Go to http://trax.to/jtkv and click on colours and then scroll down to the pine green. It is like the lower third SaFe photo and the larger one. The upper two pine greens are too green!

I am just about ready to purchase a SaFe but I am not confident that I am getting the lowest price. I live in the Midwest and prices aren't comming off the sticker at all. Could anyone let me know what the going rate is in their area or how I can go about getting a good price? Thanks!

Scottfs, I shopped my area, Louisville, KY and have 3 dealerships within 30 min of each other, and I got my Black GL 2wd w/utility pkg, plus cross rails for an even $19,000 NOT A PENNY MORE. They had some GLS for $21,000. I had to work the deals. They took off dealer prep charges, plus other stuff that was simple add on prices, and I also told the dealer..I can go buy one in Indiana, which is across the river, for a little bit more, but I wanted their car ( color and options etc..)and had them take $500.00 off So it pays to look, but I do know our dealerships here have at least a minimum of 5 SFe's on their lots with the one I bought mine from with at least 10 on their lot. Good luck

Hello Hung, I am talking about the metal part INBETWEEN the side-windows. Perhaps it is not called the style (that's my lack of English knowledge) but it is normally referred to as A-, B- and C-'something' (always from front to rear).
Have a look at the Santa Fe Picture Gallery at http://trax.to/jtkv (under set-00 'colours'). You can see that on the first 2 pictures of each color the body-metal is black inbetween the windows while in the third picture the color is equal to the body-color. On the picture on the main page of that site it is different again: the B-bar is black and the C- in body-color.

    Hi,
Looks like Hyundai Santa Fe is blowing away the competition! Read this! I saw this posted on "Hyundai News Updates" on http://www.santafeforum.com or you can also find it here at

I got it! I know what you are talking about it now! Which one do you like better the black or the color body match? Most people prefer to get the color body match because they are nicer. I believe all of the SaFe in the USA come with color body match. "It is just a style"! I believe in Korea if a lower model have the black and higher model have color...
  • tulpenhamtulpenham Member Posts: 32
OK Hung! Good that I found a way to explain what I meant! But how do you call these parts of the car?
Personally, I like the black because in that way it looks as if the side of the car is one large window. The body-color would visually break the side into 3 different parts. Anyway, it is of course a matter of taste...
As far as I know, we can only get the black option in our country.

Thanks for the installation tidbits. Installed mine today in less than 1/2 hr. My 4 predrilled C clamps connectors came with 4 fittings which needed an allen wrench for tightening. The allen wrench came with the kit.It looks great!

I found a site that has 2 different wood/carbon dash kits. One has 30 pieces, that covers almost every piece of trim, including the rear cup holder and glove back trim. The price listed was $185.00 The other kit, which was 12 pieces, was $150.00. BOTH HAVE THE MISSING PIECE !!!

    http://www.edashkit.com

Just incase you were still looking for the kits. I am thinking of getting the 12 piece one myself

  • ramadaramada Member Posts: 27
What is up with the missing piece? Are manufacturers stupid or what? What is so hard about molding or measuring that missing piece? Seems like there's 6-7 wood dash kits out there, ALL not having the missing piece!!! It's not like it hard to make, if you're making woodtrim around curves etc...door panels, etc...just fill in the missing piece!

Thanks for the heads up! My dealer also has the wood dash trim kit, it COVERS the missing piece, the photogrpah though only shows the center console, air vents, etc...and the top portion over the air vents covered nicely... BUT it didn't show the arm rests, the cup holder part, the shift gear part, etc... so I'm still waiting, until SOMEONE has EVERY piece, good quality, and not this cheapy stuff either that I hear is now falling apart. LOL

    Thanks

Thank you Wales for find the site that have the wood dash kit without the missing pieces. I really like both of the 30 pieces set. The color they have really close to match with my existing wood dash kit too. I was planning to buy this set and add to my existing set too..
    Thank you.

I JUST ORDERED THE 30 PIECES DASH KIT FROM EDASHKIT.COM. WILL POST WHEN RECEIVED THE PRODUCT...

