For those of us who "own" SRT's, any variant, can tell you that most problems are isolated.
Example, I've been away for quite sometime overseas. When I returned from 4 months over travel, went out on this past Wednesday to start the SRT. It started, but quickly died out, and this happened over the course of five times. I went out the next morning to attempt, and sure enough, it did once more. So an old trick of years ago on Chrysler vehicles came to mind and I unhooked the negative end of the battery terminal to give the computer time to regenerate itself. After about 3hrs, I hooked it back up and it fired up like a gem. And I thought Eureka. But that was short lived as I went back to get into the car, every single warning light was on. My in-cluster trip computer was fried, and the locks and windows weren't working.
So I thought while I got it started, I need to get it over to the dealer. Well, when I got there, the Service Manager says this happens "regularly". I thought hmm, yeah that's very comforting. Well after a whole day in the shop, they called to tell me that the ECM is fried and that it's on back order for 3 weeks. So now, I don't have my Jeep and I find it very hard to understand that since the car wasn't driven in months, that made it have a brain melt down. So in talks in DCX, which as you know, doesn't go very far.
Hopefully this will be the end of it all as the truck has been very durable up until this point. We'll have to see.
BTW: Since when has SRT been a separte company away from DCX? How does Chrysler tell you they've stop paying for the rental because they've turned it over to SRT? That's baloney if I've never heard it, ok maybe from some on this thread, but that's just the company basically pushing you away.
I hope all goes well for you and keep us posted. Also, don't be afraid to buy any SRT, AMG, M type cars as I've owned(own) many of them without any problems. But they all have their share of differances and qualities, for good and for worse...
That posting is truly UNBELIEVABLE. And trust me when I say UNBELIEVABLE I mean UNBELIEVABLE.
I find it truly unbelieveable, I mean really unbelieveable, that a forum memeber can still carry out bashing parties this long. Truly amazing...
Don't buy all of the stories that you read here from one particular poster. They are fiction. He doesn't have an SRT8 and makes this stuff up. Unfortunately, it just gives bad information to the rest of us. It's pretty weird...and very sad.

Those of us that post regularly on this forum rely on it for accurate information, therefore it is incumbent upon all posters to simply be honest. Unfortunately, there is one poster that we have caught making things up on more than one occasion over the past 8 months and newer forum members don't know about that person.
If that person wants to provide opinions and mark them as such, that's great and is one of the things these forums and the internet is for. However when there are obviously made up stories of how their vehicle self-destructed and that they were told by the dealer that "this happens regularly", you (Edmonds) has a problem. If I were you, I might consider that you might even be opening yourself up to legal issues with DCX when you allow someone to post stories like this as fact on your website.
Let's be clear. I have not attacked anyone. I have, however tried to warn unsuspecting people on this forum that there is untrue information being posted and to be careful. If I was going to attack this person, I would have gone to the other Edmonds forums that this person posts on and start warning those people that they are being fed a lot of bad information (and believe me I've seen some of his other postings).
This particular forum has provided those of us with Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8's some valueable information over the past 8-10 months and I would like to see it kept that way. Bad information like telling us that he was told by the dealer that the vehicle electronics frying is a "regular" occurance can cause the rest of us and DCX problems.
It's just like the black aftermarket wheels that he said that he had on the vehicle six months ago. Those of us that have tried to find aftermarket wheels for that vehicle know darn well that there aren't any made that fit it. It's also like the fog lights he told someone else that he had put on his vehicle. They kept coming back and saying that they couldn't find such a thing. It's as simple as the interior color option that he said that he had on his vehicle. There isn't such an option. And then there's the MOPAR spoiler that he said he installed on his vehicle.
If you have a better way to warn people about this person, then please let me know...and as I told you six months ago, if this person can prove me wrong, I will apologize.
I couldn't possibly have made all this foolishness up. BTW my court date is set for May 10. On another note, how much everyone is paying for oil changes.
If a particular poster(s)doesn't like the way another is participating on this thread, then he or she should keep brash and insensitive comments to themselves. This is not the place to disprove someone or to carry a baseless claim out.
After all, we are all adults(hopefully) and should act so accordingly.
Asappcory, I'm very sorry that you misinterpreted what I meant in the body of my post. You were plainly blinded by blasphemy. I was merely trying to explain that I feel your pain when dealing with DCX. Please forgive me and keep me updated on your battle with Chrysler.
As for me, I picked my car up on yesterday. All is well. Hopefully this will not damp my OWNERSHIP experience, as next time, I just may have to lease...

