If that's for 5 years, that's really great. Also, however, it was "offered," and without actually signing the papers, who knows what would have happened. Possibly you would have been told it was a mistake before all was said and done.

I was offered this when I bought the car & the papers were signed in the finance department. On the contract we had the negotiated price for the EX ( 7,000 under MSRP )& then the cash for my trade-in. I had a balance due that I was going to owe the dealership. When I went in to pay for the car, the finance manager asked if I wanted to finance the balance thru Infiniti . I asked what terms he would be willing to give me being that my purchase price on the EX was 3300.00 under their invoice.. He said he could still do 2.9% ;which was the lowest rate they offered at the end of May. I paid in cash but I did buy it that day.
The 5.9% I was offered was for a 39 month lease. The current incentives are ending soon. I'm thinking about waiting to see what else comes up from Infiniti in the next couple weeks.
Ironically, it's not all about the money; call me strange, but it would really take away from my enjoyment of the car if I found out that I didn't get an excellent deal, especially since the EXs are not selling that well right now.
I am also in the same boat comparing these two cars. Best deal so far on a G35 Journey + Premium + Wheels + Trunk Mat is $36,250 MSRP, Cap Cost $29,967 (-500 under invoice using Conquest cash), 67% residual (12K/24mos) and MF of .00103.
In order to get the EX-35 Journey (Premium, Luxe Elite, Wood trim, roof rails), in the same range payment wise I would have to be able to bargin around $2,000 under invoice. Do you think this is possible? I have read there is $4,000 in manufacturer to dealer money but I don't know if this can be used in conjunction with a lease.
I think i need to hurry - can you give me the name of these dealers - so before the end of business today I can get their quote -- i need to save the $$$ as you indicated. So please post a name for me. Thanks, so much! Live in CT as well. won't go to Greenwich though after what i just read.
Hi, I am responding to everyone today - can you give me a name of a dealer please? I don't know who to call for the best prices on a loaded EX. would appreciate your feedback too.
Karens2008 I am happy to tell you the dealers I got quotes from but I am in Florida, not Ct. I got excellent quotes from Infiniti of Orlando, Sawgrass Infiniti and Warren Henry in Davie Florida. Deal directly with their internet sales managers. I also got a flat bottom price from Metro Infiniti in California but the shipping was too high to be cost effective. I can't give you salespeoples names as Edmunds policy forbids that but you should do well with those dealers.I bought in May & the deals are better now. Hope that helps!
Yes! I got my EX for 4k under invoice. It just takes a lot of work deciding on what you must have and what you can do without, then communicating what you want and what you are willing to spend for it with a dealer. I studied up on it and there are so many hold backs, etc.
One dealer I met said he was writing a book exposing the car dealership industry, and told me that they don't actually make the money on the car as much as on many other aspects of "the deal." So there is lots of room to negotiate, especially since they want to move these cars out with the '09s coming in, the the EXs have moved slowly due to a number of reasons.
I found someone to make a deal with about 50 miles away, but was willing to go as they were willing to make the deal I wanted. They pretended to have my car, but didn't really, tried to sell me others, but I knew there was one out there with my specs, so I told them, they looked it up, and it was about 75 miles away. They got it for me. I did let go of color choices, so it is good to have at least two combinations in mind.
I got the EX35 Journey with Premium, Tech, Nav, Wood, Rails & Bar, & Cargo Protector, Splash Guards $ 35,368. without TT&E. Platinum Silver w/ Stone/Maple Interior. The dealer suggestion at the Infiniti web site for this same car is $ 43,675.
Originally I wanted the AWD, but made the decision that if I wanted this car I would only pay under 40k for it. Also, it is much heavier with AWD and uses more gas. The car is so powerful, unless you have to deal with snow, it is something that is easy to let go of. I also declined the Luxe Style as I thought the tires would be too clunky, and have since read complaints about the special road following headlights that come with that package.
I paid cash back in May, but if I had been offered 0%, as they are today, I would have taken the deal that way and left my cash in the back, whatever meager interest it might bring. I love this car! Just got back form a RT trip from LA to San Francisco in it and it performed so beautifully! I would take this over the sedan any day as it is more sporty, fun and you have the option of carrying more stuff as the back seats go down, etc.
