Need help In Illinois
I pulled the pan off of the tranny on my '99 Cummins powered 4x4 the other day. I found the normal dirt in the bottom and cleaned the pan and magnet. When I removed the filter I found the gasket between the filter and the pump intake was partially cracked out and allowing the pump to suck air part of the time. (It almost looked like RTV silicone instead of a gasket) I also adjusted the bands while I had the pan off. After the work was completed I refilled it with ATF+4. I have had no problems in the 200 miles since this was completed. I'm hoping that anyone else that may be suffering similar issues will read this and get some value from it...
The shop I called wanted me to check the codes prior to bringing it in. As I had just done starter work (another weakness, the starter contacts are undersized but kits are available) and had the batteries disconnected I had to drive it for several warm up - cool down cycles.
The truck never set any codes. Then I read somewhere about checking the transmission relay in the fuse/relay box in the engine well. I swapped the transmission relay with the a/c relay (a/c needs work too) and the truck hasn't missed a shift but I've only driven it one day. I'm hoping this has fixed the problem but won't believe it until I drive it for a few weeks with no problem.
This is a cheap check, maybe it'll solve your problem, maybe it won't.
good luck.
Not familiar with this truck or Dodge's methods.
The Hayne's manual has no information on repairing/rebuilding the steering gear. Could this be a 'simple' seal or is this box more complex?
Any suggestions appreciated, also any links to any parts diagram for the box would be appreciated.
Except for the leak the steering is fine.
I have to accelerate to the high side of first gear, then back off on the throttle to get the transmission to shift into second gear. Once it makes it to second, it usually shifts into third okay. I took it to the craft shop on post and cleaned the battery terminals, retorqued the bands, changed filter, and fluid, but it didn't help. Not wanting to take it back to the same dealer. What next? Thanks for any help.
Overall, I really like my truck and I don't want to move up to the newer year model designs. Just need the tranny working well.
Does anyone have a solution to the 2007 Dodge Ram popping out of reverse? PLEASE HELP?????????
Mr. C.
trying to move, does the same thing is reverse. I've been shifting into neutral when I'm coming into a light or stop. Any Ideas?
and not codes coming up.
I have a shift problem with my 99 3/4 dodge 4x4 diesel truck. the truck runs and shifts fine except when running about 40 mph with light pedal pressure the truck cant seem to decide which gear it want to be in. If you accelerate or take you foot of the pedal completely it work fine.
Also I would like to change out the servo valves in the transmission and dont know which transmission i have and where is the best place to get the parts.
The truck has an external trans cooler that was installed by the factory and was wondering if it will still have the check valve at the cooler which will nice to remove if needed.
Thanks, will all y'all help in advance and hope the best with your Dodge Truck experiences. I have had some problems with mine but, overall I still like the truck.
Thanks Again,

I have a '97 3500 Ram diesel with 140,000 miles under its belt. My truck resently decided not to downshift into 1st gear at a standstill or at minimal speeds. This doesn't happen every time, but close to 50 percent of the time and is gradually getting worse. All other gears are shifting smooth and within their RPM range. When the truck does shift down into 1st gear there seems to be a hint of movement or buck from the back right after you stop. Has anyone has this problem or has any insight on the situation?
Thanks, Geetmonkey
