I took the toyota engineer for a ride this week and he could barely hear the noise whild driving with cruise on at 70mph. (this seems to be a frequency hearing sensitivity thing as well because i was hearing it). He had me pull over and he pulled he airfilter from the airbox. I engaged the emergency brake, stepped on the brake pedal, put it in gear and slowly brought the engine up to 1800RPMs (stopped)and......IT STARTED SCREAMING...bingo!! There is something about the airbox that makes the engine scream! I suggested trying the TRD air filter whih i put in today and it made it worse. It made the range from 1500-2500 RPM and it was much louder. I thought it may be the CFM sensor but it isnt....Please try this and call 800-331-4331 to complan if you hear it too....my next step it to try other aftermarket filters. Please check and post. thanks.
I took a close look at the RPM and engine noisy, and found out that while accelerating from 0 to 40 MPH, the RPM goes up to 2000 - 3000 RPM, engine has noisy yet nice sound. after passing 40MPH yet before 50MPH, the engine starts having low frequency sound, and RPM drops to 1000-2000 RPM.
Then I had a Toyota engineer test drive. He said everything is normal, the engine sound and RPM changes are because of the 6-speed transimission. He also think the computer is programmed to coordinate the V8 engine with the 6-speed transimisson. I am going to first enjoy the riding first though I don't quite understand the engineer's comments.
Tonight I was pushing the limits of my fuel mileage. I was on my way home and can get gas quite a bit cheaper near my house. I cross the border to South Carolina, and gas goes down .15 - 20 a gallon. I was also interested in the XX miles to empty readout I get in the Sequoia. I was trying to see if it would get to a point where it would give a warning just before you are about to actually run out. I drove mine for 3 - 5 miles while the readout was reading 0 Miles to empty.
Does anyone know what the buffer is ? Is there an additional warning when you actually get very close to running out? (Other than the one when you hit 20 miles to empty. ) Just curious. I don't normally run it that close. I was jst interested to see if it would give an eventual beep or warning. I got to the gas station before it did and was able to put 22 Gallons in it. It must have been close.
I kind of get the drift of what he told you. Basically the six speed was engineered to take advantage of the power on the 5.7L V8. The shifts are programmed to get you quicker to sixth gear providing better fuel economy and less emissions. If you notice the gas mileage is better on the 5.7L than on the 4.7L due to the six speed tranny. The 4.7L uses a five speed. Mack
I've noticed the same problem. The fuel capacity of the Sequoia is 26.4 gallons so you weren't even close to running out of gas. My guess is that Toyota will need to reprogram the fuel warning indicator.
I found this weird thing from my brand 08 sequoia.
After I turned the key to power on position without actually turning on the egnine, so I could use all the electronic functions such as bluetooth. Then I heard a constant noise from the passenger side, like from somewhere inside or behind the glove box. The noise sounds like a fan is running or wind blowing. I double checked to make sure my audio is completed off, but the noise is always there.
After I turned the key to off posisiton, the noise is gone.

I'm not sure if the sound you're hearing is the same as mine but here's one thing to check. I have an '08 Platinum Sequoia which has both heated and air conditioned front seats. There must be a fan somewhere in the seats that pushes either cold or heated air through the perforations in the seats. I found that there was a noise that was rather annoying and couldn't figure it out until I turned the temp controlled seats off or at least to a lower setting.
I'm not sure if the Limited's heated seats work the same way as the Platinum however its rather easy to check. Try driving with the radio off and the front seats set to the highest heat setting and see if you hear the sound. Next try putting the setting to the highest air conditioned setting. Last, try driving with both front seats set to 0 (off).
You'll know right away if the sounds you're hearing are coming from the fan in the seats. Good luck.

