I hate to ask but I may be in a similar situation. Where did you get your body fender flairs from and what are they made of? Mine are Stainless steel and they sure don't fit the car. I don't know what they fit but it sure isn't the Santa Fe. I called the company and they said that I had the correct parts.
    Very doubtful.

    Hi Everyone...

First, I love my Santa Fe... I bought it in November, and it drives great. BUT!!!! Yesterday, my transmission was and is having problems. BE CAREFUL! I drove it to a tailor shop, came out started the car, only it cranked up but wouldn't start. I waited 5-10 seconds and started it up again. It started. After I reversed the Santa Fe from the parking stall, I proceeded to step on the accelerator/gas pedal...and as I gave it gas, it was as if, the car would DOWN SHIFT BACK INTO 1st GEAR!! YES! I eased up on the pedal and was surprised at this...so I once again, slowly accelerated and as the RPM's got higher (expecting it to shift for you automatically as it should), it was as if I were in Manual mode, going from 1st gear, but NEVER GETTING OUT OF 1st gear! I have a LX, 2WD by the way, and it did the same thing with the Shiftronic mode as well. So I called my dealer today, and tomorrow (Wednesday) I'm using my Hyundai Raodside Assistance to tow my Santa Fe to the Dealer for observations and to FIX THIS, ALL UNDER WARRANTY! I called and explained to the service tech that my transmission was acting up, not shifting gears but felt like it was in neutral gear or stuck in 1st gear, and the car "smelled" funny when you started it up... (like radiator leaking smell) but I had no leaks, nor drips, no nothing! The car drove great until this one stop at the tailor store, and I was stunned!

I'm not mad or upset with Hyundai. Don't get me wrong, nor be alarmed. This Santa Fe is a GREAT CAR, and I love it! It just happened to me is all, and thought you should all be aware of what has happened to me, in case it ever does happen to you. Because of the warranty and the car being only 3 months old, and with only 4,000 miles on it, I know Hyundai will take car of me and my Santa Fe and will have me up and running in no time. I will be getting a rental from them and will post back here with the results, in case you're all interested. I did find it odd, that my first purchase of a Hyundai, has already gave me some trouble...we'll see. But I'm confident that all will be diagnosed and repaired as good as new! By the way, like most of you, I pamper my Santa Fe, and drive it well. I just got back from my trip to San Francisco, the Bay Area, Santa Cruz, San Jose, LA and back to San Diego...added a total of 1,238.1 miles!! The car handled beautifully and smoothly without any problems...so I was surprised about this development with my transmission all of a sudden. Just wanted to share with you. Will post back soon.

I believe you have a first generation Santa Fe date between February to April, 2000. The second generation is from June-August, 2000. I personally owned the Third Generation date from October an on.

There is a few problems on the first generation and some on the second generation models. However, there was nothing wrong with the 3rd generation problem have been occured yet. Let's hope there will be nothing wrong.

Where do you find the date of manufacture?

    Thanks.

Can some one tell me what brand is the best to put in my Santa Fe. Since you have to stick with one oil I want the Best. I love my Santa fe it's the best. And one more Question what kind of Wax should we be using.
    Thanks

In my Canadian version, U open the driver door 1st, then look at the lower car body between the driver door & the rear passenger door, U will see the label which printed the manufacturing date.
    Hope this help.
PS. I always check the car's manufacturing date before I negotiate will the dealer.

    1. Does anybody know the cost of dealer installed wood panels?

    2. I don't think they include the arm rest panels.

    3. Here is a separate maker/dealer who I believe is not connected with the NY manufacturer B and I Trim who the other 2 outfits use since they are just distributors. He, "Dash Covers", is in Pompano Beach Florida and has been around for years. I recall seeing him at an Auto show in Miami 7 years ago.

I looked at their web site and then I called them and they have a 17 piece set in many more woods and colors than B and I. I may drive there in near future and take a look. On phone they said they would install for 50 to 75 $. Whole set of 17 cost $418 in real wood and $318 in synthetic wood.

