I have seen a piece that fits onto the trap table between the seats. It's a shoebox sized compartment that has a padded top. It's designed to be an armrest for both the driver and passenger. However, this does not fit the US spec CR-V (the cupholders for the euro CR-V are side by side). I mention this because some folks mistakenly thought that it would work for theirs. I wouldn't want you to order something that will not fit.

Folks, I think it's time for another owner's question... What was the first thing that you did with your CR-V?
Mine was delivered to my office (well, the parking lot outside the office) on a Friday afternoon. It had 15 miles on it. On Saturday morning, my wife and two of our friends were headed to the Green Mountains for a weekend hiking trip. It's about a three hour drive from southern Massachusetts, but I loved every minute of it. I beeped the horn at all the other CR-Vs on the way up. Yes, I was that goofy. We hiked that morning and returned to the car for lunch. Out came the picnic table. We got plenty of stares for that. We hiked back into the woods and stayed overnight. The next day our cold and sore bodies jumped right into the CR-V for the trip home. When we returned home "Buster" had over 500 miles on him.
I have been to a Robertson Honda (I believe there's two locations) while I was shopping for my CR-V and can tell you there are many other reasons to avoid it......
Anyways, what did i do my first day with my CR-V? I don't remember all the details (bought it in '98).... but i parked it in the garage, showed it off to family, then went to sleep. Didn't go anywhere special, until few months later.... went to Las Vegas.
The CR-V was my fourth new car in the 90's so I guess I wasn't too excited about it.
BTW, my first day, we loaded up the family and drove around. Ended up at a friends house later that evening to show off.

What i meant by "avoid," was to avoid going there, because it would obviously be closed for business. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still closed due to the investigation. Personally, I wouldn't go there due to it, it would just creep me out.... plus, her co-workers must be in shock and unable to do their best.

I currently keep an average of 26PSI in my tires as reccommended. Is this a norm throughout the CR-V community? Feedback, please.....
I keep mine at 30PSI. 26PSI shouldn't be a problem, as long as they're not Firestone tires. Interestingly enough, I had a blow out of a Firestone tire while driving on the freeway couple of days ago. It literally fell apart at the seams. I had just checked the tire (30PSI) and put an extra 2 PSI in to it before it blew. Luckily, I sensed something was wrong and was slowing down when it happened. Or else, I'd probably be one of the 100+ victims of Firestone's negligence.
Those Bridgestone's are NOT the same as Firestone. B owns F but they don't share the models.
Ford also recommended 26PSI for the Firestone due to the Explorer flipping over with higher PSI. But now have changed it to 30PSI so the tires will be more resistent to premature wear. I'm not sure if this would have prevented those accidents. It certainly didn't prevent my blow out!
I keep mine at 30PSI to increase MPG, mostly. You can always put more air at the gas station and also request Honda not to change the pressure.
Just the same, drive carefully.
WRT, tire pressure. 26psi is the recommendation in the vehicle's specs. Dealers will often over-inflate tires, so that they look better while on the lot. They often forget (or don't bother) to restore them to factory spec before turning the car over to the new owner. As posted earlier, I've been running mine at 28 psi and have little tread wear.
What year is you CRV. How fast were you going. How long were you driving (to build up heat) and how hot was it outside.
Did the tire look like the tread seperated.
Your attitude about this might be different if you saw 60 minutes last night.
How did your vehicle respond after the failure. Was it the back or front tire.

My wife and I are owners of a 2000 CRV-EX with just over 1000 miles on it. We are currently experiencing two problems, both occur when the air temperature outside is at least 80 degrees.
The first is a buzz or rattle that occurs at around 2000 RPM. This appears to be coming from the engine compartment. It happens in all gears and neutral.
The second problem we have experienced is the vehicle not shifting out of first gear. The vehicle was in drive with the O/D on. We had to place it in park and then back into drive to "clear" this problem.
Has anyone else experienced these problems or anything similar?

Just bought my 2000 CRV-EX a week ago. I found there are two problems:
1. when I release the brake pedal, it bangs back loudly.
2. during driving, even at low speeds, I feel noise from outside (not from engine). The noise seems to be wind whining.
I am not sure if above problems are common in CRVs or only my car has them. I called the dealer about the first problem, they told me it is normal for new cars. Is that true?