Let me guess.....Ballantyne area in South Charlotte? Shell station at the corner of Johnston and Hwy 160.
I've been trying to buy a 4x2 Limited Sequoia for over a week now but no dealer can find a truck with the options and color that I want. I live in Souther California. I did not think it's this hard to find one with Pyrite mica, nav, rear entertainment and middle bench seat. The closest dealer that has this truck is in Nevada. Most Sequoia that I see in the dealer lots come with bucket seats in the middle. Mike
Have you checked with Longo Toyota in El Monte? If they don't have it they can get it to you quick. They're are the largest Toyota dealer in the US and the world. Their inventory is amazing! go to link title or follow this link: link title
I found the noise when engine is off, radio is off, heated seat is off. The only thing I did is to turn the key from "off" position" to "on" without actually starting the engine.
After I trun the key to "off" position, the noise disapear. I tried turn the key "on" "off" several time and got the same pattern.
Also, the noise sounds coming from the glove box area.
Now I want to know who you are. my handle makes it pretty easy for any of my friends to know who I am, so I am assuming you know me or know the price drop when you cross the border.
Now I want to know who you are. my handle makes it pretty easy for any of my friends to know who I am, so I am assuming you know me or know the price drop when you cross the border.
I live in Ballantyne and cross over to SC for gas as well, so assumed you had to be in the same area. Just an educated guess.
I'm curious if anyone has yet installed an xm radio receiver with the factory Nav unit? Did you use the dealer to install? Can aftermarket receivers integrate the same as the factory receiver with the Nav unit? If you used another installer and brand other than Toyota who did you use and how much did it cost? Were you satisfied?
Ahh. Cool. What color is your Sequoia? Mine is white and a platinum. I have seen a blue one and another white one in the area with a gold letter package on it.
Has anyone else noticed that the maps in the NAV on the sequoia seem to be a bit dated? I am running in to areas where my NAV seems to not know the roads. My wife's Nuvi shows them fine.
Our store is taking a page right out of Chrysler's playbook but seems Mr. Press got it wrong so we are making it better.
As most of you know Chrysler is offering a gas card in lieu of rebates or special financing. The smart consumer will probably won't fall for it. I'm amazed the former CEO of Toyota Motor Sales USA came up with this bonehead idea.
Our take on it is this: On all Limited Sequoias $5000.00 off MSRP plus a $4000.00 dollar gas card. On Tundra Limited CrewMax $4000.00 off MSRP and a $3000.00 gas card.
NO CATCH NO GAMES
Basically it breaks down like this: Sequoia $600.00 discount $400.00 college or military rebate $2000.00 rebate from Toyota $2000.00 owner loyalty rebate Total $5000.00
On the Tundra is the same but the amounts are different: $600.00 discount $400.00 college or military rebate $3000.00 rebate Total $4000.00
Since our objective for this month is 300 new cars we are pulling all the stops. I hope it drives traffic to the store. We have so many cars and trucks on the lot that it's becoming almost impossible to find a parking space for the employees. !
Ahh. Cool. What color is your Sequoia? Mine is white and a platinum. I have seen a blue one and another white one in the area with a gold letter package on it.
Same here -- White platinum, no gold package. Sand Beige interior. Its actually my wife's car.
One of my issues with the Sequoia is the safety ratings. Front Driver - 5 stars Front Pass - 4 stars Side Front/Rear - not tested
I think that rating is very weak given so many SUVs are getting 5 stars front and side (GM, Ford, Honda) these days. It seems like passive safety isn't Toyota's biggest priority. However, I do believe active safety is a Sequoia strength.
If someone has a different point of view I'd like to know. This probably might be the only reason I won't buy a Sequoia.
Regarding your question about my Platinum with 0% 60 months.
I made my deal on the last day in April, when they were offering 0% 24 months for a Platinum. I made sure that if the deal was better in May the better deal would apply. On May 1st I asked the salesperson about the new deals. He said they now have 0% 60 months. When I picked up the vehicle on May 2nd the dealer wrote up my deal/contract with 0% 60 months for the Platinum. Maybe it was a mistake....maybe there was some confusion. The loan appears to be in effect as I just called the bank and it has the correct term per my deal.
Hi guys, I was quoted $45455 plus Tax, License & Doc fees and the OTD price $49400 for a 4x2 Limited with NV, EY, SR, PB, CT, RL, RF but the dealer back off just when I was about to go to sign paper and pick up the truck. They said that it's cash price only but asked me to apply for credit through the dealer web site to check to make sure I qualify for the 0% financing. They want $50700 for OTD price now. What do you think? I found it's hard to find a rear bench seat with every option like this one in Southern California. I am willing to pay $50K exactly out the door. Is it an Ok price? Or should I not even deal with this dealer.
That's what's referred to as a "bump" in the car biz. They bumped the price on you. Just imagine what other tricks they may try to pull if you accept their price. Unless you really must have that particular vehicle I would not do business with them. Try going to another Toyota dealer and they can dealer exchange the vehicle with the other dealer. Mack
P.S. cash only is a fallacy in the car business. In the old days it used to be that a customer would say "I'm paying cash, how much can you take off the price?" That was when people could afford to pay cash for a car. Today most people get loans and the dealer tries to get you to finance with them if you have a loan with your own bank or credit union. Cash is cash to a dealer whether in the form of a check or Ben Franklins. Mack
This was my post from a week ago on our purchase of an "08 Limited:
We live in the San Joaquin Valley in California and just purchased an '08 Sequoia Limited through the Costco auto purchase program. I feel that the Costco program worked great! The whole transaction was very smooth. Here was our price/info:
2008 Sequoia, Limited, 4X2, super white, graphite interior 20 inch wheels Navigation w/JBL sound, 4 disc changer & backup camera Rear DVD entertainment Pwr. rear door with jam protection Moon roof Rear spoiler Daytime running lights Second row bench seat (we preferred this over captains for more seating)
MSRP: $51790 Purchase price: $46944
We were pre-approved at Tier 1 (the best rate/credit) through Toyota Financial and got 0% financing.
I agree with you that the seond row bench seat with these options are more difficult to find. I like the second row captains but we really wanted the eight passenger seating. We were fortunate that they found the one we wanted (plus DVD/Ent.) in the city where I commute to for work.