    Here is address on website:

    http://www.dashcover.com/

Let me know what you think?

  • billtungbilltung Member Posts: 255
All my vehicles have been using synthetic oil for almost 2 years, the results is saving gas, smoother in accelerate, more engine protection (I believe). I have tried several different brands, they seem do not have too much in difference as long as the oil is 100% synthetic, (I never try blended synthetic oil, think will be better than regular oil but certainly not the best.).
If u think it is expensive to use synthetic oil, then try to change oil by yourself then u can have the best oil by paying almost the same price of having regular oil change by oil change shop. Doing oil change in SF is an easy job! Enjoy!

Someone posted that Hyundai catalog has the wood dash trim. spoke to a Hyundai dealer yesterday - he claims that he called the company and that they don't make it...

If someone got one from Hyundai or knows the part number (for Hyundai's own only) - please give me some more information to give the dealer.
    Thanks.

The Date of Manufacture should specify in your Manual. I don't know if there is any different location for the LX, GLS, etc... However, I have the LX model and they show up at the driver door when you open it. Some might show up in the hood and some in the door panel.

Synthetic Oil Change is the best quality. Follow the instruction in the Manual for Oil Change. They are very easy to maintenance.

The Body fender I got was from ExoticWoodDash! The Fender does not fit for my Santa Fe at all. I return it for an exchange of the Wood Dash for the Toyota Sienna. I want to get the Wood Dash as a gift for my Father (Dad). He just recently owned the Sienna XLE 2001. Excellent van. Recommended for anyone who love van.

First, I've answered my own post #1162.
Hyundai does make the wood dash, but it has no side panels and apparently is not that available for order. The part # is 0877026000A.

Now,has anyone found a wood dash that has everything (all the pieces + the side panels) you wanted and that you're happy with?

hello...just picked up my GL Black 2wd. will prob add woodgrain later..but test drove a GLS and dealer had woodgrain installed..added 450.00 to price..but it was a somplete one but noticed in a santa fe accessory catalog they had one that coverd the whole air unit, even on top..But the one in the GLS i test drove didnt do that..it still looked nice.
Talked to parts mgr. and he told me a new catalog was coming out featuring more options..so who knows..keep your eyes open at the service dept.

I recently talked to Hyundai brass about an update on the Santa Fe shortage( I am a manager at a Hyundai dealer in Ohio) and here is what I was told:1) obviously strong sales 2) AWD system production and V6 engine production can not keep up with demand. An expansion at the engine plant in Korea is due to go on line by mid March, but I'm sure that it will be slowly ramped up to full speed. I wouldn't look for any relief until late May-June.Probably, at least here in the Midwest, we will see the majority of the allocation being 4cyl 2WD and V6 2WD until then.

    Hi,

YUP! Me too! Damn things will not fit the Santa Fe no matter what you try. Drilling new holes in the stainless piece MIGHT be the answer but still ther is something simply wrong with the whole thing. Once you get i ton it seems that if you went to wash it and weren't careful you could really slice your hand on the bottom of the parts. They simply don't fit and the gap is large and the parts are very, very sharp! Fit the TOP of the fender fine but leave you no room to drill into the inner fender wells. I'm not about to drill the sheet metal for the sake of cheap cosmetics.

I called them and they were less than helpful. They may be great on other items but I recommend that you avoid these pieces till they improve their quality control.

Anyone know of a company that makes these parts that actually fit? I don't want to spend $300.00+ for them either. ( half would be OK though)

They asked for a twenty percent restocking fee on those so I guess I'll just hang them in the garage to remind myself that I'm out $97.00 for being stupid.

Still waiting on my black GLS w/ABS. This Saturday will be week 6. My dealer claims the regional rep is well aware of my situation. Bob Cook, can you help, I live in the Philadelphia area? Is there anything the regional rep can do, can't they catch what's coming in at the port? Thanks.

