08 Azera anyone?
My aunt, an 68 year old Caucasian U. S. native was put in handcuffs last month when Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Phoenix raided her candle company looking for immigrants. She was one of 34 U.S. citizens detained in handcuffs for 2 hours while they searched for illegal immigrants. She suffered a medical emergency while cuffed and will now be diminished for life. She had never committed a crime in 68 years They are all suing and expect to win on the basis of illegal detention (defined as loss of FREEDOM) and they expect to win. It's illegal to ride in my car or truck without a seatbelt, yet motorcyclists can ride without a helmet! Thats the kind of sense you'll get out of Government. I remember an America in the 1950's where the speed limit in Nevada was "reasonable and proper", but i guess we all have our definitions and baseline of freedom. You can all live in fear of everything I guess, but once again I'd like the government out of the inside of my DVD player. My common sense and ability to make my toys safe is still my business. We can all own guns but not functioning DVD's in our car?? Don't fear me on the roadway friend, but fear the loony tunes in D.C. that make such a discussion even possible!. Now I agree, let's talk about Azeras from here on out. I can see we'll never agree on this one!!
Not true! There was such a speed limit years ago in Montana, but never in Nevada.
"Don't fear me on the roadway"
Ah but we do! Where do you get away with breaking so many common sense laws?
We don't want to be on the same road anywheres near you.
Why not move to Europe where you seem to believe they have more freedoms than here?
Take your political posts somewhere else...maybe ACLU forum.
Let's get back to the 08 Azera, please.
Please get back to the Azera and drop the attacks. Thank you.
These might be small sins to some people, but if I'm spending more than necessary to get more luxury than a Sonata can give me, I place a big value on being pleased by my surroundings.
I know I'm replying to the issue of the usb/aux jack, but with the 2009 Azera you do give those up with the Limited version with the NAV system. The 6 CD changer and audio hookup just go away with the NAV option.
We bought the car in the middle of September, took a 1400 mile trip and babying on the interstate on a 400 mile stretch @65 mph we got 31.3 MPG with 5 people in the car and a trunk full. Coming back to Colorado, climbing over 4000 ft. @75 MPH we got over 27 MPG. I'd like to see a little better gas mileage but for the performance of this car, amenities and comfort after 2600 miles now I couldn't be happier with my decision after 8 weeks. Love to drive it when my wife will let me
Thanks,
Doing so would nullify the warranty.
Where did you purchace the brace.
TXS HJC
P.S. I installed the K&N filter and notice NO improvements in power or MPG.
The only benefit is the ability to clean and reuse the filter
If you Google the forums on use of K&N very few people see any improvements
My friend, you are an advertisers dream come true.
In the first place, show me your dyno test sheets. Don't have any? I thought so!
How can you get more power and better F E with a K and N filter then
with no filter at all in the filter box? Magic I guess?
"Now about the chips . . . tried two in the first 1000 miles and they both caused
my check engine light to come on and fouled my mass air sensor . . "
NO!
What caused your mass air flow sensor to go South was your "well oiled k and n."
This has happened time and time again with several vehicles including
but not limited to the VW TDIs. Read the facts over on Fred's.
Why would the element in a MAF foul simply because of any chip? :confuse:
Believe whatever you want, but if you think a K and N will help you, I have
some ocean front property over in the AZ desert to sell you really cheap!
Where did you purchace the brace."
Forget the brace.
If that brace helped at all, don't you think mahout of N C would be using it
in his modified for the track 2006 Azera when he runs his car at V I R? :confuse:
Most people who think they are getting improvement when using the over expensive
K and N filters have not really checked the F E and power out properly.
They think because they spent that money and because the snake-oil specialists say they
will get such and such, that they are in fact getting what the stupid unbelieveable ads state.
KIA - Azera Genesis Grille
Since you seem to think you know everything, please explain to us dummies how installing any chip could possibly foul up any MAF? (This I've got to read!)
The reason you cannot provide any dyno sheets is because you do not have any.
I made up my mind about K and N filters many years ago when I started
testing my '95 Impala SS before I began modifing it in early 1996.
