Wow, that's a tough one. Have you checked out the tubular systems that expand in height & width? http://www.futurepets.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=MW10

Does anyone know if the 15" alloy from the Sport is available from the dealer as an accessory for the base (LX in Canada) model?
  • crimsonacrimsona Member Posts: 153
It's going to be a lot cheaper to buy the wheels off a private seller (Sport upgrading to something else).

Collegehillshonda lists the 15 inch as more expensive than the HFP 16s.

Has anyone seen aftermarket floor mats for the fit yet? I refuse to pay $80 for floor mats.
  • mebmanmebman Member Posts: 100
I have checked with several manufacturers that say it will be a few months before they get a template for aftermarket mats.
  • fitfulleefitfullee Member Posts: 2
I shopped the internet for floor mats and bought them from College Hills Honda (Collegehillshonda.com, I think). They were $70 plus shipping (to California) which was still less than the local dealer quote of $99 plus sales tax. The install was a little more complex than I expected.

BJ's Warehouse has a set of 4 heavy 50 oz black carpet mats that were on sale this week for $15. If you reverse them by putting the traditional front mats in the back, back in the front of the Fit, they "Fit" fairly well. I also have a pair of Pep Boys rubber storm mats up front under the BJ's carpets. This combo will fully protect the cheap Honda carpet without the cuts.

"The install was a little more complex than I expected."

OK, you're being sarcastic, right? I'm certainly not a do-it-yourselfer, but I have yet to need someone to "install" floor mats for me! :P

OK, maybe you're not being sarcastic  , but that instruction still looks like they are making a mountain out of a molehill. What happened to Honda's motto "We Make it Simple"?! :confuse:
  • choro72choro72 Member Posts: 6
It's actually very simple...The instructions makes it look harder than it really is. Many people don't bother with it though.
  • kagedudekagedude Member Posts: 407
I tried it and my advice, if you are not sure of the instructions, just leave it. Better to keep adjusting the mats than have your floor have cuts/holes in them. Started cutting pieces of carpet to insert the front hooks but I gave up. The rear hooks are more complicated since you have to use a template which is just a piece of paper. Really, why couldn't Honda just pre-install the hooks to begin with?

Hi I found that the anti skid rubber strips that you can get from home depot ,yes the same stuff you put under area rugs in your house. works great. I it put under the drivers mat. It hasent moved in over two weekes. Plus the mat comes up easy to clean them.
  • crimsonacrimsona Member Posts: 153
Yes those grip pads work very well, on any surface, for that matter. For Canadians, it's available at Rona too, at a pretty low cost (like $5 for a 2x6" strip which you can cut as needed)

I am having a hitch welded to the underside of my car. They will remove the stabilizer hook and place a 2" receiver for a bike rack. Any thoughts on this?
  • dewaltdakotadewaltdakota Member Posts: 364
Let us know if Honda throws a fit (no pun, intended) over it. I would love to do the same thing, but not if it's going to void my warranty.

Oh, and which body style do you have, "Base" or "Sport"? Is the hitch being mounted lower than the rear bumper, or is the urethane bumper cover being trimmed to fit around the receiver hole?

I would love to see some pictures of it, when it's done (if that's at all possible).
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
There IS a hitch for the Jazz in the U.K. - but it's patently obscene looking ;)
  • havingafithavingafit Member Posts: 22
That's right...let ME be the guinea pig! I checked with my local Honda service department and the guy I talked to didn't see that it would be a problem. My Fit is the Sport model, and I'm having it done tomorrow (Tues)so I will let you know. I would be lying if I didn't say I was a little nervous, but this guy seems to know what he's talking about. I'll take some pics once it's done.

Does anyone know how I'd go about doing this? I have a part number from their website. I'm just not sure if/how I might be able to go about ordering from them.
  • hungarian83hungarian83 Member Posts: 678
At first you might want to try a dealership in the US that is willing to import parts. I have found College Hills Honda does this. Most of those parts are from Australia, with a few from Japan. There is a good chance they might be able to acquire the part if you tell them what you want. I was thinking of purchasing a set of alloy wheels from them straight from Australia...freight cost was incredibly high though! :(

Another option would be to contact Honda UK directly. Problem is that I think most Honda subsidiaries only deal with their own country. However, you could give it a shot and see if they would be willing to ship something. Honda UK (as with most European Honda sites) has their address and phone number on their page. See the contact link on the bottom-left of the page. http://www.honda.co.uk/

I am also somewhat dissatisfied with Honda America's Fit accessories and I might go through Honda Hungary or a local dealership for some Jazz accessories.

    Good luck!

Anyone seen/done this yet? (removed the spoilers from the Sport)
  • dewaltdakotadewaltdakota Member Posts: 364
So "havingafit", did you get your hitch receiver installed? How did it go?
  • davevmdavevm Member Posts: 2
Hi, i just installed the Kumhos with enkie rims recommended by my local dealership onto my sport. i get rubbing on the rear, both sides on bumps and high speed corning. Did you experience same? If so, how did you correct?

    Thanks, Dave

I'm curious about the ambient lighting kit described in the press releases. I've yet to find a web site that gives any details about it. Can anyone point me to some information or share their own experience?
    Thanks,

No, not yet. My "welder guy" got the flu! How rude! Hopefully sometime next week.

and clever me for finding this site before I ordered the accessories through the dealer. Comparing their price list against the after-sales companies mentioned in the past several pages is going to save me almost 50% over the dealer's price for the armrest, the floor mats, the cargo cover, etc.