You can exchange for other stuffs from Exotic Wood Dash. That way you don't feel dump purchasing the body fender. You can actually exchange for the wood dash for your car or other relatives and friends as gift. I went on exchange the Wood Dash for my Dad instead. You might want to ask your friends or relatives to see if any of them need the wood dash and then return the body fender for an exchange.

I have purchased a different type of body fender from www.hdkautosport.com. This type of body fender have the same color as my car's body cladding. I think this body fender will look much better and nicer. Check it out at hdkautosport.com on the "SUV" menu. Eventhose they are expensive but if you can talk with a someone then you will be able to get a discount.

Wood Dash Info: You can buy the best type of wood dash available for the Santa Fe simply visit www.autodash.com to see the pictures and then order it from www.dashcover.com. There is a 16 pieces of wood dash that are the best. Choose the Florida Auto Trim quality with the RED WALNUT BURL. At autodash.com they sell them separate but order from Dashcover.com for all 16 pieces at a better price. This type of Wood Dash look exactly the one on the ACURA MDX. You can check it out simply visit the Acura website and choose MDX.

These photos have my up my mind. For the $200 difference, I don't care about the gap.

When you go to this site, look for "Miscellaneous Photos" and then find pictures by "Jerry Gorman".

Who ever he is, he took good pictures of his medium burlwood panels.

Yes, the dealer can request that his rep match a vehicle up at the port. But, the dealer has to have allocation first and there has to be one coming in at the port.Read my posting #1166. I suspect that is the reason for the delay. We have a turn and earn system- you sell one and you earn allocation.

While I was searching for wood dashes tonite for my Santa Fe,I found this company in Florida that had evidently just put there wood dash on the market as of 2/7/01.They call it the master kit and it has 26 pieces in it for only $285.00!!The layout even takes care of the back doors!Check out there website at www.wooddashfactory.com.

    Hi Everyone again!

First, no, I do believe I do have the 3rd and final generation Santa Fe, as I checked it, so whoever thought I had 1st or 2nd generation, you're mistaken. I only buy top of the line Santa Fe, and not crappy generations. LOL So my transmission problem has nothing to do with 1st, 2nd generations...it has nothing to do with that, as I was the first one with the problem, and no one else has ever had my problem.

My car was fixed. The dealer found a Crank Shaft Sensor Fault. He replaced it, and it drives better than before...smoother, quieter and better than when I bought it. Better improved gas mileage too. It was covered under the warranty. "I never have to worry about my car, because I'm covered under the 10,000 mile warranty..." LOL Remember the commercial when that chic talks to the camera? Hahaha. Too funny. LOL I've averaged about 370-388 miles to the tank, since I bought my Santa Fe. LX 2WD,Sandstone!! I just love it!! While I was there, I looked through the Santa Fe accessories...and noticed the wood dash kit. The picture only shows the radio and top vents covered, and the missing gap part of it (covered)...but it didn't show the temperature controls nor the arm rests, etc... I asked about how many pieces the wood dash kit had, and the service guy didn't know. He thinks that their wood dash kid doesn't cover the arm rests. I did like the way it looked though in the picture...it covered the "top" part over the air vents in the center console. All the other wood dash kits do not do this. With Hyindai discount, he quoted me about $215.00...sounded good, but I'll wait until all pieces are covered...arm rests, and wood dash trim all the way up to the second cup holder. Why get crappy incomplete parts? Any way..the car, transmission problem are fixed. I wasked about dash covers...Hyundai doens; thave nay yet for the Santa Fe. I'm looking for mud guards/splash guards...but I couldn;t find any either. I did see some nice chorme rims for the Santa Fe. I think I may buy them. This way my Santa Fe will be differnt than everone elses' since they all have stock Santa Fe's. I took off the stupid looking "Hyundai" bade and "V6" bades off the talgate/rear of the Santa Fe, as they look stupid and dumb back there. All it says now is "Santa Fe"...real clean, sharp looking vehicle now. Everyone always mistakes it for the Lexus/Mercedes SUV. Plus, by removing the dumb looking badges on the back, and driving without the fornt license plate, which I remeoved as well...looks better that way, my car, Santa Fe looks real smooth, clean, easy to polish without the dumb badges on their too. Will post back soon. I want to find the best wood dash kit without the missing pieces. I'm still waiting, as NO ONE has the COMPLETE wood dash kit, and it looks real dumb with that missing gap on the center console. Any one have the COMPLETE Wood Dash Kit? -Tony

Did you leave a deposit with the dealer by any chance??
If that's the case , you've been conned. take the money back and run!!!
Hyundai dealers can't order a SF for you. Read the post below by the Hyundai advocate on t-h-c.org.

Very informative. It basically tells you that you buy what's on the lot; special order? no such thing!. If you think the dealer can somehow "snatch" a car for you, you are sadly mistaken.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK. Here is the Official word from HMA regarding special orders.

Dealers CANNOT special order a car from HMA, however your DEALERSHIP can
check with the District Rep/Zone Rep as to what vehicles
are available from all dealerships within your zone.

"Then its up to the dealership that has it if they are willing to do a trade." If its
a high demand car, chances are they wont give it up
because they would rather make the sell themselves.

Also If there isn't a car meeting your specifications within the zone, then the
zone re can contact HMA to see if there is one in port at
HMA, or possibly one on the boat already on its way to the US. But.......

Here's the kicker. All dealerships are given a "Dealer Allocation" (the number of
cars they can have in their inventory). If the dealership
already has their allocation, then they cannot get another car unless they trade
with some other dealership, or make enough sells to
create a shortfall in thier allocation thus allowing them to order another one.
This normally doesnt work so well for small volume
dealerships, because they are also allocated certain packaged cars

But a Large volume dealership (one that has continual turn over and who is
short a number of cars from thier allocation) may be able
to get thier zone rep to go out of his way and contact HMA for a specific car from
another zone, or one that may be in port or on the
    boat.

This of course is based on many factors such as the standing of the dealership
    with the Zone rep.

High volume dealerships of course have more clout.

Also the willingness of the dealership to Push the issue for a special customer (a
returning client)with the Zone Rep is an important
    factor.

Bottom line. If they dont have what it is your looking for already on the lot, then
your chances of getting one so called "Special
    Ordered" is very slim unless:

    1. Your purchaseing from a high volume dealership.

    2. Your a repeat (favored) customer.

    3. There is the exact vehicle you want at another dealership in the Zone, and
they are willing to trade for something thier customers
    are looking for.

Problem is everyone is looking for a 2000 Tiburon (especially the 5 speed sticks),
and those that have them dont want to let go of
them because they are selling very well at the moment.

(Accent, Elantra, Tiburon, Sonata) with specific option
packages (Base/GLS, option pkg 1,2,3,4 and Automatic or stick) and would like
for them to CONDUCT A DEALER LOCATE SEARCH for a match.

They may try and ask what city you are looking for.. Be very direct and specific
by telling them you ARE NOT trying to locate a dealership near you, but instead
are attempting to locate a SPECIFIC car meeting your specifications and want to
know what dealership has it available on thier lot.

The latest issue of SUV mag rated 10 or so SUV's and gave SF # 4, but called it "best bang for buck" and reviewers were pleasantly surprized with size and quality. One reviewer asked to drive it over the weekend even thought he could have choose the Accura, MDX and others more expensive SUV"s.

They have also upgraded their project Santa Fe with a lot of add on, tv screen, etc.

Looks to me like there are at least 3 manufacturers of the wood panels. I found one not directly mentioned here who has a very elaborate web site with sound and motion but very few details. They must have spent a lot on money to some web designer to build this site. It may be that they only sell to dealers or shops. I will find out Monday. I know that Auto Dash sells them besides other brands. They seem to be located in N. Florida. I tried to call them but they are closed today.