This is my first lease - or buy and i am very new to this - so far i have got the ex35 with nav/tech/prem wood cargo cover for 35,756 - with 15000 miles residual at 22,087.50 - from ct dealer - i get very confused at dealer price - invoice price - after reading edmunds and consumer reports and then you go for that lower price and they all just laugh so i am now down to just playing them all of each other - not cool but i got to pay for this sweet car- also no one seems to have an idea about the leaking sun roof so i thought that interesting after reading the blogs what should i be asking for ?
A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I purchased an 08 EX-35 Journey AWD with premium/nav/wood/splash guards/cargo protector/destination charge for $34,266 plus TTL. According to Edmunds, this was $262 above invoice ($39,004), less the $5,000 manufacturer to dealer cash which was passed on to us. Don't know whether it was a good or not so good deal, but having bought another car for me a month or so ago I was shopped out. Straightforward give and take negotiation. Great car, no problems for the first 600 miles and averaging 21+ MPG so far.
I just bought my EX and pick it up Saturday...Journey AWD with premium,Navi,Tech pkg, Lux Style, Splash guards, Wood Trim, Roof Rails and Crossbars, Cargo area protector. The sticker price was $46325. I paid $36350 not including tax, license ,etc. I will say I probably could have gotten a few more hundred off if I wanted to drive a little further. I had three dealers and a couple of them were almost pleading with me to "tell them what it would take" to buy the car. I felt I got a fair deal so I'm happy.
I was getting our G35 serviced and looked at several cars in the showroom. Asked about the EX since my wife originally wanted one instead of the G. the salesperson stated to me there will not be an 09' model offered, but Infiniti was going to launch an early 2010 model addressing the lack of rear seat leg room.
Now, this is what I was told in a five minute conversation in passing, take it for what it's worth.
That's silly. Cash should have nothing to do with it. The dealer gets their money any which way you slice it. If you were to go to your credit union and get a loan for the car and deliver the check to the dealer, that is the same as paying them cash.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
It's not applicable on a lease but is on a financed car. You wont get the low APR if you get the $5,000 but you can still finance it anywhere you want. I did finance mine at the dealer. He went a little under my credit union.
Just got an EX35 Journey AWD in Seattle area. Sharing my price paid with all of you. I managed to knock down $9000 from MSRP. I feel I got a great deal.
Options: Roof Rails Prem Pkg Lux Style Pkg NAV Pkg Wood Trim Splash Guard Cargo Area Protector Cross Bar Wheel Lock
MSRP: $44,375 Paid: $39,125 out the door (including tax and all the goodies)
Please beware that the dealer try to sneak in B&O (Business and Operation) tax and having me pay for this but this is in fact something that the dealer has to pay. If you see this tax added to your price you should ask the dealer to waive it!
Yes. Bought a 2008 AWD Journey with Premium Package, Navigation, Wood Trim, etc. in mid-December. Sticker was $43,125. I paid Invoice ($39,384), less $5,500 rebate, no trade, for a total out of pocket of $33,884. That does not include tax or license. Sold my trade on eBay to keep the transaction for the car as clean as possible. Sales tax and title application added to that of course, but that is beyond the dealership's control. I think the $5,500 rebate expired on 12/31/08.
msticks, my math is correct!!! Sales tax in Washington is 9%. What I am trying to tell all of you is I got the car for $35,375 (not including tax and registration etc.) and hope this will help your negotiation. Math is not the issue here!!! State tax and registration varies in each state. You can do you own math.
I was not aware there was a rebate. Did you actually get a rebate check? The 2 cash incentives right now are the $5000 and another $500 Loyalty Cash incentive for current Infiniti customers. How were you able to get the $500 too if you were not trading in an Infiniti? The reason I ask is because I am negotiating a deal right now on a new EX35 and trading in my FX35 and jjst want to make sure I have as much information as possible to help in my negotiating.
Here is the offer on the table from the dealer as of right now.
$5500 under Invoice for a 2008 RWD EX35 with Premium, Nav. Roof Rack, Cargo Protector, Splash Guards. 5% interest rate for 60 months through Infiniti. Has anyone done better than this? It would be good to know because I would use the info as leverage to get an even better deal, as l'm not done negotiating yet.
I finalized the deal yesterday. We are now the proud owners of a new EX35.
MSRP $40,975 (RWD Journey, Premium, Nav, Crossbars, Splash Guards, Cargo Protector.) Invoice $37,455 Less $5000 dealer incentive Less $500 loyalty incentive Less another $155 Purchase price $31,800
Traded 2006 FX35 with 48,000 miles on it for $21,500. The KBB Excellent condition top dollar trade value on the FX35 was $21,850. They took $350 off that trade figure because it needed front tires soon.
In AZ we save sales tax on the entire trade in value, so I saved $1720 in sales tax by trading in. Only other cost was registration (plates). A whopping $600 here in AZ.
Interest rate is 4.99% for 60 months. They would have given me this rate up to 72 months at this rate, but I declined and kept it at 60.
Well, after doing quite a bit of research, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a new EX today. Details:
EX35 Journey RWD Black Exterior / Graphite Interior With Maple Wood Premium Package Splash Guards Roof Rails Cargo Protector -------------------- MSRP: $39,325.00 Invoice: $36,041.00 MY PRICE BEFORE TAX TITLE LICENSE FEES, ETC.. $31,241.00 (Actually, this included a $200 delivery fee...talked them down from a $800 start point on that)
TOTAL PRICE after all tax title license fees, etc..$33,870.71
Note: This was purchased in San Diego, CA, and I secure my own fnancing BEFORE going to the dealership...and didn't say anything about a trade in. I was thinking about nav system, but I dont like not being able to use it while driving, so I'm just going to go get a portable one somewhere.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the service I received. Really nice, non pushy salesman / sales manager...they stayed late to help me out. I feel I got a pretty good deal, and really that's what matters in the end.
Looks like they worked from the invoice price, then passed along the $5000 incentive, then added $200 back in for the "delivery charge". There should not be a delivery charge unless they had to transport your car from another dealership in another city that was far enough away where they had to flatbed the vehicle to transport it.
I am curious about the interest rates in your market compared to Phoenix. I got 4.99% from Chase for 60 months, as I noted in my post a couple days ago. What interest rate did you get and how long was the term?
Well, I had financing from my bank before I went to the dealership, from USAA. They gave me 5%. I probably could have gotten it lower somewhere else..didnt really shop around..im pretty loyal to USAA.
I just got mine here in Texas: 2008 EX35, Premium, Nav, Luxe, Tech, Splash, Rail, Cross Bar, Cargo Protector and tint with Graphite/Maple wood interior for a total of $36,350 before taxes.
I didn't got for the lease coz I'd have lost the incentives so, I traded in my old vehicle at $22,500 (no tax) and paid the rest $15,000 in-cash (taxed).
Mind you, the G37 blows it away when it comes to performance! I might very well trade this one in couple of years for it
I didn't go AWD coz it would add more weight (less power), reduces the turning circle and where I live (Texas), I don't to slid and slide
The Cons of this car are (sofar): 1- The sunroof would leak a bit if you take it to a touch-less car wash (direct water pressure) 2- Fuel Pump will need to be replaced if you hear a humming/groaning noise on startup from the right rear-passenger area (warranty) 3- Steering wheel might need centering and/or the car might pull (Bulletin ITB08-046) -- Wheels/Steering alignment 4- Lack of rear passengers space (personal issue) 5- Since it's Infiniti's first EX, it's bound to have issues but then, a good dealership(s) would be an asset to have.
I wish it was built the same way they build their G35-37s. Much better engine starts, power, breaking and attention.
The Pros: 1- Much more value for money if compared to other vehicles (BMW, Volvo, VW, Audi, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Acura).
Not too many used ones out there, but we bought one with 12k miles on it, all options, sticker price of $45,615 - for $27,888. Scarlet Silver/Chestnut. Found out afterwards that the Infiniti dealer we bought it from bought it at auction for $26,553 just a few weeks earlier. Feel pretty good about the deal.
My wife has been driving my '06 S4 Avant while I take care of registering, inspecting, etc., her new EX. I realize this will sound like heresy, but at a sticker price of almost $20k less than what my S4 cost a few years ago - the EX is a much, much nicer vehicle in just about every respect. Sorry, but it's true. Looks like whoever leaves the house first in the morning is going to be taking the EX35 for at least the next few weeks!
If this thing holds up, it looks like I'm finally going to break that nasty German car habit I've had for the last decade or so.
Thanks to those of you who have posted your experiences, very helpful in our decision process.
BTW, I live in the Boston area and drove to LI to buy the car (ironically, the next town over from where I grew up) and got a stark reminder of how sleazy the stealerships are in the Greater NY area. Not that they're much better anywhere else, but these guys really take it to the PhD level. Would say my worst car buying experience ever - but I guess I shouldn't complain after the deal we got.
Sounds like a good price on the EX, as it is somewhere around Invoice, less the $5000 incentive. How good a deal anyone really gets when there is a trade involved is also dependant on what price you negotiated for your trade in compared to the Kelley Blue Book value. Provided your car is in excellent condition, you should get very close to what the KBB Excellent Condition value is. Some dealers can make all theire money on the trade if you're not careful. I'm not asking for what you got on the trade as that is your personal business. Just making sure we are all keeping the car dealers honest.
Sounds like a good deal on the EX. Did you trade in a vehicle or was it a straight deal?
We considered a used EX35 before we bought our new one last week, but there was only one in town and it did not have the interior color we were looking for. It was the Black exterior we wanted, but when the owner told me over the phone he took the car to the automatic car wash, I cringed. You can't take a black car through the car wash and expect it to maintain its original lustre.
I immediately put a coat of "Zaino" polish on the car the day after we bought it and it looks like a sheet of glass now. Absolutely flawless.
OK, busted. It wasn't a straight deal. First trade I've done in almost 20 years of buying cars, but I did it for a number of reasons, even though we got about $1k less than KBB Excellent. 1) It was far from "excellent". 2003 Highlander with 107k miles in very good shape, pretty clean interior but fairly rough paint (including front bumper and filled right quarter), in need of full fluid job, timing belt, brakes and tires (and possible struts in the front, if not shocks all around). 2) I'm a recent MA transplant, and imagine my shock when I find that person-to-person auto sales still fall under the 30-day lemon laws, and apparently a few other headaches I don't need. 3) The other "knucleheads on the phone and in my driveway" issues.
Will the dealer make a little money on my trade? Probably. Is it worth it to not have to deal with 1,2 and 3? I think so. I would have saved about $350 in taxes as well, but I won't get started on the joke of government and taxation system that is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As we all know, there are three main variables in the actual purchase cost of a vehicle (purchase price, trade-in allowance and cost of capital). At the end of the day, it comes down to how you did against what's out there. So....
We ended up financing the whole thing, and getting them to buy the rate down to 3.9% - on a $28,900 purchase price and $6,900 for the Toyo. The $27.9k price I mentioned earlier represented the price at a 5.5% rate (60 months), which is still better than we could get with excellent credit, and high balances at credit unions and my bank.
When I got home and looked through the paperwork, I found the dealer's "deal recap" sheet in the pile of papers, which the F&I guy mistakenly gave me to take notes (when it was turned over and he thought is was a blank sheet of paper). That's where I found the numbers showing their cost of $26.5k. Again, they made a little money - but I don't begrudge anyone making a profit, and somewhere in the 4-5% neighborhood is fine with me. I may drop the recap sheet on the fax machine adressed to the dealership owner next week to cause some grief for the F&I guy though, because he was a complete sc*mb*g - pardon my French.
Not many touchless car washes around here, but luckily one of the few in the state is about 10-15 minutes away. I'm wondering if the Scratch Guard clear makes regular car washes a tolerable (if still not ideal) option??
so they paid $26,500 and you paid $28,900. That's perfectly fine. My general rule is $2k-$2500 is fair, $1500 is good, and under $1500 is great. So you got a fair deal.
Congrats and enjoy!

I'm not asking for what you got on the trade as that is your personal business. Just making sure we are all keeping the car dealers honest.
Congrats and enjoy!