The options that you have are exactly what I want on my truck. Power Toyota in Irvine has one or can find me one with other colors but Pyrite Mica or Silver. I don't need the truck immediately and can wait for months but I just want to take advantage of the 0% financing for 60 months.
My 03' Sequoia will not start. It had sat for about a month waiting to turn back in from a lease when I discovered the battery was dead. I recharged the battery and now it will not start. The engine turns over great; however will not start. When the key is in the "on" position, the only things that funtion are the lights and the door open indiacter light works. When the key is pulled out the security light works. Windows, stereo, guages will not work. Any ideas?
Yes, the 0% at 60 months is a pretty big deal, especially on a vehicle at these prive levels. This was something that we also wanted to move on since these special offers can come and go pretty quickly. Toyota is clearly trying to add some revenue to the balance sheet by jumpstarting sales with the 0%. If it helps you, I checked our final purchase price with tax, license and registration was $51136.20. The Costco deal was $500 over invoice. All in all, we feel like a good price.
Good luck in finding your vehicle. We are really enjoying ours and are very pleased with it overall.
We just took a road trip with our new Sequoia and were amazed with the power and comfort. The Sequoia was the right vehicle for us!
Does anyone know of any articles that gives the top speed of the Sequoia? The odometer only goes up to 120 and although I didn't come anywhere near that I am sure that the top speed would be greater than 120. I am just curious what the Sequoia is capable of attaining.
Excellent rate (0% for 5 years) on the Platinum. Maybe your dealer had the authority to give you this rate. Can you post your dealers name or at least city they are located. I am in southern NJ and will purchase within 250 miles if the deal is great. My local dealer is hoping the rate continues and is offered on all Sequoia's next month, then again there may be no offers in June.
I am in the market and will buy today if I get 0% for 5 years on the Platinum. If not, may wait until September to see if any changes are made for 09.
Good luck with your new SUV, you made an excellent choice.
0% will more than likely continue in June. There are no changes planned for the 09 Sequoia. Toyota has a 5 year cycle on most vehicles. The first three years the only changes are to option packages, and some option add or delete. In the fourth year a "refresh" is scheduled and this usually amounts to a different looking grille, bumper, and tail lights. The fifth year is the same as the fourth and then a re-design comes in again. Mack
I finally got the 4x2 Limited with all the options including the rear bench seat that I had hard time finding. This Sequoia does not have the AL 20" wheel like yours but I got it for $49400 out the door with 0% financing for 60 months. We are really enjoying the truck even with just 1 day. I think I did pretty good with the over cost of the truck.
I bought this vehicle from Legacy Toyota in Atlanta.
I went there because they had the exact vehicle I wanted - Platinum PyriteMica with RedRock. Nobody in the my region (CAT) could/would provide the vehicle - even if I waited for it. The SET region had only one and it was in Atlanta. Long (ridiculous) drive but the wife was very grateful that I got her the color combo that she wanted. Very happy with the vehicle so far. The drive on the highway was great.
I was thinking more in terms of rain sensitive wipers and the smart key system. These are options they may add to make the vehicle different each year. If Lexus had this platform, Toyota probably would not be offering a Platinum edition.
"Does anyone know of any articles that gives the top speed of the Sequoia? The odometer only goes up to 120 and although I didn't come anywhere near that I am sure that the top speed would be greater than 120. I am just curious what the Sequoia is capable of attaining."
I doubt the tires are rated for speeds over 120mph therefore my guess is that even if the motor is capable of delivering speeds over 120, the Sequoia engine is probably restricted (governed) to a speed less than 120.
I have not seen Redrock, must be a very limited interior. Sequoia's are made in Indiana, wonder why they can't be ordered? My dealer advised it would take month's for a factory order, they no doubt want to sell what they have in stock. You were wise in settling for the vehicle your wife wanted. By getting your choice of exterior and interior color, you both will enjoy this vehicle more.
I suspect that with gas prices at $4 and likely to go much higher in the next 5 yrs, the refresh schedule of the past is likely to be severely interupted. My guess is that either the Sequoia schedule for refreshes and updates will be stretched to a much longer cycle (7-10yrs) to amortize the development costs over a longer period of time OR accelerating the refresh schedule by building in the development of a plug-in hybrid sometime during the next 5 yrs.
Either approach is a more likely outcome that maintaining the status quo on refreshes for Toyota's large SUVs since I suspect the competition will also be slowing down their development cycle of large SUVs as the sales decline precipitously. New grills and badges just won't have any impact on annual sales (unlike the past). In fact, its unlikely that fresh sheetmetal, new leather and wood or electronic gizmos will boost large SUV sales.
Large SUVs are likely to decline as manufacturers continue a vicious battle over the remaining customers that have a "real large SUV need" combined with the wallet for these vehicles and the fuel they use. There will simply be less of these customers to pursue and therefore I see some manufacturers dropping their large SUVs altogether (Nissan/Infiniti for example).
The real game changer will be the first manufacturer that can deliver a large SUV with seating for 7-8, towing greater than 8K with 4wd that can deliver 20+mpg. And the only way that's happening in the next 10 years is with a gas/electric plug-in hybrid where the owner can transfer the cost of power consumption from the gas tank to his home utility bill. That's my $.02

