I consider it a minor annoyance, but there may be something the dealer can do for you if you describe the problem well enough for them.
Honda recently announced the actual changes and, as tradition dictates, they are minor. The console storage has been enlarged, coat hooks have been added, and Taffeta White models will come with the black/gray interior (instead of Saddle).
"This sentence could use some clarification IMO:
'New colors for 2003 include a black interior color scheme available on models with Taffeta White exteriors.'
Does this mean you can get a white 'V with your choice of either the original tan or new black interior (kind of like how the black MDX was the only color offered with a choice of 2 different interior colors), or does it mean it will only be offered with a black interior from now on? The use of the word "available" would seem to imply that we will have a choice. Also, the use of the plural phrase "new colors...include" would imply that there are other additional color changes in the works."
BTW, when I originally wrote the above, I followed it up with a "nerd smilie"
I wouldn't read too much into the plural form of "color". They could mean black and white (two colors). If they had other colors up their sleeve, why would they not announce them? Also why would use the plural form if they were hiding something.
Maybe I'm being dense, but I don't think Honda writes their press material with hidden clues like those used on the TV show, "The Mole".
We'll have to wait and see.
I thought the same thing, but didn't think it was worth mentioning. The word "available" does suggest a choice between the previous tan interior and the "new" black interior.
Only time will tell!
Yes, I agree that the wording is odd. I'm just not sure if it means anything.
Jul26 - Try the list in this thread.
I'm very nervous. I've never owned a Honda, but reading all the comments and recommendations here is very reassuring.

Anyone remember what the angles are for the 1st gen? IIRC, they were 31/28.
Greetings from sunny Miami.

now she wants to drive my CRV.The roomy feel
and visibility are part of it.She says it is
easier to put the two grandkids in car seats which
is true. For a road trip the Acura would be best
but for general suburban use the V cannot be beat.
The power is adequate but if you want to tow
anything look elsewhere.
Also, does it make much sense to get a used one? Seems to me from the discussions in here that the price drop in the first couple of years isn't that much, and since I might only be holding on to it for a few years, maybe I should get a new one? Or?
Also, I am very concerned with safety. How many air bags does it have and how has it performed in crash tests? Would I be better/safer off in a heavier car?
Thanks very much in advance for any response.
Livi_bil - Safety concerns? Well it depends on how you define safety.
From an active safety standpoint, the CR-V's brakes okay (about average) for the class and handles like a tall car. In other words, it's better than a real truck, but not as good as a small car. The CR-V does have great forward visibility, but that does you no good unless you use it to your advantage (pay attention to what's ahead).
From a passive safety point of view, the CR-V cannot be beat. It currently holds top honors in the IIHS offset and NHTSA front and side impact crash tests. The CR-V earned the highest scores in all three tests.
The EX model comes with four airbags (front and side for the front passengers). The LX comes standard with the two front bags and the side bags are options. The CR-V also makes use of dual pretensioned seat belts. Both the lap and shoulder belts are pretensioned. Headrests have been designed to help prevent whiplash.
All of the above applies to the 2002 model. The 1st gen CR-V did not fare as well in the IIHS crash test, so if safety is a big factor for you, go for the 2002.
Question: Anyone know anything about when the 2003s are due. I know the changes are supposed to be trivial, but if the 2002 to 2003 changeover is soon, then I'd rather wait ... for obvious reasons.
Can anyone help ... please ....
Three weeks later - it's really growing on us. I like it better every day.
The salesman had what appeared to be an "order sheet" that showed 2002s through October.
2003 color chart did gybe with the other reports that the only change is white now comes with black rather than brown interior.
I suspicion the 2003s will be assembled in Swindon rather than Sayama.
Congrats! You're going to love it.
Does anyone know if the extended warranty offered by hondawarranty.com is the same one offered by the dealer?
I too am rather fond of silver ... but from past experience, just don't scratch or dent it ... it's a b___h to match the paint.