I found you guys kind of by accident yesterday - thank goodness I did. Now - how should I distribute that $400 I am saving??
  • kagedudekagedude Member Posts: 407
I initially saw this being offered from http://www.collegehillshonda.com/fitaccessories.htm but they took it out.
  • kagedudekagedude Member Posts: 407
Just checked http://www.collegehillshonda.com/fitaccessories.htm and they now offer the Fit Armrest although its not in stock yet. You think they will also be offering the body side molding from the UK site? I hope so.
  • mklein2mklein2 Member Posts: 15
I also just checked w/college hills honda, and they're currently testing some of the products from Australia for the Fit. Once they finish testing, they will place a large order toward the beginning of July.

They also anticipate they can help get a dog gate from UK Honda.

Please let me know how this product works out for you as the price is attractive. It would be great if you posted an update if after you received the product to let everyone know about quality, ease of install, and how well it matches with the interior. Thanks
  • shneorshneor Member Posts: 66
They charged me another $15 for shipping to the US. I should have it in a couple of weeks. It looks like the armrest has a lot of storage space inside.
  • havingafithavingafit Member Posts: 22
    What is the website address?
  • kagedudekagedude Member Posts: 407
If you build a Fit from the Honda UK site, you'll go through the accessories part.

I just got mine today, after waiting a month because of the large demand. I am very pleased with it. It took maybe 5 minutes to install (and that includes reading the directions!). It ratchets forward and back a little more easily than I would prefer, but I think that's just a matter of getting used to it. It is the perfect height...level with the armrest on the door, and makes for much more comfortable driving. Very happy with the purchase! :D (I took pictures of the installation process and the completed project. Let me know if you would like for me to post them).
  • billygbillyg Member Posts: 29
Yes, I would love to see the pictures. How much storage space is inside the armrest? Also, since my wife is rather short, with the seat all of the way forward, how far does the armrest project forward of the seat back? Finally, where did you purchase it and what is the cost?

Thank you so much for your help.

    Regards

Please post the pictures. Total price with shipping?
  • billygbillyg Member Posts: 29
    havingafit,

Thank you so much for the pictures and detailed information on the armrest. You did an excellent job and thoroughly answered all of my questions. I could not have asked for more.
  • fit_nessfit_ness Member Posts: 58
Thanks! Great details on this armrest. My duplicate post was made almost simultaneously with the other one. Thanks for posting the pictures.

How is the stability? It kind of seems like there will be leverage against the plastic cup holder it is attached to.

Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to add cruise control to a base Fit? I know the Sport model includes cruise control, but it is a more expensive car, and the spoiler, alloy wheels, and underbody kit are more appropriate for young people, and I'm not so young anymore.

My understanding is that the fly-by-wire throttle prevents any current aftermarket unit from working. We'll have to wait and see.

    Hey, HavingAFit...

There's now an "official" hitch available for the Fit! The brand is Curt, and it's available from ETrailer.com. It's a 1-1/4" square receiver, rated at 1500lbs. The hitch package includes the drawbar, pin and clip. No drilling is required for the hitch installation, but the skid shield (the Fit "udder") must be removed.

I am also contemplating a purchase. Please clarify -- What was the exact amount you paid for the item (in any currency), including the shipping charge to the U.S.?
  • havingafithavingafit Member Posts: 22
Ok, see...there is a reason my welding guy got the flu! They have yet been able to reschedule me. The one you reference sounds like a much better deal. I've already bought a rack for a 2" receiver, but haven't even opened it yet, so I'm sure I can exchange it. One point of clarification...I'm not a real car savvy chick, so can you explain what you mean by the skid shield or "udder". ( :confuse: I'm sure "udder" should explain it to me, but I'm still clueless!) Thanks for keeping an eye out for me!
  • shneorshneor Member Posts: 66
Totol price including 20 Euros shipping is about $63. I got an email invoice but I hve no idea if and when it shipped. I'll wait for another week before I try another contact. Almost all contact has been in German, which I am not too proficient in.

I was driving to work this morning on a secondary street when I heard a loud pop from the windshield. I did not think it was a rock because there were no other cars on the road except one approaching from the opposite direction. I was only going about 30 mph. While driving I quickly glanced over the windshield to see if there was a new chip on it. Nothing. Later while I was on the interstate I noticed a horizontal line in the upper right third of the windshield. I hoped it wasn't a crack, but the line looked too perfect to be anything else. When I finally parked at work I got out and looked. It definitely is a crack, about 8" long. I went out to look at it later and it looks like it has grown. (It really stinks that my insurance has a $500 deductible.) The auto glass repair guy is coming this afternoon but doesn't think it is repairable. He's checking to see if they can even get the windshield.

Sorry, posted in the wrong thread.

The infamous Fit "udder" - if you look under the back end of your Fit, you'll see a black, cone-shaped thing in the center. It's a low clearance warning system, i.e., it will make a horrible scraping sound, if you're going to bottom out, before you endanger the gas tank that's under your butt. That gets removed, to make way for the hitch... which is okay, because then the hitch will serve as your early warning system.

Another good thing about going with this, instead of having someone cut off the tie-down and weld on a receiver... if you know you're going to have to take the car in for warranty work, you can always remove the hitch, and reinstall the udder.