  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
I think I am about to ordered it too. I like the missing gap, club compartment pieces, the rear cupholder, and the side trim speedometer...Which I don't have it with my current wood dash kit. I guessed we are going to have the same taste...Talk to you later or in the other forum later.
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
Glad the site has been helpful. I am probably going to get the 12 piece set myself. I have called Hyundai M-A and so far..the one that they offer is a 5 piece set, but I have another call in to see what pieces they cover. The edash kits look nice, and are to me a great price too.
Hung..you keep saying "club compartment" I think you are meaning '"glove box'"or..do you really carry a club in the car? just a joke my SFe friend !
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
Yes! I mean the glove box...Sorry!!

I wonder why they call it the glove box. Its not a box, and I don't keep gloves in it. I got a ton of papers in it, ie..hyundai manual, state papers, service records, etc.. but no gloves !
It should be called the stuff compartment or the crap organizer or the junk retaining device.
I am glad to know that Hung does not carry a club and that his See project is going well. As we say here at Derby time.."Go Baby Go"
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
How's about the "Storage Compartment"! Does this sound right! I know they don't really have a good name for it. Most of my friends call it the club compartment, and some of my relatives call it the club box...I like it to call the the "Storage Compartment" now...
  • peytonroadpeytonroad Member Posts: 27
I keep gloves in mine- I guess I'm the odd one:)
Picked up my new Pewter 4WD LX yesterday and cleaned out the contents of my 1990 Honda Accord LX's glove box last night and did the transfer to the the SaFe.
Ran errands today and the car is nothing but awesome!

You have exactly what I'm looking for with the thermometer. Could you please post a picture of it and where you got the thing from. I really miss it from my '95 Blazer and would like to get one for our SaFe. Is it powered by battery or do you plug it into the lighter? Thanks!

    I just thought everyone might find this interesting;

I was at the local dealer in Sheboygan, WI and saw what I thought were two fully loaded Santa Fe LX's with Pkg. 13 on the lot, kind of unusual given the tight supply.

Closer inspection showed they had 12 & 15 miles on them, but had used vehicle stickers. That's odd...

They turned out to be Canadian spec. Santa Fe GLS's, with Leather, ABS, T/C, the good Clarion stereo, no cargo cover, Daytime Running Lights, and the shorter Canadian Warranty, for U.S. $22,500, and one was already sold.

I knew of some Ford dealers importing Escapes from Canada due to short supply, but I was unaware of any Hyundai dealers doing this.

I have to give them credit for finding a way to get some product to sell.
  • guyf1guyf1 Member Posts: 50
I read on the Pathfinder forum that many US owners came and bought their vehicles in Canada and had net savings of about $4,500.00US after taking into account the 2.5% import fee.

The GLS retails for about $30,500. CDN. At todays exchange rate, that means $19,678. US. Add the 2.5% => $20,170. So the US dealer may have bought it at retail from a Canadian dealer and is still making $2,500.00

You can go to Hyundaicanada.com for the specs of our GLS.

Nissan USA lets you "register" the "imported" car at a US dealer and they'll honor the full warranty. Honda USA doesn't "recognize" Canadian purchased vans for warranty purposes, so the "new/used" Odysseys that US border dealers sell generally come with an aftermarket warranty. Be interesting to see what Hyundia's position is.

OK Hung! Good that I found a way to explain what I meant! But how do you call these parts of the car?

Sorry! I forgot to answer you about this parts!
Actually they don't really have a real name for it...Basically if you in US they all comes with it I believe. Other countries might come with other and for sure in Korea have both and give people the choice to choose from... "There is not really a good answer for it"! Also there is not really a good name for it too...

Does anyone know if you can buy some sort of self-adhesive strips to cover the roof ridges that are in the roof rack area? If I do put something up there, it will likely scratch the paint. I'd like to protect them as much as possible. Also, has anyone (besides wxeye - post #1901) installed any outside thermometer for their SaFe? I really would like to get one but can seem to find one that has a backlight - searched Yahoo shopping and came up empty! Thanks!

    Hi all,

This is my first time posting on this message board, though I've been following this board for several weeks. I've found this board quite helpful. For the past month, the deals around LA area didn't have any V6 SaFes but just this week, every dealer has got a few. That's why I've been busy visiting dealers around the LA area. I guess it's hard to get a GLS with ABS and traction control, that's why I've switched my choice to LX with ABS and traction control. My best offer so far is $500 over invoice ($21400) which comes to $21900 + tax and etc. Could you guys tell me if I should go ahead and get it or should I shop around more to find better deal? The gas price is going sky rocketed and I was thinking maybe the price might come down due to sluggish economy. Also, please tell me if you know where I can steal a deal in southern California. Thank you in advance for your input. Any inputs will be appreciated.

It seems to me since I passed 5000 miles that the Santa fe shifts much smoother, and the engine seems to run smoother and with more power.

Has anyone else noticed thier vehicle running and shifting smoother,or is it just my imagination.
  • rbnatorrbnator Member Posts: 14
I have also noticed more power but as for the smoother shifting I have noticed that when I am driving in the manual mode there appears to be a lag from first to second gear then from 2nd to third or fourth. I have just over 5k and things are just fine so far. I am going to make an appointment to bring mine in for routine service and make sure everthing is ok.

I think you are talking about the pillars. The A-pillar, B-pillar and so on.
  • shivelytshivelyt Member Posts: 46
responding to Mikel12, the place to buy is at Drew Hyundai in San Diego. They gave me $1,000 off sticker in Feb on a GLS. Maybe they do better now. Look up their inventory at drewhyndai.com and click the button for a fast quote. The process worked well for me.
  • tulpenhamtulpenham Member Posts: 32
Pheo, I think you are right. Then my question/remark is that some SaF's have black pillars and others have them in body-color. Here in Holland we don't have a choice and get the SaF with black pillars. So how about other countries? Do you have a choice or is it determined by Hyundai?
  • peytonroadpeytonroad Member Posts: 27
Go through the Costco Auto program - join Costco ($45) if you don't already belong- it is completely worth it. I got my LX at fleet prices - $750 below msrp.- also, it was under edmunds "TMV" price.
Love my car, get one :)

    Thermometer Sample:
    TradeNet

    Pillars:
Hyundai called it pillars but other not really!

    Buying Santa Fe:
I paid for my Nordic White Santa Fe LX, ABS+TCS at 24890 out the door. Invoice price: 21999 but I paid for 22714+tax+license. If you get any deal better this then you'll should be feel good. I am in San Francisco and tax was high. I don't whoever paid cheaper than mine but you should be aware that this car is going to have higher value soon. The car is still cheap. Don't regret for what you get with the price...

    Mile Improvement:
If you feel that your car is smoother than you are in the real break-in period. If you haven't feel smoother than your car is not in a real break-in period yet...Beside break-in period you will also notice that the car is a little faster too...

I just had my new Santa Fe out at night for the first time and want to compare interior lighting. I am a little disappointed to find that only one of the drivers door control switches lights up, the drivers window control. All others are unlighted, i.e. other windows and mirror contol. Is this normal or a defect? Nothing in the owners manual on this. My other U.S. built cars all have complete lighting of control buttons. THanks!

  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
This is very normal for the Santa Fe as well as many of it competitors car too. However, I was thinking to highlight it with the glow-in-the-dark liquid. I haven't try but will be someday soon...

"I believe you are talking about the illuminated doorlight switches"!

Since I got my Santa Fe GLS 4wd about 4weeks ago, I have been having a problem with the Gas cap cover opening when I use the lever inside the car down below my drivers seat.
It has taken a few times to get it open. Now when I went to fill up my tank today, it would not open at all !!!! This sucks. Not that it is a big deal mechanically . It just takes away from my time of bringing it in to the dealership and having to deal with it.
Anyone else having a problem with the gas cap??
  • akimmelakimmel Member Posts: 10
Hi there, yes it is the switches on the door for windows and mirror control. By the way, have you been able to get your trip computer working yet? Neat piece of gear that wish was available as option here.