I did do dyno testing all along that path and I do in fact know what I am talking about.
Maybe you think you can fool some of the people some of the time,
but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.
Carry on, and try all you want, but many of us are too bright to go along with your program!
Let the buyer be ware!
No. Installing a strut brace is a rather simple bolt on with no modifications to your
Azera at all. Three bolts only on each side. I simple do-it-yourself project.
Do not believe what this guy is trying to get you to believe.
12 percent handling lateral improvement indeed! You will see absolutely no improvement what so ever!
Trust mahout instead. He races his and knows what he is talking about.
Imagine this clown is trying to get us to believe that because mahout has modified
his Azera 'aerodynamic' that's the reason he does not need a strut tower brace?
"As far as some pro driver not using the strut tower bar, it would be ridiculous to use that device
on a car that has been already been modified aerodynamically and with under suspension
mods that negate the strut towers almost completely from the system!"
Now there is a brilliant statement. No one said anything about mahout doing an 'aerodynamic' modifications and if he or anyone else did, what would that have to do with a strut tower brace? 'Under suspension modifications'? What modifications? No one said anything about that.
What would doing any 'under suspension modification' have to do with trying to make the upper chassis stiffer? The more he posts, the more he digs himself deeper into his hole.
Back when had my GTP, I discover that the Buick had a brace from the factory but the Poncho did not. Why I asked myself? Did the Buick engineers feel that the Buick needed one and the Pontiac did not? I passed on putting one on my GTP because I figured the chassis was already stiff enough and did not see the need.
mahout who is into racing at VIR has not felt the need to install one in his very successful '06 SE Why would anyone choose to spend over $100 and go to all the effort and waste more money powercoating it and then installing it, thereby adding weight to the front end of the car unless they simply wanted to waste money and have the looks? Save your money and forget that modification

Here's yet another quote:"Only use mobil one oil and filters. . . "
What is the part number for a Mobil One oil filter that fits an Azera?
This I have to see, as there are no Mobil One oil filters listed anywhere for the Azera.
Mobil One does not make one! This guy says to use one.
Are you starting to see a pattern here? :confuse:
Independent commentators such as Michael Karesh and C/D have noted their subjective impression that the Azera/Sonata platform isn't quite as structurally rigid as, for example, the Accord's. Admittedly, a strut bar isn't a panacea for this, but it does intuitively qualify as a traditional low-tech step in the right direction.
I also never saw Mahout dismiss or condemn a strut bar. He merely got excellent results without using one, which doesn't prove it's worthless any more than anyone else can prove a claim that it confers benefits such as "12 percent" improvement.
Have a great holiday.
Enjoy the day!!
:shades:
He [Most Certainly, scratch merely] got [gets] excellent results without using one,
which doesn't prove it's worthless any more than anyone else can prove
a claim that it confers benefits such as "12 percent" improvement."
He has never recommended one.
Let me put this question on the table.
Don't you think that a person such as mahout, with his credentials, would most
certainly use a strut bar if he thought that one would do him any good at all?
He is, after all, looking for any slight improvement which might
possibly net him even a few tenths of a second in lap times!
As far as the bogus claim of a "12 percent" improvement, how would
anyone be able to prove that one way or another? 12 percent of what? :confuse:
Not tryin to start an argument here as I can't say from personal experience if it does or doesn't work. However, I've spoken to someone else that has installed the brace and he also said he felt there was a change in how the car feels in turns, curves and corners.
Strut tower braces are used to stiffen the chassis in order to help maintain the tires contact patch under extreme cornering forces which may distort the suspension's mounting points. IMO, if Mahouth doesn't use a brace, then I would agree with donna that the Azera doesn't need one ( at least with the grip afforded by the street legal DOT tires he has mounted ).
