There's $1500.00 cash back on 07's. You may have to go to a Jersey dealer to get it. Not many 07's left. :(

Like my first sales manager in the car business always said It aint rocket science!

That’s old lingo!! We here have been taught by a shy poster that it’s: “It ain’t rocket surgery”. How do you expect to sell cars if you subscribe to an old line like that? ;)

Jescue do you have XF pricing yet?
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
Not yet- they tell us they will start in the mid 50K range. I loaded all of ours with nav, i expect they will be in the low 60s.

Just took a 06 XJ8 Vander Plas in trade with 4800 miles on it - Had trouble getting buy bids on it. What a gorgeous automobile.
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
You need to drive it- very impressive, especially for a big car.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yeah that is kind of what I figured.

How much do you figure you need to add for the supercharged model? Say another 5,000?
  • jescuejescue Member Posts: 521
Mor like 8,000 I would say. The supercharged comes standard with every option.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Ok so a XF-Supercharged will be a tiny bit less then a Base XJ8. Makes sense.
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Addendum: Just got to the store and there's special rates on the 08's. Looks like %3.9 $4.9, 5.9% for 36/48/60 months.

Way to screw up the forum with the over aspect ratio picture there.

As for my opinion of the car...

What's wrong with the aspect ratio? Looks just like I got it from the source. As far as your opinion of the car :P seems to me you're jealous.

I saw it in person this past weekend. The one I saw was white. They started it up, but that was it. I think it will run fast, but I'm not sure it will do that well in sales against the M3 or AMG C or the Audi S4 even. All things considered I would still probably go German at around 50 to 60 large.

I don't think it looks that bad, but getting die hard euro drivers to convert will be a huge challenge.

You may want to become a disciple of Guru Bobst and his teachings. That is, if you go in expecting nothing... that is exactly what you will get. No... that's not it. It's "I go in expecting to be treated poorly, that way I'm not disappointed when I'm not." Something like that. :P

But, I know what you mean. The only lies that irritate me are when I'm told the dealership has a car on the lot I'm interested in, then when I show up, BOOM... it's already been sold. "But here's something else you may be interested in." Waste my valuable time will ya.

Of course I don't think any of our friendly sales folk here would resort to such deceitful behavior, maybe one or two... names with-held. Unfortunately it's a roll of the dice it will happen. Lieing is part of the game, try not to let it bother you and be prepared.

  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Me personally will not resort to that type of behaviour. Our call center is a different story. They have been instructed to tell customers we have cars that are already sold. Their logic is if someone comes in they may see something else they like. RIGHT. I've had more pissed off customers due to that then anything else. I usually steer away from them when they tell me they are here to see a car that's already been sold. I direct them to the receptionist so the "team" can deal with them. :(

I saw the IS F several months ago at the local autoshow. I wasn't really impressed with the looks then, and it isn't any better looking now. At that price I can think of many cars I'd much rather have. Lexus has always been just like their parent company: take a car, refine it to the point where it has no faults and no character, and market it to people who don't really love cars.

Even when they build a performance car, it just doesn't call to me the way similarly priced rivals do. I'd go with a BMW, Mercedes, or even Nissan (with the 370Z and Skyline on the way) first.

Then again, I'm not in Lexus's target demographic (yet) either. I'm too young, and too broke. :D

    What!

You don't like slab-sided vehicles with no room in the back seat & marginal driving dynamics.

    For shame!

They have been instructed to tell customers we have cars that are already sold.

I've had this happen multiple times. Called to verify that a vehicle listed on website inventory was actually there and when I arrived *poof* the excuses begin to flow.
And it is only Toyota dealers that have pulled this stunt.

When I sold Toyota's this was not a practice at the store I was at.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yeah I know what the hell is wrong with me.

It's big of you to actually admit that your dealership engages in such practices. It's things like this that give car dealers the bad reputation they have. They should realize that when people call for a specific car, they are looking for a specific car. Luring them in will ultimately piss them off to the point that they will never come back and have them tell everyone they know and post on the internet about how shady the dealer is.

How do you know that for a car that hasn't even been released? OK, I give you the cramped back seat, but aren't they all? At the end of day it may not drive like a M, but I'll keep an open mind. The new G37 appears to give the 335 a decent run, although I have not driven either of them.

Yeah, I'd rather think of (with apologies to all the other countries in the Americas) America as a nation of Patriots rather than Cowboys! Patriot Nation! Not to mention The Red Sox...

But, we do kinda have a Cowboy President... Discuss. Well, don't unless one of y'all sold him a car and can tell a story!

Ok, Cleveland fans. Care to prognosticate as did the Bengal faithful? I'm going with The Pats... ;)

It was probably just a coincidence that it happened to you with Toyota dealers. At my store it began when we started having management changes from non-Toyota folks to Ford, then Honda, now Volkswagen, who knows who will be next. The guys that been there a while have just about seen it all. Only reason we stick around is just like the weather her in Tidewater. If you don't like it, stick around and it will change. ;)

You, Jipster, Joel, Jmonroe, and Houdini1 have been very nice guys. Maybe I shouldn't be this way but, as Richard Nixon once said, "I forgive but I NEVER forget." People deserve to know about bad dealers.

Maybe my attitude will be better tomorrow. I have an appointment with the dealer who sold me the Chrysler three years ago. He's about 90 miles from here and has a convertible that interests me. Though we don't like our car, we were treated very nicely and it was a fair deal. I PROMISE you guys that I will make sure the payoff is on the paperwork! Also, you have helped me. I have studied the TMV pricing, the Holdbacks, Incentives, Rebates, MSRP, Invoice, value of my trade-in, etc. I won't be a difficult customer. I know that they have to make a profit but I want the best deal that I can get. I PROMISE not to say "Let me talk with my wife", "Does someone want to sell me a car today?", "The dealer across town offered me a better deal.", or "I'll think about it and call you tomorrow." Now at least I know some of the things that you guys don't like to hear. Wish me luck and I'll let you know how things turn out when I get back on Monday. After my appointment, I'm headed to the coast for the weekend. Mackabee, I'm saying prayers for your treatments. Get well because we consumers need honest car salesmen.