WOW, the Black - RedRock combo is stunning, thanks for the pics. Not sure if I am ready to maintain the black, (alot of work), but is very tempting to consider.
Yeah, black can definitely be a PITA, but when its "spit" shined its without question (IMHO) the best looking combo.....just hard to keep spit-shined for very long. Nu Finish polish does last a long time and in between I have an excellent hand dried car wash.
I ordered mine in Dec and received it at the end of Feb. Total order time of about 10 weeks from contract signing to delivery.
In your pictures I note there appears to be a large floor "mat" covering the full rear. Was this standard with the Platinum or was it an accessory ? I purchased a couple of mats from Home Depot to protect the rear but would prefer something that would fit better. I don't see anything in Toyota accessories for this item.
BTW, I agree that black is very sharp if it is kept clean and polished. I had three black SUV's prior to purchasing a Silver Sky Sequoia in 2001. It generally looked very clean on the outside even when not washed. However when I bought the 2008 Sequoia Limited I went for the Slate Metallic as I wanted a change after 7 years of Silver. However, It is disappointing that dust etc. shows far more on the Slate than the Silver Sky. I think I was spoiled with the Silver Sky color as far as efforts to keep it looking sharp and I guess I will be spending more on car washes with the Slate Metallic color.
All Lexi are based on Toyota platforms. The LS is just a BIG Camry, LX is a Landcruiser/Sequoia. Go to the LexusUSA website and compare the Platinum Sequoia with the LX570. The Lexus even has the power folding third row seat. In the comparison section the blocks that are labeled "Not Available" are incorrect. Some of the features are avaiable some are not. Mack
I just received my carpet floor mats for my 2008 Sequoia. In the floor mats there are 2 holes on the drivers seat side of the mat. On the floor/carpets there are also 2 holes. The correct placement of the mats leaves these holes separate by about an inch or so.
What is the purpose of the holes? Is there a clip or something that allows the floor holes to be attached to the floormat holes to keep the mat from sliding? If so, how or from where can I order those? Part number?
Looking for an item that can keep the dogs in the space behind the 2nd row (with the the 3rd row down). Anyone know of a good product that fits well in the 2008 Sequoia?

I agree with you that the seond row bench seat with these options are more difficult to find. I like the second row captains but we really wanted the eight passenger seating. We were fortunate that they found the one we wanted (plus DVD/Ent.) in the city where I commute to for work.

I was quoted $45455 plus Tax, License & Doc fees and the OTD price $49400 for a 4x2 Limited with NV, EY, SR, PB, CT, RL, RF but the dealer back off just when I was about to go to sign paper and pick up the truck. Or should I not even deal with this dealer."
RUN....don't walk to another dealer. Enough said!
Good luck in finding your vehicle. We are really enjoying ours and are very pleased with it overall.
Does anyone know of any articles that gives the top speed of the Sequoia? The odometer only goes up to 120 and although I didn't come anywhere near that I am sure that the top speed would be greater than 120. I am just curious what the Sequoia is capable of attaining.
I am in the market and will buy today if I get 0% for 5 years on the Platinum. If not, may wait until September to see if any changes are made for 09.
Good luck with your new SUV, you made an excellent choice.

Thank you,
(highlander7) Bob
And thank you for the dealer information.

That's my $.02
Here's a few pics of my Black/Red Rock combo.
Was it hard finding this vehicle?
thanks hdfatboy,
Bob
I ordered mine in Dec and received it at the end of Feb. Total order time of about 10 weeks from contract signing to delivery.
Thanks for the comments on the combo.

What is the purpose of the holes? Is there a clip or something that allows the floor holes to be attached to the floormat holes to keep the mat from sliding? If so, how or from where can I order those? Part number?
