The point of this whole story is, I sure hope Toyota does come through with the V8 for the new 4Runner. The current 3.4 V6 in the Runner is alright. I've driven many Runners as well but the pickup and power can not be compared to a V8 powered vehicle. I was going to purchase a new 2002 Limited 4Runner within the next couple of weeks because I have wanted one for so long but now I know I will wait on the new Runner. Here's URL of the 4Runner that I was going to purchase, let me know what you think about it. The price on it is $39,022 but I could get the price much lower.

Since the new Runner is close to arriving in the US, I guess within 6 months or so, I figured it may be best to wait and see what kind of things Toyota does with the Runner and if I don't like it, I'll just buy a 2002. The difference between a V6 and a V8 is unbelievable. I've driven the Pathfinder with its 240hp V6 but I felt more power in the 238hp V8 Jeep. Gas mileage on the Jeep I drove was 14 city/19 highway. Not bad, just slightly less than the Runner by probably 2 miles or so.
So for all of those out there who are considering purchasing a 4Runner right now, hold off and see what the new Runner is going to be like. From the above posts, it seems like the Runner may keep most of its nice looking styling that it currently has. If so, then it would still look sharp. I hope the prices on the new Runners will remain reasonable. I sure hope Toyota doesn't get too happy and jack up the Limited models to way over $40K. Like others have said, its amazing to see how quiet Toyota has been on the new truck. Hardly anyone knows anything about it yet and it will be out within a few months.
If I am wrong and what I read is wrong please post where a picture may be.

Where have you seen the product? What can you tell us about your involvement with Toyota? From what I've read, you seem to 'know a salesman'. Is that the extent of your qualifications?
Good thing is April is really close and Toyota will have to get some news out on this I would think.
So what is your connection to Toyota? Do you work here? I've asked in the past who your resources were and never received a reply, other than you saying it was some salesman. Am I confusing you with someone else in here? Please correct me if I'm wrong. The people I've contacted in New York, Kentucky, and California all say the same thing. Release date will be fall of 2003.
Now anything is possible in a car company, but I've not been able to find even one person to corroborate your story. Can you please at least let me know where your resource(s) is/are? What city they are in?
2)The national Toyota Dealer Meeting is September 8-10. Historically, new products arrive at dealerships just after this meeting.
I'll place money that they can't do this.
Any bets that it also will show up on V8-equipped Toyota SUVs, and perhaps even the Tundra?

I've looked at those Southeast 4Runner inventory numbers over the past month or so, It's interesting to me anyway since I'm in Birmingham, AL. One thing to note is that about a month ago, the number was running in the upper 700's, now it's close to 500. Also, there aren't nearly as many 4WD'S and/or Limiteds available or in the pipeline as there usually are.
It's not the end of the world, but I hope you are right Buzz. I am envisioning a flashy New York car show introduction with sales immediately to follow. But have zero evidence to support that.
I don't know if it's related, but what's up with the dwindling inventory of the LandCruiser?
1. Size, if the new Runner is larger, I don't want it.
2. Size, bigger=heaver=slower (V6)
3. Size, V6 will be slow, V8 will be worse MPG
4. Size, bigger=more expensive
Cliffy, current incentives end this month. Any idea on what the new incentives will be? Also, if I buy a runner, to get the best deal I will order one. What APR do I get when I order, the one at time of order, or the one at time of delivery. I assume time of order since I have to be approved to order, or not?????
APR is determined at the time of delivery.

Thanks,
Warranties are a gamble. By not buying one, you are gambling that you will spend less in repairs over the term than you would have spent on a warranty. Personally, due to the MUCH greater level of coverage on the Platinum plan, I think this is a better gamble. The gold level does not include things like the CD player, key locks, wiring harnesses, moonroof cables (very expensive) and other, more fragile components.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado/Colorado have rear mounted tires (I believe), and also have rear doors. I'm betting the new Lexus is built off that platform too.

- Or can you still buy one ( a Platinum warrty.) when you buy the vehicle from a dealership if it's still under manuf. warrty.?
I am going to buy a 4runner here in the near future and I can not decide whether to bite the bullet and buy a new 4runner and get the platinum OR buy a one or two yr old model and save 10K. I'm willing to pay for a new one since I will keep the 4runner for seven to nine years. I have had too many bad experiences with issues on vehicles where I am prepared to buy a platinum to cover myself for the next 7 years/ 100,000 bumper to bumper(basically).
Thanks
I fail to grasp the importance of a few months difference in the projected release date of the new 4Runners. I guess there are people that just cannot wait to empty $40k as soon as possible.