Someone looking for Dealer Invoice may want to check out this dealership. They have 9 SRT8’s in stock and want to move inventory. They offered a silver up at invoice. Black is likely to go higher.

Per the user manual (see link below to download it yourself free prior to purchase), the vehicle comes without a jack and spare due to run flat tires. See page 258.
My dealer suggested 1,500 miles for break-in but did state that the 6.1 engine is put on a dyno and broke-in prior to installation on the car. Per the user manual (see page 64 and section posted here), a long break-in period is not required for the engine in your new vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km). After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable. While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration, within the limits of local traffic laws, contributes to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided.
The manufacturer recommends the use of a full synthetic engine oil, such as Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40 or equivalent. See page 307.
Per the manual, you should change the oil every 6,000 miles or 6 months UNLESS any of the following apply to you. This definition is so broad changing every 3,000 makes sense. See page 306.
- Day or night temperatures are below 32°F (0°C)
- Stop and go driving
- Extensive engine idling
- Driving in dusty conditions
- Short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km)
- More than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 90°F (32°C)
- Trailer towing
UConnect is Chrsler's Blue Tooth cell phone integration. The manual say to go to www.jeep.com/uconnect but that does not work. Go to http://www.jeep.com/crossbrand/uconnect/jeep/interface.html and you can look up which phones are supported.
I opted to avoid the DVD Entertainment System due to center ceiling mount location and use of rear seat space. This unit will block your rear view. Dealer will install Advent (I think this is the brand) dual headrest system. While this cost $2,299 you can get it for $1,899. This is still $699 over the factory installed model but takes up zero space and let's one movie be show on both units or two independent movies run at the same time. Wireless headsets included.
Standard pricing (NY/NJ/CT area) for extended warranty is $2,499 with 0 deductible for 6 years and 70,000 miles. This was discounted to $1,849 and roadside was included for the entire term. I also picked up the tire/wheel damage replacement given the low profile tires for $480 discounted for the full 6 years and 70,000 miles. Unless I am missing something, forget GAP there is a full vehicle replacement warranty, which provides full vehicle purchase price replacement at theft for 5 years or 50,000 miles for $380 discounted.
TireRack.com and DiscountTireDirect.com show no winter tires available for the 20" staggered factory wheels. Tire Rack does offer 19" wheel/tire combinations.
No one has commented but you can get out of manual shift mode to fully automatic by holding the stick to the right for 1 second.

BTW: You may want to re-read TIDESTER's post 798: "We're here for the cars and not the people". If what you're trying to do is to get me to stop posting here, well it's not working and I may suggest you stop it because there are many pre-teens that act with more maturity...
Now can we please get back to talking about the SRT that most of us owners are here for....
I also tried a local route to see how the system handled local streets. The system suggested I take a right fork which was a one way/do not enter from my currect position.
To make matters worse, using the default settings of quickest route had me going past the target street and going 2-1/2 miles out of my way around the block.
The 5th Generation Lexus navigation system is far superior and leaves me very disapointed with the Chrysler navigation system. But then again stepping on the gas makes me forget about these shortcomings, for now anyway...
Basically, it's not as intuitive as the Lexus, Acura, or Audi/VW units.
My oil changes are included in my finance payments. They're about $8 a month which I thought was a bargan!
htron, don't be fooled. Trust me, you're never going to get a pic of his spoiler or rims. I'm with kec8
Your oil changes at about $8 per month are a great bargain, as one change runs about $85. If you have more than one oil change per year (which I'm going to assume that you will) you will be far ahead. Is there any limitation on the number of oil changes you get for that? How many miles do they have you go between covered oil changes?
Has anyone had any issues with the Driver Memory Buttons saying "Memory Disabled" 90% of the time whether you're in park or in gear? How about issues with the radio station part of the memory not remaining in the memory?
The SRT experience was awesome! I'm in So Fla. and went to the Homestead speedway. They had a 300 with the mopar exhaust and intake doing on the lap event, and it sounded so mean. I have the DUB intake and it made a pretty big sound difference, but I don't know about HP increase - maybe 5hp more. The exhaust is next!
No issues that you've mentioned, but the windows do bizaar things when I do auto-up on both sides.
By the way, how were you able to post that photo in the body of your text?
First the pics have to be "hosted" somewhere. Then to show them use these tags: <img src="http address of the hosted picture"> in the body of your message.