Thank goodness for your information. I was hoping that you have the 3rd generation too. Not every new car will expect to have everything work perfectly. However, I found out that your car probably have reached the real time break-in period since the Crank Shaft Sensor Fault was broken. I believe this will only allow you to drive on 1st Gear and therefore the break-in period is easily in process. When the real break-in take place the acceleration should be very easy as well as the transmission gears will change the gears easily (that's mean the car is smoother). I know that the Santa Fe suppose to go around 8-9k miles before a real break-in take place. The first stage of break in will take about 1200 miles but not real yet (the smell will be gone at this time).

My White Santa Fe LX AWD w/ Traction Control & ABS just barely past the first stage break-in only. Still did not get a better gas mileage yet. Hopefully, it will take place after my first synethic Oil Change (5000 miles). I hope everything will go well for every owner of Santa Fe. Good luck. Thank you for sharing the information.

THanks for your note. I was quite pleased and yes, a little scared when the problem happened to me. I thought, this is way too new for my transmission to mess up on me. LOL But anyway, the crank shaft sensor was all that it was....so if your car or anyone here, has problems accelerating and feels like you're stuck in 1st gear, it s the cransk shaft problem. I guess they have to order the part, my dealer did anyway, as I had the car there with them over night, by then they called me in the morning to tell me that it was all okay.

I saw a nice wood dash trim at the dealer accessories store...the picture for the santa fe was nice, but it was a small picture showing only the top portion and the radio....the picture didn;t show any other part of the wood dash trim. I was suspect to that. Id' hate to pay $200 + for only part of a wood dash trim, and not get the whole thing....so I'm definitaley holding off until SOMEONE sells and makes the wood dash trim for the ENTIRE car, e.g., center dash consol, all the way to the 2nd cup holder, the arm rests as well. The wood dash kit looks nice, but to me any way, it looks plain stupid with that missing "gap", and it cheapens the car in my opinion. AS far as mods to my santa fe, the only thing I can think of are this: mud flaps, dashboard cover, I already have the wood grain steering whell cover for the santa fe..looks nice, some chrome wheels, same size, hopefully, "gold santa fe" badge for the rear... as I have sandstone, but it's silver like everyone elses. I took off the "V6" and "Hyundai" Badge from the rear...it looks real nice and clean that way, to me anyway... That's all I can think of... what "mods" are you going to do to your santa fe?

I ordered the new Santa Fe LX 6 cylinder just 2 weeks ago. I went by the dealer this afternoon and I saw 2 Santa Fe's there. One was a Black LX AWD and the other was a Red GLS AWD. The black one had a build date plaque on the body between the driver and passanger door with the build date of December 16,2000. The red one had the build date of December 30,2000.
I am hoping that my Santa Fe will have a build date of January 2001 on it when it arrives at the dealer. The dealer said it would take 2 to 3 weeks before mine arrives. Do you think that I will get a January of February 2001 build date on mine? What's your input on this?
  • richardr4richardr4 Member Posts: 49
You have the third and so far final version of the Santa Fe. I doubt that there will be any others in the future. There may be some changes to the vehicle by model year but that's only normal.
I think anyhting bukilt after september or so 2000 would be a third generation model. Don't hold me to those dates but I think they are about right. Might be earlier than September 2000.

    Richard.
  • gtmustanggtmustang Member Posts: 41
What does it mean by 1st, 2nd & 3rd Generation when you are referring to the Santa Fe? Please explain. Does the vehicle that I ordered 2 weeks ago going to be a 3rd generation one? The dealer said that it might take 1 to 2 weeks before they get mine in. I saw 2 Santa Fe's at the dealer today. Both had build dates of December 2000 on the door jam between the front left driver's and passenger's door. One was Dec. 16, 2000 and the other was Dec.30, 2000. They just got these Sante Fe's in this week. Do you think that the one that will be coming in for me will have a build date of January 2001?

Ok. I was looking at a dealer tricked out Santa Fe and saw the wood grain kit on it for $495. WOW. expensive.

So being the car customizer I am I went home to see if I could get one online. Which I could... For much less that $495 and a little (repeat little) installation effort on my part.