But that doesn't mean there's no benefit to be had from one. I think Mahout would be the first to admit he doesn't have the resources of an all-out testing facility, suspension development department or racing team. He's a very smart retired guy trying some well-conceived stuff in his garage. He's not equipped to measure chassis flex, and he entered this with the stated goal of doing what he could on absolute minimum bucks. As he stated outright himself, that's why he cut his front springs instead of buying stiff expensive new ones. The only new parts he used were his rear shocks, and he fabricated those from other shocks to fit because there was no other workaround.
I'd love to have Mahout himself join this discussion and erase all doubt. But until then, it appears to me that we're confusing our respect for him with all sorts of research he simply didn't set out to conduct.
'Amateur' racer you say? Geez! How little you know!
Maybe you believe that statement, but I sure don't. Mahout knows more about how
to make an Azera perform than all of the rest of us combined and then some.
:confuse:
It is not the mahout forum. I mentioned him as being an expert which non of us are.
I don't care whether anyone installs whatever in or on their cars. After all, it is indeed
their money, and if they want to waste it, that is entirely up to them now isn't it?
It would be nice if you would get your facts absolutely straight prior to posting.
Guote where I said I did not like Mobil One. I use it is all of our vehicles.
As far as DVD players that work while you're driving, not only is that illegal, but very dangerious as well.
I do not approve of them functioning while the vehicle is in gear.
I know now that you were the person who advocated how well you could drive
while viewing one as you sped down the interstate. I also recall how
everyone got on your case at that time about that very subject. :surprise:
Carry on, and think whatever you like. I do not care, and neither does anyone else.
You can disagree with someone's point of view without attacking them personally. And if you are unable to disagree with a person's point of view without attacking them personally, you need to not respond at all.
Let's move on.
I also found your info on the strut bar interesting as well, The Azera does seem a little loose up front and I also notice that seesawing that you mention on curbs and bumps. I think I'll try that bar too
I need a sensible sedan, so of course I'm looking at the 4 cylinder Accord EX-L, Camry XLE, Altima SL, but about a year ago I rented an Azera and I was SO pleasantly surprised that I'm considering buying one now. I test drove an Azera Limited last week and the sales guy said I could get it for around $25k, which is around $1000 more than the first number that the Honda, Toyota, and Nissan people first quote. But I got the impression that the Hyundai dealer here (DC area, land of the Lexus) was hungrier than the others, and would come down quite a bit more.
I don't NEED the V6 power. It's nice, but not critical. I drive an 05 Maxima now and I think it's over-powered. The Accord and Altima 4 cyl. engines are fine for this middle-aged, 2-year-old daughter, home-office kinda guy (i've put only 36,500 miles on my Maxi in 40 months!). But I do like the Azera'a luxury feel.
My concerns about the Azera are 1) long-term reliability and 2) resale value. I intend to own this car for a while, probably 8-10 years, so resale value is not such a big concern, but mechanical reliability is a big factor.
My guess is that this board is pretty much populated with Azera enthusiasts, but I appreciate any input you all might be able to give me. How has your Azera performed over time?
I've studied up on this car at great length. It looks to me like its reliability and durability should be very good, with the sole exception of its suspect shock absorbers. Many don't have any problems with them, but a significant number do; they can wear out and soften prematurely, causing the car to ride too softly and buoyantly.
This is a very controversial subject in the Azera community, and any mention of it wil provoke heated discussion. My personal opinion is that if you did encounter such a problem, it would never disable the car, but it might compromise your driving pleasure significantly. If this happens, the quality of the dealer is a big determinant of whether you'll ultimately be pleased in this regard. That said, there appears to be only one way to nuke the problem into submission permanently in the worst case: an aftermarket set of Korean-supplied coil-over shocks that cost $1,200 plus labor and are completely unsupported by Hyundai.
Now, I don't say this to freak you out about the Azera. The engine and the rest of the car appear to be very, very sound, and of course the warranty is the industry's best. I too keep my cars for a long time, and since I'll be in the market for a new car pretty soon, I'm taking a long, covetous look at the Azera -- and by way of context, I'm shopping it against used full-on luxury cars, NOT Accord or Camry.
As alluded to, the Azera is more comparable to entry-level luxury cars, the Sonata would be comparable to the Camry and the Accord...