Planned accessories: body side cladding, bug deflector ... do you need the cargo cover with the tinted rear glass?
Haven't heard anything about price increases yet, but if looking at last year, the LX only went up $50 and the EX went up 3.3% with all the redesign that took place last year. With only the increase in size of the front dash cargo area and the addition of coat hooks in the back, I wouldn't expect a significant change in price.
In my opinion, the CR-V looks great in all the available colors. Of the two available interior colors, I prefer the black over the tan.
Gatorgreg - nice photo!
Still on my order list: side body cladding, cargo net, different wheel rims. I really dislike these LX rims!
Nothing major. Typical of Honda.
Quality control slipping? A few small issues: rubber gasket around inside of rear gate surrounding light falling off. Small plastic piece on bottom of passenger seat fell off. Rear (tailgate) handle paint is bubbled.Nothing that wait for 1st oil change appointment.
FWIW, I'm a fan of silver as well. It hides road salt, scratches, and other imperfections quite well. However, matching the color can be a pain in the bud. I recently painted by grill and a hard spare cover to match the body color. I got the paint through Paintscratch.com. It worked well, but the color is **slightly** lighter than the OEM paint. I also found that lots of sanding and a good, thick clear coat is required for a perfect match. I need to get some more of that for mine.
Carsdirect listed the EX at only $100 under MSRP. Priceline recommends a price about $700 under MSRP, or $1000 over invoice on the automatic. Because of this, she'll probably go with Priceline, but she's afraid of offering too much money for the car.
Does anyone have any experience buying a new CR-V in the San Francisco Bay area recently?
Sorry to bother you guys again.
Now we will buy 2002 CRV EX and pay it tomorrow. However, you know the dealer always has lots of tricks to earn more money from us.
They told us we have the following useful options:
1. Tires&alloy wheel protection($189 for 3 years)
Actually we think it should be included in standard warranty but dealer told us not. Is that true?
2. Painting Sealing(Something smooth to add on your car surface to protect your car) $159
3. Front Wheel mud protection(They said rear wheel mud is standard and this is optional but I can not find it on manual, can you tell me your car's situation?) $155
Another minor question is we got moonroof instead of standard sun roof. The sales man told us they are same. Is that true?
Thanks a lot.
The tires should come with a warranty from the tire manufacturer. With my CR-V I got a small pamphlet from the tire company outlining the warranty information. Tires are not covered by the Honda 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty.
"Alloy wheel protection"? Sounds like they added the Wheel Lock accessory. You can get the Honda Wheel Locks for $30.
Or...they're trying to sell you tire and wheel theft insurance. I had a dealer try to do that to me (for $199!). When I asked if the theft wasn't already covered by the Comprehensive portion of my normal auto insurance they said "Well...yes...but this is Extra! coverage." Needless to say I refused to pay it.
2. Painting Sealing(Something smooth to add on your car surface to protect your car) $159
This is pure profit to the dealer. I'd refuse to pay for it. The CR-V already comes with a clearcoat layer. Just wash it regularly with a cleaner made for cars and wax it with a good quality wax.
3. Front Wheel mud protection(They said rear wheel mud is standard and this is optional but I can not find it on manual, can you tell me your car's situation?) $155
The CR-V doesn't come with Front Splash Guards. You can get the Honda Front Splash Guard accessory on the internet for $35 and they take about 15 minutes to install. They're worth the $35, but not worth $155.
I also had a dealer try to tell me that "all" Hondas sold in their area came with Front Splash Guards for an extra $139. They backed down when I pointed out that neither of the other two dealers I'd spoken with required them, and one dealer offered to match the internet price and install them for free.
Another minor question is we got moonroof instead of standard sun roof. The sales man told us they are same. Is that true?
If you check the Honda website (www.hondacars.com) and look at the Specifications for the CR-V the EX comes standard with a "Power Moonroof w/Tilt Feature" so the "moonroof" is standard.
Congrats on the new CR-V!
Can it still be hotwired?