Some kits come with only 4 or 5 pieces... another one comes with something like 13 pieces and includes side panels and comple center dash cover.

Here is the one I am going to go for..

I will be ordering one of these real soon.

Well, yesterday was the big day, just drove off the lot with our new GLS package 11. Got it at $1000 ($9something) off sticker, free pinstriping and even got them to take off the dealer prep charge ($349). I went to about 3 different Hyundai dealers and was getting bullied by all of them.

"Buy now, these things are hot, they are rushing off the floor." (which they were)
"These things are going for sticker, my manager isn't budging on them. If he gives you a deal, someone comes right behind you willing to pay premium... why would we bother."

So I used these jerks for all my questions and test driving, did my research on the net, got the dealer holdback amounts, invoice amounts and went into a place I hadn't been on the offensive....

"I don't wanna test drive, I don't need to look at the car... let's talk price. You got 10 people looking at the car and all 10 have walked away. I am ready to drive this one off the floor today for the right price."

I told the guy since the ARE such hot cars, then the dealership is putting that holdback in his pocket. Period. Fair market value is xx,xxxx and I will give you xx,xxx... the car is prepped for show which has already been figured into the dealership budget so you guys will be eating that cost. My salesman actually was impressed that he really didnt have to do any selling, that he approached his manager with a price less than what I told him I would pay, which was $800 below sticker. I guess he knows how his manager works. That is how I wound up with $200 off I wasn't expecting.

I am sure they made money off me regardless but it wasn't as much as they could have and I feel like I got a deal and had the upper hand the whole time. All in all preparation made for a great buying experience.

My biggest complaint... the fog lights didn't work. We tried them and tried them. Followed the owners manual... then finally after we got in for a nightly drive to the store... we pushed the button and they worked... is there an outside light sensor on this thing? Strange. We made an appointment to get it looked at anyway.

I am so glad we didn't get the Ford Escape.

The fog lights only come on when the head light switch is turned on, that is why when you went to the store at night , you turned the head lights on so now when you push the fog light switch the lights come on.

I purchased and installed the wooddash kit from Wooddash.com this kit was built by B&I trim of New York, B&I also builds the kit for Exociticwooddash.com. These kits leave a space between the air vent and the top the emergency push buttons.

The dash looks great, but it would look better if the missing space had been coverd.

I'm torn between buying a Mazda tribute and a Santa Fe. Looking for any and all opinions. Concerned about Santa Fe reliability, and have heard some negative things about Tribute. Mazda dealers have been very reluctant to go much below MSRP.

Like the rest of us on this particular board - you'll probably choose the SF. Unless of course the reliability issue scares you away. (Be brave most of us were where you are now before taking the plunge on our SF's.) The rest of us will enjoy our SF's anyway. A vehicle you are going to live in has to be an individual
    decision.

Our family test drove both and many more. We can each give you our opinions but obviously at the end of the day you have to be the one that is happy. Unless you see many negative posts you can assume that owners are happy. Good Luck on your decision.

GT - new SF 3rd generation is not being made anymore. Some still around butt SF now 4th generation for period till march then SF maybe stay there.

If dealer sell you 2-3rd gen, tell him no you want 4th. 4th much better --all problems gone. I know I sold old mustangs and both lexus to get 4th generation it best suv we all know I expect to get mine in March if not fired at job at Starbucks.

Most important is how many wood pieces does it take to cover all interior plastic and does new 12-year 120000 mile warranty starting with 4th generation in March cover wood too?

Does anyone know what polish to use for wood same as outside of SF?

Also, make sure you set aside plenty of time to build up your kit car the way you really wanted it. You know, semi-auto-climate control, "digital multimeter", spoilers, fender flares, wood dash, etc., etc. Too bad they don't make a "side-airbag kit". Oh, I forgot.... you saved lotsa money buying a SF, so safety doesn't matter.

Don't forget folks, you have GTMustang to thank for these messages.

Sorry for the interruption, enjoy your vehicles.

Yeah, we had the light switch on when we tested the fog lights.
headlights came one but no fog lights.

seemed like they came on at night though.

is it possible for the car to have daytime running lights when the headlights are on during the day and some type of light sensitive sensor that turns them into full headlights and enable fog lights? i dunno.

i do know the fog lights worked today during the day but it was not a bright day as it was raining.

maybe the connection was loose or something. ahhh i dunno... they work now.

did a lot of driving in the truck today in the heavy rain... LOVE IT!

i do wish the alarm had an audible arming sound...

anyone know if remote starting is a dealer option or something we need to get done aftermarket?

also... what about grille guards or tial light brush guard covers?

    time to trick it out.

    Steve -

In your recent post you state "Contact one of the following and ask for the Customer Affairs Department".

What phone number does a person call? Please post.

Watch out for GT Mustang. All he does is pretend. On the internet, that is an easy thing to do.

He goes on other Edmunds Town Hall boards and tells everybody he bought RX300. But he has no records, no VIN, no nothing. All he does is pretend.

For example, he told RX board that he had bought Santa Fe months ago and it was a great SUV.

It probably is good - but HE doesn't have one yet. Just like RX300 - it's all pretend.

Go back on your board and look at his posts. Tells everybody looking at other SUVs how dumb their decision would be. Because he wants to own SF some day he has to knock Lexus, Toyota, Honda, etc. GT must be very insecure person to have to criticize all other SUV owners to make him feel better. Pity, pity.

Look at GT's profile on Edmunds. He lists a 15-year old Toyota and 10-year old Mustang with 260,000 miles on it and rust holes big enough to crawl into -- which is where he lives.

So before you real SF owners let GT into the Santa Fe Owners Club - ask him for his Santa Fe's VIN. Just like the RX300 he never owned - he probably won't really buy a SF either. There's probably too many payments still left on the Toyota and Mustang.

"They like making fun of us..."

Nobody is making fun of the other SF owners here, only you. Why? Because you insist on doing it in the RX300 owners discussion. So it's ok for you to do this? He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword. Understand? Or is that a little over your head?

Try telling people the whole truth, rather than your version of it. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you'll get the 5th generation SF.

I just want to say that us Hyundai Santa Fe buyers and owners should be proud of our Hyundai vehicles. I think that we are more savvy than these RX300 owners who spend thousands ( more like $20 thousand more) more for a vehicle which gives them nothing but a yuppie status. If they want status, they should buy a Mercedes or a Rolls Royce, not a Lexus.
I think that we all here know that Hyundai is the BEST. Hyundai Rules !!!!

You brought this upon yourself... time for a little lesson about reality and different choices for different folks.

I personally extensively researched and test drove the SF and just about every mid-size SUV in the market for the last few months. Is the SF a good value for the money you are spending? Absolutley! My wife and I thought it was nice and were impressed with the strides that Hyundai had made.

But our priorities in our buying decision were safety and luxury. And out of the Tribute, Santa Fe, Escape, Pathfinder LE, Grand Cherokee Limited, Trooper, GMC Jimmy, Montero, and ones I'm probably forgetting, not a single one of them could match the combination of safety record, safety features, performance or luxury features of the RX300. Not a single one. And I can prove that with facts.

Does that make the SF a bad choice? No! It simply does not meet my (and others) priorities for safety, luxury and performance. But guess what? It might fit someone else's definition of those things, and the last time I checked this was America/Canada where people were free to have different priorities.

It's painfully obvious that as a human being your view of the world is extremely limited. You have yet to intelligently confront or debate any of my points.

If you think that the Santa Fe is unsafe then you are wrong. It has good crash result tests. And if you think that the Santa Fe is not Luxurious, then I would have to tell you to go out and buy glasses or contacts. Did you see the interior of the Santa Fe LX and how Luxurious the LX model is? You are obviously biased about all the good things which this vehicle has to offer and are opinionated when you say that the Santa Fe does not meet up to the RX300. We Santa fe owners think that it does meet up to the RX300 because it is well built and it is a solid vehicle with no problems. Okay, it's less money than the RX300, but that doesn't mean that it is inferior and that the RX300 is better.
What you state is your opinion and we Santa Fe owners are also entitled to ours.

Well, since you asked my opinion, here goes. I personally enjoy gtmustang's chats on this Edmunds Santa Fe discussion and the other Edmunds discussions that he's visited and left comments in. Your accusations toward him are both jumpy and uncalled for. Lexus has always seemed to be a nameplate-oriented car. In other words, you're paying premium for a nice car. I doubt whether they're really that long-lasting or really that much safer than a Hyundai Santa Fe or HG300. Of course, you have every right to purchase whatever you want. Hyundai and Kia are doing better than any car manufacturer right now, though. Why do I say this? They're listening to us. We're tired of overpriced whiny-butted cars like Honda's clogging up our streets. Too much money paid for a "proven" nameplate car. Not good enough anymore. Gt's comments are educated, helpful comments. The comments by those attacking him here are not well thought out and amount to something similar to sniffing Karl Malone's socks after he and J.Stockton have pushed and bullied another team to DEATH. You're not good enough Jazz. Give it up! I digress. At any rate, from here on out it's all Hyundai or Kia. You can't go wrong buying either one.

Thank you for supporting me here. Everything that you said in your post about the name-plated oriented Lexus and the winy-butted overpriced cars on the road today is 100% true. I have the same opinions and beleifs that you do about this. Yes, FINALLY one car company by the name of Hyundai is doing things different and better than the other guys. We will have a bigger following as time passes on and the other car companies will eventually lose out on market share and profits. I even hope that some of them go bankrupt. I am hoping for this to happen because car companies like Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Infinity, and Nissan have been screwing the American public with their over-priced, over-rated and average quality cars. They keep increasing their prices causing Americans to have $500 and $600 monthly payments and higher for a piece of metal. I think that this is a big joke. Both domestic and foreign automakers have taken advantage of stupid Americans who are willing to dish out their hard earned money for a depreciating asset that gives no return on investment.
Hyundai has found the niche and is able to offer their products at a much much lower price than any of the other automakers. Their cars are just as nice looking as the competition's cars, but a lot cheaper. Hyundai is hated for this by their competition. People like us who purchase Hyundais are making a point out there in Americaland to the other auto manufacturers. It is this: "We are not going to overpay for a vehicle anymore!"
As long as Hyundai keeps building low cost high quality vehicles people like me and others in here will support them. Let everybody else [non-permissible content removed] and moan about the high cost of a vehicle. We Hyundai owners don't do that because we are more savvy than the average car buyer.

"What you state is your opinion and we Santa Fe owners are also entitled to ours."

Exactly! So us RX300 owners are getting tired of your opinion when you drone on in the RX300 discussion forum. Do you get it yet?

Okay, now let's deal with facts, not opinions:

"If you think that the Santa Fe is unsafe then you are wrong. It has good crash result tests."

Okay, where are those results? Can you provide a link to them so that we can all read them? Where is the side-airbags? Auto-leveling HIDs? Vehicle stability and skid control technology? Full ISO tethers for child seats? Anti-pinch for all windows and moonroof? Collision fuel-cutoff? Collapsible steering column?

"And if you think that the Santa Fe is not Luxurious..."

I never said that, I said it doesn't meet my needs of luxury. Where's the power driver's seat? Power passenger's seat? Memory settings for the seat adjustments? Electrochromic side-view mirrors? Auto-climate control? Fully integrated 230 watt stereo with 6-CD changer, subwoofer, RDS capable radio? Navigation system? Vehicle information and maintenance system? Power moonroof? Fully trimmed leather interior? HomeLink transceiver?

And let's not talk about performance because the RX will win in that category too.

Again, read my lips: This does not mean the SF is a bad choice. It just means that folks have different needs and priorities.

You don't like seem to like to deal in facts, only your opinion.
