I bought my acadia in Feb 07. I have had alot of problems with it. I try and keep up the maintenance on it but this car is a piece of work! From the beginning i have had a weird humming sound in the steering. I had the dealer check it out and they said nothing was wrong with the steering. BS! Then a year after we purchased teh vehicle the Transmission goes out. No warning signs. We are out of town and we get off the freeway and the tranny just dies on us. Luckily it was under warranty but they had my car for about 1 or 2. Then Other little things like the airbag light goes on and wont come off. Its' horrirble on gas. My hasband has a Chevy Silverado and he gets better milage. Now somthing is really wrong with the steering. When braking to park or make a turn the steering locks up. But its fine when i am driving or pressing on the gas. The hose from the window washer fluid keeps coming off. My husband is constanlty reconnecting it. The shock formt he lift gate went out also. had to buy the shock and hubby fixed that too. This car was brand new when we purchased it i think it has had too many things go wrong with it since we have had it. I understand normal wear and tear but this is a little too much. I REGRET buying the GMC ACADIA! I wouldnnt recommend it to anyone~!

Hello Acadia Power steering issues. I too have had some troubles with my steering. I have a 2008 model which is my second one. I made the dealer buy back the first one after my transmission went out after 3 weeks of ownership. Being from a GM family, I decided to give it another shot because I love the look, drive, and roominess of the Acadia. My second one had those steering issues and my dealership has been working with me and we have finally got it figured out. First they replaced my steering shaft which did not help with the noise. Then they replaced my bushings, twice, no help. Then finally they replaced my gears and that seemed to solve the issue. I dont know if it was the latter or the combo of all 3. I must say that now, she runs like a dream. I still keep up with the forums to see what is going on with others. I went ahead and purchased an extended warranty as well to cover myself for those just in cases. I hope I never have to use it. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I have a 2007 GMC Acadia. The rack and pinion has been completely replaced three times. This morning it was raining and I was heading to work. The steering completely locked up. I could not turn the car around the curve and came within seconds of hitting a tree. It made this horrible noise afterwards. I called OnStar to see if they could run a diagnostic, but none of their diagnostic tests deal with steering. I was able to drive it home and it acted like nothing had ever happened. I am terrified to drive it. Luckily I was going at a slow speed or I would have been in a heap of trouble - literally. Are their any recalls? Any suggestions as to where I should go to get this resolved as it is now out of warrenty.

Bought a used 2008 Acadia SLT2 in December 2010 with 47k miles on it for my wife for xmas. It was great car all over, no smell, nice car. After the winter thaw now...it sounds like a pool in the headliner! Water comes in all over! so, fast forward a month or two, now the $30K car smells like a locker room, moldy and nasty like used socks. I pulled the front carpet out, cleaned and dried it etc. I went to the dealer and he smirked as I told him my dilemma (de lemon). Then he commented...sorry 3 years or 50K miles. Yes, me loose! I looked up the recall and then went to work and tried to seal the drain pipes with RTV etc. I thought I had it licked, hence a 4 mile drive in the rain the other day and now everthing is soaked again and smelly.
It's a freaking crime, I'm $30K into a car and we hate it. (My other cars over past 20 years are Mercedes, BMW, Acura, Lincoln, Taurus's). This was my first GMC experience and may be my last. The truck rocks in everyway for us but i don't need a mobile pool! ANY advice or help is welcome!!!

there is a recall and GM should fix it. We had the same thing happen with our 44,000 2008 lemon. Dealership couldnt fix it...water was pouring from overhead dvd. trouble at 2500 miles..finally took to a different GM dealership and they got GM corporate involved and took the whole thing apart to find there wasn't one seal completed from the factory. All the bolts and everythig that hold the sun/moonroof in place..nothing was sealed. Nothing was sealed anywhere. So when the rain poured, it did puddle in the headliner. By the time we found out, we had the vehicle 2.5 years, 23,700 miles. Our state has a poor lemon law. GM offered us $6000 off a new Acadia if we wanted a new one to replace the bad one. Big Whoop! That is all they would do. We left the Acadia at the dealership to be fixed and were able to trade it off on an import. There will be no gm's for us ever again. I tried to work with them on multiple occassions. They wouldn't take any responsibility. I certainly wasn't going to purchase another one! I saw a beautiful 2011 Acadia Denali the other day and all I could think of was..pretty house, no furniture! I read where the Acadias are still having lots of problems. Too bad..this could have been such a winner for the company if it was built correctly and the company taking care of the problems in a timely and responsible manner. That Acadia cost us over $30,000 to drive for 2.5 years. With the loss on a trade and the $7500 in payments each year..we could have had a high class vehicle...I would still like some compensation from the company for that kind of loss. It isn't right that a company like GM screwed so many people on this vehicle. And unfortunately the cycle continues with the sale of the used ones. We need a class action law suit, folks...

And all that stink you smell is likely going to involve mold. Hope you and your family doesn't get ill as others have. It is indeed a crime that these vehicles aren't taken off the road and everyone given back their money! And to think this company also got my money with bailout funds! What a country!

I have a 2008 (which I bought new) Acadia SLT, love the car. I've owned acura, BMW and Cadillac, this car has been one of my favorites. Recently, my son drove it and said he had problems with the steering, he is a big guy and had trouble steering while turning the steering locked up. I am in the process of buying a new 2011, and steering problem is a real concern.

The dealer once again said they think they fixed the problem with my car. I have 16K in miles. The car has broken down every 4,000 miles consistently. So, when I picked it up I pretty much said, see you in 4000 miles. I have been in touch with central GM customer service already. They helped act as a contact between the dealer and me during the time my car was in the shop but were pretty useless since the dealer is pretty good about contacting me with the repairs.

Vincent was my contact at central GM and then they put me in touch with the regional guy who managed the complaints (his name also was Vincent in Texas). What sort of help could you be Christina?

Anyway, I am talking to a lawyer as well.

#1104. you must be nuts to buy another Acadia. I had a 2008 for 3 years. The rack and pinion went out twice and was about to go for the 3rd time when (my car had 102,000 miles on it) GMC declined to fix it for the 3rd time, claiming out of warranty. They had just made the 2nd repair 13 months ago. The AC leaks and shorts out the fan in my car. The brake power booster had been repaired twice and was about to go again.

i had been a loyal customer for 14 years. Never again will I buy a GMC oir Chevy. i will spend my time telling some of my 10,000+ clients to buy FORD products, like my new Edge. Great car. Great ride and dependable.

I have gone through this entire issue with my 2009 Acadia. Read post #938 or any other posts by me to get the back story on the cars issues. There is a way to get out of that car and into a safer one without the lemon law, that's if you're willing to do a buy back for another Acadia. We did and now have a 2011. The only problems we've had with it (knock on wood) is that my son has broken two clips that keep the seat belts from digging into your neck. This happened due to them being stuck behind the third row while down and then when the seats went back up those got stuck behind and he yanked on them. Also, due to my son, the compartment on the dash he broke the spring that allows it to pop open because he would slam on it real hard to make it pop open. During Christmas I went through a touchless car wash to get the salt off my car real quick and the car wash malfunctioned and tried to rip my drivers mirror off. We had it replaced, but since then there has been this funny rattling/clicking noise coming from the beam near the windshield on the drivers side. We figured something was loose when they installed the mirror. I had the dealership take a look at it when I had my oil changed and they discovered that in the top corner near that beam my windshield wasn't sitting right and not completely sealed so when I drive I'm hearing it shift in the framing. Thank goodness I haven't had any leakage. They have ordered a new GM windshield. Otherwise so far so good. If only I could get the service guys to stop touching the headliner with their dirty hands (they're worse then my kids!) Even with the stain protectent stuff I can't get those marks off of there. It's either a hand print or a water looking stain from where I tried to get a hand print off. Arrggg. Anyhow good luck and be safe!

Even with the stain protectent stuff I can't get those marks off of there.

Does that stain protectant stuff come with a warranty against stains? Like if the stain cannot be removed by them that the headliner would be replaced under said warranty? Just curious.

In the fall of 2008 my wife made the lifelong switch from Ford to a GM product. She purchased a brand new 2008 GMC Acadia. I am not quiet sure what qualifies as a :lemon: but I would think this vehicle would come as close as any to being a :lemon: .

19,741 MI - Outside rearview mirror replacement, turn signal in mirror quit working.
19,741 MI - Occupant Information Systems Wiring repair (Service Airbags Warning Message)

36,000 MI - Milage is approximate but I had both headlamp bulbs blow within weeks apart and I changed myself since bumper to bumper warrenty was over.
43,700 MI - Vehicle was back at shop with (Service Airbags Warning Message) This last time dealer told me some modules needed replacing in the $2000 price range. The three times I took the airbag problem in under warrenty no one ever mentioned changing some modules to correct the problem. Now that bumper to bumper is over they are wanting me to pay to have a critical safety defect corrected.

GM, is this your idea of a quality product?????? What is going to tear up next????

Because the Manufacture declined to repair their repair for the steering issue, I traded the car. I will never own a GM product again. They do not support their product or stand behind it. Moved over to Ford Edge.

I was replying to nmydst original post which indicated that she had bought the mop and glo from the dealership. Course GM doesn't sell the mop and glo rather than an add on by the dealer or another source of dealer profit.

    obygone,
Yes the protectant comes with a warranty (Commadore Sales Products), it doesn't state anything about hand prints, but since it was placed there by the dealership themselves and the grease around my sunroof is from when they took down the headliner and put it back up, I would hope it would cover it. Those marks were not from us. Who knows what more of a mess they will make when they put the windshield in next week. If they try to clean it and it doesn't come out or leaves water stain marks I will push for a new headliner. I have a great dealer ship so far, we'll see. I ALWAYS put on my slips for service for them to be careful with the headliner. Why some guy with hands full of grease would be touching it is way beyond me? I'll let you know what happens.

That reminds me of an incident when I had owned a Lincoln that was in for warranty service and returned with a grease smudge on the steering wheel. I asked for a manager and the assistant service manager came out and looked at the grease smudge. He then licked his thumb and tried to wipe the grease smudge. I just couldn't believe my eyes. Talk about gross.

Hope you have better luck with yours.

    Caron,
THNAK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS!!!
GMC came through after about a month of researching and negotiations with the dealership and agreed to reimburse me 100% of the 2600.00 dollars it cost to repair the timing chains. (let's hope it does not take long and I do get back the 100% as promised)
I just got my Acadia back yesterday so I hope this solves all the problems, but like I told Scott "my" District Specialist if my Service Battery Charging System light comes on again he will be the first to know along with you..
Again, Thanks for keeping an eye on my case and helping me out, because I truly was ready to trade my car in on a new For Explorer and never look at another GMC car again so I am so glad GMC reconsidered and came to the right decision to stand behind the Acadia afterall.
    Have a great day

Caron, I apologize for the delayed response. Halfway to the dealership (Village GMC in Naperville, IL) the power steering started working again. The dealership was concerned and responsive; however, there was nothing they could do because the computer showed no problems and with the problem no longer occurring they couldn't do anything. They did offer to give us a rental car and said they would keep our car as long as we wanted to see if the problem occurred again but we elected not to go that route. So, the problem occurred on April 24, 2010 and lasted about 24 hours and it hasn't occurred again. Thank you for your follow up. Respectfully, Michelle

My 2010 Acadia only has 18k miles and is in the shop for the second time because the AC makes a grinding noise and looses cool air. (A "common issue with this model" according to the dealership mechanic). I live in AZ, so this is clearly an major problem. In addition, it's riding really rough lately (feels like I'm driving on a grated road) and they say there might be a problem with the wheel bearings. Wow - I paid $40k for a new car so it wouldn't be in the shop! Now I'm driving a Chevy HHR (rental) and wondering if buying American wasn't a huge mistake. I love my Acadia - if it would only run correctly!

Thanks, Caron. So, one overnight rental while my GMC is in the shop has turned into 3 nights/4 days! I do appreciate that the crew at the dealership is working diligently to solve my problem, but I must say I don't love paying a hefty car payment to drive around a dingy rental for a week. Makes me think why I bother paying for a pricey car in the first place.

The diagnosis is something about my front wheel hub assembly and a leak in my A/C coil, which requires removing my entire dash. Again, the problem is being addressed and hopefully corrected at no cost due to warrantee coverage. However, I must admit, I expected more from my new car and am certainly worried about what to expect in the future. I don't have a lot of faith that I'll be driving this car for the long haul. Sigh.

STILL don't have my car back! It's Friday afternoon - Memorial Weekend and they're "hoping" they can get it to me late this afternoon. Completely unacceptable that I paid over $40k for a car and I can't take it for a Memorial Weekend roadtrip. I'm trapped at home and worse, I'm having to work LATE in order to stay in the area to get my car. I live on the other side of town and would otherwise have to drive back here in Friday rush hour traffic. This is beyond inconvienent and, so far, no one has gone out of their way at the dealership to apologize.

I think the easiest fix would have been to provide me with a loaner/rental car that was the equivalent of my car. Instead, I was given a stripped down little HHR and there seems to be little concern on what my vehicle needs might be in the meantime. Third row seating? Nope. Satelite radio? Navigation? Rearview camera? Nope. Seems like the simple gesture of putting me in a comperable vehicle (or even an upgrade) would have gone a long way in appeasing me as a customer. But instead - I'm treated like I should be lucky that they're fixing my car's problem. #Fail

Well I took my 2008 Acadia SLT2 into the dealership 2 weeks ago and complained that the transmission felt like it was slipping gears. Two hours later they informed me nothing was wrong. Well just 30 minutes ago, on the way home from church of all places, the tranmission went from 6th gear to 2nd gear, on the highway, then jumped up to 4th and the engine light came on. After pulling over, turning off the vehicle and then restarting it, I discovered that the reverse gear no longer existed. I was able to slowly creep home with my 2 year old in the back with only 2 or 3 gears. Thankfully church is not far from home.

Thank you GMC for the worst vehicle I have ever purchased. I know people who owned Pintos back in the 70s who had less to complain about. This is the latest in a long list of issues that began to occur just weeks after I purchased this vehicle brand new in '08. I had really hoped the problems were resolved after nearly 3 years but I now see that the problems are too plentiful to ever resolve and I am stuck with a lemon. GMC has knowingly robbed every consumer who purchased this piece of crap.

My Acadia only has 40,000 miles on it and the power steering rack and/or pump is leaking. I can't get it in until thursday and it is just sitting there because I don't want to drive it. Isn't this way too soon to have this problem? Is there a recall I'm not aware of?
Also, before my warranty ran out a few months ago I asked them to check the steering because of the noise I was hearing they found nothing wrong. I asked them to check it again and still said nothing is wrong. Now, depending on what they end up replacing I will spend between $1000 and $2000 when it should have been found and fixed months ago.
I've already been through the nightmare of the leaking sunroof which took them weeks to figure out. I'm not looking forward to this nightmare

This time when they cleaned my headliner they didn't use the same product as before. They used a foaming product that doesn't sink into the fabric too deep and it didn't leave a ring. We have a good service department manager. The windshield looks great. They were supposed to have ordered a new part for the driver's door that goes behind the handle. They've taken the panel down so many times that the clip had fracture bends and was sitting loose in it's spot. Well no one knew where this piece was. So the manager ended up taking one off of a new car off the lot. Well for some reason it just floated in the door not sitting right. Then the manager noticed that my door panel didn't look quite right either from being taken off so many times, so he ended up putting an order in for a new door panel for my car. This is the kind of service I like about my dealer ship.

Our buyback was actually started through our service department manager who called the area rep. Since the dealership could not find the source of the problem and agreed that it was a safety issue, they themselves drove the car and it happened to them (the manager actually refused to let anyone drive the car after that and gave us one of theirs to drive). After he called the rep they sent down someone to take one last look at it and he could not find anything except some grounds. My car was torn up in side. So this proved that the problem was unfixable and the car was unsafe. We only drove the car for less then 5monthes. The rep came to talk to us at the dealership and the only thing on their side that could be done is buy it back. We don't have a lemon law. We got lucky with our manager and a great rep. We didn't lose any money on our car. We actually made a little and we were told that normally you'd have to pick from what's on the lot or in your area. We wanted the same vehicle with the same options. They agreed to look out of state for it. They couldn't find it. So our rep let us order a new 2011 which gave us room to add stuff if we wanted and they paid for a rental while we waited which was from June to August. We basically didn't DO anything besides stand firm on what we wanted and knew that it was a safety issue. We had all documentations, and I kept track of all phone calls of who I talked to and what it was about. Good luck!

Cindy, mine was replaced with less than 30,000 miles. It was making noise as well. The dealership informed me there was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) issued in regards to the power steering pump. That was in January of this year. The dealership replaced mine but it was still under warranty so I'm not sure if it was because I was under warranty or if they were doing me a favor. The dealer has treated me very well. They replaced my rack and pinion at the same time because the rubber boots had split on both ends. Mine is a 2008 so I'm not sure if the TSB applies to 2007. Good luck.

I have had my power steering rack replaced 3 times in my 2007. A couple of weeks ago I lost all steering in the car and they then put flaps under the car to cover the power steering belt so it wouldn't get wet. I love my Acadia, but am really afraid it is going to kill me one day.

    Thank you,