Does the transmission hold first on flat ground or just climbing hills? It will hold a lower gear for a long time when you climb a hill, even after you have reached the top. If it won't shift on level ground with light throttle input, you need to have that looked at. Could even be related to the buzzing.
Post 240: Does the pedal make the banging noise? It does have a return spring to pull the pedal back up. The spring is new, so it will snap back when you release the pedal.
Do you have a roof rack? If so, move the cross bars as far back as possible to minimize wind noise.
The transmission locked in first in "couldn't be any flatter Chicago suburbs!" We probably won't find a hill for a couple of months. I took it into the dealer and they looked it over and couldn't find anything. The computer didn't register any fault codes.
Long live the 3yr / 36k miles warranty (hopefully we won't need it).
Any other suggestions??

Yes, the pedal makes the banging noise. The dealer told me it is normal for new cars.
My car does have a roof rack. I'll try to put the cross bars backwards to see what will happen.

My CR-V does the same thing. My '98 Accord did the same thing.... My Lexus does the same thing. So, it's not just your car, nor just CR-V. I guess the best way to handle this is to turn the switch "on," then move the windows, then switch it back "off". I'm not sure if they can be programmed differently.
P.S. In the past, I've touted www.priceline.com as a big saver on gas prices. Unfortunately, this service was discontinued by Priceline, due to their declining stock prices. I am pretty devastated, since it saved me $50/month.....
We were offered it at $20,500; is that a decent price since the 2001 models are in?

DO ANY OF ONE HAVE ANY REGRETS ABOUT PURCHASING THE CRV, IF SO, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR NEXT CHOICE?
Any complaints I have are of the nit picky variety. The level of tire noise is high (will address this when the BFGs wear out) but not unacceptible for this type of vehicle. It doesn't come with a decent cargo cover. Thats about it for me.
The CR-V remains one of the best values on the market.
I've had my CR-V for over 2 years and don't regret it. The price was great ($16,500) and it's been reliable for 35K miles. Considering what our second choice was (Ford Explorer w/ defective Firestones), I am SOOOOOO glad we chose the CR-V.
If I were buying an SUV right now, I wouldn't say the CR-V would be tops.... but definately in top 5. I'd look at the Nissan Pathfinder (V6, 240hp).... Acura MDX ($35K though).... Mercedes ML320.... Toyota Highlander.... IF money wasn't an issue. But if it was, CR-V would be tops, RAV-4 (new style) would be close second.
Just curious, If you have the Honda Care warranty, why are you taking it to a independent mechanic? The dealer more than likely has seen/heard of this and knows the proper repair.
52K on a '99. That's a lot of miles in a short time.
I have a question for those with families riding in their CRV. My two boys and my wife complain of getting carsick (motion sickness) when riding on the back seat of the CRV, (they say they do not experience this when riding on the front passenger
seat). I have ridden back there and do find it to have a higher-up sensation compared to riding in the front, but I also find it very spacious and comfortable, with a good view, (but no motion sickness for me). They did not complain
of this when riding in previous vehicles, (all of
which are closer to the ground). The only thing
I can think of is that since the CRV is taller than what they are used to, perhaps it has more swaying motion in turns or over bumpy or uneven roadways, (or they just like to complain, which I
don't discount either!).
Have any of you experienced these complaints
from your family concerning riding in the CRV rear
seat? If so, what can be done to lessen carsickness?
To answer your question, I have never had the rear diff fluid checked or changed. I have followed the Honda service menu, plus oil and filter changes every 2500 - 3000 miles.
I have an after-market warranty (Warranty Gold - Platinum), that my local guy accepts. I am a little bit to blame to, as my local dealer accepts this also. To be blunt, I would rather give my local guy the business; however, I also do not like the wait and see atitude, so I will be calling the dealer.
How "hard" is it to change the rear diff fluid? Any harder than an oil change? What is the fluid type/brand to use as a replacement?
BYW: I have the high mileage because I used to drive 150 miles rountrip every day to work. After about 25 - 30k miles, I noticed that the OEM tires (Goodrich) are REALLY bad in the rain, to the point where I got paranoid about driving when it was wet, real - time 4wd or not! Have you had any experiences like this?