  • pik20bpik20b Member Posts: 1
Does the GLS have armrests on the driver's seat?
  • akimmelakimmel Member Posts: 10
Not really, there is a raised padded area on the center console comfortable to rest your right arm when on the gear shift, and of course your left arm rests nicely on the door arm rest...not the "Captains chair" arrangement you see in larger SUVs. But I am pleased with mine.

    Hi there again!
Actually the trip computer is a next project. HDK told me that the trip computer should be easier than the A/T climate control. They are still working with the relay and some circuit go through the ECU. Hopefully the A/T climate control work as soon possible. Once the A/T climate control is working then they will work with Trip Computer=Digital Multimeter system.

"I did not know that they have to go through with relay and ECU"! The A/T climate use more power and therefore it has to go through with relay and ECU"! HDK will advise me and give me up-to-date message almost every week...Thank you for your interesting...Once the project is done I will post it here so that everyone can purchase for an upgrade from HDK...

Last full tank of gas from Chevron, average 10.8 L/100km (driving 80% on highway) compares to 13L/100km filled up in Superstore(May be poor quality, since Superstore always sell cheapest gas) on the one before.

Wow! 10.8L/100Km can believe it! Hope the current filled up tank can keep the same fuel efficiency.

Tips to save gas: 1) Turn off your Air-con as much as possible.
    2) Don't not press accelerator when down hill, u can shift to neutral for a few sec if u want SF to go faster..and then keep on 3rd/2rd gear & apply brake when approximate.
    3) Turn off your car when doing long wait (eg. wait at railway cross, waitting to pickup your children in school...etc.)
    4) On a hot day, drive your SF with your SF rear window open is a alternative to Air-Con, and very stylist to drive, draw a lot of drivers attention especially the one follow you! I've always droven with my rear window open at 80km-100km/hr. No problem in safety at all, of course but very noisy. Not recommended drive over 100km/hr (Becasue I never tested at about 100km/hr).

Any one have more tips to save gas? Pls share!

Well..I took my SFe into shop for a window rubber trim replacement piece, and the dealership had the croos rail recall notice there for me, so that is being done. I had not received the notice from HMA but the dealership was already on the ball. Also..I have the hesitation problem alot of people talk about, and today, the service rep I have been dealing with said he too has noticed it. So..at least the OWNERS of the vehicles arent the only ones who notice it. He is having the tech look it over and see what they can find. I have a 4 cy. GL. automatic.
BTW..has anyone gotten their dash trim kit from edashkit.com yet? If so..lets see some pics !!

I installed Thule cross bars on my roof rack and had terrible wind noise.

Back at the place where I bought the rack, they offered a product from Yakima called WindJammer.

It is a wing shaped piece of plastic (8") that snaps on the front cross bar.

I was very sceptical but tried it anyway(They would refund me if it did not work) and I was amazed by the result. Wind noise is gone! It probably work on other cross bars than the Thule or Yakima. (Somebody need to check the Huyndai cross bars which I havent seen.) Cheap too, $15. US

Thanks you STEVE for you helpful Tips links!

Glad I was already doing exactly most of the recommendations gas saving tips for a long time!

I am thinking to kick my spare tire off my SF's bottom.... In city it seems no need to have the spare tire.....In my 20+ driving experience never ....never need to change tire on road.... have tires punctured by nails before but if u don't removed the nails u still can drive safely to tire store to get fix.....Plus I have Hyundai's & BCAA Gold membership.... Once call, they will come to rescue.....they may tow my SF to the nearest tire shop.....

Do U think of any protential dangers by not carrying my spare tire in city?..... Pls comment!

I am still waiting for my wood dash from Edash.kit to come. Expected very soon. So now I have 2 dash kit to play with...I really like the 30 pieces and I think that will do it plus I have them customized a few more pieces for me and expected those customized pieces in about 2-3 weeks.
