked with the designer today and I am going to draw about 10-15 pieces for the Santa Fe today. In the future, My Santa Fe will probably have about 30 pieces total. The list below are the pieces that I will draw.
1. Missing Gap at the Front Center Vents (Everyone was talking about this missing piece)
2. Surround the Driver Airbag
3. Surround the Speedometer
4. Rear Console Light
5. Surround the Rear Cup Holder
6. Surround all Door Handles
7. Surround the Upper part of the Front Door Handles
8. Top piece of the Speedometer
9. Left side of the Speedometer
10. Shift Gear
11. Maybe the Steering Wheel
I will try to find more gap and fill it up.
I am not doubting you just curious where I can find this Information.
But U can help yourself by
1st check your CD to make sure there is no defects (Having scratches) on it.
If the problem is not on the CD. Then simply show it to Hyundai dealership to get it fix or replace.
Is your problem solved?
PS. My Candian Version come with Clarion CD & radio Player w/detachable face, never encounter any problem the sound quality is great but the buttons is very tiny. First is very difficult to use but now I get use to it already. (Just like u changing using a Palm computer from a desktop computer.)
I like it better than the Hyundai's one(in US version). That looks very old fashion to me.
I live in Pittsburgh and it can get pretty cold here, too, somedays. I tried playing cd's in my player when getting in my car after it sat all night and was freezing. It skipped, too. After the car warmed up and I actually rubbed the cd player to warm it up, the skipping stopped.
Of course, I'm sure the quality of the Santa Fe cd player is much better than mine and it is also protected by the dash, which would keep it warmer.
So, it could be a defect, but maybe it is the cold. Does it work ok when the car has been running a while on a trip or anything??
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the compliments for my SF. The SF is quite a recent release here in Singapore and so there are not that many on the road. Have only seen one other in exact same config as mine. The SF does receive quite a fair bit of gawking and head-turning here as well.
On to your question about the accessories. I recently visited the HDK Autosport website and there are now several new products listed. Check out the SF Series under SUV Products. I see my SF fittings there.
http://www.hdkautosport.com/
we just got our GLS on saturday. the wife wipped by the dealer to bring in our insurance binder yesterday and she said right where our SF was on the showroom floor... there sat a SF with a 2002 sticker on the windshield. she said she couldnt notice any visual differences and wasnt sure if the price went up....
maybe i should have waited a week or two.
kc
i posted my dealer experience in the appropriate forum but will post my response here because i saw someone asked about finding a good price.
-----------------------
didn't pay $900 under MSRP huh? right, i paid less.
no shame in my game...
i will scan my purchase agreement and post it on my website.
go to hyundaiusa.com
price a GLS v6 4wd with a package 11.
GLS V6 Four Wheel Drive $20,799.00)
4-Speed SHIFTRONIC Automatic
2.7-liter 24-valve DOHC V6
Exterior:Sandstone
Interior:Beige
Package 11 $595.00)
Destination & Handling $495.00)
Total $21,889.00
I flat out told the salesman i would pay 21,000 even, no more.
he went to the manager with a price even lower than that.
he came back and said the manager didnt go for the lower price... so i said... just go back and tell him what i offered you in the 1st place... 21,000, and we should be good. also, since the car is on the showroom floor already... i didn't feel i should have to pay dealer prep of $349. salesman agreed and got that knocked off the price.
THEN. the day i showed up to pick up the car, it turned out that during the week, the pinstriper came in and pinstriped ALL the cars on the showroom floor. i didn't ask for pinstriping so i wasn't made to pay the $195 charge for that....
so add it all up and i actually got over $1000 of the car including dealer options...
oh, i didnt mention that my car came with the $80 floor mats...
do yourself a favor... don't be mad if you paid more than you should have and know what you are talking about when you try to call someone a liar.

When I was searching for my SF(GLS 2WD), I found a dealer in AR. The first offer was the MSRP with 10 percent APR financing. When I asked for the discount, they said that their invoice is $19200 dollars. Well, who is going to believe that? If the invoice is really $19200, why does the window sticker have the different invoice? I just dropped the offer. Two days later, they called me and said that they can add more price to my trade-in. I already knew that that is the way they are doing business. They just wanted to find out up to how much I can pay for the vehicle. They were repeating the same thing. I reall don't know how much they pay for the vehicles when they get from the manufacturer. How can they sell the vehicles below the invoice? Because of the dealer's holdback? I don't know. Anyway, I got $600 off of the MSRP last January.
I hear that some dealers sell SF's $1000 over the MSRP. Is it true story? Or, is it some sort of rumor coming from Hyundai dealers? Although I love my SF, I don't think that SF is worth 1000 or 1500 over MSRP. If dealers sell the vehicles for couple of thousdands over MSRP, just wait. They will come down a price. You are the one who has cash.
I hear about generation things. If that is true, I am so disappointed with the way Hyundai deals with problems. They should have let the user know about it. Can anybody verify that story?
Thanks.
If I do take my deposit back where do I go, no one in the Philly area has the vehicle I'm looking for, no one. I keep hoping that if I'm a big enough pain in their butt they'll eventually find it, perhaps I'm sadly mistaken but I'm willing to wait a bit longer. I also plan on calling the cust affairs dept. Thanks again.
I think I read that the spare tire should be included with normal tire rotation schedules since it is a full size tire. Seems like a good idea to make the tires last longer.

my brother told me about tirerack.com
they have a section that shows your vehicle and all the available rims (in thier inventroy I assume) that will fit the vehicle... you can choose the color of the car too... how cool is that.. especially when you have no idea what those $1600 18 inch rims are gonna look like until you buy them and hate 'em. haha
here is the direct link to the santa fe