Have had mine since July, great fun! Had Daytime driving lites turned on at dealer, same as a Canadian car, CAN NOT be reversed back to US mode. It seems to also made a difference in shifting (for the better). Also had a rear window air deflector installed by JEEP, kit was about $95 and dealer installation was about $50. It sure keeps the rear window free of road spray when raining.
The SRT Track Experience was a blast at Lime Rock last Nov. everyone should, no, must take advantage of this, it's free. Haven't seen any on L.I. yet, maybe because I live on the North Fork. Mullen Mtrs. has been very accommodating in their service.
BTW, you may have just convinced me to get the spoiler. The rear window spray is terrible, and usually keeps me from taking her out when it rains - or even turning around and finding a different route when I come accross a sprinkler wet road if just washed.
I don't know...it didn't make much sence to me either.
Mine is a black 2006, probably one of the last ones made.

BTW I also only get a 1000mi/qt of oil. Had my 1st oil & filter chg--$108, OUCH !!!
My 2006 Hemi Grand Cherokee has about 20,000 and has never used even a 1/4 quart total the whole 20,000 miles. I use Mobil One 5W20 every three thousand miles. I buy the oil 7 quarts @$6 or $42 total and take it to the Jeep dealer. They (Mac Grubbs Jeep) changed oil and filter for $12.95 for a total cost per oil change of about $56 per oil change.
DRL's do require a computer code to change them. If they are not switched on and you want DRL-just switch on your fog lights which will work just as well and the bulb will be less expensive and easier to replace.
Using the hall/tow mode (dash board switch) does eliminate D or over drive and the shifting pattern (rpm) is more "aggressive" and is excellent for mountain driving.
I pre-ordered the first Durango with the Hemi. I think I got the first one in Omaha...and there had been such a media blitz surrounding the whole "That Thing Got a Hemi?" It was crazy...people would yell that catch phrase at me at red lights and driving by. But, alas, I dont love my Durango. I want the JGC SRT-8.
Yes, there is a question in here. I have gotten conflicting reports regarding the towing. The dealer we talked to today said, "No towing...will void the warranty" yet I see all over the internet that it is rated for 3500 lbs. Will someone please tell me what the truth is about whether you can actually get a tow package put on an SRT-8 without voiding the warranty? Trailer - 800 lbs / two jetski's - 1400 lbs (max) Total - 2200 lbs max
I probably wouldve driven one home today...if that question had been answered.....They had the black one that I wanted.
If I cant get the SRT-8 to tow, then I am just going to keep my Durango. I wouldnt love the Overland knowing I didnt have the fastest or the coolest. Pity my poor husband...he's trying to make me happy : )
HOWEVER, you can have a class III hitch from Jeep custom installed, but you'll probably have to move the exhaust tips out. If you just move them down (as other owners have done) the hitch will get hot and possibly cause injury or damage to the vehicle itself. That's the complaint I've heard. In that case, Jeep will not be liable.
But the warrenty WILL cover any damages caused to the engine or transmission (the most important & expensive parts that need coverage) by towing 3500lbs or less if the hitch is properly installed - the truck's GVRW is rated at 3500lbs.
blkhemi has a rear spoiler, and I've asked him several times to post pics, but he never replies and never posts pics, so I don't know if he can't because he doesn't have a camera or what...
Anyway, I agree with what Megasrt8 (I think it was him?) said about towing, manual says 3500, you just have to get the right receiver/hitch. Not sure where Mopar stands on this right now.
With the exhaust moved out:
With a smaller hitch for light trailers and bike rack:
